Infocube or ODS and abt Calender days

Hi Experts,
1. I have a question regarding summarising data.. In reality we summarise data by week or month or by any chracteristic values.. Can anyone tell me which Object ODS or Infocube is best for summarising data.?
2. My client wishes to move to normal calender from Fiscal/Factory Calender. Has anyone done that before.?. what are the impacts we may face and hwo can we overcome this???? Where can i start so that i have least impacts.??

HI DVMC,
To summarize records based on Time or Normal Characteristics value it will be best to use cubes rather than ODS. When user prefer detail level of data they will be going for ODS if they want summarized historical data than they will be going for reports build on cube I mean to say that Cube will contain summarized data while ODS contain Detail data.
Most of the companies will use Factory calendar rather than normal calendar because the fiscal period of each company differs. When Normal calendar changes to Factory calendar than fiscal period start, fiscal variant will be changing for example: In my company fiscal period starts in May and end in April so Fiscal variant is 05(May) and Fiscal period 001/2005 is June 2005 etc...Let me know if u have any questions.

ODS and Infocube showing different results

Hi,
I loaded same data to Infocube and ODS but they are both showing different result in BEX.
ODS
ODS report is showing summarised values e.g
vendor               order value                   invoice value        date
00001                    20                               20                 01.01.2007
Infocube
result is showing not summarised values
vendor               order value                   invoice value        date
00001                    20                                 0                      0
                              0                                20                  01.01.2007
I would like to make the infocube result same as the ODS because I am remodelling so that we start reporting from Infocube rather than ODS.

this is the scenario
currently we are reporting from ODS object which fetch data from 3 ODSes. now I am asked to remodel so that we can report from infocube not ODS.
steps I have taken so far.
- created new infocube
- created 3 update rules ( same Update rules that gives the reporting ODS data).
my target is to make sure that the current ODS report is the same as the infocube report but so far the report is not consistent
I compared the data in the ODS and infocube and they are exactly the same but the report is showing differently

Current date as deafult for Calender Day and user entry

Hello All,
There is a select option for Calender Day for a BW query.
This Calender Day should have a default as Current Date and User entry is also possible.
I have used a Customer exit and written the following code under i_step = 1
data: v_currdt like sy-datum.
clear: v_currdt, vfl_range.
         if i_step = 1.
          vfl_range-sign = 'I'.
          vfl_range-opt = 'EQ'.
          v_currdt = sy-datum.
          vfl_range-low = v_currdt.
          append vfl_range to e_t_range.

Please inform if this code is incorrect, because I am not able to see the date at all.

You receive information on all requests that have run in the InfoCube and you can delete requests if required.

Request ID you can find in administration of the InfoCube. If a cubes is compressed you can't delete requestwise...

Deltas on ODS and Infocube

Hi All,
i need information on how to do deltas on ods. i did two full uploads for ods 0fiar_o03 and then infocube. i need to do delta for this ods and cube. Please give me the steps to do delta for ods and infocube.

How are you doing the full load to ODS 0FIAR_O03. Are you giving any selection criteria.
In order start pulling Delta to the ODS you need to do a Full repair request or else you need to delete the full load requests from ODS and reload using Initialization.
Anways you are loading full load request in to the ODS, so it would be better to load Init Load next time and then start picking up deltas.
Delta to the Infocube is easily possible, by selecting Init in ODS after deleting all the data from the infocube. After that only the delta records from change log will be taken to the Cube from the ODS.
The delta to the cube can be performed irrespective of whether you performa Full load or Delta load in to the ODS.

Total number of records loaded into ODS and in case of Infocube

i loaded some datarecords from Oracle SS in ODS and Infocube.
My SOurceSytem guy given some datarecords by his selection at Oracle source system side.
how can i see that 'how many data records are loaded into ODS and Infocube'.
i can check in monitor , but that not correct(becz i loaded second , third time by giving the ignore duplicate records). So i think in monitor , i wont get the correct number of datarecords loaded in case of ODS and Infocube.
So is there any transaction code or something to find number records loaded in case of ODS and Infocube .

I went into ODS manage and see the 'transferred' and 'added' data records .Both are same .
But when i total the added data records then it comes 147737.
But when i check in active table(BIC/A(odsname)00 then toal number of entries come 1,37,738
why it is coming like that difference.......
And in case of infocube , how can i find total number of records loaded into Infocube.(not in infocube).
Like any table for fact table and dimension tables.

Problem creating a join in a MultiCube between an ODS and an InfoCube

Hi there,
I have a MultiCube that I am trying to Build a Report from. The MultiCube links together an ODS and an InfoCube.
The difficulty I am running into is that the ODS contains Document Change Data and Header Level Data and the InfoCube holds data for example GL Account at Item Level.
The join has not been properly configured as the report is skewed - the Identification in the MultiCube is correct - but the Join options are very limited.
Has anyone come across a solution to a similar problem - i.e. where you have to link together two sets of related data at different Levels of Granularity - preferably without using an InfoSet (for reporting reasons)?

