Inconsistencies E-mailing Results

Hello, all:
I'm exploring the eLearning capabilities of Captivate 3.0,
and I'm having trouble with reporting. I'm trying to simply e-mail
the quiz results and interactions to myself either in the body of
the message or as an attachment. I've found that there are three
locations to enter an e-mail adress: Quiz Preferences, Pass/Fail
Preferences, and PENS preferences.
If I select the e-mail the results radio button in the Quiz
Preferences dialog and enter my e-mail address, I see a button on
my final slide that I get to label, apparently, via the Review Area
preferences dialog. Something to the effect of Send Email. If I
select e-mail as the action to take when the quiz is passed and/or
failed, and specify my e-mail adress in the field, that seems to be
triggered by the continue button on the final slide.
I don't understand how these two are different, and the Send
Email button seems to behave inconsistently. Sometimes I am able to
generate a results email, and other times I am not. Sometimes it
has interaction data and sometimes it does not. The interaction
data never seems to be comprehensive, either.
And every time I click the continue button, I get a blank
email. I've tried tweaking and altering all sorts of settings, but
the results are the same. Can anyone give me any insight into this
functionality? Adobe's documentation seems pretty sparse on the
subject . . .
Additional questions:
I cannot move slides beyond the final slide that contains the
results. Is this intended behavior? If so, why have a continue
button? Why can't I delete the continue button?
Does anyone know what LMS solutions offer PENS support? I'm
having trouble researching this topic. I can locate information on
various open-source and proprietary solutions, but no details on
PENS.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this subject.
Heath

Hi Heath,
Unfortunately, the e-mail results option is pretty much a
dead end. It is extremely unreliable due to modern browser/OS
security restrictions and is completely reliant on how the
individual user's machine is configured.
The user must have a dedicated e-mail client, that is
registered with Windows as the "default e-mail application" and
even then some e-mail apps seem to behave better than others. Plus,
depending on the user's browser and that browser's security
settings, the e-mail may never even get passed to the e-mail
client. It's a real mess.
Based on a scan of these forums, your experience is
absolutely in line with what many other people are reporting and as
such I wouldn't ever rely on the e-mail option for production work.
As to the Quiz Summary slide issue, what you're seeing may be
related to the fact that the Summary slide must always come after
the last scored interaction. Make sure that the slides you're
trying to add after the Summary do not have reporting/scoring
turned on for any of the interactions and Captivate should behave.
PENS doesn't seem to be really well supported as yet. I think
Pathlore supports it, but I haven't heard of any other LMS products
that do. Hopefully some other folks will have more on this issue.

John

  • Pasting images into Mail results in a hypertext link, not the image itslef?

    Hello
I'm posting on behalf of a friend. He tells me that when he copies an image (e.g., from within Safari) and pastes into the body of a Mail message, this results in a link not the image.
However, when I receive the message, I see the image in the body.
The question is, is there a way to have the image appear in the email message he's composing vs. a hyperlink?
N.B. when copying the image he is choosing "Copy Image" not "Copy Link"
    Thanks

He could just drag-and-drop the image from Safari to his desktop, then drag-and-drop it to the email (or use Add Attachment).  Or maybe he could just drag-and-drop it straight from Safari into a new email, without copy-and-pasting at all?

  • Prevent mail results in spotlight

Hi, in the finder when performing searchs, I don't want emails to show.
In spotlight prefs I have unticked mail, but they persist.
Is there a way to not show emails, it really spams the results, and if I am looking for a mail, i'll do that in the mail app.

Petrock, what's your brute force method?
*Note: Use this method as a last resort, if the methods listed above (via Spotlight Pref Pane) don't work.*
    0) Make sure Spotlight is not indexing (+click on the magnifying glass in the upper right corner of your screen, if you see a progress bar it is indexing. If you see a edit text field, then its not+)
    1) Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
    2) type: *ls /Volumes* +Note: This will list all your mounted volumes, including volumes from servers you are connected to. These instructions only apply to the local hard drives/partitions and connected Firewire/USB drives. These instructions assume you know which volumes are which.+
    4) type: *sudo rm -r /Volumes/Nameof_first_local_volume_listed_the_lastcommand/.Spotlight-V100* +Note: Those are zero's, not Oh's, and there is a '.' before Spotlight-V100, its supposed to be there. This will ask for your admin password. When you type it in it won't print any characters, its supposed to be like that. Just make sure you type your password correctly. Example: sudo rm -r /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/.Spotlight-V100+
    5) Repeat step 4 for all local volumes and mounted firewire/usb drives
    6) Restart
When the Finder comes back up, Spotlight will start indexing every volume you performed step 4 on. Go get a soda/milk/beer/wine/cappuccino/whatever and wait for Spotlight to finish (wait for the magnifying glass to stop pulsating). It could take a while. Just let it run.

  • Checking Comcast e-mail results in locked mailbox...

