Infosource and Infopackages

Hello all,
In our system there is an infosource (3.5) which is currently feeding 5 targets. It has 3 infopackages associated with it - Init delta, Delta and Full repair
Now, I have created a new cube (copy of one of the above said 5 targets) and assigned this infopackage in the update rules. So I have the 3 infopackages for my new cube too..
The purpose of the new cube is to limit data for only certain plants in my selection criteria in the infopackage as opposed to the original global cube which loads data for all plants.
Now, my question is can I create a new infopackage with the required selection criteria and selecting only the new cube as target and do a init, and then create another infopackage with same parameters for deltas? Does it effect any other target? Or, is it a must that I need to use one of the already existing infopackages (full repair or init delta)?

Hi,
In R/3 you have only one delta queue for your BW system. So, if you create a new infopackage, only for your new cube, you won't be able to run an init, because it was already executed.
If you want to filter data, you need to do that in the update rules. So, each delta load will go with all the records through the InfoSource, and when loading into each cube, for this specific new, it will filter the required plants.
If you want to load the history, you'll need to reload all the cubes or load the new cube from a previous one (if it contains the required information).

Login requested when accessing infosource and infopackage?

Good morning,
Our BW development system has started popping up an R/3 login screen whenever we click on an infosource or try to look at the detailed information on an infopackage job.
If we're in RSA1 under Infosources, and we click on any infosource (not datasource) that points to our R/3 QAS system, we get prompted with a window to log into the QAS system. Once we login, it takes us to the infosource screen (which really has nothing to do with the QAS system). When we look at infosources mapped to our R/3 development system, we do not get prompted. We are running R/3 4.7, BW 3.5.
This has never happened before, and the only change I can think of that's happened recently is that our QAS system was refreshed (copied) from our PRD system this weekend. But we do this monthly and it's never been a problem before, and we don't have this problem in our BW production system, which is mapped to the PRD system.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Data source: It provides the data of source system,created in source systenm side and then replicated in BW side.Itis one which provides the data available in the tables to the BW System.A group of fields which are coming from one or more tables is called as datasource.Data will not be resided in the datasource.It will be present in the Tables.Using Datasource we extract the data into BW.
_TYPES OF DATASOURCE: _
datasource for transction data
datasource for char attributes
datasource for texts
datasource for hierarcy (att,texts, hier are master data datasources)
InfoSource: It is the source of meaningfull data for data target...created in BW side..it is basically logical pool of data ( no physical storage) from one or different data source... It is on the BW which contains all the InfoObjects. It contains transfer structure and communication structure. Transfer structure is actually the structure similar to the R/3 Datasource structure and comm. structure contains all the InfoObjects.
in 3.5 it has two types of infosource... flexible update(transction data) and direct update (master data)
core parts: communiation structure and transfer structure...
and infosourc in 7 you logicallcy group striaght infoobjects......

Can't see Update rules and infopackage in the transport connection

Hello, experts!
I need to transport newly created (and activated) update rules and infopackage from Dev to QA environment. When I open transport connection and select infosource, I don't see new update rules and infopackage. There are few update rules for different source systems in this infosource and I can see all of them in the transport connection except for this new one.

in Transport connection please select ur higher level Object say Infocube...and collect data flow before then you will ur Update rules and IP

Transaction code RSA1LEAD YOU TO MODELLING
1. Creation of Info Objects
In left panel select info object
Create info area
Create info object catalog ( characteristics & Key figures ) by right clicking the created info area
Create new characteristics and key figures under respective catalogs according to the project requirement
Create required info objects and Activate.
2. Creation of Data Source
In the left panel select data sources
Create application component(AC)
Right click AC and create datasource
Specify data source name, source system, and data type ( Transaction data )
In general tab give short, medium, and long description.
In extraction tab specify file path, header rows to be ignored, data format(csv) and data separator( , )
In proposal tab load example data and verify it.
In field tab you can you can give the technical name of info objects in the template and you not have to map during the transformation the server will automatically map accordingly. If you are not mapping in this field tab you have to manually map during the transformation in Info providers.
Activate data source and read preview data under preview tab.
Create info package by right clicking data source and in schedule tab click star to load data to PSA.( make sure to close the flat file during loading )
3. Creation of data targets
In left panel select info provider
Select created info area and right click to create ODS( Data store object ) or Cube.
Specify name fro the ODS or cube and click create
From the template window select the required characteristics and key figures and drag and drop it into the DATA FIELD and KEY FIELDS
Click Activate.
Right click on ODS or Cube and select create transformation.
In source of transformation , select object type( data source) and specify its name and source system Note: Source system will be a temporary folder or package into which data is getting stored
Activate created transformation
Create Data transfer process (DTP) by right clicking the master data attributes
In extraction tab specify extraction mode ( full)
In update tab specify error handling ( request green)
Activate DTP and in execute tab click execute button to load data in data targets.
4. Monitor
Right Click data targets and select manage and in contents tab select contents to view the loaded data. There are two tables in ODS new table and active table to load data from new table to active table you have to activate after selecting the loaded data . Alternatively monitor icon can be used.

