In Windows 7 , iMAC heats up quickly

My iMAC 27" (with Radeon 4850) heats up quickly in windows 7 64-bit.
1- I can't have control over the graphic card because the catalyst control center doesn't get installed (no errors while installing, but can't find it after that)
2- in CPU-Z it shows fan speed is 30% and even when it heats up (sometimes up to 72 C) the fan speed remain the same and the system gets really hot.
How can I overcome this issue? this is important for me

Might be interesting to list the codecs you have installed to see if any could be interpreting the PSD format...
There's a good tool for doing that called AutoRuns and it's available here:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902
I'm not sure exactly where to tell you to look, but with the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack I see all the entries as decoders in the Everything tab, under a couple of Class IDs with Instance subkeys...

  • Windows based accounting software QUICK BOOKS can run on Mac OS X Lion??????

windows based accounting software QUICK BOOKS can run on Mac OS X Lion??????

Oops! Sorry pmittal. Completely missed that you said "windows" at the beginning of your post. Thomas is absolutely correct. Intuit is like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde with QuickBooks. The Windows Pro version is full of features. You pay the same amount for the Mac Pro version, but it is severely crippled in comparison.
Believe it or not, Intuit actually has a company policy that the Mac version will never be feature compatible with the Windows version. How's that for treating paying customers as less than second rate! Wish I were making that up, but it's true. Read the blog link. In particular:
Forget the fact that Intuit’s Mac products have always paled in comparison to their Windows counterparts by missing 90% of the features that Windows users have long enjoyed. Forget the fact that Intuit has worked overtime to make sure that their Mac & Windows products would never be cross-platform compatible (this is an internal corporate rule at Intuit).
And this, later in the article:
Many years before QuickBooks was resurrected for the Mac in 2006, a smug Intuit employee at Macworld Expo told me, “We don’t need to update QuickBooks, because it’s still the No. 1 best-selling accounting package for Mac. Mac users still purchase it, even without any new updates.” Seems like their attitude hasn’t changed much.
I know most folks consider blogs unreliable, but I first read this same information at a much more reliable site, I just can't seem to locate it again.
Despite all that, I do use QuickBooks for Mac. Why? One, that's what I started with for my small business because "QuickBooks" is what you always hear to use. I had no idea at the time how crippled it was. Good news (for me) there is that it does more than everything I need, seeing as how I don't need much for an in-home business. Two, my accountant is much happier when he comes over to finalize entries that he already basically knows the program instead of having to wade through something completely unfamiliar, such as the greatly superior AccountEdge (There are two Mac accounting programs with this exact same name. One is pretty expensive, the other is fairly cheap). The one linked to in the blog is the less expensive version, with the Basic version going for $99.
I'd consider switching, but the other packages can't import QuickBooks data. Or at least not accurately. I have too many years of data invested in QuickBooks to consider trying to switch now. One of the other Mac accounting packages offer (or used to) a service to translate your data at so much per record. Well, with thousands of records, that would cost hundreds of dollars. Forget it. So I'm kind of stuck, like it or not. The only real way out of it is to run Windows in a VM and import my Mac QuickBooks data into the Windows version. But since the Mac version does do all I need, that would be rather pointless.

User Tip:  How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat?
    Per your user manual:
Do not operate your MacBook Pro on a pillow or other soft material, as the material can block the airflow vents. Never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro. Never push objects into the ventilation openings.
From MacBook Pro: Care, Use, and Safety Information
For prolonged use, place your MacBook Pro on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your MacBook Pro on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn.
Call Apple Care if you have it or your computer is still under warranty.     Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • IMac and Windows 7 Heat Issues

I have recently decided to install Windows 7 on my 21.5" iMac with an Nvidia Gforsce 9400m GPU as I wanted to play certain games that Wine and mac equivalent prevent me from playing multi-player. Well I have successfully got Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed and running fun however I have noticed with the Bootcamp 3.1 drivers my iMac is running at double normal heat. Averaging 60oC rather than the normal 40oC/30oC.
This has made the top left and back of the iMac become very hot to touch as the GPU jumps up to 62oC when not being used.
I was wondering what I could do to get the fans to do there work, as even at this temp they still run slow and never really change RPM at all.
Also is it possible to download GPU drivers from the manufacture's site rather than ones supplied by Bootcamp?
    Thanks

