IMac and Windows 7 Heat Issues

I have recently decided to install Windows 7 on my 21.5" iMac with an Nvidia Gforsce 9400m GPU as I wanted to play certain games that Wine and mac equivalent prevent me from playing multi-player. Well I have successfully got Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed and running fun however I have noticed with the Bootcamp 3.1 drivers my iMac is running at double normal heat. Averaging 60oC rather than the normal 40oC/30oC.
This has made the top left and back of the iMac become very hot to touch as the GPU jumps up to 62oC when not being used.
I was wondering what I could do to get the fans to do there work, as even at this temp they still run slow and never really change RPM at all.
Also is it possible to download GPU drivers from the manufacture's site rather than ones supplied by Bootcamp?
Thanks

FINALLY - SOLUTION FOUND !!!
Everyone was / is talking permissions - and finally found something at

Click add
Type Guest in the object name box
Click check name (to make sure ok)
Click OK
Tick allow full control
Click ok

  • How do i set a peer to peer network between my iMac and windows machines?

I want to set up a peer to peer network between my iMac and Windows based computers in my house.  I also want it to a wireless set up.  Mostly being done to share videos, pictures, and music. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to Wifi using internet sharing
    Why?
Just connect the MacBook to the same internet as your iMac.
    MacBook > Wi-Fi router > Internet.
You are connected to the internet with your iMac.
    iMac > Wi-Fi router > Internet
Why do you want to go MacBook (via Wi-Fi)  > iMac > Wi-Fi router > Internet?

I have two computers - iMac and PC.  What is the EARLIEST version of Acrobat I can run on each system.  I am running 10.9.2 on iMac and Windows 8 on PC.  Thanks.

Adobe currently supports Acrobat X and Acrobat XI for Mac and Windows platforms. More details about base system requirements can be found here: Tech specs | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and the changes to these requirements with the product updates can be found here : Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes. So the earliest version would be Acrobat X and the Latest would be Acrobat XI.
Please let us know if that answers your query.

I have an email account causes the machine to hang up after being in use for a day.  It only occurs on my Macbook Pro and only one particular account.  The problem account works fine on my iMac and Windows Machines.  I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem.  I have used this account for years.  Any ideas what is causing this?

No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well.  That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library....   Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea.

  • Intel-based IMAC and Windows 7 PC networking

    Hello there,
I'm using both an imac and a pc at my home network. I used to have windows xp installed in my pc and by just sharing some folders, i was able to view and access them from my imac by going to finder and selecting my pc from the list "places" I never set up a network, in fact not even knew how or if it was possible...it just happened,i liked it and started using it
After a short while i upgraded my pc to windows 7 and since then i cannot access it from my mac or vice-versa. There are many folders shared and both computers are connected via ethernet to my modem/router. In fact the only thing that changed, is the OS of the pc... I would really like to bring back at least the option of accessing my pc through my mac.
Can anyone point me to the right direction here? I'm clueless!

THe first thing I would do is go to you WIN 7 and check you network settings to make sure nothing has changed. Depending on your Mac OS X version .. I would also may sure your up-to-date on software updates also. Not sure if you have Tiger 10.4.4, Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard installed?
I would highly recommend Snow L v. 10.6x.x Obviously, everything in the tech world keeps changing and issues just like you bumped into are very common every time something gets freshly updated. Make sure to restart you iMac and recheck the windows sharing features also.

  • I5 iMac and Windows 7: Headphone jack usage makes 1 core extra crazy

Hi. I wasn't even sure where to post this, but here goes...
I got a new iMac at the Apple Store a few days ago. The same day, I installed Vista Ultimate. Right away, I noticed that the cpu cores (in Task Manager) were in use, one at about 100%. The overall CPU Usage showed 35%. No apps in use.
To make a long story short, I never could figure it out.
So I went and bought Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade yesterday. Installed that (64-bit). Everything is great, but the cores were still going crazy.
Turns out that when I unplug my speakers from the headphone jack, it drops to 0% cpu usage! The performance didn't seem to have been affected by it, but it bothered me.
Any ideas what that was all about? Is that a driver issue on Apples part? I could assume it is because Apple doesn't support Win7 yet, but the driver cd contains lots of Windows 7 drivers, and it did the same thing in Vista.
    Anyway, thanks.

