Impossible to upload changes to website

Hi all,
I made my site with iWeb '09. It's on the net but now i can not make any changes.In iWeb itself it works fine, I upload the changes i've made, visit my site and... There we are, just the same as it was.
I know i filled in the "sitename" on the info page of the site (where the publication/privacy and facebook info is) after i uploaded the site for the first time.
Since then it's trouble.
Who can help me please?

I notice that you do not use the Site name. iWeb doesn't know that, so if you click the Visit my page button iWeb assumes the URL is :
http://www.elevensenses.nl/Sitename/Welkom.html
The consequence is that the feeds do not work :

You can use the Dreamweaver FTP (or a different FTP client) to completely copy the original website to your development computer, then, before making changes, you can copy the whole thing to a directory called something like "website original"
If you want to run both the old and new sites on the remote server, this is often possible. Add a folder/directory to the server and call it something like "new" and upload the new files there until you are ready to replace the old site
All of this you can do with FTP

I can only upload changes bit by bit

1/ background -
    I have my computer fixed recently. The windows has been re-installed
    and I have finished re-installing all softwares
2/ I have a (bad ?) habit uploading the whole web to the remote server periodically
    choosing '' delete remote files not on local drive ''
    The synchronize box finally showed all files for '' PUT '' action
    I then pressed OK. The action was completed after a long time (many files)
==> but the changes did not appear on my web
3/ My findings :
* at the left hand side (Remote server), it shows all my folders plus
    2 folders '' public_html '' & '' www '' .
    Each of them contains the same contents : all my folders
* in order to upload changes successfully, Now ,I must drag the copy of the file from my local server
    to the public_html folder and replace the correspondent file
QUESTION 1 - what is the problem ?
                    2 - in above point 2, , where did those changes go ?

What Nancy said. Your website files must be uploaded to the public_html folder on the server for the world to see them. You should not see the public_html folder in your Remote Server view in DW - just the files and folders inside it.
This should have been explained in the welcome email sent to you by your web hosting company.
Where the screenshot in Nancy's post shows Root Directory: htdocs/, your must be Root Directory: public_html.

Can I change my website while using Mavericks?

Created website with iWeb 3.0.4. Website hosted by Go Daddy. Current OS is Mavericks. Can I upload/publish changes from computer using Mavericks? Am afraid I might wipe out published site if I try to upload changes.

Whether you publish the entire site or just the changes you won't wipe out your website. The publish entire site will just replied all files on the server with new ones. The publish changes will just upload those new or modified files.
Sometimes if you have problems upload newly added files a "publish entire site" is necessary.

They said 'I've been trying to upload the video to our website but our IT contact has told me that it is too big. Could you send the file in MP4 format compressed for web?'

Hi,
Go to Compressor inspector window>Encoder tab>Click Video: Settings button>In the window that comes up go to Data Rate and change the default 220 Kbits/sec to 150.
The resulting file (if DV, under a minute) will definiteltly be under 2MB and quality good enough. Remember that quality always depends on the source, the greater your original footage looks the better the compression result.

I created a new mac trial email so I can upload the old website to that email. But I coulodn't. I tried Puplish to Mac but the button is off" highlited "can not be chosen",,

I to have the same problem, I have 2 .mac accounts and want to publish to my other account but with no joy.
When you said the account is determined by system preferences/.mac can you change these setting and which system preferences are we talking about ?
I looked in macintosh system preferences under .mac and could not see anything to change.
Should I be looking else where as I couldn't find anything in my mac account to change either.

When I am NOT private browsing Firefox will not allow me to delete or change the website address in the location bar. My only remedy is to open a new window and search in google then click the link to that site through google. How can I resolve this?

When I swap to private browsing firefox allows me to anter the website address directly into the location bar - but this is a slow [prcess to swap back and forth - also by dint of using private browsing I loose my website information.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Password protecting a swf that i want to upload to my website

Hi all. I would appreciate it seeing a tutorial showing how to password protect a swf uploaded to my website.
I have a swf that is a work in progress, is NOT ready for public viewing, and i need some critique from a friend in the USA, and if i could upload it and give her the password, it would be viewable only for her, or for whoever else i'd give the password.
So, i've looked at a thread from a while back, http://forums.adobe.com/message/718264#718264, which explains stuff that is beyond me, on xml programming.
And, i am aware that the Publish settings has an option to add a password, I tried it but am unsure what that does if anything.

