Include Icons in Export to PDF

Hi
When a web template has exceptions applied to it, the user has the option to show those exceptions in colour, or with icons. Seeing that they print in black and white, it seemed like a better plan to show the exceptions with icons. This works in the web template, and looks quite nice, but when the data is downloaded to PDF (for printing), the icons are not included.
Is there something I need to do in order to allow icons to be included in the output to PDF?
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi,
Personally I found it very useful to get PDF export for WEB templates using simple PDF printers (like CutePDF, ADOBE, etc) you will get the exactly the same page as being displayed.
To be able to print whole page and not only the first page you would need to get focus on main fraime. For this add the Javascript element to your webtemplate and put there this code:
function PrintThisPage()
window.print();
for (var i=1; i < window . frames . length ; i++)
window.frames [ i ] . focus(); window . frames [ i ] .print();
After that you just need to assign above function to a button in your web template. You might also need to specify the scaling factor on your printer as 80% or use fit to the page functionality of IE7.
Best regards,
Max

  • TOC does not include hyperlinks in export to PDF

    I created an eBooklet in Pages, but when I export it to PDF, the TOC does not include hyperlinks to the pages. There aren't any signs of the TOC including links in the original Pages document, either.

    The iWork '09 DVD can be had at Amazon. You will need to apply the Apple IWork 9.3 updater to bring the applications to their last revision, and compatibility with Mavericks and Yosemite. The help menu in Pages ’09 v4.3 has a link to the that specific PDF user guide. The Number '09 guide is there too. The Keynote  '09 PDF User Guide is here.
    Pages v5 documents are not directly backwards compatible with Pages '09. You will need to export the content as Pages '09. Since Pages v5.5.1 is lacking nearly 100+ features that were in Pages '09, you must take care with opening Pages '09 documents in Pages v5. It will filter out content that it does not support (e.g. linked text boxes).
    Any double-click on a Pages document with both applications installed, will default to opening in Pages v5.5.1. Deliberate effort is required to open Pages '09 documents, either by the Pages '09 file chooser, or a two-finger tap (on your Air) to bring up the secondary menu that has Open with > Pages (4.3) on it.

  • Modification Export to PDF in WAD

    Hi,
    I have created a web template(copy of Std Template) and using export to PDF option. while downloading I am getting all the variables used in the query.
    My question: Is there any way I can restrict to selective variables? I know using some INFO_FIELD_ITEM in XHTML but not sure what the exact code to write,
    Can someone pls give me an example.
    Regards,

    Hi Vijay,
    You need to insert an Info Field Item onto the template. Please choose from the Info Field settings as to whether you need to display only static filters (query restrictions) or dynamic filters (user entry vars) or you can also choose to show only selective vars by specifying the same under Data Binding -> List of Elements to Display -> Type of Text Element = Variable Value & then specifying the var, likewise for each such var you wish to show. Alternatively, you can also choose to display only vars having values i.e Display Variables -> Variable Settings -> Only Variables with values.
    You then need to ensure you choose the Info Field Item as one of the web items to be included in the Export to PDF command. Hope this helps.

  • How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo's?

    After reading dozens of forum, I still don’t found the answer.
    I made a photobook with full-colur and B/W photos for Offset printing. I want the B/W to be in grayscale to avoid color possible color shades. It seems InDesign doesn’t support grayscale, the images become way to dark. Even with exporting without any colour conversion or destination and/or including original colour profiles, the grayscale pictures are being exported to dark to PDF.
    How can I export to PDF for Offset printing including color and grayscale photo’s?

    Yes, the Photoshop & ID CMYK working spaces are the same
    This can get difficult because the 3 programs handle soft proofing differently.
    The working spaces don't matter, it's the document profile(s) that manage the preview. So here is the same grayscale image placed in ID on top and PS on the bottom. I've set my Photoshop info to show the doc profile in the lower left corner. I can see my InDesign's Document CMYK profile in my Proof Setup (the Working CMYK is different and isn't being used). Both profiles are effectively the same Coated FOGRA39 (Black Ink FOGRA in the case of PS).
    But the previews don't match because I have Overprint turned off, so the InDesign preview is Gamma 2.2 or a "screen" media preview.
    If I turn on Overprint preview I get a match because I'm soft proofing for print:

  • Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting to PDF?

    Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting in PDF? I can seee the TOC in iBooks Author but when I want to see what it looks like in a regular PDF, the TOC does not show up.

    Strange question you ask here. Not sure why that is relevant to "why" IBA won't publish a table of contents in a PDF.
    But since eyou asked, it's simple, I want to author some books in IBA and also see what they look like - completed - in PDF. Again, any suggestions as to a work around so I don't have to cut and paste back into Pages?

  • How do I export a PDF without the print bleed extra "stuff" around the edges?

    I know my question wording sucks, but I didn't know how else to put it.
    I created a document in ID for print with a bleed.  When I export to PDF, the image is not cropped to the finished size of the page, but includes the excess background images that I extended beyond the page bounds for a bleed.  I am now trying to export a PDF that can be sent in email and will not be printed, and so I would like to export a PDF file that does not have any of that extra stuff (I have turned off the printer's marks) around the edges.  But my PDF has the excess stuff and a red outline around the actual page dimensions.  How do I export a PDF that is cropped to the correct page size (8.5" x 11")?
    I have attached the PDF I have created with the excess stuff and the red outline around the page size so you can see what I mean.
    Thanks!
    Bryan

    Hello,
    i have a problem exporting as a PDF also, i have done this before successfully and i have unchecked all the boxes to turn off bleeds etc, etc... however the bleed area is still coming through. I have tried saving the file under another name, closing down and reopening - nothing seems to work. I'd be very grateful if someone could offer some advice on this.
    Thanks!

  • InDesign doesn't let embed the font while exporting to PDF

    I used a font while working on a document in InDesign and later while exporting to PDF I got a warning that the software is unable to include that font.
    Is there a way to go around it? It was a free cyrillic font and it's not possible to buy it. I suppose creating outlines is not the right way to go
    Thanks in advance

    Eugene Tyson wrote:
    … Most free fonts that I know of don't allow embedding - for this reason it's not a good idea to use a free font. …
    I'm no particular fan of so-called “free fonts” — you most often get exactly what you pay for. However, that having been said, in my years of gathering such fonts for debugging and problem solving, in fact very few of them are actually set with the protection bits to prohibit embedding. For TrueType and OpenType fonts, you can readily check outside of InDesign as to whether a font is embeddable in a PDF file. For Windows, right-click on a font file and check the properties; embedding privileges are described in one of the tabs. For MacOS, the FontBook utility can provide the same information for a font.
    The problem is that when you attempt to use a font that is physically protected against embedding, you pretty much need to follow the advice given by Eugene. Personally, I would recommend the use a different font option, checking the font prior to using it for your rights to embed it in PDF.
    Note that font licensing is legal minefield. Many fonts that are posted on-line are not really free. Some are shareware with restrictions in their written licenses that require payment for commercial use (often in ReadMe files which may somehow be “lost” when such fonts are reposted over and over again) or even pirated fonts (i.e., commercial fonts simply illegally posted on-line).
    My personal recommendation is that for any commercial use, you explicitly license your fonts from a known, reliable source to avoid possible legal issues in the future.

  • Save options while exporting to pdf

    I do export in pdf often, and each time I see 3 checks (Pring each stage of build, add borders.., Include date), which are very annoing, since I don't need them at all and have to switch off all this great features. How to switch them off permanently?

    You can minimize the margins considerably by unchecking two options and having your image slightly larger than the slide (there is a limit, of course).
    By using the Print option, the setting you set in the Print Dialogue, stay as you last set them rather than reset each time. This should meet that objective. Try it.
    The other choice is to uncheck those pesky boxes each time you Export a PDF.
    Good Luck.

