Increasing Server Memory

Hi All Expert,
I would like to ask, if we wan to increase SAP Server Memory (CIDBDI) is there any parameters need to adjust?
either OS / DB/ SAP Profile Parameters.
Im using SAP R/3 4.7 on HP-UX 11.31 and Oracle 10G Release 2.

This may also be caused by the filesystem cache of the operating system. As long as the system doesn't swap you're fine.

There is - but to use it you first need to know where you performance bottlenecks are, whether your "slow performance" is caused by the database, by the configuration or by memory. Just having the memory "in use" is not a key figure for an alledgedly "bad performance". If e. g. your database cache hitrate is 99 % it makes no sense to increase database caches, it won't help to get a faster system.
I would start with transcation ST03N (avg. dialog response time) and see where most time is used. I'd also check if the system is swapping (ST06). I'd also check the buffers in ST02.
There are too many factors influencing "performance" so there can't be general advise. If it would be that easy there wouldn't be the need to SAP services (Early Watch) to help to configure the system.

Application Server Memory Requirements from 4.6C to ECC 6.0

The projected physical memory increase for the Application servers from 46C to ECC6 appears to between 45% - 66%. This is based on the delta notes 517085, 752532, 778774 and 901070. It also appears from a presentation from Christian Oehler called "Transition and Upgrade to SAP ERP" to be the case.
I cannot find anything in the above referenced SAP notes that indicates where this additional memory is consumed, so I'm concerned SAP is factoring in new functionality and/or JAVA stack in this. Furthermore we have upgraded our HR system from 46C to ECC6 sometime ago and included JAVA and saw around a 20% memory increase.
We are doing a strictly technical upgrade and are not turning on new functionality at this point (no JAVA stack), we are also not increasing user population. Our Test Systems, which have production data volumes do not reflect any growth in this area, but we are not stressing it with user load.
Does anyone have an idea of what we could/should see given the nature of our upgrade? We are preparing for a 25% increase in App server memory, but not for 50% plus. We are not doing a sizing exercise since this is just a technical upgrade and the GLFU service has yet to start.
If anyone has any insight into what should be expected or what they have seen for memory requirements from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 Application Server sit would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,
More memory is required because ECC 6.0 is much more huge system than 4.6C. If you are planning to increase server memory by 25% only, than you can see performance problems if system will be heavyly used. But it depends mainly on number of WP and active users. 25-50% more memory is required if you are not installing J2EE addin afterwards. If you are planning to convert the database to Unicode, than you will need an additional memory....
It's not easy to say 25% will be enought or 50% is required, but I would suggest to go to 50% at least.

Upgrading Server Memory - Need to adjust Oracle DB Memory?

I have created a test database under Windows Server 2003 with 1GB of RAM. Now, we are planning to increase Server memory to 4GB. My question is, do I need to configure something on the Oracle DB? I am running Oracle 10G

If it is non tunable memory there is nothing much you can do..the code may consume a lot of memory....This has nothing to do with increasing the server memory
If you hit a insifficient-memory error a with pl/sql block with 1GB of memory, then you might not hit if the memory of the server in increased...
IF you want to say this as impact then i tend to agree it can impact ....Not realy flt most of the times...

How to increase the memory for my weblogic server in Jdeveloper 12.1.2.0.0 ?

So as my title says, i'm trying to increase the memory for my weblogic server in my windows 7 64 bit machine, with 8GB ram.
The values appear to be: JAVA Memory arguments: -Xms256m -Xmx512m -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
I've done some search from this forum and i've added this to my jdev.conf:
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=1536M (in this one i've only changed the value)
AddVMOption -Xmx1536M
AddVMOption -Xms1536M
And i've changed this: MEM_ARGS="-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m" in my startNodeManager.sh file
I'm still getting the same line in my server but i need to change the values since i'm not getting the server to run my application very well (it gets stucked in loading my databases and graphs) and i think it will continue untill i get a heap exception error.
Any ideas of how to change this?

I'm going to ask you another question and this one is quite important.
Whenever i run my project a couple of times, i'm not able to retrieve the page, it just gets stuck on loading.
It just stops the loading, like its a really really slow page. I'm not using a lot of rows in my database so i don't take to much memory but it doesn't load and i know everything is fine but i just added some graphs after testing it.
Do you know why?
In the console it says that everything is fine and shows the link for the page but it never loads completely until it gives a error because it does not respond in 600 seconds.
Strange right?

How to Increase the memory size of a File in the Application Server

I have generated a XML file for the data of internal table (with 10 Records). When i download , i can see the XML file for the Entire 10 Records.
But , while transferring the XML file to Applicationserver , it's transferring only upto max 4 Records.I     assume that the memory is insufficient to allocate 10 Records. Can we Increase the Memory size of the File on Application server. OR, is there any error in My Source Code.
Code i used to Transfer the XML File to Application server.

How to increase the memory in Event Server

I have this folowing error in the windows event observer (in french). The memory Event Server memory seems to be to small. (English message traduction : Insufficient memory in the Event Server"" ).

As Ankur said, there are not parameters for this setting.
Probably what you can do is, you can add this server to a defined server group.
Generally you can assign additional resources to a server group. That could probably help you to increase performance.

I want to increase my memory for oracle because i need to insert 31 billion rows into a table with nologging. I am inserting them chunk by chunk and commit after each chunk. But it is taking 62 hours to insert the rows. So i think if i increase the memory i could reduce the time to insert the rows.
I really am not sure whether i am thinking in the right way. Please advise. If i want to increase the memory please let me know how to increase it.

What is it supposed to do with your request to use 256m of memory for heap
when you are not giving it a class or a jar to run?

