can we load data from infocube to ODS? if so, how?
if not, why?

Hi,
Yes, you can. Right Click on the InfoCube and then Generate Export DataSource -> Create update rule by right clicking on the ODS and then do the transformation -> Create InfoPackage under 8InfoCube and load the data.

      Infocubes?ODS?Multiprovider?Infoset?
In our design stage we had no problem creating ODS and Cube's but as our requirements kept changing we had to create Infosets rather than Multicubes as we were not having common fields between Cube and ODS. Secondly we couldn't have cubes as Infosets are built between ODS and Infoobjects.
      Can someone throw some light on the performance issues based on our current design were we have ODS and Infosets built. What are the pros and cons between
1) InfoCubes and ODS
2) MultiCubes and Infosets
      Any kind of thoughts would be of great help in our analysis.

We has the same requirements ...and had to build a lot of info sets ....
Reporting on any of the Navigational Attributes is NOT possible on an Info Set.
Go to RSRT and look on what fields on which the query is doing a Sequential read...if required try to build indexes on that fields.
In some cases we cannot restrict the queries ...if you are queering on yearly reports ...running against InfoSet's is not at all recommended......
For better performance of your queries try to build secondary indexes and as far as possible try to avoid InfoSet ....BW 3.5 has ADP try to workout something on that if u are on 3.5.
For performance try to compress your request in your cubes on your BP.

There is no transaction code as such as you have to use the front-end application to create queries off your Cubes/ ODS.
open Bex query designer -> select info provider (cube or ods) -> drag and drop the keyfigures in columns, -> char in rows -> save.

To find tables for any infoprvider go to SE11.
In database table field enter the following
Cube -
Has fact table and dimension table
For customized cube - ie cube names not starting with ' 0 '
Uncompressed Fact table - /BIC/F<infocubename>
Compressed fact table - /BIC/E<infocubename>
Dimension table - /BIC/D<infocubename>
For standard cube - ie cube names starting with ' 0 '
Uncompressed Fact table - /BI0/F<infocubename>
Compressed fact table - /BI0/E<infocubename>
Dimension table - /BI0/D<infocubename>
Click on display.
For DSO,
For standard DSO active table- /BI0/A<DSO name>00.
You use 40 for new table.
Click on display.
For customized DSO use- /BIC/A<DSO name>00.
An easier way is in the database table field, write the name of the cube/DSO preceeded and followed by ' * ' sign. Then press F4 . It shall give you the names of the available table for that info provider.
Double click on the name and choose display.

Error During Load Infocube from ODS

Hi guys i hae an infocube and an ODS i load data to the ODS directly from SAP and its OK but i have an error when i try to load data from ODS to infocube, i`ve created an update rule from ODS to infocube theres an error in the load request "Load Request is invalid" i try to load to infocube from ODS in many ways Full, Init Delta but i have the same error in all of them.....i need to do something before or i need to change in any way the data targets.....
I hope somebody could help me with this.......

HI,
Activate the data in ur ODS. Then right click on ur ODS n choose "create export datasource". Now right click ur ODS and go to "Manage" and make sure that the QM status is green and the Datamart status is checked with a green mark. Now carry on the load from ODS to infocube.

Infocube and ODS populated with DATA (need to add one more field?)

If infocube and ODS have been populated with data for past 3 months. Then we need to add one more field to this cube. What is the impact? Please advise.
The following is my understanding. Please correct me if I am wrong.
1) Need to delete content of ODS and infocube.
2) insert the new field at ODS and infocube.
3) reload the data into ODS and infocube.
Is there a way that the current data need not be deleted.
Just add in this new field and only subsequent month, infocube will have this new field? Please advise what is the best approach without affecting existing data.

Hi,
Siggi is right. You dont need to delete the previously loaded data to CUBE or ODS. The only catch is that, your new field will be empty as far as history is concerned. But so long as you did map it to the datasource and the datasource is able to fill it up, then your new field will now have value for incoming DELTA Updates.
Addition of a field is not that complicated compared to deletion of a field from CUBE or ODS.

Multiprovider on top of Infocube and ods

I'm just wondering, I would like to create an Multiprovider on top of infocube and ods. While creating multirovider I can able to see my infocube but in ODS tab I'm not getting ODS which I need to consider.
I've gone through all available ODS's in ODS tab while creating Multiprovider but my ODS is coming here.
I'm working on BW 3.5 Version.