    Hello.
I got my iPhone activated in 4 minutes without a hitch, thankfully. I also configured my e-mail accounts fairly easily without difficulty and I have no problems checking and sending e-mail with iPhone. I am using 6 e-mail accounts, including .Mac, Yahoo!, Gmail, Earthlink, Comcast, and a private domain e-mail account on a hosted unix web server. After checking e-mail on my Comcast.net account using iPhone (and, if there is something in the inbox), the Comcast mailbox becomes locked and I am unable to check it using my computer (Entourage client); I can still check it with iPhone though. The lock gets released in about 20 minutes or so, and I can then check it using Entourage, but it becomes locked again after iPhone rechecks it. I experienced the same problem on my private e-mail account on my hosted domain (unix server), which was using POP3. The problem went away when I changed the iPhone protocol for this account from POP to IMAP (but left as POP on Entourage). I can't seem to get my Comcast settings on iPhone to work with IMAP - only POP seems to work, so I’m stuck with the intermittent mailbox locking problem.
I don't see this locking behavior on any of the other accounts, including Earthlink’s POP server. There is something peculiar about the way the Comcast POP3 server is handling the iPhone request. Anyone have any insights?
    Thanks,
    Stu

Thank you for the replies. I understand this behavior of the POP3 protocol, and how it is possible for some mailboxes to become locked by one client, preventing another from accessing the mailbox until it becomes unlocked. However, the effect on the Comcast account lasts for about 15 minutes. It doesn't happen on some of my other POP accounts, such as Earthlink.
Furthermore, it only occurs when iPhone checks for mail on my Comcast account first (then, it becomes locked and I can't check it from my desktop computer). When my desktop computer checks the Comcast account first, it is not locked afterward, and iPhone (or any other device) has no problem checking for mail immediately afterward.
The likely conclusion is that the iPhone behaves differently from the desktop client (in this case Mail and/or Entourage), causing the POP mailbox to lock (with Comcast, at least). One is tempted to deduce that iPhone is not signaling a release of the mailbox that Comcast expects. Perhaps Earthlink has a much shorter "keep alive" than Comcast, so this behavior doesn't occur.
    Thanks,
    Stu

  • E-mail results as an attachement in excel format

    Hello,
I have printer MPDF using device type PDF1 and Host Spooll Access Method 'M' for sending e-mails from our SAP 7.0.  We are getting e-mails with file attachments in PDF format from a number of our background jobs set to print to printer MPDF.
Is there anything similar which can be done to get e-mails in XLS format from a background job?
Is there a device type which can do this?
Is there any way to accomplish this task without ABAP programming?
    Please advise.
    Thanks
    Galina

It's not feasible without additional development. You would have to either change the program itself or create a "wrapper" program, which would get the output and then send an email with XLS attachment by using a function module, for example. Function modules and all the details may be found on SDN, it has been discussed many times.
HTML can be imported into Excel - lazy users...

  • E-Mail Results and Hotmail

    Hello,
I have been testing the e-mail feature with Adobe Captivate
and it works great with pop mail but I cannot seem to get it to
work with Hotmail. I keep getting a page cannot be displayed error.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this to
    work?

    Hi ricksnowaputi
Personally, I'd be very surprised if it were to ever work
with HotMail or GMail or WebMail or any other web based E-Mail
client. I've never known it to work with anything but a locally
    installed Pop mail client.

  • Sending mail results is weird stuff happening

I've been having heaps of problems when I send mail using the Mail programme on the mac (that never happen with exactly the same email accounts using Outlook on my other two, Windows, pc's). Sometimes parts of the message go missing. (like today - this is what one guy got when I sent him an email Hi Nomi and Jerome -- for some reason, part of Sarah's message wound up in
the attachment called "untitled attachment 03982.txt". If that happened
to you, you might have missed it. So...just in case.....here is the part
that I found in "untitled attachment 03982.txt"). Other times the recipient says the message just looks like it's all Greek letters and unreadable - yet they can send the message back to me and it looks perfectly fine on my computer! WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING? Can anyone help me stop? I use my mac for business and I really can't be having mis-formatted messages going to clients.

Not going to be easy to figure out what happened with mixing message content. I don't think Mail alone could do that -- do you have any plugins or enhancement apps related to Mail?
In general, make sure to use Plain Text only when sending to those people who report problems with displaying normal text.

  • Script to take pictures of desktop and mail results

    Hi,
I am reposting as posted before finishing and I can not edit the message, > server tels me I am not allowed to edit.
I have a headless server. It has a problem I cannot recreate manually.
It is programmed to do a restart and if this fails to do a forced restart. However when it does the forced restart I would like to know what is happening and why it failed. So I thought if I have it take pictures of the desktop I might see what dialogue boxes are open and hence find what programme is hanging and stopping the restart.
This is what I found from dev_sleidy (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6670993&#6670993):

do shell script ("screencapture " & dFolder & tTime & ".png") -- Capture screen.
    delay 30 -- Wait for 30 seconds.
    end repeat
So far so good it works.
Now I want this file to be send per email to me, for which it first needs to be compressed, unless I send all the individual pictures which would also be fine as well.
How would I do this using mail?
I have broken my head over the script (I am not very good) to no avail. Any help out there?

