Import png to pixmap with transparency

How can I import a PNG and unflatten it to create a pixmap whilst maintaining transparency in the image?
Even though I save the image with transparent pixels, when I bring it into my picture control using the "Read PNG File" and "Unflatten to Pixmap" VIs the transparent pixels are replaced with white ones. Is it something to do with a mask?
Thanks.

The Image cluster, from read PNG.vi contains these info.
In the 24 bit image info the first byte is the alpha channel.

  • Captivate Not Handling PNG-24 Buttons with Transparency

I've got a problem with the way Cp 5 is handling transparency in PNG 24 images:
I've created a button from a Photoshop CS5 comp that has a drop shadow effect.  When I insert the HelpButton_up image as an image in Captivate, the transparency works great.  When the exact same image is used in a button, I get the white halo effect on the button.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  What are the best settings to use in Photoshop to preserve drop shadow transparency in buttons?  I used "Save for web and devices" and used the PNG-24 setting with Transparency checked and Interlacing unchecked.
    Much appreciated!

    Hi Jim,
I don't know where the buttons are cached, but I have had my fair share of problems with PNG images and Captivate 5 as well. The new project approach worked for me as well, but it's pretty annoying ;o)

  • How to import pre keyed footage with transparent background?

    Hello
I am working on a small action scene and i am trying to import pre keyed muzzle flask without the black background.
i tryied everything : saving the link to the desktop as " save file as" , making the the optimize video box is unchecked, show advance tools under preferences, i tried different free site like footagecrate, detonation film and so forth. I even made sure all softwares were up to date. Finally i watch all the import video tutorials on youtube and the apple site... i am following all the steps but all footage have the dark background.
I'm really stuck if anybody can help

I did use it for some projects, but most material from Detonation Films isn't pre-keyed.
the few clips I used are simply 'on black' which allows in advanced editors like FC/e to apply a simple luma-key.
for usage in iM, the 'boom!' has to be on blue or green to apply a color-key, like this example:
or, the material contains an alpha-key, then the .mov has to be encoded in some format which does support alpha-keys, as 'Animation'.

  • Importing .psd file with transparency in Premiere Pro CS4 titler

I am trying to import a psd file with transparency into the Premiere Pro CS4 titler and the transparency will not come in. I've tried psd, png, jpeg, gif, targa and none will preserve the transparency. What I'm trying to do is create a custom lower third using a image without having to build it inside the titler or drop the PSD directly onto my timeline. This seems like an easy task, but I'm not having any luck. Please help!

Boy you guys are quick. I did not find this thread until after you'd sorted it out. You know how much I like to work on PS to PrPro problems!
    Jeff,
You might want to move this thread to the PrPro sub-forum, as it will likely help others with PSD Transparency issues, and might never get seen back here.
Like you haven't been busy doing the housekeeping already. You moved one post WHILE I was replying to it. Imagine my surprise, when I replied and ended up in the other sub-forum - as if by magic!

  • HT4641 Importing graphics with with transparent backgrounds such as .psd or .eps

I want to use this for an art project for my sons class. Can I import .psd files with transparent backgrounds as per Word, to retain the clear cut shape/opacity of background. Or can I import .eps illustrator files with transparent backgrounds? Thanks.

If you need transparency - as I stated - you need to convert the image to GIF. PSD is a layered graphic workspace file specifically for PhotoShop; EPS can be read by more applications, but is still basically a graphic print format. It might serve your customer needs, but wouldn't be the format I would recommend for general distribution. Typically you wouldn't embed EPS in another file, it would be the container for the print ready document (and the concern for transparency would be somewhat moot).
However, I'm not familiar with the intimate details of your project or customer needs, so take that for what its worth.

  • Imported pngs can be compressed, what about pngs added externally?

I love how I can import a PNG file with transparency and then
give it jpeg compression. it keeps the transparency, and the file
size is a lot smaller. What are my options when it comes to
importing external PNGs with transparency? Will I have to put each
one in its on swf and then load the swf instead? I would like to
avoid this step if possible, thanks!

