In-process vrs standalone

Hi all,
I am in the process of configuring 9iAS Reports services for production deployment. i have read that one can have 2 types of report servers, in-process and standalone.
Which of them is more appropriate for deployment in a production environment?
furthermore i created a report server using the rwserver executable from the command line and had a message saying the service had been created successfully. When i go to control panel ---> services however, the service is stopped. When i start it up, it starts then stops for no reason.
any pointers?
thanks.
Stephen.

2) for your second question --
right click service - >properties -> log on
login as user who has admin privileges for that machine
See if starts that way
[ If it is starting properly and  stops after sometime - ie aftre some requests , then it measns it is crashing.
-)To find out cause of crash turn tracing on
tracing
a) Turn tracing ON
In ohome/reports/conf/servername.conf
uncomment trace element and restart server.
logs will be in
ohome/reports/logs/servername
Traces will give a clue

  • Difference between Enterprise Standalone and Enterprise on Weblogic Server

    Hi,
If I test my process on Standalone Enterprise Server and then test the same process on Enterprise Server on Weblogic (WLS), will there be any difference in my testing.. Will I receive different results or the results would be the same?

    Hi,
In Studio,in project preferences in General you have a check box that says something like Development for J2EE,that you should check if you are going to deploy to WLS or WAS. But there is no reason why something develop for StandAlone is not going to work in J2EE.

  • Avast 2015

Looks like avast! has just released avast! 2015 .   They are continuing to use the year for the "version" number (rather than calling it "avast 10" [although internally, it's 10.0.2206]).
I have NOT yet tested this product... we'll see when I get around to it.   Even though this is an "official" release [i.e., no longer in beta], I would suggest people wait a few weeks, until this new product is fully tested (unless you're intentionally "playing with it" on a non-essential "test box", just to see what happens).
Here is the list of major changes/improvements (copied/pasted from https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=157515.0 )
    • HTTPS scanning
Ability to detect and decrypt TLS/SSL protected traffic in the Web-content filtering component. This feature will protect you against viruses coming through HTTPs traffic as well as adding compatibility for SPDY+HTTPS/ HTTP 2.0 traffic. You can tune/disable this feature in the settings section.
    • AVAST NG (Next Generation technology)
A hardware based virtualization solution capable of running each Windows process in standalone safe virtualized environment (VM) and fully integrated to your desktop. Each process is executed in its own instance of VM, which means totally isolated from your other applications. This feature is now powering the Avast DeepScreen, resulting in better detection. Avast NG requires HaredWare virtualization enabled.
    • SecureDNS (this feature is active in the paid versions only)
A new provider which guards against unprotected DNS/DNS hijack on a router/client (including unsecured networks, public ones, etc.).
    • Home Network Security
Scan your home network for vulnerabilities (wifi status, connected devices, router settings, factory passwords, etc.). It helps to discover potential problems not isolated on the particular device only, but in the entire network of devices you use or connect to the Internet from.
    • Smart Scan
Integrated all on demand scans into one (Antivirus, Software updates, Home Network, GrimeFighter). One scan, different results and recommendations.
    • GrimeFighter Free
GrimeFighter will offer free cleaning of junk files and tuning of system settings. These tasks are performed by our Zilch and Torque minions. Other minion functions remain as paid-for features.
    • New Support System
Easy contact for paid users to submit a ticket with all info included automatically. Improved knowledge base for free users. Help is completely online and is more up to date.
    • General bugfixing
This covers a lot of stability & performance changes in all components (but the main focus was traditionally on the network & engine components).
It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved). Or you can use in-product updater.
But to play it absolutely safe, you should BACKUP your existing settings before installing the new version, so that you'll be able to IMPORT them if needed/desired.