I have a requirement of working on IS Utilities with BW 3.5. I have R/3 system 4.7 with IS-U patch 4.72 and BI add-on 3.5.3. Domain is electricity trading and I need to deveIope reports for the same. Role of infosource and ts and cs

Can any one give the role of infosource in B.I 7.0?At what instance we willl choose the infosource?send some documents related to this topic?

In BI 7, info source is an optional object. You can directly connect the data sources to the data target and perform all the deletions, checks, validatins etc in the transformations. Before, you had 2 layers ; transfer rules and update rules.
As I said info source is optional, and SAP's recommendations to use info source is as follows:
"We recommend that you use an InfoSource if you want to connect a number of different DataSources to a target and the different DataSources have the same business rules. In the transformation, you can align the format of the data in DataSource with the format of the data in the InfoSource. The required business rules are applied in the subsequent transformation between the InfoSource and the target".
However, multiple transformations not only drag down the performance but also more objects to maintain.

Infosource and datasource connection

Hi Experts,
In the BI 3.5 business content, what is the best way to decide which datasource connects to which infosource? For example if i were to install BI content for SD i have about 8 datasources and 20 infosources and 6 cubes only.
How can i setup a dataflow based on Bi content only?
Should i make a decision based on the fields i am interested in? Please educate me on this.

Hi Krishna,
Go to RSA1--->, right mouse show data flow you can double click the elements.
On the Source systems you can see the relation between DS and IS.
Also try table RSOLTPSOURCE - field OLTPSOURCE for datasource,field BASOSOURCE for infosource.using 'show data flow' as mentioned, click 'technical name on/off' to have the technical name displayed.

Not able to find the infosource and transfer rules in the infosource tab

Hi everyone,
Not able to find the infosource and transfer rules in the infosource tab in Modelling. I was able to see that the infosource is available under nodesnot connected in the transport connection tab. But i cannot see the same in infosource tab. Please advise.

I have searched with technical name, I am not able to find it, but when i double click on the datasource .....the transfer rules pop up. Because I have not transported the application component, I am not able to find it. But even though it should be available on the nodesnotconnected, I still cannot see it. Is there a work around this ?
I have also tried rsa1old, it still could not find.

1. make sure that your datasources have activated (trans RSA5 in SAP Source System) from the SAP Source system (Ex: R/3 or SCM System)
2. after that you have to run trans RSA9 in SAP Source System to transfer new datasource in to BI System.
3. log-on into BI System, run trans RSA1, choose SourceSystem Tab in the left panel. Right click on to your SAP Source System then choose Replicate.
4. in the left panel choose BI Content tab, select infoObjects by infoArea.
5. then Click on Grouping, select in Dataflow Before and afterward. Click Collection Mode, select Collect Automatically.
6.in the middle panel, expand "Supply Chain Management" infoArea, select both Characteristics: Logistics General and Key Figures: Logistics General. Right click on it and select Insert Objects for Collections.
7. After the objects have been inserted into Collected Objects then choose install with option Install in Background.
8. Wait for the result.

In the info package groups you can schedule multiple info packages and u can run a info package if the previous one is succesful if not stop the load ..
We do have some options in loading multiple info packages..
And info package is specific to that only...
The T-codes to monitor are RSMO and RSMON(Info package groups).

Now IP is mandatory and used to bring the data from source to PSA..
and DTP is loading and transfering the data within BI itself.

Process chain and Infopackage?

Hi,
I am creating the process chain in that I am completely delting the data contents from the Cube and then I am loading data(this is our requirment).There is an error
A type "Complete Deletion of Data Target Contents" process cannot follow process "Execute InfoPackage" var.ZPAK_11VS7H4SRVUOPFQDDJO9V7SSG in the chain
Please help me to resolve this.

Hi Vasu
It seems that BW doesn't want to have an Infopackage and then a Deletion, it may consider that you can't do it even if the loading is not the same.
You should add another step between, like Indexes for your infocube ...