You can import png directly and maintain transparency.
It would be actually much quicker to try than post and wait
    for reply, isn't ?

    maybe I didn't word my post correctly...When I import a png
to the library, i can give it jpg compression and maintain the
transparency. I want to load png files from an external source at
runtime, using the Loader class. Is there a way to give them the
jpg compression doing it this way? If not, is my only option to put
each png in its own swf and compress it, then load the swf's at

  • Export with Transparent Background

I do realize this has been asked again and again.  Just making a reality check. I created a lower third. Time and time again the import into Final Cut Pro was on a solid black background instead of a transparency.
I followed every post and followed the directions - with no success.
Finally I exported my Motion lower third as a Template.  The effect appears as a Generator in Final Cut.  When I use the created Generator in my timeline the lower third has a proper transparency and works properly.
Is that really the only way to import a Motion graphic with transparent background??     Yes, I did try creating a Movie in ProRes 4444, my project does have a transparent background selected, etc.  I feel as if I am missing something.

    Much appreciated  :-)
I purchased the lower third from Videohive.  It has the basic graphic but lacks titles. While I was watching Motion tuturials, I thought I would customize the lower third with a fancy text animation.
I tried a few experiments based on what you said.  I see now.
So it appears that even though my proxy media lacks the alpha channel and does not display with a transparency, the moment I switch FCP to view Optimized/Original media, the transparency works correctly.
So I assume I can still use proxy media (if needed) and ignore the lack of transparency until my final render.  As long as I am exporting from Motion using ProRes 4444 it should work correctly.
    Does that reasoning make sense?
Looking at many posts across the internet, I think this is the very issue that has tripped up many people.
Thank you for your helpful comment. I was going nuts trying to figure it out.

  • Imported png with transparency not working as mask

I created an image with several wavey lines in photoshop to
use as a mask layer in Flash. I "save for web" as a png with
transparency. I import it to Flash and when it is on the stage it
is indeed transparent. But when I go to use it as a mask it masks
the entire rectangle of its dimensions, not just the waves. I trade
breaking it down and converting it to a symbol but no go. What am I
    missing here?

Images are rectangle or square, even if you have transparency
or not, the entire image will be a mask.
The way you must work is usign vectorial shape as mask. You
can do it directly in Flash or use illustrator to build you shape
and then import it in Flash "Copy paste or export as swf". I know
that you have several wavey lines in photoshop. So, to keep them,
    you have 3 possibilities.
1- Simply use path in Photoshop and export them into
Illustrator set them a color and use it in Flash
    or
2- Import your image in Flash, then use the Trace Bitmap
option (Modify / Bitmap / Trace Bitmap)
    or
3- Import you PNG in Illustrator and Convert it into shape
    usign the Live Trace option.
These 3 way works great, depending on the complexity of you
graphics, each one have its own advantages

  • Importing .gif file into Pages - problem with transparency

    Hi Apple Forum,
First-timer (on the forum) here. I tried importing a .gif image (with alpha channel) into a pages document. The image was imported, but it's not transparent. In other words, the alpha channel isn't working. The problem is NOT with the opacity button, in case some one wants to suggest that as a solution. Has anyone had this issue before?

  • Framing image with transparent background png frame

    hi,
i'm trying to find a way to frame images with transparent background png frames...
    what i'm doing now is
1-drawing my image on a panel
2-creating a 2nd image using the frame's filename, stretching this 'frame-image' to a size slighlty larger than that of my main image and drawing the 'frame-image'
the problems with this method are:
1-depending on the width of the frame, the frame sometimes hides parts of the image (thick frame), and sometimes there is a gap between the frame and the image (thin frame).
2-if the image file containing the frame is larger than the frame (Ex: The image is 300x300, the frame is centered in this image and is 200x200; as opposed to the image is 200x200 and the frame takes up all the space), when i position the 'frame-image' near the top left corner of the image i want to frame, the frame appears at the wrong place (shifted down and to the right). This is due to the fact that i'm placing the top corner of the created 'frame-image' and not the frame, who is not in the top corner of my 'frame-image'.
Is there a way to do what i'm trying to do???
My ideas (which i don't know how to achieve are)
1-To 'analyse' my transparent background png file and
         1-only keep the frame,
         2-calculate the frame's thickness
    OR
2-Let java do the analyzing for me and tell it to frame my image with the frame in the png file
please feel free to ask for more explanations if my description/question is confusing,
    thanks.

Have you looked into the Border interface? If what you really want to do
is put a custom border on a component, you may be able to do it this way.
Anyway, here is some code that stacks and centres 2 images. It's not hard to do.

