Importing your new verisign/thawte certificate

When you get your certificate from one of these companies, when using the keytool -import option, must you chose the 'trustcacerts' option?? When i have been importing the cerificate i get the error its not trusted......

Question about the certificate you are importing... Did you generate a key, export a request, submit it to Verisign and are now importing the response. Or are you trying to import another type of Certificate from Verisign like an HHTPS SSL Cert for a web site?
When you import a certificate (not a signing response) from verisign in general it should look like:
Owner: C=.....
Issuer: CN=Verisign....
Serial number: 3294872342984...
Valid from: Tue Sep 25 20:00:00 EDT 2001 until: Thu Sep 26 19:59:59 EDT 2002
Certificate fingerprints:
MD5: D4:3D....
SHA1: D3:4E:F1....
Trust this certificate? [no]:
When you import an un-verified cert is should look like:
Owner: CN=x, OU=x, O=x, L=x, ST=x, C=x
Issuer: CN=x, OU=x, O=x, L=x, ST=x, C=x
Serial number: 3bd99f85
Valid from: Fri Oct 26 13:38:13 EDT 2001 until: Thu Jan 24 12:38:13 EST 2002
Certificate fingerprints:

SHA1: D2:E0:DA:4D:DA:8F:EC:1B:CA:B3:5C:C0:B0:F4:F2:DC:44:3A:0F:A1
Trust this certificate? [no]:
When you import a response it will look like this:
Top-level certificate in reply:
Owner: CN=VeriSign Class 3 CA - Commercial Content/Software Publisher, OU="www.verisign.com/repository/RPA Incorp. by Ref.,LIAB.LTD(c)98", OU=VeriSign Trust Network, O="VeriSign, Inc."
Issuer: OU=Class 3 Public Primary Certification uthority, O="VeriSign, Inc.", C=US

  • Renew Verisign ssl certificate for webaccess

Hi, We have just had our current Verisign ssl certificate expire.

The webaccess application is running on a Netware 6.5 sp5 - which is running Apache ver 2.0.54 & Tomcat 4 and also has tomcat5 in the DMZ.
I have come across a number of support Tids about renewing ssl into edir, but i am looking for some steps to run through regarding WEBACCESS.
My web app team have just bought a new verisign ssl certicate.
What do i do from here to renew the webaccess application with the new Verisign ssl certificate.
Anything that can help with this regarding webaccess and verisign ssl renew certifcaite instruction steps would be helpful.
    regards

  • TS2972 How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

You do not have to move it as such. Here are the steps to setup HomeSharing
    1) Ctrl B to turn on the top menu
    2) File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share enter your apple id and password, click create
    3) repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other computer and create home share using the same apple id and password
On your new machine if you have turned on the left hand sidebar the Shared Library should be about halfway down like this.
Select the songs you want and click import at the bottom right. If you want all songs then I would select one song nad Ctrl A to select all
Finally if you have a lot of songs to transfer Switch off the wifi on the old computer. Leave the wifi on the new one. Connect with an ehternet network cable. The copying speed is way faster.
Click import and grab a coffee

  • Mail using old instead of new X.509 certificate, two certs causes problems

I have two X.509 Thawte certificates on my key chain. One expires in 2008, the other expires later in 2007. The 2008 certificate has an additional email address embedded over the 3 in the 2007 certificate.
When I send signed email the old certificate is getting sent instead of the new. If I look at my email entries in ADDRESS BOOK, the old certificate shows except the new email address that is unique to the 2008 certificate.
I exported the 2007 certificate, deleted the 2007 certificate and closed and opened KeyChain Utility and now the 2008, which is the expected certificate shows for all email addresses. Problem is that I can't read any old email that was encrypted with the 2007 certificate unless I import the old certificate.
Anyone know how to have both certificates on your key chain and have OS X default to the latest certificate for sending email, but use the correct certificate for reading all email when mail has been encrypted with one of several certificates over time?
Importing and exporting, deleting certificates as you update certificate is a real pain.

