In the ReportDocument.Load method it tries to connect using the using the connection information embedded in the Report File

Post Author: bhaveshbusa
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
In the ReportDocument.Load method it tries to connect using the using the connection information embedded in the Report File. When the application calls ReportDocument.Load(reportFileName). This
tries to connect to the database using the connection information embedded in
the "reportFileName". This was only realised on checking the ODBC Trace
Log. The connection itself is not a problem. The problem is that the embedded
connection information is related to OLD production system. And failed
connections had raised some concerns.
Note: I am using
SetDataSource to populate the data for the report. So I don't need the
connection.
Is there any way I
can disable this auto-connect?
Thanks and

I need a help in answering one of the issue encountered last week.
I have created a database link and tried to access the information from a table using the program written in another language. The password provided was incorrect for that user while creating database link. So we expected that,while retrieving the data, Database connection has to be errored out as password provided is incorrrect.
But unfortunately, user account was locked out. When i checked with DBAs they mentioned that it tries to connect 16 ports with in a min of time.we were shocked as it STOPS another scheduled jobs with that user. and affects production badly.
As per the program, it has to connect only one time and yesterday we tried to execute the program in DBAs observation and it errored out as expected. Didn't tried for multiple ports.
Now the question is, WHY the database connection established 16 times last week and caused user account locked. DBAs are unable to answer it. Any EXPERTs opinion on this would greatly appreciated.
I have verified managing ports in oracle documentation, it was mentioned that if one port is busy it will try to connect to another port in the range of ports mentioned during the installtion. DBAs verified ports related file and it was blank. and they are not agreeing with this reason. Please HELP me in finding the correct REASON for this.
is it a NETWORK issue or issue with DATABASE SERVER only?
Thanks

  • [LV - TS] How to execute a SEQ file, get the result (PASS/FAIL) and the report file ?

    Hello,
    I'm looking for the most obvious and simple way to, from Labview :
    1- Start the Teststand engine : DONE
    2- Get a list of SEQ files to execute : DONE
    3- Loop through the list to execute each SEQ file : <- found some examples but I have some trouble with the UIMessage stuff

    Hello,
    I tried to work from this example :
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/NI-TestStand/Execution-of-TestStand-Sequence-in-LabVIEW-via-TS-API-Different/td-p/2939616/page/2#M46686
    However it remains unclear about how to get a simple
    answer from just running a sequence file out of any
    model so far (Simple Pass). Like I told you, all what
    I need, once the TS engine is started, is a VI with the
    following interface :
    INPUT
    1- TS engine reference
    2- SEQ file path (path or string)
    3- Sequence name to execute
    4- UUT string (optional, but yeah)
    5- error in
    OUTPUT
    1- Result boolean (PASS/FAIL)
    2- Path to XML report
    3- error out
    It would be so cool to just have this
    About the surrounding UI, I'm working on it. The LV
    code is not really important at this point, it's running
    a SEQ file that matters to me.

  • Add serial number in the report file name when using batch process model

        I would like to append a string containing the current UUT serial number to the base name of the report file. For example, uut_report.html becomes uut_report[SN000001].html. This setting is not available if I use NI BatchModel.seq as my process model.

  • Can the XML style sheet be embedded in the report file?

    My customer would like to be able to share test reports with several locations. The problem is that sending just the XML report file is not enough. The report file points to a style sheet that must exist at the specified path on the destination PC. It creates problems when one simply wants to email over a test report. I have customized the style sheet slightly to make things easier to read. So, can I embed my custom style sheet in each report file?

    Hi,
    The XML style sheet should not be embedded into the report file. Since XML would represent raw data, you would not include information on how to interpret it. However, there is a way for you to easily reference your style sheet, even when it is on another computer.
    1) Go to Configure >> Report Options in TestStand, and change the style sheet file to your style sheet.
    2) Uncheck the "Store Absolute File Path" box.
    3) Make sure the style sheet is in the same folder as your report.
    You can view this on any computer, and now a relative path is now being used to reference the file.

  • Saving The Report File (PDF) on Client Machine/PC

    Hi Everyone,
    I am using Oracle Application Server 10g (10.1.2). I have a form that calls a report (both forms and report version are 10.1.2) with ASYNCHRONOUS option and creates a file in PDF format. The report is running fine and is creating the PDF file fine BUT on the application server.
    I need to know if there is a possibility of either creating the file on the client machine/pc or transferring the file from application server to client PC. I would prefer the first option that is to create the file on client PC so the client can print or browse the report later. The second option would be ok if there is no solution for first option but I am assuming that it would take twice as much time. First to create the report on Application Server then to transfer the file from AS to client PC.
    I have already included webutil library and object library but could not find a way to save the file on client PC using any of the APIs.
    I would appreciate if some one provide me detail information. I mean syntax on how to either create the file on client PC or how to transfer the file created on application server to client PC. I would like to know where the report is created on Application server as the path will be required for transfer.
    Thanks in advance.
    Khalid