  • Png Files with transparency

I'm wanting to use iPhoto to organize my scrapbooking graphics. Problem is that the majority are png with transparency. When I imported them, all of the transparent portions of the images appeared in black, so many of them just look like black squares, because it's a black image on transparent background.
Is there any way to get the png to look normal or is this a flaw in iPhoto. Does iPhoto 6 fix this problem?
    Thanks.
    Rayne

After doing a little more investigating, I realized that iPhoto is generating the thumbnails in jpg, therefore creating a non-transparent thumbnail. When the image is viewed full size, it appears fine. So it's just the thumbnail that is causing the problem.
Is there a way to get it to generate thumbnails so that the transparent portions get filled with white instead of black? I use a white background in iPhoto so this would make them appear transparent. Or at least I'd be able to see the transparent portions better regardless of which background I use.
    Thanks.

  • Transparency/Alpha Great Mystery (IMPORTED PNG Sequence)

Ok, this one is going to fall under the "I would LOVE to get an explanation of this one!" category. Just when I thought I knew everything about transparency and alpha channels, etc ...
The problem: I am importing a PNG sequence into After Effects (CS 5.5), however AE refuses to see the Alpha channel contained within the sequence. Now before anyone jumps the gun and says, "But wait, PNG does not really support alpha, it just supports transparency!" Right, something I just learned, and still -- quite honestly -- baffles the heck out of me.
But anyway, another PNG sequence exported from the exact same program, imports into After Effects just fine with an "alpha channel" and all. I double-checked, and there is NOT an option in the program to export the PNG without transparency info.
Importing sample images from each sequence reveals the EXACT SAME THING ... both have transparency, but NEITHER have an alpha-channel per se.
    Sooo ...
    1) ANY idea why in the heck AE would interpret one's transparency, and not the other?
    2) Is there a way to FORCE AE to see the transparency of the one?
    3) IF not, is there something out there that will convert the PNG's with transparency to another format (TIF, TGA, PSD) with an alpha? I just don't want to have to re-render the sequences again.
ANY insight into this bizarre-ness would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Ok another follow-up with interesting results ...
    1) The second sequence I have that I tried to batch in PS, did not turn out correctly.  Investinging with a single frame inside PS revealed that it was not simply adding a selection to the "solid" parts, but actually sections within the solid parts.  (To make it clearer, the animation is a zoom out from an open 3D book.  Instead of making a selection of the book, it selected the book, and then various things contained on the book.  Not sure where it was getting this selection from.
    2) In AE, I simply moved those frames in the beginning where there would not be an alpha channel (or need of one) because the book is filling the entire frame.  I then imported the remaining frames and it saw the alpha channel with no problem. I then just added the starting frames as a seperate sequence to the begininnig of the timeline, and wallla ... problem solved.
So I can only surmise that the 3D app did not -- oddly enough) output any alpha/transparency info for those first 60-or-so frames where the book filled the entire frame.  Thus, AE -- looking at the first frame with no alpha info -- rightfully concluded that there wasn't any, and igores the transparency info.
The other PNG sequences did not start with object(s) filling the entire frame, so alpha info was written to the first frame for those.  I can test this theory pretty easily.  I could probably, now that I think about it, even just have created a frame 0000 with some alpha info, and then it would have worked (possibly.)

I am using iPhoto to organize my digital scrapbooking graphics. Problem is that the majority are png with transparency. Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It's not a flaw but just the nature of the beast. iPhoto is set to display transparent backgrounds as black. Send a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • Transparency not working on smartshape button filled with transparent (PNG) image.

I'm using Captivate 8 and have had no problems so far importing PNG images with transparent backgrounds.....that is until I try and make a smartshape button and import a transparent PNG image as the background.
It displays fine on screen, but whenever I preview it or publish, the white background of the image/button displays. Is this a known Captivate 8 limitation?
Sorry if this is a repeated question....I've tried trawling through the forums and all I can see is to try different file formats for the images, such as GIF or BMP, which I've tried and nothing works.
    Any advice or suggestions?

If it is a button, what is inserted for Rollover and Down state? I just recreated a shape button, with three different images for the states. All are in one PS-file as layers which I imported into Captivate. I kept Stretched checked in this case, because I know there is sometimes a slight change in size between states. Here are screenshots of Up, Rollover and Down state. The stroke was set to 0 for the shape, but to prevent all color contamination I also set stroke to the color of the background (light grey). In the first (Up) image you can clearly see where the stroke is due to truncation of the Question mark.
Seems only possibility is in the creation of the PNG's? What was your work flow?
