Infinity 'free' upgrade

So, I got a l letter from BT today saying that they were going to upgrade my broadband (currently option 2) to infinity for free.
Quote: "There will be no change to your existing contract term or charges - the amount you pay will remain the same."
Great I thought, I've been holding off switching due to the fact that they can't offer me any discount (at all, let alone matching the discount I get now) so now I can go for free.
However, because I was due to renew my term, I didn't want it renewing on the normal (infinity) price so gave them a call to see what would happen.
Well it turns out that the letter is VERY wrong and if I switched I would get no discount at all (just like before)!
So it seems like it was a generic letter sent to all customers on certain options ignoring any sort of discount.  Wonderful move as I'm sure once you signed up you'd never be able to go back.
Now, I got a usual apology about it and renewed on my usual option 2.  However, I suggest that BT sort out the wording on this letter, (or maybe it's intentionally misleading?) as it's certainly not what it says.
Just a word of warning to others who may have got this letter.

Thanks for the info. DS started a thread about this very issue as well.

  • BT infinity free upgrade?

    Hello,
I'm currently using BT broadband option 2, which is 40gb of usage per month. I noticed the upgrade to the 40gb usage for BT infinity is currently the same price, and on the BT infinity website it mentions that anyone with a 40gb or greater package will get a free upgrade to BT infinity when it reaches your area.
    I'm wondering
    1. How you go about getting this upgrade? Whats the implications of it etc.
    2. How much is needed to be installed? Currently my home hub sits about 15 metres away from my main phone socket.
    3. Will wireless devices connected to the home hub work at the increased speeds?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
1: Double check on http://www.bt.com/infinity to check that infinity is available for your phone line. Either proceed from there or contact customer services on 150.
2: In the simplest case your master socket will need it's front changing or the Master socket replacing. A white Openreach VDSL modem will be provided which plugs into the master socket, a HH3 will plug into the Openreach VDSL modem. The Openreach engineer has the ability to move the master socket if necessary. However, the HH3 can be located up to 30m away from the VDSL modem with a free data extension kit. It's all explained fairly well on http://www.bt.com/infinity and there are some excellent pictures of an install here:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/BT-Infinity-Installation-Log/m-p/101355
3: Wireless devices may work at higher speeds. It depends on so many factors (whether you are using Wireless N, whether you have inteference, how far away your devices are etc.) People often report that their wireless speeds aren't much cop, but it's usually down to Interference. If unsure, always use CAT 5e/6 cable and ethernet. I have great success with Homeplugs and Infinity, but other people do not. It's a difficult question to sum up in a nutshell.
    Hope this helps,

  • Shouldn't I have a free upgrade to hub 5?

I have been on Infinity 2 for a long time and have the hub 4. When my contract came near the end around 3 months ago I got a call from BT during which they recontracted me for another 12 months, however, they failed to mention that I was eligible for a free upgrade to the new hub 5. Although I get great wirelkess speeds when I am in the same room as the hub, the connection becomes iffy even when I am only one floor up and regularly drops connection when I play an online game (which rarely happens when I am in the same room as the hub). The internal walls of the house are regular wooden panels, nothing that should breakdown wireless signal.
I've read good reviews of the new hub and was wondering if it would greatly improve wireless range. To be fair, I can get connection even when I am on the top floor (a floor further up) but when you are connected to Infinity and also have supposedly good hub (hub 4), you really should be able to use wireless devices anywhere in the house or garden without breakages.

BT do not offer the hub automatically, and you may have to pay something towards it.
Wireless is unlikely to be any better on the HH5, and some people say its worse. You would be best using either an Ethernet cable, or broadband extenders.

Wireless is not reliable enough for gaming.

  • Being messed around regarding free upgrade of BT I...

I received a letter from BT just after i'd renewed for another 12 months, offering me Infinity for no extra charge
I spoke to 5 people who advised as the letter states "no extra charge" that I won't lose my loyalty discount....I've got a feeling I will lose it...if I do I will get it back, i'll make sure of it
However, I rang to place the order, and was told i'd get a call back within 72 hours to sort out an install date...i'm still waiting, despite promises of repeated call backs, and not receiving these
Whats the point of making a show of a free upgrade, when BT can't actually deliver, I know engineers are busy and there's going to be a big uptake, but for gods sake, why can't I be given a date, even it is for a month or so away
I'm tempted to tell BT to cancel everything and go to EE for 14mb broadband same as what I get now, for £5 plus £14 line rental
Better than the £14 plus £15.45 i'm paying now

If you would like to contact one of the UK based BT Care Team who moderate this forum, they should be able to help you.
They can be contacted using this link BT Care Team
They normally respond by phone or e-mail, within three working days, however you should get an immediate confirmation, with a tracking number.