I'm having a similar problem. Also have thawte certificates. I renewed the one about to expire which seems to have worked. I deleted the old one; wrong move, as I now could not read the email that used the old one. I fetched the old certificate, which appears in Certificates, but the email still seems to not be decryptable. There seems to be no way to get it into the My Certificates place. I have used these for several years with no problems until now.
If anybody has a clue on how to read the old email, I would love to hear it.

  • How to import a password protected p12 certificate to keystore?

    Hi all,
I am new in java security programming.
And I got something very urgent need your help..
How to import a password protected p12 certificate to keystore programmatically?
Does anyone have sample codes on this issue?
    thanks very much

    Hi omslion,
I responded to a similar post from you (and moved it to the Acrobat forums). Password protecting a file requires Adobe Acrobat. You are welcome to download a free 30-day trial of Acrobat. For more information, see www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Can't get Mail to recognize Thawte certificate for signing and encrypting

I got a certificate from Thawte and double clicked on the p12 file. This installed the certificate in the login section of the Keychain. I read in several places that it must be in the X509Anchors chain in order to work. However, whenever I try to import it or copy it there I can't get past the authentication screen. I give it the password to decrypt the p12 file and that works, but then it asks for a password for the X509Anchors keychain. I'm giving it my login password, but that doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn't have to do anything with the X509Anchors keychain. The X509Anchors keychain contains certificate authority (CA) certificates, i.e., certificates associated with CA's that sign certificates. In it you'll find various CA certificates for thawte among others.
After you've successfully imported your thawte cert into your login chain, restart mail (I don't think you need to restart keychain access, but it wouldn't hurt).
Now when you compose a message, you should see encrypt and sign buttons to the right and below the subject line. This of course assumes the email address configured in mail is the same as the one in the thawte certificate.

  • Mail and Thawte certificates

I've been trying to use a thawte email certificate with Mail and Mail does not recognize it.
Actually, I think part of the problem is that keychain access puts the certificate in "Certificates" and won't let me put it in "My Certificates" - can anyone explain why this is happening?
I've gotten this to work with public/private key pairs in the past, and there are posts all over this discussion board from people with the same problem - has anyone figured this out?

    Hi Michael-
I was having the exact same prob. Turns out that Safari or the Keychain Util. didn't actually install everything it was supposed to. I found some good directions on R'Reilly's MacDevCenter site which fixed everything: http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2003/01/20/mail.html.
I had originally gotten a Thawte Personal Freemail certificate using Firefox. So, following their directions, I went to Firefox prefs./security and backed up the Thawte cert. to a file on my desktop. Next, they said to open the Apple keychain util. and CREATE A NEW KEYCHAIN. Not a new certificate, but a new keychain. Call it whatever. Then, double-click on on the backed-up certificate file and install to your new keychain. Voila. You should see three certificates and one private key (when I initially downloaded the certificate using Safari it only installed two certificates, and in the "login" keychain--which I'll now zap).
    Good luck!

Curently I'm clueless on what has happened. This is the third time I tried to
    follow the instruction. Please help.

    Hello Patrick,
    Thanks for the information:
you created a keypair for SSL in the Key Store service interface in the Visual Administrator, generated a CSR response and sent it to Verisign. Now you have the CSR response from Verisign - is my understanding of the situation correct?
    Absolutely right
You can import this into the Key Store service, by highlighting the private key of the keypair and choosing 'Import CSR Response'. Now your key pair is signed.
    Successfully done.
After this i can see that PRIVATE KEY (IssueDN has been changed to Verisign)
But CERTIFICATE ISSUER DN is not changed.
Now if i try to access the site with https, able to do properly and if click on the Lock icon on the browser, i can see certificate is 3 Chained
Verisign Trial Secure Server Root CA - G2
----> Verisign Trial Secure Server CA - G2
----> -> Training.pearson.com (this is my Common Name)
So it looks to be working fine.
However there is no chain formed. You need to now follow the aforementioned note and export the private key and public key certificate separately by higlighting the private key and choosing 'Export'. Export with the 'Files of type' drop down box set to (*p8), and after exporting the private key you will be able to export the public key cert. This is step 6 and 7 of the note. Now follow steps 8-12 to form the chain
No Chains has been made in Visual Admin, and i tried these on another server - it works as you are saying.
But is there any benefit of importing Intermediate, Root Certificates - as mentioned in SAP note steps 8 to 12.
If yes, then is it mandatory to make the chain till 3rd level (means Root Certificate also).
Once the chain is loaded into the Key Store, you need to ensure that the Java dispatcher is configured to send the signed server certificate for the relevant SSL ports - see here http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/5c/15f73dd0408e5be10000000a114084/content.htm