How to increase JVM memory for Web Logic 10.3.3 - OSB 11g

Hello folks,
I am running OSB 11g on WebLogic 10.3.3 to call some services passing large XMLs requests. These XMLs are something around 10mb each. Unfortunately, I got errors regarding memory.
I am using Eclipse with OSB plugin to develop, and I have configured the weblogic server to start up it from the eclipse, thus I don't need to start up through command line.
I would like to know where I can change the memory arguments to start up the JVM which runs the WebLogic server. As I am starting up the server from eclipse, I can't change the memory size args from command line.
Is there a file where those arguments are stored? or some configuration on WebLogic console which I can increase the Xms and Xmx ?
The JVM is jrockit_160_17_R28.0.0-679

Hi Davinod,
Yes, the correct place is to change the memory arguments in the "setDomainEnv.cmd", however can you confirm if the changed memory arguments were reflected in the logs or not.
If yes then you need to try to increase the memory arguments again and test which is the best working memory argument suitable for your environment, this would take some trials.
However if the memory arguments are still not reflected then try to set it properly as shown below:

10.10.1 I use sysctl.conf to increased shared memory. 10.10.1 does not read sysctl.conf anymore

I need to increase shared memory. In 10.10 is use /etc/sysctl.conf with a line kern.sysv.shmmax=16777216 and this works. Also in 10.9. But in 10.10.1 shared memory can no longer be increased from the default 4194304 by this means.
The question is simple: how in 10.10.1 does one increase kern.sysv.shmmax in a way that survives a re-boot

I have the same problem on my windows 2003 server but the
thing is that I have not been able to get the same error on any
other machine including a windows 2003 I installed on VMWare on the
same machine. I have narrowed down to where in the encoder this
happens. The encoder uses page file backed file maps to register
session information. The call to MapViewOfFileEx method of the
Win32 API fails with the "access denied" error. Whatever it is,
it's due to some defect in the Windows installation I have because
I do not get that message on any other windows installation even
the ones I do with the same windows CD !
I am still trying to find out what the defect might be but I
thought you should know it's got nothing to do with you Windows
make and model...it happens for me on 2k3 and for you on XP...so
you should looke elsewhere..

How to incress the WEBI Server Memory. On what paramters the Memory will depend on?

You cannot increase the amount of memory Webi can use. It can only use 2GB. At 1.6GB it's supposed to stop accepting requests until it can release some memory and start working again. Depending on your patch level, there is a bug that will prevent this from happenning.
You can, however, add additional Webi servers to your enterprise to handle more load. You can also reduce the number of Maximum Simultaneous Connections that each Webi server can handle to keep the memory cost lower for each server instance.

[9520] Server Memory is too low

Getting an error on our login page every once in awhile where it says [9520] Server memory is too low. New login requests are not allowed. Please contact your system Administrator. We added more ram to the VM running the server. I couldn't see anything about recommended ram settings unless I am missing something. We have GWIA, MTA and Webmail all running on the same box with 6GB of ram. Anybody have any recommendations?

Section 4.6 lists 4GB under recommended memory for best performance of
GWIA and its MTA with 4GB for WebAccess application. Given those two
added together equal 8GB and you're running on virtual machine I'd
suggest that you might want to increase the amount of memory available
to the VM.
Which OS is the server running and which virtualisation platform are you
hosting the VM on?

Hi All
when i try to open the webi report i get error
WEB INTELLIGENCE SERVER MEMORY FULL - ERROR (WIS -30280)
JAVA Deployment and XIR2 Edit the webi.properties file :
1) Go to windows explorer.
2) Go to C drive (or wherever your Tomcat is installed) c:\programfiles\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\classes\webi.properties
3) open this file webi.properties with a notepad and add MAX_HEAP_SIZE=1024000000 as the bottom most line of the file.
4) Save the file.
5) Restart the tomcat server and webi as well.
(This works for xir2 and this is not the permanent fix I guess)
For Xi3.0 : XI3.0-WEB INTELLIGENCE SERVER MEMORY FULL - ERROR (WIS -30280)
Cause
The error message appears because the Web Intelligence server stresses the memory resources when processing many reports containing a large amount of data.
Resolution
To resolve the error message, it is necessary to increase the memory heap size value. Complete these steps:
Click Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type "regedit" in the Open text field. Click OK. The Registry Editor appears.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager.
Click Subsystems > right-click Windows key > click Modify.
Edit the SharedSection value from 1024,3072,512 to 1024,3072,1024.
Also, set this to a value higher than the Web Intelligence Report Server connection time out value found in the Central Management Console. This value is written in minutes. The default value is 20.
Close the Registry Editor.
Restart the Web Intelligence Report Server for the changes to take effect.
So gurus please suggest for any alternative or permanent fix ,as this seems to be workaround.

Anybody has found any solution to this problem? The forum say in XIR2 we have to modify the webi.properties file in c:\programfiles\Tomcat\webapps\businessobjects\enterprise115\desktoplaunch\WEB-INF\classes\webi.properties to add MAX_HEAP_SIZE=1024000000 as the bottom most line of the file.
My first question is where can i find this file to add the parameter in XIR3.0? I have many webi.properties. Second question, is it the solution?

Server Memory statistics

I am tuning my BPEL server and I have increased the JVM memory from 256 to 2048 and restarted the app server. However when I go to Admin->Threads the section Server Memory statistics is still showing 256M.
I changed the values in the opmn.xml of the OC4J_BPEL container
Any ideas?

Hi,
If you need OS consumption at the OS level, you have to use ST06 and not ST02 which shows SAP buffers and extended memory.
You will be able to get only the lat 30 days of information.
If you want more, go in ST06 every month to collect the data and enter it in an Excel file to keep it as long as you need.