    Instead of just creating the file, open the file in a
    browser using rwservlet. That way the client can see
    it and save in his PC whenever he wants to.
    Try:
    ...write code to get report id...you must be already
    having this...
    then continue....
    :global.report_server_name:=<servername>;
    reports_servelet:='/reports/rwservlet';
    REPORT_MESSAGE := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(REPORT_ID);
    vjob_id :=
    substr(report_message,length(:global.report_server_na
    e)+2,length(report_message));
    hidden_action :=
    reports_servelet||'/'||'getjobid'||vjob_id||'?server='
    ||:global.report_server_name;
                                       --WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT(hidden_action);
    Basically you get the objid for the report you ran
    and open it in the browser.
    Hope this helps.Hi,
    First of all thanks for you kind reply. Actaully user has an option to preview report and it is working fine. The reports run and display under browser as either PDF or HTML depending on option selected by user. These reports can be saved on client machine without any problem as you mentioned.
    The problem with this form is that as soon as it execute the report it exit out of form. So the reports that are previewed run under SYNCHRONOUS mode and reports that are creating files run in ASYNCHORONOUS mode. I can run preview reports also in ASYNCHOROUS mode and I have already tried it by creating TIMER and WHEN_TIMER-EXPIRED trigger and commenting EXIT_FORM built-in. But as mentioned since the form exit out WHEN_TIME_EXPIRED does not fire and it does not display the report on the browser. I can see the status of the report in print queue when it is finished successfully.
    If the report is not displayed after running in ASYNCHOROUS mode then I will be unable to save the file. That is the reason we created the FILE creation option and thought we will find a way to create/save the file on client PC but I am having hard time to do that.
    I am sure I have made myself clear. Bottom line is that previewing a report in a browse is an option but will not work for long reports and if we run in background then it will not display in a browser as form exits after calling the run_report_object to run report so WHEN-TIMER-EXPIRED is not there to show the report when it is finished.
    Thanks

  • Report Document.Load Method Hangs

    The following code is an exceprt from an asp.net web application we developed.  The report file (TestReport.rpt) file was designed using a 'manually' created schema (xsd) that mirrors the structure of pApptDT. The .xsd file has no DB connection info stored in it.  NOTE: the DBServiceORA and Registrations are base and middle tier classes respectively that do the heavy lifting.
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
        mDBService = (DBServiceORA)Session["DBService"];
        this.BuildReport();
    protected void BuildReport()
        ReportDocument pReport = new ReportDocument();
        try
            DataTable pApptDT = Registrations.GetApptSmry (mDBService);
            string pReportFile = Server.MapPath(Global.WEB_ROOT + @"/Reports_Appointment/TestReport.rpt");
            pReport.Load(pReportFile);
            pReport.SetDataSource(pApptDT);
            MemoryStream pStream = (MemoryStream)pReport.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat);
            HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();
            HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
            HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=Report.pdf");
            HttpContext.Current.Response.BinaryWrite(pStream.ToArray());
        catch (Exception ex)
            Response.Write("<p>" + ex.Message + "</p><p>" + ex.StackTrace + "</p>");
        finally
            pReport.Close();
            pReport.Dispose();
    This code has worked for over a year in our VS2008 development environment.  We use IIS, .Net 3.5, and ODP.Net with an Oracle 10g DB.  In our development environment we use IIS (not the built-in web server) which uses Windows integrated security.   My company recently pushed down new global policies to all desktops.  These new ploicies affected Local Security Policies and permissions on some files in the \windows\system32 directory.  When stepping through the code with the debugger, the application now hangs on the pReport.Load method.
    I need help in understanding the internals of the CR ReportDocument.Load method. We think the problem is somehow associated with CR trying to connect to a non-existent DB using some protocol that got affected by the policy changes. Can anyone shed some light on our problem, in particular what's happening inside the Load method.
    Thanks
    Dan