  • How to get your contacts to your new phone

These days, most of us live ane die by our mobile phones - our personal and business lives revolve around them; and yet technology moves so fast that our phones become outdated and are replaced so quickly. Luckily, the days when buying a new phone means that you have to laboriously re-enter all of your precious contact numbers are long gone.
There are a number of different ways that you can transfer contacts between your old and your new phone, including:
    1. SIM CARD
The original and simplest way to port your contacts is via the SIM card. This system sells itself on the ease of use and the fact that it guarantees universal compatibility, but this simplicity also brings with it the inflexibility - the SIM card can hold just one name and one number per contact, and a typical limit the number of contacts it 250, so it is rapidly ending its tenure as a medium for the storage and transfer of contact information.
    Advantages: Ultimate cross-device compatibility
    Disadvantages: Limited capacity
    2. BUSINESS CARDS VIA BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth connectivity allows data to be relayed between two phones within a range of about ten metres. All Bluetooth-enabled phones can send and receive contacts as vCard files, which allows you to transfer a complete contact to another phone with ease. Using the "Mark/Unmark" feature of your Nokia device, you can also send a batch of contacts at once - the phone still makes a separate transfer per contact, but provided the two devices are paired and set to automatically accept transmissions from each other, you can set things in motion and put the kettle on whilst the phones do most of the hard work - it's as easy as Options>Send business card>Via Bluetooth. The down side is that the vCards go into the Received Files folder of an S40 phone or the Messaging inbox of a Symbian smartphone, you will need to individually save each contact transferred to your address book, so it still isn't an ideal solution for large numbers of contacts.
Advantages: Quick and easy, wide compatibility, all contact information can be transferred
Disadvantages: Still laborious in the case of large numbers of contacts, bulk sending may not work correctly from a different brand of phone.
    3. DEVICE-TO-DEVICE SYNC
Many Nokia phones have a Synchronisation or Switch feature which allows you to transfer personal data such as contacts between compatible devices. This is an effective method to transfer data, but unfortunately different versions used in different phones (depending on age and OS) mean that even two different Nokia devices might not be compatible for this method.
Advantages: Easy to use and almost entirely automatic
Disadvantages: Not a reliable cross-platform method
    4. SERVER SYNCHRONISATION
A growing feature of the mobile internet is the ability to transfer your phone's personal data with a remote server, which is not necessarily the ideal way to transfer between devices but gives the added functionality that you can recover your data wherever you are in the world as long as you have internet access through your phone, so if you lose your data (or even your entire phone) on a business trip abroad, you don't have to wait to get home to recover it. An example of a server synchronisation service can be found at www.ovi.com
Avantages: Remote storage of data means you can use anywhere
Disadvantages: System still in its infancy for personal consumers
    5. PC SYNCHRONISATION
Using Nokia PC Suite, N-Series PC Sutie or Ovi Suite you can synchronise your PIM (Personal Information Management) data with your PC (Outlook, Outlook Express, Vista Contacts, Lotus Notes etc.), allowing it to be subsequently transferred to another Nokia device. For Mac users, there is Apple's iSync software which does the same thing, though whilst it makes transfer between different brands of phone possible it does not guarantee compatibility with all phones from any manufacturer.
Advantages: Any PC-connectivity-enabled Nokia phone is compatibile (PC only), cross-brand support (Mac only)
Disadvantages: Synchronisation software not always reliable
    6. CONTENT COPIER
Using Nokia Content Copier from any of the three PC Suites mentioned above, you can copy all or a selection of personal data from your phone into a backup file that can be restored to your phone after a repair or update, or transferred to another compatible phone. This gives ultimate protection as almost all of your phone contents can be saved, but the big downside is that this method is no use to you if you are coming to Nokia from another brand. Wise users back up their phones with Content Copier regularly to ensure that nothing is lost if the phone is lost, stolen or broken. Me, I remember to do it now and again
Advantages: All data can be backed up, and most data can be restored to most Nokia phones
Disadvantages: All of the big manufacturers have their own version, but they are not inter-compatible

