In-database mining vs database efficiency - Trade-off?
Can anyone please throw some light on how Predictive Analytics (Automated Analytics/KXEN) deals with database load/resource sharing when both analytical and operational workloads are executed? In other words - does in-database scoring impacts database efficiency? If yes, how do we deal with this? This question came up during in-database feature discussion with a Partner.
Dear Ankit,
In Data Base Apply (IDBA) will generate a SQL Script that will be executed directly in the database. That is to say it may have an impact on the database efficiency as you will run this script.
You can deal with that by using IDBA scoring when the database is not also used by the users (nights, week ends, etc...).
Another option is to use Model Manager (formerly known as Factory) in order to schedule IDBA scripts at a date/timeframe you know that you database is not used or not in conflict with that execution. For example, you use Model Manager to schedule scoring action every night, then the users have fresh scorings every morning.
Hope it answers your question, best regards,
Gaëtan Saulnier.

Performance and security trade-off
h1. Scenario
When I run my code without implementing security its performance decreases from 40% to 70% .
My goals is to decide: do I really need any trade-off (speed vs security)? in either case I must provide arguments
Any kind of advice will be appreciated. I just need professional's view about the above scenario
Thank youHey Aasem,
As such, there is no thumb-rule for this trade off concept. It all depends on the type of database and its security. It may happen that you have to secure the data more than the performance; e.g. banking, insurance, stock market secotrs. In these sectors, the on-line transactions are required, but the data security is more important than the performance. So, here you may have to cmpromise with the performance.
But if you take an example of an live score of a cricket match, then the data security is not that much important rather the performance counts more. so, here you can compromise the security of the data with the database performance.
But, my point is that as a dba, you have to always consider the security of the data more than the performance. And the calculation what you are talking of is not of a fixed manner. It varies as per the requirement and need. And there is no thumb rule for this. It is only your experience which will help you to find out the measurement of everything what you are asking for.
Thanks and Regards,

Can the instance name of prod. database and standby database may be same
Hi all,
Actually I knew that while configuring Physical Standby
1> Database name should be same
2> Instance name should be different
But,today I saw a DR system where the database name and instance names are the same. So I came to know that it can be done.
I just wanted to know that what are the trade-offs of putting DB name and instance name same?There isn't a tradeoff. By default, the instance_name is the same as the db_name unless if specified differently in teh pfile. What matters is the service name connecting to the instance.

Script has to be run from auxiliary.
Great details, but what I don't see is how you connect in RMAN.
Example
Start RMAN
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@recover2 auxiliary=sys/@reclone
Recovery Manager: Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 22 14:50:31 2012

connected to target database: RECOVER2 (DBID=3806912436)
connected to auxiliary database: RECLONE (not mounted)Nothing in your tnsnames or listener jumps out as wrong. I copied them into my text editor and compared against my working ones.
Generally for active duplication I start the future standby on a pfile NOMOUNT.
Auxiliary Instance Initialization Parameters Needed :
DB_NAME
CONTROL_FILES
DB_BLOCK_SIZE
( add extra parameters like DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT and LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT instead of using the SET command - clean up standby spfile right after duplication )
Then start RMAN and finally run a single line duplication command.
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=sys/@primary auxiliary=sys/@standby

Peoplesoft convert Oracle non-unicode database to unicode database
I am following doc 1437384.1 to convert a Peoplesoft database from non-unicode database to unicode database
I use the following export statement (as user PS)
SET NO TRACE;
SET OUTPUT output_file.dat;
SET NO DATA;
EXPORT *;
And the following import statement (as user sysadm)
SET NO TRACE;
SET NO DATA;
SET INPUT output_file;
SET LOG log_file;
SET UNICODE ON;
SET STATISTICS OFF;
SET ENABLED_DATATYPE 9.0;
IMPORT *;
Before I do the datapump import, I am comparing the objects
SQL> select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner = 'SYSADM' group by object_type order by 1 asc;
OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(*)
INDEX 33797
LOB 2775
TABLE 28829
TRIGGER 9
VIEW 21208
on oracsc63 (targetdb):
SQL> select object_type, count(*) from dba_objects where owner = 'SYSADM' group by object_type order by 1 asc;
OBJECT_TYPE COUNT(*)
INDEX 23748
LOB 2170
TABLE 19727
I don't have the same number of object. When I do the import this means that around 10000 tables will not have the UTF-8 format.
Any ideas how I can solve this? How has experience with this peoplesoft conversions?Hello Jacques,
please check sapnote #808505 (Secondary connection to Oracle DB w/ different character set).

Hello,
I have a problem with SCVMM 2012 R2, it always gives error when tries to "Run the dynamic optimizer" process. The process starts automatically every 30mins. When I analyzed report.txt file I found error message:Exception Message=Unable
to connect to the VMM database because the database is in an inconsistent state.Contact an experienced SQL administrator whenever this error occurs. In some cases, it may be necessary to restore the VMM database. If the problem persists, contact
Microsoft Help and Support.
NOTE: If I start the process manually, it completes without any errors.
Any help would be appreciatedI'm led to believe this is a bug in UR5 and I think it was a bug in VMM 2012 SP1 RTM.
Our TAM says this will be fixed in UR6. We had to turn off Dynamic optimizer or we could have rolled back to UR4 but there were other bugs in UR4 which hurt us more. -