When I am creating a row in tableC I am using existing value of TableA idA in refIdTableA (so there is the value on master table) , while I want that other attributes of TableC are editable.
The associations that links tableA --> tableC and tableB-->tableC are composition association optimize for database cascade delete, Lock top-level container.
I don't know what is the right way to realize it... declarative? programmatically? if programmatically, how can implement it? using tableAEOImpl.java, or tableAVOImpl.java or myAppModuleImpl.java?
I have tried in a declarative way: using the createWithParams of tableC, passing as parameter the value of refIdTableA (I have this value because I am in a master/detail), but when I click on it, I have this error:
Impossibile to find or invalidate the property entity: entity TableCEO, row Key oracle.jbo.Key[-158 ]. oracle.jbo.InvalidOwnerException
I think I have this error because I have two composition relationship on TableC. Is there a solution? I need both two composition relations

You could do a selective deletion, by specifying the filter values, so that you only delete a subset of the entire data. You could then do a re-load for the same selection so that there is no duplication of records.
This is on the assumption, that your incorrect data is due to some incorrect update or transfer rules, which you have now corrected (before the re-load).

Multicube with a ODS and a infocube

I have done a multicube with ods and infocubo. Ods and infocubo has equal and different characteristics. My problem is that when I'm doing query on the multicube, doesn´t load the data of the ods. Knows somebody the reason?

Like Bhanu said...check if you have included any KF from the ODS in your query. If the answer is YES, but still the data of ODS is not being loaded...then check the identification of the characteristics in the identification tab of the MP. Make sure they are identified properly. For the characteristics that exist both in the cube and the ODS....make sure you identify from both the sources.

Consider a scenario where gives detailed description:
There are three main steps to the entire data process:
step1:
Loading the data into BW and storing it in the PSA
The data requested by BW is stored initially in the PSA. The PSA is a transparent database table, in which data is saved, per request, in the format of the transfer structure. A PSA is created for each DataSource and each source system. The PSA is the storage location for incoming data in BW. Requested data is saved, unchanged, to the source system.
Processing and storing the data in ODS Objects.
In the second step, the ODS Objects are used on two different levels.
In level 1, the data from an InfoSource from several source systems is stored in ODS objects. This allows data to be saved in a consolidated way in the technical format of BW. The transfer rules cleanse the data from the source system-dependent data format of the PSA. In level 1, the data is stored at document level (for example, orders and deliveries) and constitutes the consolidated database for further processing in BW. Reporting is therefore not usually carried out on the ODS objects at this level.
In level 2, transfer rules subsequently combine the data from several ODS objects into a single ODS object in accordance with business-related criteria. The data is very detailed, for example, information such as the delivery quantity, the delivery delay in days, and the order status, are calculated and stored per order item. Level 2 is used specifically for operative reporting issues, for example, which orders are still open from the last week. Unlike OLAP reporting, where very large quantities of data are selected, here data is displayed and analyzed selectively.
Storing data in the InfoCube
In the final step, the data is aggregated from the ODS object on level 2 into an InfoCube, meaning in this scenario, that the InfoCube does not contain the order number, but saves the data on a customer, product, and month level. OLAP reporting using the BEx Query is also run on this data. You can still display the detailed document data from the ODS object whenever you need to. Use the Report/Report Interface from a BEx query. In this way, you are able to analyze the aggregated data from the InfoCube, and target the specific level of detail you want to access in the data

      Infocubes?ODS?Multiprovider?Infoset?
In our design stage we had no problem creating ODS and Cube's but as our requirements kept changing we had to create Infosets rather than Multicubes as we were not having common fields between Cube and ODS. Secondly we couldn't have cubes as Infosets are built between ODS and Infoobjects.
      Can someone throw some light on the performance issues based on our current design were we have ODS and Infosets built. What are the pros and cons between
1) InfoCubes and ODS
2) MultiCubes and Infosets
      Any kind of thoughts would be of great help in our analysis.

We has the same requirements ...and had to build a lot of info sets ....
Reporting on any of the Navigational Attributes is NOT possible on an Info Set.
Go to RSRT and look on what fields on which the query is doing a Sequential read...if required try to build indexes on that fields.
In some cases we cannot restrict the queries ...if you are queering on yearly reports ...running against InfoSet's is not at all recommended......
For better performance of your queries try to build secondary indexes and as far as possible try to avoid InfoSet ....BW 3.5 has ADP try to workout something on that if u are on 3.5.
For performance try to compress your request in your cubes on your BP.

Data not matching for a key figure in ODS and In CUBE.

There is one key figure ( Net Units) where in the data is not matching in ODS and in CUBE for only one particular fiscal week (200714)but for the rest of the weeks its matching.
The data is first loaded in to ODS and from there in to CUBE and the source is from flat file.
The cubes are not compressed .so I checked the DB aggregation in the field selection for output screen but still its not matching .( based on the infocube addition property some times if a file is loaded multiple times it adds up in the infocube so when the cubes are not compressed we manually select this option) .
What might be the possible cause for this ???

HI,
By any chance if you have loaded same the delta twice into the cube, then there might be the chance of the corrupt data. SO identify the lowest level of document where u can identify the difference.I mean if possible 0calday wise or document leve wise or sales org wise etc. and try to find out where is the difference. Then check in the change log of the oDS, whether the request has gone into cube twice. last option is selectively delete the data from the cube for the week and load a full repair from the ODS for that week.

How to update a register in an ODS and in a cube

I have a regsiter in my ODS, but when his status change in r/3 i have to update the register. When i load the delta it send's me a mistake that i have duplicate registers. How can I avoid thsi mistake instead to update the status, and how do i make the the update to the infocube that feeds the ODS in order that this update can be seen in the cube

That's why it's failing when you're trying to load a record with the same key...
If you want to reflect the changes, uncheck this property in the ODS and make sure you assign ' ' (New Image) to 0RECORDMODE in your Transfer Rules... That way you'll be able to catch the changes without that error...