I just got iphone 5c and i am not happy with it. It uses to much data and i don't even know how. I can't get the ringtones i want for my contacts.I got it on my free upgrade but i want to take it back and get something else but where i got it they say i can't because i don't have the earbuds and i have serches or them. now i am suck with a phone i don't like at all until my next upgrade. this is very dishearten

    1. If you are this unhappy with that phone, and the lost earbuds is the only thing stopping you from taking it back, why do not just buy some earbuds. That way you can get rid of that phone. It all depend upon how much you want to get rid of that phone.
    2. Yet if you are stuck with that iPhone, here is something might help you to control the data usage. By design, iPhones do turn off WiFi when they go dormant. So if a download is in progress and so forth when the phone goes dormant, it will switch to use cellular data, if this setting is left on. Therefore, from multi-sources I have learned that if you keep your iPhone connected to a power source, then it will stay connected to the available WiFi.

  • Free Upgrade from iPhoto 09 (Version 8.1.2)?

I'm confused on the new policy on iPhoto '11.
Here's my situation:  Early 2009 iMac, running Mavericks.  I have iPhoto 09 (Version 8.1.2) installed on the computer.
Based on this from Macrumors, it seems that I should be able to upgrade for free to the latest iPhoto.  http://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/24/apple-offering-free-updates-to-all-users-of- aperture-iwork-and-ilife-not-worried-about-unethical-users/
Or this free upgrade for those users that already have iLife 11 installed?
Thanks and I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse here.

The free upgrade is for those who already have iPhoto 11 installed. You'll need to pay I'm afraid.

  • CS5.5 to CS6 free upgrade - Why can't I get a disk?

I have been trying to convince someone in support at Adobe that we would like a hard copy disk of the CS5.5 to CS6 free upgrade, however they keep sending me a link to Creative Cloud even though I have talked to customer support until I am blue in the face that our IT department wants a hard copy to use for my download?    We purchased the hard copy of CS5.5.   Can I pay the $20 charge for the hard copy?

I purchased 5.5 and am looking to get the complimentary CS6 upgrade.   Customer service for some odd reason do not want to discuss how to obrtain a disk.  Last time they sent me a link to Creative Cloud ...... for what reason I do not know, except maybe this is where you can download from the internet.   Our download is too slow and I need a disk.

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • Free upgrade for purchase within a few days?

    I came across this today.
    http://www.redmondpie.com/apple-slashes-price-of-macbook-pro-with-retina-display -updates-processors/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ RedmondPie+%28Redmond+Pie%29
So if I purchased a Macbook 15" Retina Display a few days ago and Apple announces an upgrade, can I take my Macbook to the retail store and get a free upgrade too?

To go along with Clinton post if you just bought the system, AT the Regular Price, you have 14 days to return it for a Full Refund and then get the Newer Updated Version.
But there are No Upgrades that can be done to YOUR Current system. You have to Return it for Refund then But another one with the newer upgrades.
So As Usual the people at the Apple store, if that is where you called (A real Apple Store), have no Clue what they are talking about.
There are NO Upgradeable parts in a Retina Model Macbook Pro.

  • Who to free upgrade HP Compaq 6730s Notebook from vista to Windows 7 ???

hello ,  i read an artical in hp website that hp give free upgrade to windows 7 the problem is the link givin in the artical to do that not working eny more ,  HP Offers Customers Free Upgrade to Microsoft Windows 7  and i see this offer for the first time , so who can i get a free upgrade from vista to windows 7   i just need the  new free windows 7 serial i can download the windows 7 iso file. and thank you.

That offer has long ago expired. You will either have to buy Windows 7 or newer and then be eligible for Windows 10 free upgrade, starting July 29th, 2015.  It says that free upgrade to Windows 10 is available for a year.

  • HP not honoring free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

When I purchased my machine in February 09 with Vista home edition I was promised on the web site and by the sales clerk that I would receive a free upgrade to Windows 7. Now I am told that only machines purchased after June 09 will qualify. I am furious and will not settle for this. Does anyone else have this issue.

Look you might have understood them wrong or you're saying something that they didn't say. They might have told you that there is going to be a free upgrade program for Windows 7 closer to when Windows 7 launches and thought you could get it when you bought it or you just want to accuse HP that they said that you would have the W7 Upgrade for free so you can get the upgrade. You should have looked for an official confirmation from Microsoft for the free upgrade from vista to W7, http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/06/25/announcing-the-windows-7-upgrade-option-program-amp-windows-7-pricing-bring-on-ga.aspx This link was released on June 25, 2009 and officially says that the free upgrade program was going to start on June 26, 2009 and this is directly form the Windows Blog. You made a mistake of listening to people and not looking for the official Microsoft Announcement. Your out of luck. Microsoft did this with xp to vista when vista came out and it was around the same months as vista to W7, so you should have also looked for past free upgrade. On February, Windows 7 date hasn't even been announced and the beta was still in progress as posted here on February 2009 http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/23/general-availability-for-the-windows-7-beta-to-end.aspx   So this goes back to the top, you should have looked at past free upgrades like xp to vista to check how many months before they will start the free upgrade program.