    Tried several options.
    OPTION 1:
    Created new VS2008 "Crystal Reports Application".
    'Manually' created schema (Activity.xsd) containing no DB connection information.
    Created Activity.rpt (that referenced the above Activity.xsd file).
    Created our 'normal' aspx page with code as follows:.
    DataTable pActivityDT = mDBService.GetDataTable("select * from E_ACT;");
    string pReportFile = Server.MapPath(@"/CRTestApp1/Activity.rpt");
    pReport.Load(pReportFile);
    pReport.SetDataSource(pActivityDT);
    MemoryStream pStream = (MemoryStream)pReport.ExportToStream(ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat);
    HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();
    HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
    HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=Report.pdf");
    HttpContext.Current.Response.BinaryWrite(pStream.ToArray());
    First attempt at displaying the above page results in making it past the pReport.Load but hung on the pReport.SetDataSource.  All subsequent attempts hung on the pReport.Load method. (?????)
    OPTION 2:
    Usng the VS-generated Default page (which included the CR Viewer) the ReportSource was set declaratively as follows:
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
        <div>
            <CR:CrystalReportViewer ID="CrystalReportViewer1" runat="server" AutoDataBind="True"
                Height="1039px" ReportSourceID="CrystalReportSource1" Width="901px" />
            <CR:CrystalReportSource ID="CrystalReportSource1" runat="server">
                <Report FileName="Activity.rpt">
                </Report>
            </CR:CrystalReportSource>
        </div>
    </form>
    Attempting to display the above page results in the application hanging.  I also tried setting the source to a non-existant file just to see if an exception would be thrown.  I got the expected 'Load report Failed' message followed by parital rendering of the CR viewer.
    OPTION 3:
    The report displays as expected when a new connection (pproviding the DB login credentials) is created in the CR Database Expert dialog screens and the Activity (E_ACT) table is selected and used as the datasource for the report.  With this option, the designer displays data from the Activity table in the Main Report Preview screen.  When running the application the CR Viewer prompts for DB login credentails.
    Hope this  sheds some light on the issue we're having.

  • ReportDocument.Load() taking long time.

    Hello,
    We are using crystal reports 2010. We are using OLEDB for connecting to reports. When the reports are originally developed, they are saved with a 'Developer Server' set in them. In the production environment, at the time of printing a report, we load the report and change the connection information in it programmatically. We are seeing that the ReportDocument.Load method takes about 20 seconds. I recreated the problem in our Dev environment and am seeing about 50 seconds for ReportDocument.Load to finish when that original development server does not exist on the network. I have turned on CRPE logging and have gotten _bkgrnd, _Diagnostics, _functions trace files generated. I am not sure, which one to look at to relate to the long time being taken by ReportDocument.Load. Any help on that would be appreciated.
    Also could you guide us, how to speed up the ReportDocument.Load for us ? I mean, we would be having the developer server set in the reports and we are going to override the connection programmatically. So in that scenario, what is the best way for us to speed up the ReportDocument.Load process so that if the server set on the server is not existing, return back quickly.
    Please advise,
    Thanks,

    Apply [Service Pack 1|http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_13_0_1.exe] to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010.
    There was an issue with CR4VS2010, the report slooks for the database server against which the report was originally developed and this increases the report load time.

    Hi,
    Not able to find Report - Standard templates or Report - Custom templates view in Administration - BIP reports in Siebel 8.1.1.3?
    We have applied 8.1.1.3 patch on 8.1.1.0
    below are the steps followed
    Reports are not generated after 8.1.1.3 patch installtion.
    we have also followed to below steps mentioned for this issue in oracle support.
    "In order to resolve this behavior it is necessary to ensure that the 8.1.1.3 FixPack has been applied to the Siebel Tools installation. This will provide an additional .zip file in the REPPATCH folder of the Siebel Tools installation. Once this has been done please then follow the configuration steps as documented :
    change sysprefix to X_ before sif import and chage back to SBL_ after sif import.
    1) Import the sif files from Siebel\8.1\Tools_1\REPPATCH\12-1VMBCSV.zip
    2) Import the 4 SIF files in the following order:
    S_XMLP_REP_TMPL_02112010.sif
    SBL_XMLP_REPORT_SELECTION_FLG.sif
    Report Template BC.sif
    Report Template Registration Applet.sif
    3)Apply the DDL for table S_XMLP_REP_TMPL and compile repository
    Once the above steps have been completed the Selected Record flag will appear in the Report Template Registration views."
    we still not able to generated able to generate reports even after following above steps.
    Thanks
    Sean

  • How to change report displayname at runtime when run from the report server?

    hi all,
    with the reportviewer widget in a winforms app, i'm able to change report displayname at runtime by handling thesubmittingparametervalues event like so:
            private void reportViewer1_SubmittingParameterValues(object sender, ReportParametersEventArgs e)
                string po = e.Parameters["Order"].Values[0];
                this.reportViewer1.ServerReport.DisplayName = "Load Out - " + po + " - " + DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString();
    question: how do i achieve the same thing when the report is run via the ssrs reportserver website?
    thanks for any tips,
    sff

    Hi sherifffruitfly2,
    According to your description, you want to change the display name of report in Report Manager. Right?
    In Reporting Services, we can't make the report file name dynamically. But we have Build-in Fields to show report name and execution time in a report. We can add a textbox and put in the expression below:
    ="Load on- "+Globals!ReportName+" "+Globals!ExecutionTime
    It will show the report name with execution time when we run the report:
    Reference:
    Built-in Collections in Expressions (Report Builder and SSRS)
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
    Best Regards,
    Simon Hou
