Imported images are given "flash" as white balance

Since I implemented LR3 and played around a.o. with some presets, all of my images (RAW) at import are transformed to the "flash" white balance, as shown in the Library right colomn and as can be seen in the image.
The images come out of the camera with a wb-info as the one set to the camera when shooting the image, so no problem with the camera. So I suspected some initial preset, but couldn't find it. Then, I imported the files into Photoshop 4 and Elements, and exactly the same thing happens: they convert immediately to the flash WB. So, is there a settings file that is shared by all three programs?
I checked the same files on my lap-top with LR3, and there LR shows the wb settings that I set on my camera; so the problem is with settings on my one PC.
Has anybody any idea how to get rid of this setting?

My surprise is that the other programs use the same defaults apparently
The Default you set in LR is valid for ACR, no matter whether used under LR or under PS/PSE. Their values are also stored in the Camera Raw settings directory, not in the LR directory.

  • Way to verify if newly imported images ARE NOT already in database?

i keep my images in Aperture on v3.4.5 on my Mac Pro and in the past have simply imported images using USB. after starting to use Photo Stream over the last two years it has seemed to me (just from a kind of naive look) that some of my images from my iPhone get imported to the MBP into Photo Stream (Aperture v3.5.1), some to the Mac Pro, and (i assume) some to both.
it also appears to me that if you /change/ your settings for Do Not Import Duplicates from Yes to No, or from No to Yes, (i.e. check or uncheck this option) that it is very easy to ALSO end up (say for instance on my Mac Pro where all my images are supposed to be neatly stored) with /some/ of your images ONLY in the PhotoStream project /and/ also to have some other images in BOTH the Photo Stream projects /and/ in the "non-Photo Stream projects" (i.e. in "regular" projects).
just having this latter issue basically makes a total mess of your database (since you have /some/ of your images /only/ in the Photo Stream projects) but if you add the former issue (some images only in the MBP database and some only in the Mac Pro database) then things are almost truly wrecked.
so - what i would like to know is if i EXPORT images from my MacBook Pro and i then IMPORT them into the Mac Pro database should Aperture pick up duplicates if i have Do Not Import Duplicates checked? also, i would like to know if it is possible to VERIFY through some method whether the newly imported images are, or are not, already in the database.
i am currently exporting images from the monthly dated Photo Stream projects on my MacBook Pro and then importing the images into the respective Photo Stream projects on my Mac Pro - and it does in fact seem to me that these photos do NOT exist in the Photo Stream projects on my Mac Pro. i say this since the new images get added to the Photo Stream project for that month with the next chronological number in that month (at least on my first month i have tested). they also do not seem to exist already in the Photo Stream database in, for instance, the next month which is where i would logically look for them. this then would mean that there is a very large amount of image loss in my database which is a problem.
so what i would like to do is /check/ somehow to see if the images may in fact be already in the database but happen to have not made it into the Photo Stream project for the month (i.e. they /only/ exist somewhere else in the non-Photo Stream projects).
note: for instance can i manually search somehow for "IMG_6789", which just came in with 250+ images in from "Feb 2013 Photo Stream" on my MBP and is now in "Feb 2013 Photo Stream" on my Mac Pro to verify whether this already exists or has been newly added?
please not that i cannot visually search for anything because the database is too large and i do not know where this image may reside without searching or finding it through a Aperture command.
    THANKS

