Impacts of BI server merge
Dear colleague,
We are in the process of looking at merging 2 BW systems onto one single instance. Obviously, the current design form the 2 existing BW systems are very different. We are wondering what are the main pros and cons we should expect to proceed as such.
Any such experience, hints, comments or documentation would be very appreciated.
Best regards,
SB

Windows 2003 DHCP server merge to Solaris 10
Does anyone ever tried to merge a Windows2003 DHCP server to Solaris 10? Especially running this DHCP server in a solaris zone?
I have an old windows 2003 server with 100 DHCP clients that needs be be transported to Solaris so we can get rid of this Windows machine.
Is it possible to read the DHCP backupfile from windows2003 with Solaris?Troy H wrote:

Okay, more information:
Workstations that are imaged will receive SLP information as long as the
Zen agent hasn't been installed.(using latest Zen7SP1 Postpatch)
Once you install the Zen agent you will no longer receive SLP via DHCP.
Note that the Novell Client version can be 491 to 491 SP3.
However, if you rename the C:\windows\system32\novell\novdhcp.dll file,
you'll resume getting SLP info from DHCP.(TID 10093676)

People,
I'm going to decommission one of the three AD Domain Controllers / Global Catalog during the business hours that is used by the Exchange Server 2010 SP3 due to it is still running Win2k3 (Exchange Management Console > Server Configuration >
Client Access | System Settings tab, I can see the three DC/GC as follows DC01-VM, DC02-VM, DC03-VM).
So if one of the DC above in the tab is decommissioned during the business hours, is there any impact or steps that I need to take to avoid any email outage or problem ?
Let me know what is the correct steps if possible.
Thanks,
/* Server Support Specialist */You may wish to remove the DC that is going to be decommissioned from the GCs available for use by Exchange.
In any event that that is the GC that is being used by Exchange during the course of decommission, you will encounter issues.

Hi Vincez,
How do I do that on Exchange Server 2010 SP3 ?
My understanding is that the DC/GC is detected and used by Exchange when it is on the same AD Site.

SQL Server 2012 Web synchronization option for SQL Server Merge Replication
I have 2 servers for this:
1. WIndows Server 2008 with SQL SERVER 2012
2. Windows Web SErver 2008 With IIS 7 - and SQL Client Conectivity Tools installed
https://192.168.100.8/sqlreplication/replisapi.dll?diag i have the next results:
Class Initialization test:
Class Status
ErrorCode
replisapi.dll classes SUCCESS 0x0
CLSID_SQLReplErrors FAILED 0x80040154
replrec.dll classes FAILED 0x80040154
msxml6.dll classes SUCCESS 0x0
Where replrec.dll is supposed to be? On the WebServer or Database Server? And if the answer is on the Webserver, how can i install it?
Thank you,
biionutHi biionut,
Did you install SQL Server 2012 Replication Components on the IIS server? The steps to install replication components are covered in
How to: Install SQL Server Replication Components.
Also, is your IIS server running 64-bit Windows? If so you will need to allow 32-bit applications to run on the IIS server:
cscript %SystemDrive%\inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1

Impact for exchange server when schema master move
Hi team,
I had issue to my DC.
I have three DC one is holding all FSMO function. the others just additional DC of DC one. and last DC is have separate domain name
DC one ( that holding FSMO role) is reach tombstone liftetime, so I need to transfer all FSMO function into the additional domain controller.
the issue is, I had Exchange server pointing to tombstone DC. and my Exchange server cant recognize the additional DC ( the additional dc is fresh installed )
is there any issue with exchange server when I change FSMO into additional DC ?
thanksOne GC should be available at Exchange Site. For PDC migration you need to take extra care coz you have to configure the new PDC once again.

FTP proxy will impact all WLS server
Hi everybody.
I try to use proxy to FTP. But when I set the socksProxyPort, socksProxyHost. This
will impact all WLS instance. It seems due to use System.getProperties().put().
How can I use the local setting for proxy.
My code looks like this:
System.getProperties().put( "socksProxyPort", "1080");
System.getProperties().put( "socksProxyHost" ,"ftp-proxy");
Authenticator.setDefault(
new Authenticator() {
protected PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication() {
return new PasswordAuthentication("p_ebo_ldt_ftp1","opcftp123".toCharArray());
);If what Tim has suggested doesn't help, you could try to use a Proxy Automatic Configuration file. It may help forward certain protocols to use the proxy. You can find more information about PAC files here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config
Here is an example we use:
function FindProxyForURL(url, host) {
// If IP address is internal or hostname resolves to internal IP, send direct.
var resolved_ip = dnsResolve(host);
if (isInNet(resolved_ip, "10.1.0.0", "255.255.0.0"))
return "DIRECT";
else
return "PROXY 127.0.0.2:80";
I've changed the IP address values to protect the privacy of where I am employed -