I am using Oracle 9207 and when i use dbastudio, click on storage, tablespaces, then the tablespace name, then datafiles, the system hangs. I tried to view the datafiles via SQLPLUS in the view dba_data_files, and it also hangs, does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? There are no messages in the alert.log. Registering primary database to catalog database.
Hi all,
Here we have a dataguard environment with db1(db_unique_name) as primary and db2(db_unique_name) as physical standby database. Also we configured one schema on a third machine as catalog database using following steps.
The steps executed in catalog database(appsdb):
SQL> create tablespace rmancatlog_tbs datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/NEW/rman_catalog.dbf' size 500M autoextend off extent management local segment space management auto;
SQL> create user rman identified by oracle
2 default tablespace rmancatlog_tbs
3 quota unlimited on rmancatlog_tbs
4 ;
SQL> GRANT connect, resource, recovery_catalog_owner TO rman;
RMAN> create catalog;
recovery catalog created
Added tns entries of catalog database in primary and standby. Then from primary database we tried to register to catalog database. It is showing that it is registering. But every query afterwards in rman is throwing the error. Below are the steps and error:
[oracle@db1 ~]$ rman target sys/oracle catalog rman/oracle@appsdb

From database 8i to database 10g
I have installed oracle10,but t did not know how to import datafile in database 8i to database 10g
Are you attempting to Upgrade an 8i database to 10g? If so the Upgrade Guide would be the place to start.
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/toc.htm
If you have an 8i export that you would like to import into a 10g database you can use Import.

Firm or Trade-Off Zone Indicator not set
Hi
I have created the scheduling agreement and run the MRP by this the schedule lines are generated but the system has not set Firm or Trade-Off Zone Indicator how do I go head? IS there any customization/master data required to set the this indicator?
Please suggest.
Regards,
Prashant.This depends a bit on how you communicate to your vendors.
Assuming EDI, then the message to the vendor will contain a few date fields
A. ABFDE End of production go-ahead
Which is the 'end' of the FIRM ZONE
B. ABMDE End of material go-ahead
Which is the 'end' of the TRADEOFF ZONE.
Upon receipt the vendors system will recognize these dates.
Assuming printout, you need to work in SAP-Script/Smartform to detail the effect of these date on your print.
Either by also mentioning these in the item header (remember each item has an unique FZ/ToZ setting). Or by using special markers on the date lines, based on these dates.

Firm Zone and Trade off Zone in Scheduling Agreement
Dear All
Please explain in detailed the concept of Firm Zone and Trade off Zone in Scheduling Agreement, and it's effects in MRP run, i.e. If i take a MRP run for a material whci is having firm zone as 30 days and trade off zone as 60 days then what will be the result of MRP. The Material MRP type is VB
Thanks and Regards
ManojHi,
Firm zone is the time frame in which you cannot change your orders (schedule lines) that you have ordered from a vendor in any way (Date change nor quantity change).
Trade off zone is time frame within which you can make changes to your procurement proposals, these changes are acceptable from vendor's side.
These time frames are agreed with the Vendor and then inserted for each scheduling agreement in 'Additional data'.
For your example if you take firm zone 30 days and trade-off zone 60 days, the check starts from current day on which MRP runs. For exampe current day is 1st Oct, all the procurement proposals with delivery date within 30 days that is till 1st September are firm orders, which MRP will not change in any case (You can find such orders with * in front of them in MD04 list). Beyond 1st september they are in trade off zone, in which MRP can modify them.
MRP types (VB in your case) have no correlation with these zones.

How to Add Sales order from one database to another database
Hi All,
I am trying to add sales order with sales order object.
I have completed connectivity from one database to another database.
but i am unable to post sales order with orders object.
My code is
ObjSales = objMain.objUtilities.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
ObjSales.DocDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
ObjSales.DocDueDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
ObjSales.TaxDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
ObjSales.CardCode = "C0006"
ObjSales.Series = 92
ObjSales.PaymentGroupCode = 3
ObjSales.Comments = "vivek"
ObjSales.Lines.Add()
ObjSales.Lines.SetCurrentLine(1)
ObjSales.Lines.ItemCode = "5127"
ObjSales.Lines.Quantity = 100
ObjSales.Lines.UnitPrice = 10
ObjSales.Lines.WarehouseCode = "01"
ObjSales.Lines.TaxCode = "0"
ObjSales.Lines.DiscountPercent = "0.00"
ObjSales.DocTotal = 1000
If ObjSales.Add <> 0 Then
objMain.objApplication.SetStatusBarMessage("Sales or Not Posted", SAPbouiCOM.BoMessageTime.bmt_Short, True)
Exit Sub
else
objMain.objUtilities.ShowSuccessMessage("Sales Order Posted successfully")
End If
The above code is executing successfully.But the Sales order is not getting added.
Thanks in advance.Hi Vivek,
If the code you posted is not throwing any errors, then the order really does get created. Apparently just not to both databases, am I correct ?

That means that apparently you have not gotten this bit right.
Generally speaking if you want to create an order into two databases, you first need to connect to both databases and create separate order objects for each database. So you need to do this bit twice; once for each database. Something like this:
ObjSales1 = objMain.objUtilities1.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
ObjSales2 = objMain.objUtilities2.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
Then at the end you also need to add both objects separately:
If ObjSales1.Add <> 0 Then
etc.
If ObjSales2.Add <> 0 Then
etc
Good luck,
Johan