hi leonie. thank you for this help.
first can you please tell me if setting Photo Stream on my Mac Pro to ON and turning Do Not Import Duplicates to CHECKED/ON (say if i start new with Photo Stream) has the consequence of ONLY importing images to my PS projects via WiFI and that any time i hook up my phone via USB (as i /had/ been doing) Aperture will then only import anything that has NOT already been imported to PS projects and it will put this in a "non-Photo Stream project"? i mean, i have realized recently that turning this ON may have completely changed the way i import images and done so in a way that puts some images from Camera Roll in one place and some images in another place.
i will divide up the rest into two parts:
    1. can you please tell me what the actual difference is between exporting images as Kind Versions and Kind Originals? i am (unfortunately) already doing this as Kind Versions and it appears to be working at least visually - by which i mean when i import photos in this manner to the Mac Pro that these images come into the monthly projects with images and file numbers that do not currently exist in this album. this means that these images (so far ALL of them) were in the laptop database but not on the desktop database (at least as far as Photo Stream is concerned which is all i can figure out right now).
i think it is in fact possible that these images may exist elsewhere in the database (and that Aperture is not picking up the fact that these are duplicates for some reason) but unless i am missing something won't this simply mean that i have a FULL SET of images in the Photo Stream database? anyway, i am not sure which is better - to catch these coming in as duplicates and to not import them or to import them into the Photo Stream projects, have them all in the database in these projects, and to deal with how they exist out of the Photo Stream projects by putting them where they belong and then running a de-duplication routine.
    2. the issue that i have been able to understand (with your help) is that when i turned Photo Stream ON, that this Do Not Import Duplicates setting was somewhere buried in my UI independent of Photo Stream settings (which has it's own poorly explained and poorly understood settings) and that this was set to ON or it was set to OFF. if it was CHECKED/ON then i was /ONLY/ importing images to my PS projects which was a total 180 degree change from my normal Aperture methodology and simply put images into PS projects and NOTHING went into my normal projects to sort later as i had been doing. then to compound the issue - when i hooked up my iPhone it would ONLY import images that did /not/ get synced to Aperture and get uploaded to the PS projects and it would tell me how many were already imported and how many were new and APERTURE WOULD SPLIT THESE UP INTO non-PS projects and PS projects which basically makes a total mess of my database.
i mean, what you were able to show me is that i DON'T KNOW what i had set originally but i think i had this setting set to OFF which would give me images both in the PS projects and in the non-PS projects as duplicates (assuming there weren't other issues) but i would ideally like to have had PS projects as just a kind of appendage or an unimportant piece of my database for reference only and to keep importing images via USB as i had done in the past and if this is what i had wanted (and if Photo Stream was implemented in an intuitive way that i as an intelligent computer person could understand) - well i would have set the do not import duplicates to OFF so that the PS images were duplicates of my normal USB imports.
but this - as i write - makes me realize that it has the unintended consequence of letting me import CAMERA ROLL images that were not deleted into my "non-Photo Stream projects" which as you indicate i don't want so this setting seems like it sets up a classic catch 22.

  • Images look different with same white balance

    Hey folks,
Just ran some tests between a Nikon D300 and a Nikon D7000. I pulled both images into Lightroom 3.4 (PC), and matched the white balance using the White Balance Selector tool and a WhiBal card in a test image. And even though they now have the same white balance, the colors are distinctly different. How is this possible? (The same image shot with a D200 looks nearly identical to the D300.) Examples:
    D7000
    D300
    All other specs the same:
    Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 @50mm
    1/80 @ f/5.6, ISO 200
    RAW
    Color space: AdobeRGB
    Picture Control setting: SD (standard)
Custom white balance from WhiBal card, matched in Lightroom 3.4: 5200, +38
I need to be able to shoot with multiple bodies and sync them so I don't have to adjust the batches separately.
    Thanks in advance

WB is not the only factor involved in how colour is created in a digital image. The WB just sets the colour temperature. How the colour is created is effected by many other factors, hence calibration profiles. By calibrating the sensor you can produce a standardised response for a particular individual sensor. You could then carefully match this with a different sensor. However there will always be subtle differences. It would be far easier when requiring a particular shoot to have exactly the same look, to use one camera and one lens to achieve it.
When making a film,  directors, such as Hitchcock, would insist on not only using the same film stock, from the same batch, but in the case of Vertigo even had the same water source used for all processing to achieve the look he was after.

  • SWIM Jobs show failed but all images are in flash

I performed a software distribution on two different 3750 switch stacks using LMS 4.2.3 over a WAN link.
    The Job Report shows this:
Copying c3750-ipbaselmk9-tar.122-55.SE4.tar from Software Repository to tftp-specific directory.
    Copied successfully to C:/CSCOpx/tftpboot/rep_sw_3381422663941666305
Loading image file to flash device : rep_sw_3381422663941666305 --> flash1:c3750-ipbaselmk9-tar.122-55.SE4.tar using TFTP
Error loading image to Flash. See C:\CSCOpx\files\rme\jobs\swim\5373\3750Stack_telnet.log for the output from the device on which the image transfer failed.
    Image Copy Operation Failed
    Device is unlocked.
    Device Upgrade Result : Failed
However, when I look at the flash on both stacks, the IOS image with the correct filesize, folders, etc. all looks right. The show boot shows it will boot to the correct image. The telnet.log file shows all the files being copied and just ends after the last file (the .bin image).
Does anyone know why this might report as failed even though the files are in flash?
I have not yet reloaded either switch as they are in production.
    Thanks.

