Importing Fireworks CC html into Dreamweaver CC

Hi guys. Hope you can assist.
I have never encountered this problem before. I have always used Fireworks to "cut up" my flat designs from Photoshop, export it as html (nav bars, footers, etc) and then I simply import it into a Dreamweaver html page in which I have created a table.
Now I suddenly have an issue where the Fireworks html table is broken once I import it into Dreamweaver - viewed by itself it's perfect - even in Dreamweaver its perfect. It also adds a space underneath the FW html/table.
Only when I view it in a browser does it appear messed up.
What is causing this?
Thanks in advance.

That looks like it could be the browser default text descender padding from the html5 doctype, and/or the IE linked image border.
Add the following to your css...
img {
     display:block;
a img {
     border:none;

  • Import fireworks cs3 slideshow into Dreamweaver 8

Hello, Im trying to get a slideshow created in Fireworks cs3 to work in Dreamweaver 8. I cant seem to get the html file it generates to slot into a Dreamweaver page. When I double click on the slideshow html file in Dreamweaver it opens a page that looks as though nothing is on it, just a lot of shading and a missing image, but tappin F12 to view in browser shows the slideshow works, but how do I get it into a page in Dreamweaver? Thanks in advance

Hello again Pziecina, just wanted to say a very quick thank you. I think I can get the slideshow to work if I remake parts of my site, but I have 5 assignments on the go and thats not really feasible right now, but what really interested me was the links you posted yesterday regarding CSS. As mentioned I have 5 live assignments and have been spending my mornings/afternoons/evenings whittling them down, and when I posted here yesterday I was a little worn out, and my focus was not what it could, or should be. But late last night I took an hours break and had a proper look at the CSS tutorials you posted, and would like to say a very big THANKYOU, although its a bit off topic, I was a little apprehensive of CSS, but one hour into the first tutorial and Im hooked, thats not to say Im anywhere near proficient, but really enjoyed myself following the tutorial, (even though it was at the expense of assignment time ), so, very glad I came here with my slideshow problem, and thanks again

  • Inserting fireworks html into dreamweaver css

I have been using Fireworks CS4 to design layouts and export CSS into Dreamweaver CS4, which works just fine.
I want to import a Fireworks HTML pop-up menu in my CSS based Dreamweaver page.  I have used Fireworks Export HTML and Dreamweaver's insert Fireworks HTML in the past but the pop-up behaviours are lost when I import it into a template that is CSS based.   I figure I'm missing something simple, as usual.
Can the two be mixed?  Do I need to edit the code view and insert a DIV manually or something?  Can I just link to it with css somehow?
    Getting rather frustrated now!

I had a lengthy reply written for this but lost it when I was logged out - seems the forum has a bit of a problem at the moment  (at least for me !).
I'm not up to re-writing it all again, but in essence, I agree totally with Nancy, do not use html generated by Fireworks or any graphics program for that matter.  If you were to ask the same question over at the FWs forum, you would be told the same thing, exporting HTML and CSS is ok for protypes, but not for live production sites.

The rule of thumb is to design the layout in FWs but build the site in Dreamweaver.  The Spry menus are much better than the old popup menus, but the customisation of them does depend on your knowledge of CSS.

There are many websites that show how to use CSS to create nicely styled menus, including Dropdowns and I'm sure with a lot less code bloat  :-)

  • Video is not scaling properly when importing a flv file into dreamweaver

Hi I have recently imported a flv video into dreamweaver and i have specified the width and height (including skin size)  but i keep getting white margins at the bottom or the top of the video.  It has nothing to do with the css because ive checked and when i change the size of the video in the html file it worked for some browers - google chrome, firefox but still had the white border on internet explorer.  I dont understand why different browers are rendering a video width and height different and whats causing the white borders to be there in the first place.  Can anyone help me with this?
I have spent two weeks trying to sort this out after failing to add a clickable thumbnail to play the video as the video image on the site is black which doesnt look very good.  Is there any way that i can choose the thumbnail that flash player decides to feature for the video?  I know you can do this with youtube videos.
    website in question - www.juanajimenezflamenco.co.uk/videos.html