If you zip your files into a folder, any email service should allow them to pass. If the swf does not rely on external data files or dynamically loaded files, then sending the swf alone would suffice since it can be played without the need for the html page.
As for the robotics end of things, if you add the following lines into the head section of the html page, the creepy things should avoid your pages...
<meta name='robots' content='noindex,nofollow' />
<meta name="robots" content="noarchive">
I don't know if newer tags have been invented for these purposes over the last couple of years, but if so, a search of Google should reveal any.

Images not uploading correctly onto website!! Ahhhhh!

I built my website in GoLive, everything looks fine going through the preview with no errors. When I linked to and uploaded to my website it moved images and completely dropped others. What do I do?

Not all of my photos upload to my website when I publish it. when my site finishes publising I get an error that says, "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."

I am publishing directly to an FTP server (option 1). Is this the optimal method or should I be publishing to a folder and then (how do/would I?) publish to my hosting domain?
I'm wondering if this has really anything to do with the publishing process, or whether it just has to do with the photos and/or the photo albums. I've deleted the photo albums with the missing pictures from my site on iweb thinking a file might be corrupt. (I'm getting the albums from iphoto -- drag/drop method into iweb) I then replaced these albums with the same albums as the previous ones from iphoto and then published my site again -- and the EXACT same photos were once again missing in the NEW albums as were missing in the old albums...
Maybe it is a publishing issue, or it could be a photo/file issue. However, these albums aren't very large -- the largest containing 135 photos --
Please! if you have any suggestions or ideas as to what is happening I would be greatly appreciative!

Images and graphics in PDF turn black upon upload onto a website

Hi there!
I have a problem with a pdf file that I have uploaded onto a website in the process of creating a self published book. It appears fine when I view it as a pdf prior to upload but, once I upload it, some of the images are replaced by black boxes. This seems to be the case no matter what browser is used. Any ideas of the cause or how this can be fixed? the pdf is a compilation of a number of student pdf's that I combined into one so, I don't have the original files used to create the pdf (in design, etc).

Here is an example PDF, I had to take a screen shot so I could clear out the customer data. This is before we upload it to the investors website. Keep in mind this is a single page out of hundreds that look fine.

Uploading changed pages AND images

this is probably possible, but cannot find a shortcut or
extension to do it. When I changed a web page, it frequently
involves changed an image or image property. The CNTRL/SHIFT U
saves and uploads the page, but does not include changed images?
The synchronise utility takes far too long on a large site to
upload changed files.
I am wondering if there is a shortcut, or way of adapting the
upload function to include ALL changed files on a webpage.
One long winded work around is to change the file display to
'modified' but images are in a separate directory to html files, so
that involves hunting through directories to uploaded modified
files.
Is there a way of displaying modified files, or a way of
modifiying code to that the put command includes images?

If your page is that graphically heavy, then you would have
other problems.
But, the good news is that if the timestamp on the local and
the remote
files are the same, then they are not uploaded. So, you are
not uploading
all of the images - only those that have been changed.

You can do that already, but not with quite that granularity.
From the
expanded site panel, use EDIT | Select Recently Modified
Files.
Unfortunately, your options are only by days.

Best format for upload to a website

i would like to know what is the best format for upload to a website, what i got now is an exported quicktime self contained movie from fcp 25 minutes in length.
the footage itself is shot on mini dv and edited on an uncompressed 8 bit sequence, when exported to quicktime it is 28 gb in size so it is kind of a heavy one.
is it possible to upload it in one piece ( apple recommends exporting to mpeg4 yet i got a bad quality out of this using mpeg streamclip.
what would be the best compreessor for this

Check the links that Cristina posted, then let us know if your quality improved, using Compressor...it should.
One question for you regarding quality...are you referring to overall quality of the full frame image, or are you displeased with text/graphics.
If this is the case, then I'd wonder if you edited in a DV sequence, then dropped the edited content into an 8bit timeline for exporting at better quality.
This can cause degradation of the image (particularly text/graphics), since you're taking a 720x480 frame and ever-so-slightly vertically scaling the frame up to 720x486.
Let us know what you did...and your results w/Compressor.

How do I monitor download/upload volumes by website

I'm using NetLimiter to see which applications are using the net and how much each is downloading and uploading. From that I can see that Firefox, my main browser, is the biggest contributor. Is there a way of analysing FF download/upload volumes by website?