OK I reloaded one of the stacks and it came up fine.
Could this error be due to the fact that the upgrade was done over a WAN link and I did not put exec-timeout 0 0 on the line vty?

  • All the imported images are gone

I've made an animation in Adope Edge Animate with a lot of images imported from the same directory folder as the animation.
But the next time i had started up the animation, all the images are gone. The animation is saying they are still there, like in the elements and the timeline section, but doesn't show them.
Does anyone know the problem? Maybe you have to show the directory folder of the images again or something?

Is the images folder  in the composition folder  present?
If you delete it your images are lost and do not show up .
If that folder is present ,can you PM/post your animate files.I can have a look.

  • Imported images are there but won't display

    Hello,
I'm new to Lightroom, but not to digital imaging.  I am deciding on whether to use Lightroom as archive software.  I've imported photos with various file types into Lightroom, copying them to the default locations, and converting the NEF photos to .dng files.  Everything looks like it should in terms of the listings on the left, and the files are where they are supposed to be, in the default locations, and are openable and viewable in photoshop.
The problem is that all that is displayed in the middle viewer are greyed rectangles.  No images.  I can export an image in a completely different file type to an external location and view it properly.  So all the images are there and LR knows where they are (since it both created and put them there).  The filmstrip at the bottom is also just grey rectangles.
I have no idea what is preventing the images from showing up and I am hoping that someone here can help.  I am running XP SP3, and Lightroom 2.5 632038 Raw 5.6.  I am importing Nikon NEF files created by both a D300 camera and Coolpix 4000 Scanner.  Photoshop reads all of these raw images with their plug-ins.  By the way, I have also imported jpg and tiff files and they do not appear in the display either.
    Thanks in advance

    Hal,
I'm impressed.  That was fast and accurate response.  I was getting around to a video driver or monitor issue next.  I have a Sony Artisan, which is highly calibrateable, but it is not with me, and have been using an available Dell 2408W flat screen monitor.  I have Monaco EZcolor for my Epson scanner, with color target, but no display calibrator for the Dell.  I tried doing a rough one but it obviously didn't work.  Switching to any of the internal profiles for the monitor fixed the problem.  Looking at monitor calibration devices brought up the following question, which maybe you might answer.  I can buy a Monico XR or X-rite i1 device.  I don't know if both will work with EZcolor, or if I should be looking at something more current.  Of course, I can go get my Artisan, but it would be nice to be able to calibrate the monitor I'm using.
Thanks again for your right on diagnosis.

  • Imported Images are flipped

Images are now importing flipped horizontally. Huh?  I see  them as expected in the File Browser window, but when imported, it's flipped.
I did change one intentionally a while back using the properties Y-Rotation. But I've checked that setting. Now every image is flipped.  I don't see anything in the Project Settings, or Preferences, HUD... What have I done? Where can I look to see why it's happening? TIA

Bingo - Brilliant, thanx so much.  Will know for next time.  Videos were doing the same thing in THAT group only.
Again,  Thank you for smart thinking.

  • Raw Imported images are too dark

When I import RAW files from my Nikon D80 they are much darker than they show in the camera's display and I'm always obliged to boost exposure in AP2 by at least 1 to 1,5 step. This doesn't happen if I shoot in JPEG. There is anything wrong in the camera's setup ?

It is worth knowing a little bit about how your D80 processes images in the camera to help answer this one.
When you take a photo, the camera's sensor records the image as a RAW image. It you have selected RAW storage, then this image is stored directly on the compact flash card. However, if you have set the camera to JPEG, then the image adjustment settings set on the camera are used to process the RAW image as it is converted into a JPEG image. These settings are set through your camera's menu. Therefore, the same photo will be stored differently if it has been shot as RAW or JPEG.
Now, when import the RAW image into Aperture, you are seeing the image as recorded by your cameras sensor with no adjustments made. When you import the JPEG image into Aperture, it will already include the camera's adjustments.
Therefore, the differences you are seeing is due to the camera settings that are adjusting the image before it is saved as a JPEG. I would assume that the settings are increasing the exposure.
As an afterthought, it is worth checking if the 'Optimise Image' settings (on my D70, found under the camera settings menu) are making an impact. Best to turn off all settings (or reset them to default) and then retest a shot.

