In house Management Plugin for Audit Vault Collector Status

I've developed a plug in to collect the status of the many Audit Vault Collectors we have.
For the moment I just want the collector as a new target with just a response/status metric.
I have created a ttd and dc xml file together with a .ksh script.
I tested the XML using ilint and created a jar file using emctl. I successfully imported and deployed the plug in to the necessary agent and then created one of the new targets.
The status appeared as up in the console but I then shutdown the collector but the status remains as up.
I have tested the .ksh script from the command line and it correctly outputs em_status=Up or Down as required but the Down status is not getting to the console.
I have the collection as 5 minutes.
Does anyone have any pointers as to what I need to look at please?

You can enable the Agent metric browser as described in section 2.2.1.2 of the EM Extensibility Guide (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b40007.pdf) and see what the gets back for each of your metrics.
Also, from the Extensibility Guide:
"For target availability to show up correctly on the default target home page, Oracle requires the target metadata file to define a metric with NAME="Response" that contains a column with NAME="Status" and the default collection file must define a critical condition on the "Status" column that represents the target being up or down."
Presumably, since your target shows as up initially, you have already defined a critical condition on the "Status" column of your "Response" metric. You may want to follow up with the EM extensibility product manager [email protected] to get some help from the Agent team on this issue.

Issue with Audit Vault Collector for Peoplesoft-MS Sql Server

Requesting your valuable inputs regarding below issue :

- Peoplesoft with SQL Server 2008
- Oracle Audit Vault.
Current issue with Audit Vault collector for SQL server is that it is not giving PSFT login ID instead it is giving Peoplesoft DB service Account ID.
Is this expected ?. If yes, what is the workaround ? Can Database Firewall is a best option to capture PSFT login ID ?

just do one think here ..
During data source creation , in the Additional tab area , in the SQL Engine session , select "Vendor SQL" instead of "Open SQL".
HOw could u create data source without selecting the driver corrsponding to MS SQL.?
it is recommended to download the latest Driver and use this for Driver creation.

Hey, does anyone have recommendations for an ad-placement and tracking system that isn't complete overkill? I have a client that puts out one (HUGE!) publication a year, a 600+ page directory with dozens of ads in it. This is the 26th year of publication, and they have never tried to use any publishing system to spec, sell and place the ads, nor have they ever got to the point of creating a standard advertising sales sheet.
Things like DPS AdTracker are in the four figures, but this requirement doesn't justify that kind of overhead. Does anyone have suggestions of tools that might fit the requirement?

If you can go the extra bucks for the RenMaxx bundle, you'll get the IR-L, Rverb, and Tune LT as well. I'm a Platinum owner and I've been using the Rvox a lot lately.
I think the IR-L comes with better IRs than Space Designer.

Audit Vault and DB Firewall Design

I have and application (JAVA Based) connected to the database 11g using JDBC,
I am going to implement Audit Vault and DB firewall R12 for three reasons:
1. monitoring the traffic
2. blocking un wanted SQL statements.
3. blocking un wanted IPs/Users
Our two Physcial servers that will be used for Audit Vault and DB Firewalls contain two NIC each.
My Questions:
1. How to put these two servers in our network to be able to mointor as well block traffic, we don't need to change anything to our exisiting network configuration.
2. How to DB Firewall will block unwanted incomming traffic from the JAVA application to our database.
please any usefull documents, links, ideas, network design

1. if you plan to block sql using the firewall you will need 3 NICs in the firewall appliance since apart from the management interface you will need to setup a bridge (with 2 NICs) to physically route the traffic through the firewall, this also requires you to patch the appliance properly inside your datacenter between the protected database and the client or middle tier servers, so you can't do this w/o changing anything in your nw configuration.
2. you will need to compile a whitelist based on what your trusted applications are doing normally, this is an iterative process, then the firewall will be able to block sql not in the whitelist (replace it with something like select 1 from dual), since the only physical network path from the java clients to the secured target db goes via the bridge
Comment: so if you have a chance: pull one NIC out of the AV server (it only needs 1) and plug it into the firewall appliance.