I've finally decided to give avast 2015 a chance, on my secondary (WinXP) system.
First, I backed-up all my customized settings by opening the Avast User Interface / Settings / General / Settings Backup / Back up settings.
I downloaded Avast 2015 build 2208 from MajorGeeks... I felt more comfortable using their download, than going through Avast itself... which redirects you to CNet [which has a bad reputation for "questionable" installers including extra PUPs] :-(
I then went offline, to run the installer... I didn't want to be online, as I'm not sure how protected I'd be during the installation process.
I made sure to DE-select the two Google/Chrome pre-checked options, and go for a CUSTOM installation.
I DE-selected Secure Line (which, to the best of my understanding, is a PAID service), and Grime Fighter (which I believe is just a bunch of garbage I don't want on my system).   Since this was an XP system, Avast recognized that:  it automatically removed mention/choice of the Avast "Gadget", as well as NG, the "Next-Generation" which requires hardware virtualization that's not part of my ancient XP system.   I  allowed the new Home Network Security... I'm curious to see what, if anything, that will find.
I noted the EULA, and continued with the installation.   An Avast icon appeared on my desktop... and a reboot was required to complete Avast's installation.
I opened avast's User Interface, to RESTORE the customized settings I had previously backed-up.   (I did NOT take time to investigate... it's possible they might have been properly transferred/imported... I just didn't want to risk things).   I rebooted the system to make sure these would be fully acknowledged.
Looking at the tabs on the left, the STATUS tab (from 2014) has been renamed as OVERVIEW (in 2015).   Several other tabs/functions on the left --- as well as under SETTINGS --- were renamed/combined.
Observation:   The Overview screen contains a "mysterious" new karma link toward the upper-right.   According to a poster in the avast forum:   "This is new in Avast 2015, you collect Karma [rewards] points [and badges] by using features of Avast, [like] installing Mobile security on your Android devices, posting on the forum, &etc.   It's planned that you can get 'swag' with these points, like free licenses maybe, or other stuff".
I checked out most of the SETTINGS to make sure they were as I wished... including importing all the customized settings from the previous version.   My registration was successfully carried-over as well.
At this point, I allowed the system back online, updated the definitions, and performed a FULL system SCAN.   Surprisingly, this took only 10 1/3 minutes (including [an optional] scan for PUPs):  17.4 Gig of data, consisting of 77,510 files in 4523 directories.   [As expected, no problems were found.]
I then tried the new HOME NETWORK SECURITY scan.   This scanned my Network and Router... very quickly (about half a minute), and pronounced everything secure:   Wireless secure (=encrypted), Router configured correctly, and my devices are NOT visible from the Internet
By the way, a SMART SCAN (available from the SCAN tab) is a simple way to have avast run all the types of installed scans:   a virus scan, a software-updater scan, AND a home network scan [and Grime Fighter, if that module was installed]; which again showed no problems.
Internet access is working, in IE, FF, PaleMoon & OutLook Express, including access to secure httpS:// sites.
All-in-all, a good experience so far (with the exception of the "karma" nonsense).
Finally, stress again that I have NOT tested avast's NG (Next Generation) hardware virtualization technology, since this feature is not available on XP.   This component seems to be one of the more problematic added to the new 2015 version, so anyone installing/testing it is still on their own.   I intend to wait a while longer before installing avast 2015 on my primary Win7 system.

  • 9.0.2.0 back on OTN

We are putting the Web Cache 9.0.2.0 standalone installer back on OTN - should be live later today or early tomorrow. We are also removing the 9.0.3.0 version. Why? Here are the reasons:
    1) 9.0.3.0 is the same Web Cache code base as 9.0.2.0.
    2) All one-off patches and patch sets are being released for 9.0.2.x, not 9.0.3.x. (This was not known to us when we posted 9.0.3.0.) In other words, the latest code is available for 9.0.2.x, not 9.0.3.x. And the recommended migration path for Web Cache 9.0.2.x will be to move to 9.0.4.x when it becomes available.
Customers using 2.0.0.x and/or 9.0.3.0 are encouraged to obtain a copy of 9.0.2.0, apply the latest patch set from Metalink, and use that version instead. (I'm still trying to figure out if there is a way to gracefully migrate from 9.0.3.0 to 9.0.2.0. More on that later.)
We will also soon be posting 9.0.2.0 Linux and Windows versions that contain the Wallet Manager.
    Sorry for the mixup.
    </JA>

One other thing - we are working on a better patch process for standalone installs. Should have something in place by the end of this month. That's a guestimate, not a promise :-)

  • Triggering background jobs

What is the best solution to trigger background jobs within user exits?
Currently the method I am using is quite cumbersome.
    1. Create user event in SM62
    2. Create background job attached to this user event.
    3. Within user exit call function module BP_EVENT_RAISE using user event.
The problem I have with this approach is that in the program I have to add a 15 - 20 sec delay to handle record locking. Lets say I am in a user exit in MM02, triggering this event without the delay can lead to no records been processed.
What are other ways of implementing this solution?
Can I do a SUBMIT report VIA JOB
or CALL FUNCTION IN UPDATE TASK.

    Try this way also.
In the userexit update a custom table with document number + flag (pending for process)
Create standalone program that to be scheduled like every 5 minutes (as you like ) search for this table and get all open documents (with flag eq space ) and process one by one.( Calling jobs)
This will reduced number of repetative background jobs
Say User A edit document 100 at 10.00 am and saves at 10.01 am and user B edit document 100 at 10.02 am and save it
10.03 am ( so every save if you trigger a backgound job, unncessary create jobs for same document number 10 )

  • Cannot logout workspace

I deploy a process to Standalone 10g. Then, I open the workspace and login it. Then it just has the upper frame. I cannot logout after clicking the link of logout.
I unpublish that process and deploy it again. Then, I find the workspace is still blank. I still cannot logout.