  • "Imported" images are on disk but show up as grey rectangles in Lightroom 4 and 5

All of a sudden, images "imported" into Lightroom 4 started showing up only as gray rectangles.  The first set of images on the card had been "imported" with no issues.  The second set of uploads (different images) have always shown up as gray rectangles (from the first "import").  Same result when I removed the Lightroom folder and used a card reader instead of straight from the camera.  I tried images from another card in another camera and got the same result, so it seems like a software issue.    In hopes of fixing the problem, I upgraded to Lightroom 5 (it was time anyway).  But the upgrade of the original Lightroom 4 catalog to a Lightroom 5 catalog did not solve the problem.  Based on my research on this site, I trashed and replaced my Preferences file but everything remains gray rectangles.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to try is to recalibrate your display. This is often caused by a bad display profile. Second thing is to delete the previews on your images and have Lightroom rebuild them.

  • After adjusting white balance in ACR, images are opening in Ps at a different size.

Can anyone explain like I'm 5 why this is happening, and how to prevent it? Thanks!
Negatives are scanned at 3200dpi, and 24bit depth. This is the metadata from Bridge.
    Default settings in Camera Raw
    After opening in Photoshop.

Scanned direclty into photoshop. And if I open the tif from explorer or bridge, bypassing Camera Raw, it opens as the 75mb file size. I thought it might have somethign to do with the color, as Bridge labels bits/channel as 'Bit depth', but the images all are 24bit, even after White Balance correction in Camera Raw.
Thanks for taking the time to help me figure this out. It's been causing a huge problem this week.

  • Imported from cf but all images are mixed up

I have downloaded LR for a 30 day trial.  I have succesfully imported images from
    compact flash memory card.
BUT The images have not downloaded in order of the time taken.  I therefore have a jumble of different photo shoots.
What do I need to do to avoid this happening again ?
How can I quickly sort these into the relevant folders so I can find them again eg: Wedding one, two, three
Thank U - Hoping someone can advise x

Try changing the Sort order from Added Order to Captured Time when in the Library module, either using the View / Sort menu item up top, or using the Toolbar along the bottom of the Grid view that you may need to make visible using the T key.
As far as sorting things quickly into relevant folders, what folder or folders on your hard-drive are the photos in, now, and do the folders already exist you want to move the photos to or will you be creating them?
The way I move photos from one folder to a set of folders I create, is to select the photos I want to move in the Grid view, then go over to the folder listing at the left and right-click on the folder than is above where I want to create a new folder, then choose Create Folder Inside "xxxxxxxx", type in a name and also make sure Include Selected Photos is enabled, and then click Ok.
If the destination folder already exists in the folder list at the left, then just right-click on that folder in the folder view at the left and choose the Move option.

  • Why does adobe camera raw keep saving images with the incorrect white balance?

I am having an issue when I edit images.  here is the scenerio:
I choose 50 Raw files and open them in Camera Raw.
I edit each individually - many of them have different white balances.
Once I have each image how I want them, I select all and click done.
Sometimes all the edits are saved correctly, but very often all the changes are saved correctly except white balance.  The program seems to take the white balance from one image and applies it to all the images.
Why???  Very frustrating to have to go back and individually edit all the white balances again.
    Thanks!

It seems to not happen if I slow down a few seconds before I click select all and then done.
That should not be the problem, once you changed settings and hitting done they all should be applied immediately. It even is not needed to first select all, that is only needed when you need to open or save the files.
But I still don't know why it would only change the white balance in every shot and not everything.
If it happens again could you first in Bridge select one of the none changed files and with right mouse click menu choose select purge cache for selection?
And can you provide more details about system version, app versions and file types?

  • My images are going from from camera raw to totally white in Photoshop CS6, I am using a Mac computer.

  • Apply White Balance To Multiple Images

Now that I'm shooting RAW all the time, I'm really, REALLY getting tired of having to manually change the white balance for every single image. As many of you probably know, you can select any number of images in Abode RAW, and then use your WB source image to mass-apply the white balance to said images. Further, you can select images and then contextual-menu to apply changes.
For the life of me, I cannot see how to do this in Aperture. I've tried everything I know to do, but I still have to manually activate individual images and then set the WB. If I could mass-apply a preset to a group of pics, that'd be passable -- but I don't see how to do that, either.
    Thoughts? Advice? Solutions?
    Thanks,
    Maury

Hello! One way to do it is to first make sure that Primary Only is off. Then make the white balance correction to an image. Then use the Lift tool to lift the white balance off it. A dialog box will open showing you what is being lifted. Now you can shift-select a beginning image and an ending image. The shift-select will apply the Stamp to everything in between.
