Infoobjects for flatfile

Hi All,
I have to load data from a flat file. I am trying to find the stadard infoobjects which I can use to build my ODS and cube to store this data. I have managed to find some but with diff lengths i.e longer than the field size. For ex: the Material number coming from the file will be of 12 char whereas the 0MATERIAL is 18 and the incoming order number is of 6 char length whereas the Order number in BW is of 10 char length. Can I use these standard IOs as they are longer than the required length? Will it create any problem?
I also have some key figures in the file for ex, Quantity whose length in the file is given as Decimal 18,0. Can I use the standard 0QUANTITY for this? What is the length of 0QUANTITY?

Especially when you are uploading Hist. data, that you will need to compare with actual data, you must use standard objects. The problem I was telling you is when values for IO are different from hist data and actual data (material ABC for hist is a shirt, in actual data is a shoe). In this case you must introduce or a table to translate old values in actual values or introduce Source System like compound in IO to understand in query if you are referring to a old value or to an actual value (otherwise you will never understand if value 100 for material ABC is shirt or shoes referred).
For other IO you are asking me I do not know if there are BC objects to use, check in Metadata Repository or Help if there are cubes or ODS containing objects with this description, if not create the same and use this custom objects in Flat File (hist) and R/3 (actual) cubes.

Using a single master data infoobject for multiple fields

Hello experts. Today I ran un with the following problem: I am modelling an Infocube and will be receiving a flat file with several fields, of which 3 of them give information about sales representatives.
For each transaction there are 1-3 sales representatives involved, and this is reflected in the file I am going to be loading. If only one representative is involved, it means that he was in charge of a complete negotiation, and his code will be found in all three fields, if two representatives are involved, it means that one was in charge of one part of the negotiation, while the other was in charge of the rest, and according to what they were in charge, their code will appear in one or two of the fields. If three representatives are involved, each one's code will appear on the field corresponding to the part of the negotiation they were in charge of handling.
I already have the sales representative's codes as master data, but I was wondering how I can have those three fields map into the same InfoObject, if that is possible at all. Maybe in the transformation I map them to the same object? Also, what happens when you create the Data Source? As far as I know, each field in the Data Source must be unique, which makes it impossible to use my ZSALESREP InfoObject for the three fields, at least at Data Source level. What can I do in this case?

You need 3 infoobjects in datasouce to load 3 different fields.
If you want load to a single infoobject, you can map accordingly in transformation, bult last field overwrites previous one.
Its better to maintain 3 fields in cube. Create 2 more sales Reps(ZSALESREP1 & ZSALESREP2) with Reference to ZSALESREP then you no need to maintain master data for ZSALESREP1 & ZSALESREP2.
Use these 3 fields for modeling.

If i understand your question right, you want one table (SID) to be shared between two info objects. It is possible if one info object uses the other info object as its reference.
Create a reference info object.

1. Goto SE11 of R3 and give RSOSFIELDMAP
2. Click on contents icon of the table and give the R3 fields names against the field
3. Execute it and the table will list out the corresponding info objects and the data source.

Hi,
Follow these steps.
1. Create Source system for Flat File (PC File).
2. Create Datasource with the same sequence of the CSV file you have.
3. Create Infopackage to load data into datasource.
4. Create transormation between your DSO and datasource.
5. Check the mapping and activate the transformation.
6. Create DTP and activate it.
7. execute the DTP.

Ravi,
If you want to remove the Infoobject from Dimension then you need to delete the data from the cube and then remove the infoobject from that particular Dimension. I mean delete the assignment for that Infoobject.

Replacing DSO with InfoObject for storing time-dependent master data

Hi Gurus,
currently I am storing time-dependent contract items in a DSO. The posting items are enriched with this master data as well as some other transaction data into another consolidated DSO, which includes the time-dependency (valid from & valid to) as well for better performance. But this means that we will have a large number of records, because 1 new posting item could end up with few posting items more due to the versions of contract item.
Since there are many posting items (>50 millions yearly, daily peak 1-2 million) and the complexity with delta management, I am considering whether to use an InfoObject for storing the contract items. The number of contract items are not many, about 300,000 after migration and about 10,000 each month.
Hence, I would like to ask whether this approach is feasible? Is there a size limit for a master data InfoObject?

hi,
The Time dependent MD object will create the same number of records for the contract item (maybe more) as each contract item will have different record for different time frame.
this can be better explained with example.
let us say you have 1 contract item with 2 entries one valid from 2007-2008 and the other from 2008 onwards.
In DSO this will create 2 records, in time dependent MD object it would also create 2 records.
In the infopackage for the MD you would need to provide the interval (time range) for the MD.
if you provide it as 2007 till 2999 then two records will be created one with 2007-08 and other valid from 2008-999.
However as there would be other contract items which would have lower date say 2006 then this contract item would create 3 rows, 1 row for 2006-07 with blank values, 2nd for 2007-08 and 3rd for 2008-999. This way it has more number of records than the DSO.
In case of MD object you may not be able to delete data as well in future if the object is used in some other place.
There will be many pros and cons of the approach you are thinking and you would have to weigh them and decide.

Can someone give me the steps to follow while creating infoobjects. Example - while working on a query realized that addition of 2 more infoobjects would make a lot of sense. So how do i go about creating infoobjects for the already existing infoprovider. I mean do i need to make the initial changes in the ODS or Infocube? Its just a doubt so please any amount of explanation would be of great help.

I agree with Sreenath.
Few Suggestions:
If these two fields are the part of Transaction Data then you need to add them in Transfer Structure and Infoprovider.
If you want to use these objects as only Navigational Attributes then you need not add these fields to the Infoprovider, just make them as navigational attributes in the master data characteristics.

Finding InfoObjects for DS Fields

I have tried to map the DS fields to InfoObjects in RSOSFIELDMAP table, but i am unable to find the InfoObject mapping for the following fields
MB_GRUND, BMSCH, USE04, USR04, VGW03. these fields are present in the standard DS for PP.
How do i find the relevant info objects for the above fields?

That would be a list of InfoProviders from the system and those with a check makr indicate that this auth object is turned on for the checked cube. So yes, you would have to uncheck the InfoProvider here also before you can delete the auth object.

Difficulty finding BW infoobjects for corresponding R/3 fields

Hello Guys
I have enhanced an extractor 2LIS_13_VDKON, in LBWE ( LO Cockpit ). I added some new ( standard ) fields to the extract structure in the "Maintanence" tab. I also made sure that the fields were not "hidden" in the "data source" tab. Then I activated the extractor, checked in RSA6 for the new changes, and replicated this extractor in BW.
Now, I need to find corresponding standard infoobjects ( delivered or active ) for these R/3 fields to map them. How do I find these infoobjects in BW?
I have tried the following: Used tables RSOSFIELDMAP, ROOSFIELD etc. No help.
I need to find infoobjects to a total of 45 R/3 new ( but standard ) fields.
Please advise.

I have a total of 150 fields that I have to map the infoobjects with. Dont u think its a tiresome job to find an infoobject for each of them manually, one by one.
Dont u think there must be an easy method to do this ?

All these fields are a part of the standard extractor right, so there must be standard IO's in the business content ( mostly under delivered status ), we just need a method to trace them.

Hi dear and welcome on board !
Usually, if you don't find anything by searching in help on line, you have to look if there is something similar by comparing domain, lenght...but, in this case, it's better to create your own infoobjects !
Anyway, try to search if these fields are used by some datasource (in R/3, ROOSFIELD table) and then verify if in BW (RSOSFIELDMAP table) you have related infosource with infoobject mapping !