I'm surprised to see this happening with the new iMac Core i5/i7s. I would expect Windows 7 to be better in that dept than Mac OS.
Did you manage to find and try to update audio device drivers? RealTek?
Mac OS on 2009 Mac Pro, have high cpu in audio, flash, java as well as iTunes - but not in Windows 7. If you monitor temps (Hardware Monitor for OS X, RealTemp and Everest Ultimate), you will see quick jump in temperate, which is normal, even launching windows or apps. But the Mac Pro is 20*C higher and stays there in OS X, but not Windows 7.
That whole 35%/100% would indicate thread locking going on. And more prone with Core i7 (4 cores, 8 virtual cores with hyper-threading).
The part of the older Windows kernel that had responsibility for managing scheduling was the dispatcher, and it was protected by a global lock. "The dispatcher database lock originally protected the integrity of all the scheduler-related data structures," said Kishan. "This includes things like thread priorities, ready queues, any object that you might be able to wait on, like an event, semaphore, mutex, I/O completion port timers, asynchronous procedure calls -- all of it was protected by the scheduler, which protected everything by the dispatcher lock.
    /snip/
In the new kernel for Win7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the dispatcher lock is completely gone -- a critical element of Windows architecture up until Vista, absolutely erased. Its replacement is something called fine-grained locking, with eleven types of locks for the new scheduler -- for threads, processors, timers, objects -- and rules for how locks may be obtained to avoid what engineers still call, and rightly so, deadlock. Synchronization at a global level is no longer observed, Kishan explained, so many operations are now lock-free. In its place is a kind of parallel wait path made possible by transactional semantics -- a complex way for threads, and the LPs that execute them, to be negotiated symbolically.
    snip
In other words, keeping processors busy to reduce latency -- one of the methodologies that we were told years ago would help Vista -- actually reduces overall efficiency. Multicore processors work better when their logical processors (LPs) can be put to sleep, or "parked," and their active threads shipped to another LP.

  • IMac and Macbook Pro Networking Issue

Just recently both of my Macs have developed a wierd networking issue.  I am sharing folders on my Windows server (WHS), now this odd slow issue appeared when using a file from the server.  It acts like my network is really slow when opening a file, but my windows machines work fine on it.
I have not made any changes to the server, I am running a Gigabit Cisco network (not linksys) in my home and this thing has got me stumped.  I installed an anti-virus on the iMac and it found nothing.  Either wired or Wireless I see the same results but only related to the Mac's..... does anyone have an idea what might be doing this?  I am kinda a Mac noob in most aspects so I am looking for any help here.

It very well could be the antivirus app, most are intrusive and debilitate rather than enhance performance and should be removed using the developers instructions. You haven't really told us anything useful such as any settting you may have changed. However if you began working backwards resetting any changes and uninstalling the apps added since the performance issue started then you probably will find your issue.

  • Networking between iMac and Windows / iTunes problem

    Hey Guys,
I've recently got an iMac 27" i5 and I'm having a few issues with the networking performance. I'm using the gigabit ethernet port (AirPort is off) into a gigabit switch. Also plugged into the switch is a Windows Home Server (WHS) machine also with a gigabit connection.
Both my iMac and WHS are showing on the switch as being connected at gigabit speeds. I also have Parallels 6 installed on my iMac so I can test the performance of Windows 7 on the same hardware (albeit with the overhead of the virtualisation layer). In parallels the networking is bridged onto the default adaptor rather than being shared.
    iMac file copy
iMac ftp from WHS 4.81 MiB/s
iMac Parallels Windows 7 ftp from WHS 4.5 MiB/s
I also have constant problems with iTunes locking up, hanging, showing the spinning wheel (all my media is on the WHS machine).
Does this sound correct or should I be getting better performance than this?
    Thanks
    James

  • How do I share wifi data between iMac and windows based computer on wifi network?

I have an unsecured wifi network at home and need to easily share photos between computers>  I have an iMac and a couple window based computer> Is ther an easy way instead of using a thumb drive?

Since photos are typically large files it will probably be quicker with the thumb drive. The other way is to set up sharing where the files are located and directing the other computers to look there.

  • 24" iMac and 3GB RAM limit issues

I have a legitimate concern with the 24" iMac and wanted to know if anyone else thinks it's an issue. Read Apple's tech note on late model 2006 iMacs including the new 24" model.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechRAM/Articles/RAM_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003899-DontLinkElem entID5
In order to use RAM in an interleaved fashion it states you must use matched pairs. Meaning same size and type. SO.....if the new iMacs will take a 2GB SO-DIMM then why won't it register 4GB total? You can configure your new iMac with 3GB of RAM but it won't be interleaved. On top of that 2GB SO-DIMMs are super expensive in the +$700 range. More then MacPro's FB-DIMMs.
I don't see anyone talking about this but it seems to be a legitimate concern.