I just don't see any white border on the right hand videos... if the problem continues, post a screen shot of what you are seeing. Also, 250 x 199 is not a 4:3 aspect ratio... 250/4 = 62.5, 62.5x3= 187.5.... so you are off by 11 pixels or so. Correct height for a 250 wide video shot at 4:3 aspect ratio, is 188px.
Now on the left hand YouTube videos, the controls are under the video, not over the top of the video as the right hand videos are... so the height of the <object>.... not the video itself... the <object> needs to be tall enough to hold the video and the controls (video height + controls height).
And since you are working in standard 4:3 aspect ratio video, you need to be careful to select the correct pixel shape, square or rectangle when starting any video project. Your video editing program, Premiere Elements should allow you to select between square pixels (used in computer monitors) or rectangle pixels (used in TVs). Selecting the wrong shaped pixel at the very start of the video capture process can mean distorted video once you render the project.
Because TV pixels are rectangle, slightly taller than they are wide... it doesn't take as many rectangle TV pixels to equal the same height as square computor monitor pixels. For example, when you start a video project to output to DVD (TV viewing) you would choose rectangle pixels, so a 720 x 480 video dimensions would give you the correct 4:3 aspect ratio.... for TV.... but 720 x 480 is NOT a 4:3 aspect ratio mathmatically ... 720/4=180, 180x3=540 !! So for computer monitor viewing you would select square pixels at the very start of your video capture process and capture the video at 720x540, giving you the correct video aspect ratio for viewing on monitors.
So besides setting the correct aspect ratio for the video in the <object> be sure that you started with the correct pixel shape.
This might also give you some help... or just Google "square vs rectangle pixels" for more info:

  • Problem with exporting Fireworks mock-up into Dreamweaver

    Hallo everyone,
I’m  beginner in Fireworks and Dreamweaver. Right now I am working on a  mock-up of a web-site in Fireworks. Just for practice, I created very  simple structure in Fireworks CS5 (two rectangles with one line of text  in 3 different languages placed into one rectangle). When I exported  created page into Dreamweaver CS5 as Html and Images, it looked nice  (obviously, since it is Html and Images). Then I tried to export the  page as CSS and Images. The strange thing is that the page looks fine  when displayed in Firefox, but the text breaks into two lines when  displayed in Explorer or Opera. Moreover, the design of the page in  Dreamweaver doesn’t replicate the Fireworks’ mock-up and looks not as  nice as in Fireworks. For you reference I am including the Html and CSS  code that was created by Fireworks. Does anybody have an idea what is  happening and what should I do to prevent this kind of problems when  trying exporting more complicated Fireworks mock-ups?
    Sincerely yours,

  • Importing Flash Catalyst file into Dreamweaver

Is it possible to import or use a swf file created in Flash Cataylst into Dreamweaver?
    stevent2011

Yes, Flash Catalyst content can be used in Dreamweaver. However, the version of swfObject might be out of date. You might need to look at the object code in the html. When you publish from Flash Catalyst, there is also a main.html file that you can use a reference for the html.

  • How do I import my GoLove sites into Dreamweaver CC?

    Hello

There's nothing much to import.  Simply Define a site in DW by going to Site > New Site.  Tell DW where on your hard drive to find your GoLive Site files.  See screenshot.
Given that GL generated code that doesn't meet current web standards and used proprietary stuff that isn't supported in DW, you will have to clean things up quite a bit and find replacements for any automated features or extensions you may have used in your GL site.
Most people find it's cleaner in the long run to just rebuild their site in DW.  Start with a new layout -- New > Blank page > HTML.  Select a layout from the 3rd panel & hit CREATE.  SaveAs index.html.  Repeat for other site pages.
Then it's just a matter of copying & pasting old content into your new site layout.
    Good luck!

  • Import Business Catalyst site into Dreamweaver {subject edited by moderator}

I created a website using Dreamweaver CC. I added business catalyst extension and want to use its feature for the site I created within Dreamweaver.  However, every time I tried to open up the business catalyst section, it wants me to create a new trial site.  How do I skip this step and integrate what I already created using Dreamweaver CC?  I don't want to have a trial site. I want to use what I already created using Dreamweaver CC with the business catalyst extension.  Help!!!!

I'm afraid that's how Business Catalyst works.  You can't just upload any site to BC servers.  You must first create a BC account, create a BC site template, edit your template, activate BC modules, etc...  If all you want is to host your DW site without rebuilding it with BC, I suggest you look for commercial web hosting someplace else.