  • Error while exporting to PDF - Operation not yet implemented

    Hi,
        We using C# Dot Net 2005 and Crystal Report for Dot Net 2005 and we are trying to export to PDF file.  In one of the reports, we are using a Font "Shree-Kan-0850' from Shree Samhita, a SDK to build application in Indian regional languages. But we are getting an error as follows:-
    "Error in File C:\Document~1....\{....}-.rpt: Operation not yet implemented.". When we tried in various sites and forums found that it was due to some non-standard fonts. We have checked that if we remove Shree-Kan-0850 font from report, it works fine and once included the error comes. So problem might by from this font. Whether Crystal report is not supporting other than Windows standard fonts or the problem with PDF? Because with same font we can export to DOC, XLS etc. Please guide us how to solve this?
    Thanks and regards,
       Rajeev Vandakar, Bangalore.

    Unfortunately, it looks like that font has many issues. Googling 'Univers Condensed Fonts .net' gets a number of interesting posts. E.g.;
    Univers 67 Bold Condensed Font does not show in my Flash Fonts List
    See if you can select the font in the properties window of the VS.NET IDE.
    It would also be interesting to see if the following will work in a new test app:
    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object,
    ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
         Label1.Font = New Font("Univers 57 Condensed Font – Univers 57 Condensed", 12, FontStyle.Regular)
    End Sub

  • Errors in Export to PDF for web use - some images are lost when PDF is enlarged & in browser

    I have a multi-page PDF in InDesign CS6 that I want to export to view on the web. I need the file to stay under 2MB, and I need it to be crisp and nice enough to read the type on the page (as small as 9pt type).
    The errors that are occurring are the following:
    On some browsers, some images will entirely not show up. Some of the missing images have been pasted into the document, some placed. I cannot think of a correlation.
    When the PDF is enlarged (Adobe Acrobat X 10.1.10) to more than ~200%, there is one placed image that will mostly disappear. What I mean by "mostly" is that little bits of it are still visible, like I masked it carelessly or something. Since this is only occurring with one image it seems that it would be a problem with the image itself, yes? I'm all ears if I'm making a mistake. It is a placed .ai file with no link errors. Should I not be placing directly from illustrator? It renders wonderfully from 100% all the way up to 188%, and then if you enlarge by margins of 1% little bits of it disappear, almost a chunk at a time.
    The way I've been exporting is:
    File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print)
    Adobe PDF Preset: Smallest File Size
    Standard: None
    Compatinility: Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)
    Options: Optimize for Fast Web View
    Export Layers: Visible & Printable Layers
    Compression
    I always change the downsampling from [100/150] to [150/225]. I usually leave the JPG image quality low. I leave both bottom boxes checked (compress text and line art, crop image data to frames)
    Output
    Color Conversion: convert to destination
    Destination: sRGB 1EC61966-2.1
    Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
    However, after reading a few other forum questions I started trying to export as Acrobat 4 so that it would flatten. When I do that, problem #2 still persists although I didn't test problem #1. I haven't tried using Distiller, and using the "prepare for web publishing" action within Acrobat itself makes the PDF too artifacted.
    At the heart of my question is this: I am a young designer at an old company that is not necessarily keeping up with the times. I REALLY want to know what the best, most efficient way to export a pdf for web viewing is. Does this exist in InDesign, outside of InDesign? Does it exist at all? Tell me what I'm doing wrong so that I can get better!
    Thank you in advance.

    Show Large Images is a preference inside of Acrobat which might be disabled.

  • Table of Contents bookmarks not exporting to PDF (CS5)

    I have a 200 page book made up of 15 documents.  I've created a table of contents based on paragraph styles and the TOC generates and formats correctly.  When I create the TOC, the Create PDF Bookmarks box is checked.  When I export the whole book I've tried it with Create Tagged PDF checked and unchecked.
    After I export to PDF from the Book palette, the TOC items are links (at least they give me the pointer-hand icon) but they don't go anywhere.  The only one that does is the one in the same document as the TOC.  (I have tried the TOC both within a chapter and also in it's own document with no other links in it).  The behavior is the same in the Bookmarks pane - all are shown but only one works.  I've looked at several of the bookmarks' Properties > Actions.  It says its "Going to a page in another document" > (document-name-of-the-correct-chapter-but-with-pdf-instead-of-indd.pdf) > Page 1 (this is correct) > Zoom level: actual size.
    This isn't right - it's pointing to an imaginary pdf that doesn't exist.  It should be pointing to page X in the current document.
    Here's what I've tried:
    * restarting InDesign
    * restarting my machine
    * deleting the TOC and regenerating it
    * generating the book with all documents open or all documents closed
    * moving the TOC to its own document
    * probably some other things I've forgotten in the struggle
    All of the links and references in the individual documents are good.
    I've looked around these forums and this seems to be an ongoing and unsolved issue for other folks using older versions.  This is the closest I came to finding an answer but ended up with an Adobe employee logging it as a bug in 2009.  Bookmarks not exporting from InDesign to PDF in CS4                     By (c_goates)
    So here's hoping there is some new information.  I've been trying to get this to work for far too long and don't relish drawing bookmark boxes around all 55 of my text links.
    Specs: Max OS 10.6.6, CS5 (Version 7.0)
    Sorry this is so long, but details help, usually.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