Hi,
It is possible, But it has to be done through codes and iPlanet Web Server has nothing to do with it. But if you want to create the word document by ASP you have to install ASP plugin like ChilliASP (from Chilisoft) with iPlanet Web Server.Merging with database can be done through your code.
To know more abt creating word doc through ASP try this link

Does changing server names in an XI environment have any impact?
Hi experts,
can anyone answer the query below ?
what is the impact of changing server names in an XI environment ( what exchange profile parameters need to be changed if any ) what are the risks, what may or may not stop working - can you alias to the old name etc....
regards
madhuHi,
I think its possible to change the server names. But ya that would impact on the connected systems and you have to modify the RFC destinations of connected R/3 systems as well as have to update the sender and receiver systems with new XI server information
Have a look at these help:

Impact of changing vtp server name
Dear Sir,
Please let me know as below:-
1.) How's vtp works?
2.) what's the impact chaging vtp server name?
thanks.Hostname doesn't have anything to do with the VTP domain name.
VTP runs in 3 modes - Server, Client and Transparent.
In server mode you could add VLANs and it gets propogated to all other servers and clients if the domain name is the same. In client mode the switch only gets VTP updates and uses it but you can't add vlans. In transparent mode the switch that gets the update from the server forwards the VTP update but it doesn't use itself.
When you say VTP server name I assume you must be taking about VTP domain name. If you change the domain of the VTP server and if that's the master server then you could isolate that device from the other switches and it may result in a network outage.

Sundar

Ztables impact on server performance
Hi All,
My question is what is the effect of ztables on server performance?Hi Amit,
>
amit singh wrote:

could you rephrase your question, please?
The number or size of your z tables does not impact server performance as long as you
don't run SQL odr DML against them... It's the SQL and DML that impacts the (database)
server performance, not the tables...

Snow Leopard Server - Managed Dock Settings
Hello Everyone,
In our environment, we are running Snow Leopard Server 10.6.7 with a mix of 10.5 and 10.6 clients. We are managing settings via Open Directory. We have a computer group policy configured to manage our dock policy settings among a few others. Within WGM, our dock policy settings are setup to be managed "once." When the policy was configured, our Mac administrator put together a customized default dock arrangement with the most commonly utilized applications included in our base image allowing our end users to start with a small clean dock arrangement and add applications/folders as desired.
Regrettably, last week I inadvertently made a change within WGM's managed dock settings in our default production policy. The following morning, several end users logged on to find that their dock customizations had been discarded and replaced with the default setup. To minimize the impacted users, I enabled "merge with user's dock" to avoid further loss of dock customizations. Looking forward, as we roll out new hardware with new images to our existing users, I would like to start with the same scaled back dock with the commonly utilized applications included in our base image. The problem with enabling "merge with user's dock" is that the default set of Mac OS X icons is included causing the dock to be cluttered.
Is there anyway to only apply managed dock preferences if there is not a local profile on the machine the user is logging into? Any other thoughts for circumnavigating the mess I created?
Thanks!Enabling "merge with user's dock" created problems of its own by introducing duplicate icons for some users. In the end, I unchecked it. Unfortunately, all users are going to receive the default dock arrangement and have to re-customize their dock preferences as desired.