  • In vsn 6.0.2 how can I paste a link into the body of a Yahoo e-mail and have the pasted result appear as a link?

    o/s Windows XP Home
    vsn of Firefox 6.0.2
    Step 1) open firefox
Step 2) copy link from address bar into clipboard
Step 3) compose message in Yahoo
Step 4) paste contents of clipboard into body of the e-mail
result: the pasted value does NOT become a hyperlink
<on same pc, with same contents in clipboard>
    Step 5) open IE
Step 6) compose message in Yahoo
Step 7) paste contents of clipboard into body of the e-mail
result: the pasted value becomes a hyperlink ... the fact that the link becomes a hyperlink in the IE browser makes me think that there may be something in the Firefox browser that is controlling whether the pasted value becomes a link.
I'm not sure, but I believe the update to firefox 6.0.2 was with the past few days.
I'm not sure, but I do not believe the symptoms from steps 1 - 4 were present a few days ago
    Questions:
    1) could this feature have been introduced in 6.0.2?
    2) I would prefer it if the pasted value would become a
hyperlink when working in firefox; what steps do I need to take to make this happen?
    Thank you

Now Tony, I know you can't hear my tone on a forum post but I was not complaining, simply stating facts . This change brought several people in my office to a grinding halt in a long established workflow that is really rather simple (and I thought was already assumed from the original post above ):
    1) Select a set of records in FileMaker Pro 12 and export only their e-mail addresses as a CSV file.
    2) Open that CSV file in Excel.
    3) Copy the column of e-mail address.
    4) paste into the appropriate recipient field in Mail.
    5) Send
If I were to complain it would be about Apple's typically opaque approach to updates. There is no granular explanation of why changes were made or even "what" changes were made.
Complaining is futile since Apple is Apple and is unlikely to change, but sometimes it is cathartic to "shout into the void" .
I had thought about doing something with a formula in Excel and your suggestion was simple and helpful. Again, however, it is only a workaround for a long established helpful behavior that Apple has inexplicably broken/removed in Mavericks Mail.
I, and the other posters here, would love to have the capability back rather than have to add previously unneeded steps to our workflows.
Ultimately we may add scripting steps to the FileMaker side to export the address lists with commas inserted already if Apple ends up having permanently removed this feature.

Yes... You are missing seeing the hundreds of other posts reporting the same issue.
The bottom line here is that eMail reporting is unreliable at best. If it works for you, count yourself lucky. Maybe even buy yourself a lottery ticket!
You really should consider using the forum search facility to locate reports of eMail issues with Captivate. You will likely be surprised.
You may wish to report it to Adobe as a bug.

  • Can't open pdf attachment in Yahoo Mail. Worked in 25.0 not 25.0.1. Still works with IE.

Clicking on a pdf attachment in AT&T/Yahoo Mail results in "a file was downloaded". Used to open the file in Firefox 25.0 and prior. Switching to IE I can click on the attachment and it opens. Seems it could be something in 25.0.1. I cleared my history (cache, cookies) but this did not fix the problem. I disabled the pdf viewed and that didn't help either.

i'm not sure as to what exactly is going on, but it looks like yahoo has changed something on their server that makes certain old url formats dysfunctional - at least quite a number of other users have reported that... so if you have a bookmark for yahoo mail, change its address to the generic https://mail.yahoo.com/, which should redirect you to the current & working url

I already use payloadSwapBean and messageTransformBean to swap the attachment for payload and to format the file.
Please do not send me endless links to anything email related !

Yes this is pretty much what I thought to do - my problem is what do I check in the UDF.  I need to get the "From" field into the header.  I see that you can do it if you check "Use Adapter Specific Message Attributes" and "Variable Transport Binding" then you have available in the header SHeaderFROM which you can then get in the mapping.  But we are on SP19 and we do not have "Variable Transport Binding" on the Sender Mail adapter - nor an advanced tab page - only an advanced mode check box and additional parameters.
So not sure how I can get the "From" field into mapping???  Any ideas anyone?

  • Notes from My iPhone 4 (Running iOS 5.1.1) Sync as Blank Files in Mail on 10.6.8

    Hi.
I have a perplexing problem that I have not seen discussed anywhere. With my iPhone 4, running iOS 5.1.1, syncing notes in Mail results in a stange blank Notes document appearing in the Notes sidebar in Mail. The Notes look like a yellow sheet of ruled paper, as they do on my iPhone, but they open to reveal no information other than their names.
Once opened, they disappear from my list of Notes, and upon the next sync via USB cable from my iPhone to my Mac, the notes also disapepar from the phone. When opened in Mail, the blank and useless no-longer-a-note Notes will not close unles I quit Mail. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. In Mail, I've tried both listing the Notes in the Inbox, and as their own separate group. Neither work.
The Notes never synced well with any of my iPhones, and are a real pain now. I've taken to doing what I did before the notes were syncable (in Tiger), and enter items in my Address book so that they last through syncing. I've also trashed the Mail .plist file and reconfigured Mail, but that had no affect.
Has anyone encountered this issue? It is beyond frustrating, particulalrly because Mail deletes the Notes. Thanks for any feedback. ;-)

Same here. It is a major flaw to have the sync process permanently delete material without any user input or notification.