    There are some known problems with bookmarks and CS5 as well. As far as I know, the 7.0.3 update won't fix them, but it does solve some other problems, so you should install it.

  • "Export in PDF" as default option since viewer

    Hi,
    I wrote a complete winform application using CR2008.
    For information :
    C# Framework 3.5
    Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1
    CR2008 SP1
    Application allow to preview report. In the preview window (CR activx) there is a "letter icon" to export report in several format.
    -RPT
    -PDF
    -DOC
    -XSL
    -XSL Data only
    Is there any way to force the dropdown on "PDF" option as default ?
    Is there any way to export in another format (like CSV) from the CR activeX ?
    Thanks a lot for your reply,

    Hi, Jonik;
    There is no way to change the way our export button behaves.
    What you can do is remove that button from the viewer, and create your own button which does the type of exporting that you want.
    To remove the export button, set the ShowExportButton property on the viewer to False.
    See the tutorials we have here, there should be one that focues on exporting:

  • Indesign won't export to pdf

    Hi everyone,
    I've just upgraded to Indesign CS5. I've also downloaded the patch so that it's version 7.03.
    When I try to export to pdf, I get an error that says: 1 problem was found with a background task: Failed to export an eps item on page A.
    I get the same error when I try to export any file at all.
    Anyone know why this is happening? It worked fine in CS4.
    Appreciate any advice.

    Try putting a couple of random files together in a book and see if that will export. Books export to PDF in the foreground, so this should tell us if the problem is in the background task itself, or something else.
    If it's happening with all files, my instinct is it is either corrupt preferences, a conflict with some other software, or a damaged instalation of ID. I think som Firefox plugins have been implicated in odd behavior in ID, and of course third party ID plugins are always suspect. Try cloing all other apps and see if it makes a difference, and deactvate any optional plugins, including any font auto-activation. If that doesn't work, the next thing I would try is Replace Your Preferences, followed by a reinstall as a last resort.
    Have you ever been able to use the background export? Can you export to .idml instead? What's the OS?

  • How to embed SWF in InDesign and export as PDF?

    I am trying to do something that seems very simple, but I can't get it to work. I have a simple SWF animation that I have exported from Flash CS5, and I have placed it into my Indesign CS5 document. I checked these items in the Media panel:
    Play on Page Load
    Poster: From Current Frame
    When I export the PDF, I select PDF/X-4 and choose Interactive Elements: Include Appearance. I get a still image of the animation in the PDF, but it doesn't play. Why?

    Hi, I have the same issue??
    Even when exporting as an interactive pdf.
    My problem is that I am trying to figure out how to export my swf embedded file into an interactive pdf.
    I have created an interactive presentation with buttons, effects etc. After which I exported to swf so that all the effects work.
    But when placing the swf file back into indesign and exporting again as an interactive pdf it doesn't work at all, all I get is a white screen. (I need a pdf for clients basically, they dont want any swf or flash files.)
    Even though after placing the swf file, in the media window I ticked play on page load as well as chose a cover image for the swf file. Still just a white screen when exporting.
    To repeat, I need to know how to convert my swf file into an interactive pdf.
    Any pointers please would be great I have some swf presentations I need to change into pdf as soon as possible or before tomorrow to be exact before our monthly meeting with clients.
    Please help