Just check weather u have any keyfigur in ur DSO or not. If not just add one keyfigur in your ODS and activate it and then try to look for it in multiprovider.

InfoCube to ODS data load

Hi all,
I have created an ODS from an InfoCube. Now, I am trying to
load data from InfoCube to ODS using export DataSource.
I am getting an error while defining the update rule on
ODS.
"0RECORDMODE is missing from the InfoSource"
How can I add 0RECORDMODE in this situation? Any other solutions?

Hi,
1. You need to add few fields to your ODS - you can do it as long as added fields are not key fields.
2. So you add the fields - now these fields are empty & you need to populate these with some history data, which I believe resides in Source system, so question is how to populate these?
3. delete the ODS data, delete the intialization (in infopackage- need to do it before reintitalizing) & do the intialization again.. (you also need to delete date of the connected cubes...be careful that you delete req of this ODS only not the other in case connceted with this cube) but there are 3 million records so my advice would be do the intital without data & take history data by putting in some selection paratmeter in Infopackage.
<b>And to the Cube --> take these to cube as well.</b>
note. i think you can add new char and create new dimension and assign new char to the new dimension, but historical data for that char won't exist

Can we Run the same Query on Infocube and ODS?

There is an ODS A, Currently Query_ABC is created on the ODS A,
The InfoObjects available in the ODS A are also available in the INFOCUBE B.
I want to delete the ODS A, So can we create the Query_ABC on INFOCUBE B.
If so, should i create the Query from scratch or is there any other way to copy the Query_ABC from ODS A to INFOCUBE B.

HI,
Actually, Structures appear to be "Global" only within a specifi InfoProvider. If you are using RSZC then you are copying betwee providers, so I would expect that the copy may be having a problem wit the internal ID's associated to the Cells, which are probably derive based on the ID's of the rows and columns.
Since the Structures don't exist in the destination, or don't have the sam ID's then these pieces cannot be rebuilt in the copied query.
You could try this to get around having to rebuild:
1) In your source query make a copy in the same provider and remove the Ro and/or Column Named structure references (you don't delete the structure just make the query so it doesn't reference it). You do this b right-clicking on the structure name in the query, and chose the optio 'Remove reference'. This will make your query as if these details wer built directly in the query. Save this revised query.
2) Copy the revised query to your destination. Since all components wil contain internal ID's without reference to any external component (Structures) it should be able to copy everything.
You can then re-save the Row and/or Column definitions as structure associated to the destination InfoProvider, if you wish.

Infocube or ODS and abt Calender days

1. I have a question regarding summarising data.. In reality we summarise data by week or month or by any chracteristic values.. Can anyone tell me which Object ODS or Infocube is best for summarising data.?
2. My client wishes to move to normal calender from Fiscal/Factory Calender. Has anyone done that before.?. what are the impacts we may face and hwo can we overcome this???? Where can i start so that i have least impacts.??

HI DVMC,
To summarize records based on Time or Normal Characteristics value it will be best to use cubes rather than ODS. When user prefer detail level of data they will be going for ODS if they want summarized historical data than they will be going for reports build on cube I mean to say that Cube will contain summarized data while ODS contain Detail data.
Most of the companies will use Factory calendar rather than normal calendar because the fiscal period of each company differs. When Normal calendar changes to Factory calendar than fiscal period start, fiscal variant will be changing for example: In my company fiscal period starts in May and end in April so Fiscal variant is 05(May) and Fiscal period 001/2005 is June 2005 etc...Let me know if u have any questions.

URGENT : ERROR 18 while updating the Infocube from ODS....

We got the data into BW from MS SQL. There are 19 Datasources and we used views for all. Using 19 child ODS objects we updated 3 Parent ODS Objects.
Now we have to update the 3 ODS objects data to the InfoCube. When we try to Update its giving the error
"ERROR 18 in the Update" and some hexadecimal error message in the data, but we can only find the error like IV hexavalue inbetween the words(the InfoObject data type is CHAR) and in some errors we cannot find any mistake. It is just like normal text.
What could be the problem ?

let us say..
1. Check in RSKC for allowed characters..
2. Add a code in the update rule to restrict the texts contains..
!"%&''()*+,-./:;<=>?_0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ' are allowed characters in RSKC transaction then other than the above character is 'Invalid' including the smaller case letters and will throw the hex.. error.
since this is from database system even 'NULL' datatype from there is not visble to the eyes and can cause the failure.
