Indesign cs5 and photoshop cs5 preferences installed as one.
I have Indesign cs5 and adobe photoshop cs5 extended installed in my copmputer. I see those two programs as the largest installed applications in my computer. I just wonder that maybe some of the preferences of Indesign cs5 and photoshop cs5 are the same. I am thinking that these files are the reason why the two applications are very large.
For example the Adobe Bridge cs5, i think that Adobe Bridge is installed two times in my computer. One from the installation of Indesign and one is from the Photoshop.
I just want to know if there is a way to install the two applications having their preferences installed once and both applications could use them. I think in that way i can save a free space in my hard drive. Any help would be much appreciated.
You cannot save space on your hard drive by combining portions of these programs, no.
Their "preferences" take up a very small fraction of the space used by these programs.
Furthermore, they already have an extensive set of common (shared) files that are used by both programs that are installed outside the program directories for each program.
Under Windows, that is C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe. For Mac, /Library/Application Support/Adobe.
But no.
Also, hard drives are incredibly cheap. If you're worried about the size of these programs, you are doing something wrong and you're not going to be able to use them efficiently anyhow. In particular, effective use of photoshop needs many more times the size of the program in free space.
It's probably time to go and out buy several hundred GB (or some TB) of space.

Very few of the programs are 64-bit at this point, and the installer should be able to tell the difference and load, for example, only the 32-bit version of Photoshop on a 32-bit system. ID is only 32-bit.
Try downloading the installers again, just to be sure they weren't damaged. I'd be tempted to run the clean tool, too, to remove any traces of the failed install (maybe run System restore, too). See Resolve installation problems with CS5 Cleaner Tool
I usually try to turn off all non-essential startups and services in MSconfig when an install fails this way, then reboot (This is as close as you can come to Safe Mode without being in Safe Mode -- the installers won't work in Safe Mode) and try again. -

InDesign has Issues.
Photoshop appears to be OK but a re-installation may be necessary. Run the CS Cleaner Tools below and PS uninstaller before attempting to re-install PS CS4.

Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop Freezing. Arrgggggghhhh!
Hi All,
I've recently installed Fusion 3 and now I'm having a diabolical problem with my Creative Suite. Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop (though less often the latter) freeze - not just after a sleep etc, but up to every 5 or 10 minutes. I am going absolutely CRAZY and am becoming extremely frustrated. I googled the issue and have read in many forums that Extensis and the latest Fusion 3 update is the source of the problem. At this stage I am forcing quit and reopening documents consistently. The interruption to my work, schedule and deadlines is creating intense stress. I installed Fusion 3 last week but it's only since yesterday that the freezing has become apparent and immediately unbearable.
Does anyone have any advice? I can't go on like this. If I dump Fusion 3 and unistall it, will my problems go away? Sure, I won't be able to manage my fonts very well, but considering the alternative I couldn't care less. Can anyone recommend an alternative font management program that doesn't send Adobe programs into a full meltdown?
Here are my stats;

Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Adobe Creative Suite 5

So I've unchecked it where I can.

When I try to do a CC update I get an U44M1I210 error message, "Update failed - Unable to extract the downloaded files. Press retry to download again. (U44M1I210)" - help please - re-downloading makes no difference, applies to latest Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop CC, others seemed to update without problems. I can see the disk image files in AAMUpdater folder but they will not open and come up with "couldn't be opened - resource busy" message.
Yes Jeff, I did all those several times to no avail.
I've included a small error snippet from two installs here. In Creative Cloud when updating the Apps, all 3 get to 50%, then the failure occurs. Retrying starts at 50% and fails the same way each time.
This first one is a segment from the Indesign updater - I have always had the all hard drive folders with read and write privileges allowed and I checked again, this is still the case so I do not know why this particular error message is arising. The second snippet if from the Illustrator update.

I need to give a presentation to some beginners and thought a video would be good to keep the audience engaged and have the three things explained. I need to give the presentation in 2 days so quick solutions will be great.

Can I upgrade to inDesign CS5 WITHOUT installing Pagemaker 6.5 plus?
I'm on Windows Vista 64 and I need inDesign CS5. Since Vista won't let me install my Pagemaker 6.5 plus, I was wondering if I can just input the licence from Pagemaker.
ThanksIt means that there is more than one upgrade. You can upgrade from earlier versions of InDesign or from Pagemaker. These have the same price but if you buy the InDesign upgrade from earlier versions of InDesign it won't accept your PM serial number.
You need to buy the correct PM to InDesign upgrade package which will prompt you for a Pagemaker serial number when installing.