Since Database Vault is bundled in the Audit Vault installation software, can you tell me if that means the license fee payable for Database Vault is already included in the license fee I will pay for Audit Vault? Oracle Audit Vault 12.1.2 installation

Hi,
I am trying to install audit vault 12.1.2 using RHEL5 and virtualbox.
Installed virtualbox VirtualBox-4.3-4.3.16_95972_el5-1 on Linux 2.6.18-398.0.0.0.1.el5. In virtualbox, I have chosen OS type as Linux and version as Oracle 64-bit. When I try to boot the virtualbox with audit vault .iso image, the installation is not progressing and hang with the message "P11X4: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later".
Please advice whether the mentioned environment/method is supported for audit vault installation.

System monitoring plugin for Vmware ESX server..

i have a OEM grid control 10.2.0.5 with management plugin for Vmware ESX server (Management Plug-in: vmware_esx_server, Version 1.1.3.1.0) added.
I later added another server agent for management/monitoring of VMware ESX server.
the agent state is UP and under Monitored targets for the agent I am now trying to add the VMware ESX server
Once on the page, here I enter the details <Hostname / Usrname:Pwd / Protocol:HTTPS / Keystore> and click on Test Connection and recieve a Warning :
Failed to contact the target to be added. Following errors were received while testing the connection to the target. Update the properties accordingly, try Test Connection for testing the properties before saving.

If I go ahead and click OK it adds the Target(Vmware esx server) to the agent and displays message :

THE problem starts here.. the metrics collection doesnt happen for the target and I get Metric collection errors.
I have tried checking in diff versions of management plugins as well as tried adding the target to the Grid control's agent//

Is the location that you specified for the keystore file somewhere that the agent can read from (either a drive local to where the agent is installed or a network drive that the agent has access to)? Is the keystore file one that was generated for that specific ESX Server from its rui.crt file? Each ESX Server has a different rui.crt file that you use to create the keystore file.
You won't be able to collect metrics if the SSL connectivity isn't set up correctly.

Audit Vault adding RAC database for OSAUD collector.

I am configuring Audit Vault 10.2.3 for some AIX databases.
Can anyone tell me what exactly is the method for adding OSAUD collector on both nodes of a RAC database.
I have below configuration.
Database Name TEST
instance name on node 1 TEST1
instance name on node 2 TEST2
cluster name clusterbloc
agent name on node 1 agenttest1
agent name on node 2 agenttest2
I have run the below commands.
For first node,
avorcldb add_source -src clusterbloc:1521:TEST   -desc 'Test Database' -agentname agenttest1

OS collector should be configure for both node in RAC.
and avorcldb setup -srcname command is run on the Audit Vault Collection Agent with source database name.
so please run avorcldb setup -srcname TEST from both agent host.

Error while trying to start Audit Collector on the Audit Vault Server 10g

Hi,
We are trying to build a demo environment for testing Oracle Audit Vault 10g but we are having some trouble.
Our environment is like this: Oracle Audit Vault Server is installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2, while the Audit Vault Agent is installed on an Oracle 10g Release 2 database which resided on Windows server 2003 SP1. This two Windows Server machines are both installed as virtual machines.
We have successfully created the Agent and the Collector on Audit Vault Server and the Agent starts successfully while when we try to start the collector we get an error which says " Http Communication error: Http Communication error: 500" and the collector does not start.
We are new to the Audit Vault Software so we would really appreciate some help on how to resolve this issue because we have got stuck here and can not go on with our work.

Thanks again for all of your replies but now we are getting another error with the OSAUD collector. We are able to add the collector successfully by using the avorcldb all_collector command.
Source database is 10g R2 (10.2.1) and we configured it for collecting the audit records in the OS audit trail by using the following statement: ALTER SYSTEM SET AUDIT_TRAIL=OS SCOPE=SPFILE;, and the SHOW PARAMETER AUDIT command returns the following values :
NAME TYPE VALUE
audit_file_dest string C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ADMIN
\<db_name>\ADUMP
audit_sys_operations boolean TRUE
audit_trail string OS
We don't know if the values set for the audit_file_dest is correct but after we start working on the database and execute some statements Oracle is not creating any files on this destinations while for the same statements when the Audit_trail=DB, EXTENDED the audit values for these statements are written in the appropriate table.
So we do not know if this is the cause but when we try to start the OSAUD collector defined on the Audit Vault Server it can not start and gives us the follwing error: "could not start collector OSAUD_Collector for source <source name>, directory access error for C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ADMIN\<db_name>\ADUMP".
Sorry for the message being so long but we really need some help with this issue.