        Labguy,
Backing up contacts is really important when you're getting a new phone. We want that info to transfer easily. Please use our Contact Transfer Wizard to back up your contacts. You can find the wizard right here -> http://vz.to/19lHYxL

  • I restored from iTunes backup but it goes back to 'welcome to your new iphone'

My iphone 5 was replaced today because of a faulty power button. I had done an iTunes backup this morning, choosing to backup iTunes purchases and the apps as well.
In order to restore the backup to my new phone I had to set it up as a new phone and update to 7.1.2. All good so far.
I then chose to restore from backup (dated today) and it all seemed fine until the restore was complete and the iphone restarted and I was taken back to the 'Welcome to Your New iPhone' screen. Thankfully my photos and contacts have come across but none of my iTunes library, emails or most of my apps. What I'd really like to retrieve are the notes I had in Notemaster...lots of important details about trip bookings, finances etc.
I suspect an incomplete/corrupt backup was made this morning as I think I'd used about 47gb on my phone and the backup file in my application support folder is 11.8gb (although I don't imagine that folder would include all the video & music from my iTunes library??). I thought I could go back to the backup I made in June but it looks like it was overwritten by the new backup I made today...is that right?
Can anyone please suggest a fix or am I going to have to set it up as a new phone in order to get past the 'welcome to your new iphone' screen. First I'd somehow have to back up all my photos and contacts or I'll probably lose them.
Actually, I've just downloaded iBackupBot and I can see all my notes in the backup I made this morning so they do still exist even though the app didn't download in the restore, in fact it looks like a lot of my user app files are there. What do I do now? My head hurts h e l p . . . p l e a s e

I don't think that you need to restore from the backup again. If you see nothing at all in the App Store. Try closing the app completely, reset your iPad and them try again.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I have Photoshop Elements 9 on an iMac with OS 10.6.8. I bought a new printer/scanner and the program will not import the new scanner to replace the old one. How do I do this?

Thank you for your suggestions. I downloaded a more recent version of Twain, but this didn't help. I also tried closing and opening Photo Shop and restarting my computer without success. Reinstalling Photo Shop sounds like a very promising solution, but I'm  not sure I will do it. In the meantime I can scan items using a printer program. These scans open in Photo Shop. It is an extra step.