Actually, there are currently some applications like this.
Take a look at DAWs. They deal with recorded audio (similar to bitmap) and MIDI (like vector) at the same time.
And if you are looking for a visual stuff you can check SideFX Houdini. They have several contexts for dealing with the data: 3d models (sops), various input data (chops), compositing context (you can do image color correction, layering etc.), shader context, programming, rendering contexts etc. And you can have each of them any place you want. This + the fully procedural approach makes Houdini one of its kind application that gives you endless possibilities to build complex effects, models and animations. You can even build your own tools, like city generating assets (as seen in Inception or 2012 movies). You can even write music and manipulate robots in this app (if you want to).
So it is totally possible to fuse those apps together. Certainly it is a huge amount of work. But think of it: you now have to install Phantasm to apply Curves or Hue/Saturation in Illustrator, you have inner shadow in InDesign and Photoshop but not in Illustrator, you have good Paragraph and Character styles in InDesign but half-assed in PS and Illustrator, also grids, object styles, link management and so on. Wouldn’t it be great to have everything at once? Like in Houdini? You choose image and you can do what can be done with raster, you choose text and context changes to show what can be done with text. On Mac OS X and Windows, it's possible to easily switch from one OPEN/ACTIVE/RUNNING application to another, with a simple keystroke shortcut.
So, in a sense, the tools are in one's toolbelt, ready for use, now. Or, from another view, the tools are in the equivalent of a Swiss Army Knife (SAK,) but not quite. Actually, it's usually awkward to switch from one SAK tool to another - depending on where they're located on the SAK body, some combinations of tools can be open at the same time. For example, the corkscrew, awl, or Phillips screwdriver can be open on the back, while a file, scissor, or eating utensil can be open on one or the other end of the front. The user can orient the SAK one way or another to use an open tool. A few tools can be removed, like the tweezer and toothpick, so there's a tad more flexibility.
The multiple Creative Suite applications can be open at the same time. However, if the computer lacks sufficient resources, there's an awkward delay in switching from one application to another, while resources scramble to meet the users' requests.
Perhaps the understood but unstated wish is that the tools were more-efficiently integrated, so that switching from one set of functions to another within an integrated application, would demand less from the resources, compared to the current model of switching from one standalone application to another.
It's a fascinating wish. However, wish with care. Some SAKs used to have lifetime warranties. "If it breaks, we'll replace it." The problem is that when the broken item is returned, the user is without all the tools during the replacement. In the integrated-application model, the analog is when a bug hits, fixing it will require testing the complement of integrated applications to verify that the fix didn't break something somewhere else. Hence, users may be stuck with the buggy version longer, before a fix can be developed, tested, and certified.
As hardware continues becoming ever-more powerful, eventually, pauses due to switching among independent applications will be less and less annoying.

Cannot run InDesign CS or Photoshop CS after install
I have installed photoshop cs and InDesign CS onto my iMac on Mac OS X 10.3.9. They have installed fully and I have entered the serial numbers in and they have been authorised. The folder then appears in my HD:Applications as normal. However, when I try and open photoshop or image ready it just acts like something is going to happen but nothing does - no response from the computer however long you wait. Why is this happening? Similar thing with InDesign, but it actually starts opening with the main InDesign screen and then unexpectadly quits - every time. Can someone help me on this please.

Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop wont update
I'm trying to use the Folio Builder in InDesign CS6 but when I access the panel it says updates are required. I went to Help>Updates and it says : "The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or the Internet or firewall settings may be incorrect." It's been doing this with all my Adobe programs for about a month. I've downloaded the 4 updates off the Adobe site manually for InDesign CS6 and still nothing has changed. I don't know what to change in the Internet/firewall settings or why I even have to. Also I did not download the actual programs off the Adobe site, I purchased a box set at a local store.

I have been trying to update my Illsutrator, Extension Manager, and Photoshop.
I have tried about five time using different methods.
Each time I received the following error message:

PaulWhilst this may prove to be the only way to install the updates, it reads as though it only takes a few minutes to complete but as others have reported it's a real pain to have to go all through a clean up and then full installation particularly if you have a number of plugins to re-install / activate! Not the best solution and I would have hoped Adobe could have come up with a better solution. As it is I will not be going through the update and will set the application manager to manual rather than have the icon constantly on displayed in the taskbar expecting to update what doesn't work.