That IS the point, what person paying $2000 for a computer would be willing to pay another $1500 for a 4GB RAM upgrade? I just think right now it's hurting Apple's sales of the 24". The 24" encroaches on the prosumer market and at this point in time an affordable 2GB of RAM may seem adequate now but most likely not in 6 years. Which is how long I had my Digital Audio Power Mac. So I think anyone in the prosumer market NOW, like myself, looking for a machine that will last a few years may look away from the 24" and steer toward the Mac Pros. My needs fall squarely in between the 24" iMac and Mac Pros but unfortunately my budget does not. I could live with the 24" even with the expensive cost of the 2GB SODIMMs. I would in fact wait until the prices fell. What I can't live with is the fact that the iMac will only ever be able to use an uninterleaved 3GB when the possibility of an interleaved 4GB seems to be there. I was only able to keep the Digital Audio because I squeezed every ounce of life I could out of it because of various periodic upgrades.
Reluctantly I'm going with the Mac Pro but I REALLY wanted to get the 24" iMac. Thats all.

  • CS6 is not working anymore on iMac and Windows

I have a cs6 premium web design on my iMac and on my windows system and have two different serial numbers. One for Windows and one for my iMac. Then I had a one-year subscribe to the Creative Cloud, which has now expired. Now I wanted to use the CS6 version, but it is blocked. It indicates that the two numbers are invalid. I can not use CS6 anymore, but the serial numbers are simply valid. I contacted customer service 3 times, but they could not help me even though they all looked at me computer and also took over . The only thing I can think of for this problem is that I need new serial numbers for CS6 premium web design. One for the Imac and one for the windows system.

I have to start the task manager and end the task, which closes the browser only thing i have found to work is if i do a resart of the PC.

    Good day,
Could you provide some additional details about both the file and your system's configuration?
What version of Adobe Reader X do you have installed? (Help > About Adobe Reader)
If you haven't updated to 10.0.3, please do so and see if the issue persists.

  • I have installed mackeeper on my iMac and ia show 1945 issues, is subscibing to mackeeper the only way to get rid of these issues

I have installed Mackeeper on my iMac an it shows 1945 issues, and they have used 700+ GB of hard drive space, is subscribing to Mackeeper the only way to get rid of these issues?

Those are not real issues. I tested the MacKeeper trial on a freshly-installed OS X 10.8.2 system, with absolutely nothing added to it, and it identified almost as many "junk files." They're not really junk, you're being scammed to convince you to pay the money to buy the program so you can "fix" the "problem." There have been many reports that allowing MacKeeper to "clean up" your system can actually destroy it, requiring reinstallation.
MacKeeper is to be avoided at all cost. For more information, see Beware MacKeeper. Remove it according to the instructions here:

  • How to Set Up Network Between IMAC and Windows XP

    Hi
I have a new Imac 27 inch in my study and a PC running Windows XP downstairs - I don't know how to set up the PC and when I phone apple support they could only tell me how to file share from the IMAC end - would be grateful for some help

First of all, it is easier if your Windows user has a password, it may not be the case, if not, you should set one.
Then check your firewall settings. if it is activated, go to your network connection's properties, choose the Exceptions tab, and check "File sharing" so that it will no longer be blocked.
From now on, you should be able to connect to your computer from the finder.
Choose Go > Connect to server
Then in the address, type smb://ip.address.of.windows/ and OK
after a short time, it will prompt you for your username and password, and you should be able to access your Windows resources.
If your Mac and Windows are in the same workgroup (set in computer properties in Windows, and in Network properties in Mac) it will appear in any finder window side bar.

  • Networking\Sharing: Drive resourse with Imac and Windows PCs

May question start with how dose a person share an IMac external USB drives\resourses with a windows systems.

    Hi Dennis,
I tried the steps provided but when I attempted to connect the two computers my iMac said it had to shutdown and had a series of error codes it wanted me to send to apple.
If I follow these steps successfully will I be able to copy or pull files from the windows machine onto the iMac? We have lots of pictures and word files that I'd like to transfer onto the iMac and into programs like iPhoto and Word for Mac.
Is there any other programs required to get the two machines to share files other than what is on both computers?
    Thanks, Roger