Slow merge replication over a WAN link - only downloads
Hi all,
We've been using SQL Server merge replication for a few years to synchronise data between our data centres, but we are now suffering with a big performance issue. This may be because the amount of data we are synchronising has increased a lot this year.
Our publisher is an always-on data centre in the UK. Our subscriber is a mobile data centre that travels around the world and is on for periods of up to a week at a time, approx. 25 times a year. However, it also spends the same amount of time (if not more)
switched off whilst on its travels - it is a well travelled data centre!
We have 5 database that we synchronise on these servers. However, one of our databases has high numbers of data changes between periods of subscriber downtime and our issue is that it take days to catch up when the server is powered up - the other databases
are fine.
Downloads from publisher to subscriber run at about 1.5 rows a second (which is annoying when we have hundreds of thousands of rows) but strangely uploads from subscriber to publisher run about ten times faster.
Things I have checked / tried:
all tables have non-clustered primary keys on guid columns that have the rowguid property set
changing the generation levelling threshold doesn't help
setting the agent profile to high volume doesn't help
running a trace at the publisher and subscriber shows the queries are all running very fast (less than 20 m/s generally, but there are gaps of 200 m/s or so between some batches of queries)
analysis on our WAN link shows we have huge amounts of bandwidth spare
analysis on our servers show we have huge amounts of Ram and CPU spare
Some of the places the subscriber is at do suffer from high latency but this doesn't seem to have an impact - 300 m/s or 100m/s and we still get the same poor performance.
One things I did wonder about - does the replication confirm to the publisher every time it has successfully processed a row at the subscriber? If we have thousands of rows and there is a latency on the line will this compound the issue if it confirms each
item? If this does happen, is there a way to batch up messages between publisher and subscriber?
Any help that you can offer will be gladly received!
Thanks
Mark1) merge replication processes the uploads/downloads in batches. So no, there is no confirmation for each row processes, but there is per batch. If there is an error/conflict a batch is retried as singletons (a single row processed at a time), so you need
to minimize conflicts/errors.
2) No, but you should use pull and wan accelerators for max performance and change your profile to use 2000 for the following:
MaxDownloadChanges
MaxUploadChanges
UploadGenerationsPerBatch
DownloadGenerationsPerBatch
UploadReadChangesPerBatch
DownloadReadChangesPerBatch
UploadWriteChangesPerBatch
DownloadWriteChangesPerBatch
set network packet size to a large value - you will need to work with your wan engineer to find out what works best. 32k will likely be best.
Also you may want to copy a file of a known size from your publisher to your subscriber and then from your subscriber to your publisher to see if there is a significant difference in time. For drives will yield significant differences.
I have found that you may have a trigger which is generating a large volume of unnessary changes. You will need to see what table/article is generating all the changes and evaluate whether the changes are legit.
Precomputed partitions should speed up the enumeration times. Ensure you have supporting indexes - the missing indexes DMV helps here.
Lastly you may find that a reinitialization is faster than processing the changes.

Merge Replication Error When Initialising subscription
I have a SQL server 2005 server with a merge publication of 6 articles all of which are tables which is also the distributor. I have two existing subscriptions one from a SQL 2005
Server and one from a SQL Server 2008 R2 Server both of which are working fine on this publication. I am trying to setup a third subscription to another SQL Server 2008 R2 server, the only difference with this server is that it is a named instance. I have
forced the port to 1433, and created an alias on the publisher connectivity is not an issue or at least i don't think so.
when I try to initialise the subscription from a new snapshot I get the below error;
Error: 14151, Severity: 18, State: 1.
Replication-Replication Merge Subsystem: agent failed. No subscription is on this publication or article.
I've changed the agent profile and turned on verbose logging and output the results to a file the snapshot delivery is failing on the below for the first table;
call sys.sp_MSsetup_identity_range (?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?)
I've checked the subscriber and the table does indeed get dropped and created, permissions / routes don't seem to be an issue. I've included some of the verbose logging output below.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
ChrisThe error happens on this table every time.
The schema of the table is below;
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblEmailMessages](
[EmailMessageId] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT FOR REPLICATION NOT NULL,
[Guid] [nvarchar](32) NOT NULL,
[Recipients] [varchar](8000) NOT NULL,

[rowguid] [uniqueidentifier] ROWGUIDCOL NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [MSmerge_df_rowguid_207F75F229994684BC3FAAE5BE4CD6EB] DEFAULT
(newsequentialid())
The table gets dropped and recreated each time i try to reinitialise the subscription. I can't remove the article at the moment as two other servers subscribe to the publication.
Thanks for your help

Server Admin 10.6 managing a 10.5.8 server
I'm hopeful someone can point out my error here.
I've been running the new 10.6 version of Server Admin on my 10.6 Macbook to mange my 10.5.8 server, and for a while everything seemed fine. When I'm accessing the server remotely (i.e. my client is not on the same LAN as the server) then it is working fine. An d initially this was also true when I was on the same LAN.
But in the last couple of days, and I don't think I changed anything on the server or client machine that might have impacted on this, Server Admin is reduced to a snail's pace when I try to connect to my server, but only when on the same LAN. This clearly suggests to me that DNS may be the issue, but I've looked at it again and again and can't spot anything out of the ordinary.
While it's not critical (when I'm on the LAN I can fire up Server Admin 10.5 on the server itself and work directly, but it is really annoying me nonetheless.
Regards

But in the last couple of days, and I don't think I changed anything on the server or client machine that might have impacted on this, Server Admin is reduced to a snail's pace when I try to connect to my server, but only when on the same LAN. This clearly suggests to me that DNS may be the issue, but I've looked at it again and again and can't spot anything out of the ordinary.
While it's not critical (when I'm on the LAN I can fire up Server Admin 10.5 on the server itself and work directly, but it is really annoying me nonetheless.
Regards
Graham