    Hi Ye,
Sure you tried this, but you might also stop and restart the engine. This will also stop and restart Tomcat.
Not sure what everyone else is finding, but I'm having to bounce the engine after publishing and deploying quite often in 10g.

  • Reports server 10.1.2.0.2 keeps going down !

    Hi Guys,
The reports server 10.1.2.0.2 ( In-Process NOT standalone one ) works all day, when we come to work next day, we find that reports server is down and giving
    the following error:
REP-501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
We have to do a restart for the reports server to work. The reports server connect
s to a cluster database, therefore, we dont shutdown the database during night f
or backup for reports server connections to fail.
I am thinking of maybe it is related to being idle and losing connections some how.

    Hello,
    Please check the the engine (rwEng) trace file, is it showing similar error as follows;
REP-0501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
    ORA-24323: value not allowed
    therefore, we dont shutdown the database during night for backup It has also been stated as a reason/cause in the doc;
It is possible that the connection has been lost simply because a scheduled (e.g. overnight) backup and restart of the Oracle Server has taken place while the Report Server has remained up and running.
    Please review and see if it is helpful ;

  • DB and JDE adapter install

How install only db adapter and JDE adapter in server with Linux x86, not SOA Suite, only this components. SOA Suite was instaled in other servers.

Im not sure if it works, but you could try the next

"This example illustrates the physical deployment of technology and OracleAS Adapter for Oracle Applications as a part of the BPEL Process Manager standalone OC4J installation. the jar of the dbAdapter is located at : <ORACLE_HOME>/j2ee/oc4j_soa/connectors

  • What happens with SOA schemas during SOA (appServer) Suite reintstallation

I have installed Oracle DB for Vista and also - I have installed serveral times SOA suite - the last time - I installed is using advanced wizard and against my Oracle database (so - not against Oracle lite as it can be by default) and it was sucesfully (all the ESB, BPEL, web services consoles were avialable), then I started to delete the homes of odl suite's installation and result is that my SOA installation is not working now. As I can see from logs - it is becuase of lack of ESB, BPEL etc html documents in htpdoc directory of apache server of SOA Suite.
So my main question is - now I plan to reinstall the SOA suite against the same database - but is it safe? As I guess - previous installation has already created a lot of database objects (besides the usual ESB, Web services and BPEL scripts that should be execute before beginning of installation) and so - what happens with them during reinstallation and should I make any deletions by hand before second installation of SOA suite. I guess - if some old objects will be detected as existing, then SQL scripts will fail during second installation and apparently - any configuration assistants will exit with error and completion will be impossible.
Well - one more question - can I make installation of two SOA suites against the same database?
    Thanks in advance!

First of all thanks for the qucik reply.
Ok, that explains why I can't run the BPEL Process Manager standalone with a shortcut.
So do I assume right that if the Weblogic Server is started, the BPEL Process Manager is started as well? Running on the WLS? Or is there no seperate BPEL Process Manager instance any more?
I installed everything as described in the first link I posted and made the necessary configurations as described.
Nevertheless, when I go to http://localhost:7001/em I arrive in the following situation:
    - I can't see any “SOA” folder in the left-hand side navigation tree as it was described in the tutorial above.
    - As you can see on the screenshot linked below, the soa_server1 is down. I tried to start this server by clicking on it and then I chose to start the server from the WebLogic-PullDown menu from the EM-Menu.
First I received an error saying that the Node-Manager is not started. So I started that one as well and tried again to start soa_server1. Then after a while I saw on the pop-up that soa_server1 has been started. But as you can see from the screenshot below it still appears to be down. When I then try to start it again, the EM-pop-up however says that it is running.
    http://i38.tinypic.com/262wj88.jpg
How - if everything would be running - could I then get to the BPEL process managing view on the EM?
The next problem I have with the JDeveloper. I installed as described above, but don't arrive in installing the plugin. The Update-Process finds the correct plugin. Then I select to install it and already after two seconds it seems to be installed.
How do I create my BPEL process with that updated version of the JDeveloper. Do I have to select Applications -> new -> SOA Composite -> Composite BPEL process or how does that work?
Thanks again in advance for your cooperation!

  • Workflow builder privileges

For development purposes, is there a way to setup different database schemas and grant them privileges to develop workflow definitions without affecting each other?
Currently we are all logging into to the builder with the workflow schema account, and this is dangerous as we may modify each other's work, which is not desirable.
    Thanks.

To launch a test workflow from the Launch Processes page (standalone Oracle Workflow) or the Developer Studio (Oracle Applications), a user needs to be part of the Workflow Administrator role defined in the Global Workflow Preferences page.
If you are talking about launching a workflow process from an application, user access will be controlled by how that application is coded.