  • Macbook 2GHz 2GB upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 - Now slow, heats up quickly and regularly stops responding

I have a 2008 Macbook 2GHz 2GB that initially ran on Snow Leopard, and I upgraded it to Lion about 6 months ago. Since the upgrade, it has become slow to start up, open programmes and regularly stops responding - especially when I'm on the Internet - leaving me with the processing colourwheel, and forcing me to turn it off by the button.
I have tried repairing permissions and it doesn't seem to make a difference, could it just be that I don't have enough RAM (only 2GB) to run Lion? I don't want to revert back to Snow Leopard because I sync my laptop with my phone using iCloud, and Snow Leopard would complicate that.
I have also noticed that it heats up especially quickly and gets very hot, although I'm not sure if this problem is related or something to do with the version of Adobe or Microsoft Silverlight that I run on my Macbook.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks a lot!

Honestly I would never run both Win 7 & XP at the same time in a VM. 7 needs at least 4GB to run properly and uses more resources then XP.
I personally use VMware Fusion and XP. At this time there is no software, that I'm aware of or use, that does not run on XP. So for my Mac Win VM purpose I only run XP with the software in need to use in Windows. This work very well for me. I have 2 CPUs and 3GBs of RAM assigned to XP. Leaving the other 2 CPU cores, 4 HT cores, and 5GBs of RAM for OS X.
Not sure why you need, or want, to run both versions of Windows at the same time. I don't see the need as stated above.

  • Jittery windows iMac 24

A quick pointer for anybody getting jittery window/mouse movement on boxfresh silver iMacs:
I took delivery of a new 24" iMac 2.8 at the weekend, and right out of the box, the movement of the windows around the screen and the mouse movement through menu selection etc was very jittery - jumping through menus, and the window movements on the screen looked like it used to on old CRTs when refresh rates were set wrong.
I was worried - as it was brand new and only built 15 days ago in Czech republic. Having used Macs everu day almost for 17 years, knew something was up. A short call to AppleCare fixed it in a matter of minutes. A simple resetting of the PRAM that he talked me through and all seems perfect - easier than expected when i thought I'd have to swap it out. Cheers AppleCare!
Only gripe: a tiny speck of dark dust inside the screen behind the glass. No sign of gradient/lighting problems yet. Will take a close look this week.

  • IMac Heat Issues

So I got concerned about my idle Hard Drive hanging out at 57c. About the power supply idling at 80c. I've had over 5 iMac replacements trying to chase this issue. All of which return to these temps. I was resigned to accepting these temperatures as normal, but now I got feedback from Apple's engineering team that these temperatures are too high and that it should be replaced....
    Anyone else going through this?

Performance alone can be impacted by the fans or processor heat, as more energy is drawn towards the fans, and keeping the machine from overheating. If you read the Energy Saver preferences, it offers the options of either slower performance, or automatic settings to change how the processor and fans react:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8596.html
But just because your performance is impacted, doesn't mean your machine actually is itself overheating. The true test of overheating is if you suddenly see your system shutting down on its own, without your prompting either by System Preference setting to do so, or manually from the Apple menu. The system does have safeguards if it is functioning to shut down the machine automatically if it overheats.
That's why the hardware test Apple offers is important, it can tell you if most of those safeguards are working. Otherwise, an authorized service center might have to tell you if the safeguards are in place. I've seen many cases where a fan is malfunctioning from the Apple hardware test reported here, and once even on my Powerbook. I took it in to Apple and they tried fixing it, and eventually replaced my machine.
The fact you are going through multiple replaces either tells me you have convinced the engineers each of those machines has had problems worth replacing before their even testing it, or there was a problem on some of those machines, but not others. Regardless, I would not use the heat from a third party utility report as the sole basis for replacing your machine.

  • 27" i7 Imac heat question

Is it normal for the secondary heatsink to be hotter than the primary heatsink on a 27" i7 iMac? My primary heatsink is operating at 57c and the secondary is 77c. Thanks.