  • How do i import a frontpage website into dreamweaver cs5,we're just switching

please don't laugh, we were still stuck in old school

If the files are already on your hard drive, just create a site in Dreamweaver and point to that folder on your hard drive.  If they are just on a server, create a site, enter the remote data in and click the Get button (down arrow) in the file window to get the files off the server and onto your computer for editing.
There is probably a lot more that you will need to go through just knowing how Frontpage code worked, but I assume you already knew that and it was part of the reason for switching to Dreamwaever.  So welcome, and if you have any other questions transferring over or editing pages just feel free to post back.

  • Issues "Importing Fireworks HTML"...

    Howdy!
I am creating a website in Dreamweaver CS3, and I am currently having some issues importing Fireworks HTML.
Here's some background information with my project...
I began with creating an HTML template in dreamweaver. I then created a Fireworks project with an Image Swap and a drop down menu. I then exported the Fireworks project into HTML (which I used the "Use CSS for Popup Menus" option in the export options). After I use the "Import Fireworks HTML" on my Dreamweaver template in Dreamweaver CS3, the popup menus from the fireworks HTML is placed in very odd positions on the template.
Here are a few pictures to show you what I mean:
This is the exported Fireworks HTML all by itself, in the correct positioning...
This is what it looks like after I use the "Import Fireworks HTML" option in Dreamweaver...
Anyway, in the second picture you can see that I have multiple icons, and these icons also have Fireworks-created popup menus. When I import these separate Fireworks-HTML-created icons individually, it is a non-issue.
Is there a workaround for this issue? Or is this the first time anybody has seen this??
Any answers would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks all!!

  • How to import Muse into Dreamweaver

I am trying to import my muse website into Dreamweaver because i want do design my website in muse and then use PHP and MySQL to make blogs and membership systems etc. When I open dreamweaver and right-click  on the Muse website and press "Open With - Dreamweaver", it starts opening it (it only opens the Muse website and just shows a blank HTML)... then Dreamweaver stops responding and i have to close it. If there is any way of making a membership system and blog in Muse (which only certain people can edit [not using Muse]) then please reply an answer... or if possible can people please respond on how to open a muse website in dreamweaver.
    Thanks in Advance
    Richard

As a non-coding designer, I'd rather design and hand off or collaborate with a Dreamwear person who can do the html coding and maintenance. My interest is in what the viewer sees and how they use it, not necessarily know how to create code. Most of us know how to drive a car, but few know how to build one. Rather than let Muse become a "whipping post" and the bane of all Dreamweaver coders, perhaps Adobe might entertain the idea of making Muse files Dreamweaver friendly. They certainly have accomplished this in other areas ala Creative Suite. Business Catalyst is just their answer solutiion, but for many clients, isn't the way they conduct their business.
So  in the meantime, it would great if people who are Dreamweaver evangelists provide some insight about figuring out how best to make things work. I mean it's you folks that are working under the hood. And, I respect that.
    Thanks,

  • Importing Flash Menu in to Dreamweaver

    Hello
I've created a drop down menu in flash using this
    instructional tool:
Everything looks great but now I need to get it into my
dreamweaver page. It needs to be inserted into a long, horizontal
bar which will contain other drop down menu buttons just like it.
When someone rolls over any of the drop downs, the actual drop down
area of the flash file needs to lay over the content that is below
    the horizontal bar.
I don't know how to do this. All I know how to do is import a
flash file into dreamweaver somewhere on a page, which just pushes
everything down, instead just showing the main button area of the
flash file, with the drop down section of the flash file laying
over the content on the dreamweaver page... not shifting it.
I'm not the best at explaining these things so I hope someone
    understands and has some help!

Please post a link to your problem page

  • Inserting Fireworks HTML into a Dreamweaver template

I've created a dreamweaver cs3 template for my website. I've
also created a menu in fireworks which has popup menu's. If I
create a new page (not from a template) and insert the fireworks
html, everything works fine when I try to preview it.
However, if I insert the fireworks html into a page created
from a template, or even the original template file, the image of
the menu is inserted and can be viewed, but the popup menu's do not
    appear. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Which version of FW? If FWMX 2004 or earlier, you would need
    to read this
    carefully -