  • If 1.1 froze your new iMac, dont' give up yet - try this first

+If your aluminum iMac gave you problems before the Firmware Update v1.1, this is not the thread for you.+
But if your new iMac was fine out of the box, and fine after Update 1.0, _but became problematic after 1.1_, read on.
This was my case - all was well up until a few days after the 1.1 update. Then the following happened sporadically, leading to several power-button shutdowns.
    · endless blue screen on startup after the gray apple but before the login window
    · funny display artifacts - incorrect pixels, section waviness, discolored blocks
    · display freeze out of nowhere - everything but the mouse cursor "stuck" forever
Some say to return or replace the whole iMac at the Apple Store. Others say to Archive (or Erase) & Install OS X from the original DVDs. Before doing any of that, and assuming you've completed the obvious (deleting suspect .PLIST files, reversed any recent hardware or non-Apple software changes, etc.), try the following first. You have nothing to lose except a little bit of time.
Step "Zero" is to reboot the computer into Safe Mode and backup your important data.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392
Step 1 is to rollback your iMac's firmware to 1.0, while still in Safe Mode, as follows.
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070924095738296
(find the list numbered 1-6 under "Solution")
Step 2 is to make sure Step 1 takes effect:
    · (still in Safe Mode) Delete the 1.1 Receipt from Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/
    · Shutdown and reset the SMC: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
    · Power-on and reset PRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    · Reboot from the Tiger install DVDs, run Disk Utility, and perform Repair Disk (likely needed after power-button shutdowns)
    · Quit the Installer, Restart (a normal one), login and Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility
    · Manually run all CRON jobs - "sudo periodic _" {daily, weekly, monthly} in Terminal
    · Shutdown, reconnect anything still disconnected, and power-on as normal
Step 3 is to use your iMac like you used to and check to see if any problems return.
Step 4 is to use your hopefully now-stable iMac to inform Apple and its boss about this unacceptable situation:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
    [email protected]
My iMac has been good as new for 48 hours now. In that time, I have rolled over the Dock rapidly and repeatedly, played 1080p trailers in QuickTime, and extensively used iPhoto and iTunes. (Before the rollback, as little as a magnified Dock icon would cause a freeze, anywhere from 5-30 minutes after logging in, assuming I even made it to the login screen.)
If the above still doesn't work, then you should Archive & Install OS X, and reapply all updates except 1.1. If the problems continue, Erase & Install OS X + the same drill on updates. +If there's still no luck, then+ I'm afraid you're out of luck and need to exchange your iMac.
But I'm willing to bet it won't come to that.

Just an update to report that I ran through this whole thing and my symptoms persist, even when in safe mode. I am pretty sure my problem is hardware, it isn't the same lock up problem everyone is having, that was my first iMac, I am having the weird blue vertical line problem that is posted in the Macbook pro forum (but on my iMac).
Wow, that's something totally different from the 1.1-freeze issue. I've not heard about that on the iMacs until now.

  • IPhoto 7.1.5 - Disappearing Photos After Import of New Photos

This is a revisit of an earlier problem that has been addressed in several discussions. The problem is reproducible.
Background: Running 10.6.7 and iPhoto 7.1.5
I have a 14 GB Photo Library with > 10 thousand photographs. After importing another 100 photos, iPhoto AGAIN showed ONLY the latest event photos. Closing iPhoto and reopening iPhoto shows all of the events for ~1 sec and then "poof" the photo library says that there are 0 photos. I have followed the instructions in numerous discussions including my earlier post. Nothing works permanently.
SUMMARY: Repeated rebuilds of the photo library with iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM) bring the events/photos back until the next photo import. Then I am back where I started.
    I have done the following:
    1. Booted on the startup CD and checked and repaired all disk permissions (many) and other disk errors (none).
    2. Made a backup of the photo library.
    3. Rebuild photo library in iPhoto.  No joy. This NEVER helps anything.
    4. Deleted pLists and opened iPhoto. No help.
    5. Ran BatChmod to check on all of the permissions to RW. No permission problems are seen now.
    6. Ran iPhoto Library Manager and confirmed permissions set there are OK. It is important to make sure that the permissions are  set correctly to RW in iPLM.
    7. Ran iPLM and I can access ALL of the events and photos. (This is where the last discussion ended.)
    8. Imported more photos from my iPhone and  “poof” no more photos seen in iPhoto. I Go back to step 7 and wait 1.5 hours for a rebuild in iPLM.
Any further suggestions would be helpful. This is occurring after EVERY import of new photos. As long as I do not import more photos I can access all events and photos.

    Tony:
It could be that the card has been compromised and iPhoto doesn't recognize it. Open Image Capture and see if you can upload the photos to a folder on the desktop. If that can be done reformat the card with the camera, take a couple of test shots and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.

    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