Do the Mac Pro towers have these heat and shut down issues? How about the Mac Minis? Does anybody know?
If the Mac Pro towers don't have these issues, one theory could be that the basic design of the iMac (display and CPU together in one thin box) is flawed.
I was surprised to come here to the forum and discover that the new iMacs have issues similar to what I experienced with my seven year old PPC iMac.
I had originally assumed the problem with my old iMac was that Apple got a bad bath of power supplies. Now I'm wondering if the problem is a more basic design issue.

  • Small windows appear and disappear quickly

    Hello,
Too often when I'm using my MBP, small windows (dialog boxes) appear and disappear very quickly. I don't know what application generated them, and they usually disappear before I get a chance to read them. Is there a way for me to see what program generated these windows and what where they about? I assume it should be in one of the logs in Console, but I don't know which one.
If it helps at all, the programs I most oten use are iTerm2, Chrome, and MacVim. Googling around didn't show any specific issues regarding these apps.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Windows 10 has just been released and many people are saying this is the most important offering from Microsoft in many years. It is packed with amazing new features. Geek Squad has a range of services related to helping you get started with Windows 10, quickly and hassle free.

All you need is wireless. If the DSL modem does not provide routing services or does not provide wireless, then you need to get a wireless/wired router. If the modem provides wireless, then that's all you need. Consult the user manual for the DSL modem or talk to your service provider.

  • IMac heating up

My iMac is heating up to nearly 85C. The fan kicks in and lowers it to 79/80, but it stays there. I had this problem before and reset the PRAM, which fixed it. But, I turned my iMac off while I was away for the weekend, and now it is doing the same thing. Can/should I reset the PRAM again?

It might be the power supply unit - the machine is not necessarily past it, but if its something like the logic board, that would be too expensive to justify. If it's only the power supply unit, repairing it would be worth it. Take it in and have Apple diagnose it and then make your decision. And caps might look fine but even the slightest swelling is trouble.

  • New iMac heating up

    Hi all!
I just got a brand new 21.5 inch iMac two days ago, and while I was messing around with the camera I noticed that the top of the computer got extremely hot, to the point that I was almost afraid it would burn me if I touched it. I have kept tabs on the computer since then, and when I use if for about a half an hour it seems to heat up again, not as hot, but certainly not what I would expect. I have read of earlier iMacs having problems with overheating, but haven't seen anything about the new ones having the same problem. Is there anything I can do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
iMacs do run warm, it's the nature of a AIO computer do to space restrictions. However for most it's no concern as Apple has built in safeguards that sense when the machine is running too hot. If it get's too hot it will shut down to protect itself and also inform you. The things you can do to protect the machine is make sure it has adequate ventilation, don't put it somewhere where it's all boxed in and doesn't get any air. Keep the room's operating in at a comfortable temperature and ensure it has an adequate power source such as a good battery backup.
I would recommend Googling iStat Pro and download this widget. It will show you some useful information such as temps of various components so then if you have concern you can check specific temperatures.
In short enjoy your computer, I'm sure you will get many years of enjoyment.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Imac heating up and stopping

My iMac 2.1 isight G5 ( 2x512 memory, 250 gb hard drive Mac OS X 10.5.8) keeps heating up and shutting down, sometimes it shuts down completely, but mostly it starts up again by touching the mouse. I have just installed a widget iStatPro that amongst other things displays the temperature of the CPU. I have just watched the temperature rise on the CPU widget till it reached 80 degrees celsius, then it shut down. I guess that 80 degrees is the upper temperature the computer shuts down. After waiting about 5 minutes I see that the temp. has fallen to around 65 celsius, within another 5-10 minutes it has reached 80 degrees, and the cycle continues.
To try and rectify this problem I have done a complete reinstallation of the OS, but the problem is still there.
Can someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what is happening. cheers

Your power supply unit is failing or a connection is loose, you are having a thermal problem. Opening the iSight case is difficult, you might want to take it in and have the tech check for bulging or leaking capacitors. If you feel brave, you can open it yourself:
