Inhibit output per axis is always active, even if i KILL the axis in max

Hi,
I'm using pci-7344 with UMI-7774 and 3'rd party servo drive.
everything works fine but the inhibit output signal on the axis,
it is always ON and never changes state even when i press "Kill" the axis in MAX.
I know that the inhibit output per axis on the UMI (wich ia named "Enable" in the UMI manual) is a combination logic
of  some signals in the umi, for example: if the Fault signal is asserted then the "Enable" signal is asserted also.
in order to debug the problem, i set the other signals that affect the "Enable" signal to value that i can be sure
that will not affect the "Enable" signal, i do that so i can be sure that when i press KILL and Halt in MAX, the Enable sould be toggle off/on.
The "Fault" input signal per axis on the UMI (User-supplied external Fault input (per axis)): i set the jumper in the UMI to "Active low", and connect the Fault+, Fault- to always be high, so the UMI
always "think" that there is no errors from the servo drive.
i made the wiring for the "fault on the UMI as described in :
Figure 3-8. Example of Wiring a High-Side Switch to the Fault Input , page 3-10 in the UMI manual.
Same thing i do for the "Inhibit All" signal on the "Global Stop" connector on the UMI , as described here:Same for the Shutdown on this global stop connector.
Now, i think, i can be sure that when pressing KILL the Enable sugnal need to change its state, nothing happened....
i notice these thing: measuring the volt between the "Enable" pin on the axis
and the Ciso, i get always +24VDC. is that should be 5V... ?
there is a lot of names for the same signal that makes the debugging more difficult (Enable, INOUT1, INALL, inhibit output, per axis, etc...)
P.S. i also can see any LED in the UMI that is Lit,  only the "Power V , Viso" LED is Lit.
Please someone make this issue clear for all, cause i see a lot of posts in the forum of people who ask about
the inhibit output per axis or in its other name "Enable" signal that output from the UMI per axis.
Thanks

Hello Eric,
Thank you for your reply, i'm trying to solve this for long time.
I follow your instructions about the switched on the UMI and setting the parameters in MAX, re-initilized and .. the problem is still there...
These is the configuration i made, i hope that something here will help you to help me solving this problem:
1.  I'm using only one Axis on the UMI, so i set in mac all other axis to disable in the Axis Configuration tab.
2.  The Axis that i'm using (Axis4) configured in this way :
in "Motion I/O Settings" tab of this axis:
Forward, Reverse,Home Limit switches is all "Enabled" and "Active High Polarity"
Software Limit setting (Forward and Reverse) :  Disabled
Inhibit Output setting :     "Enabled" and "Active High Polarity"
Inhibit Input setting : is grayed, cant set its parameter (i see (in the grayed) that its set to : Disabled)
3.  In UMI-7774:
All the Axis that i dont use and set in MAX to Disabled, their switches in the UMI is "Active Low"
i dont use them, and i tink its not relevant for which value they set, but this is the facts for troubleshoot this problem.
The Axis that i'm using: Axis4 , the switches on the UMI board is set to :
     FAULT       :  Active Low
     ENABLE    :  Active High
     LIMIT LED  : Active Low
On the UMI, only the Power V, Viso LED are Lit, all other LED in the umi:
Inhibit All, Interlock, and each axis Leds (Disabled,Fault,Home,Fwd,Rev) are all not Lit .
 4. i connect  9-Pin cable to the  "Global Stop" on the UMI, so i can set the  "Inhibit All" , "Shutdown" input signals ,
which are "user supplied" input signals.  they are now connected directly to the C-Iso,
cause i want them not affect the "Enable" signal on the Axis that i'm using (i hope that connectng them to the Ciso is the
right decision, cause i dont know where to set their polarities..if i need to..??? )
5. The "Fault" signal for the axis that i'm using (Fault+, Fault-)  is connected to Viso and Ciso, later when i know that the Enable signal is
working, i'll connect these (Fault+, Fault-)  to the Alarm signal from the Servo Drive.
currently i connect them diectly to Viso and Ciso, again, cause i want them not affect the "Enable" signal on the Axis that i'm using.
i think that comletes the setting according to the UMI user manual, page 3-11...
The thing that i dont understand here is that the manual is writtent that  the "Controller Axis Inhibit Out (per axis)"
is affect the "Enable" signal, and i though that the "Enable" signal is itself the "Inhibit Out (per axis)"
so, i'm sure measing something here...
Thanks for helping with this, i'm really on the last configuration of the servo, cause everything else
is working good, encoder, Dir, Puls, commands to the servo using MAX 1D interactive, and LabView programs all working well,
p.s. now i;m manualy give input for the servo on signal , i want that the "Enable" will do this job..
Thanks

  • Where is the inhibit output per axis on pci7344/umi7774

The umi7774/pci7344 has in Axis1 control connector, pin 6, "Enable"
is that is the "inhibit output signal" that is in MAX in the Axis configuration tab?

    Hi John,
wow, you really know, how to keep up people's motivation who try to help you...
Anyway, if you need a specific answer, please post specific questions. From your original question I couldn't tell, what you have read and what not, so I'm sorry, if my first answer didn't meet your expectations.
The enable signal on the UMI is an output, that should be connected to a corresponding input on the drive. Please compare the signal compatibility before connecting the pins. Typically drives provide an Enable input, that is used to turn on/off the motor power by an external signal.
As described in the manual, the enable signal toggles depending on several signals. You may need to adjust the polarity switches on the UMI to make the Enable output work according to your needs. E. g. depending on your setup there is a chance that a wrong polarity of the Fault input signal sets the Enable output to a fixed level.
You can test if your Enable signal is working correctly by using 1D-Interactive. Hitting the "Kill" button should assert the signal, "Halt" should reset it again.
    I hope that helps,
    Jochen

  • Mid-2012 RMBPro 10.9.4: Is it possible to switch between graphic cards?  Activity monitor shows the high perf card always active even through no running apps need it.

How does one switch between graphics cards on a RMB Pro that has both a regular and high performance card installed?

There's no control built into OS X to manually switch between them (that I know of). But in your Energy Saver preferences, there is setting called Automatic Graphics Switching that will either keep the discrete GPU on all the time, or automatically switch it off when not in use. Do you already have this preference turned on?
It might keep the high performance graphics card on if it's plugged into AC power, since there is no battery life penalty in that case.

  • Problems setting Inhibit Outputs with UMI

I am using a 3rd party stepper drive with a PCI7334 and 7764 UMI. The Step, Dir and Enable inputs on the drive are opto isolated. I have tied the -ve terminal of each to Ground and the +ve terminal to +5V though a 390ohm resistor and to the corresponding connection on the UMI.
I setup the axes inhibit output in software to be Inverting, the switch on the UMI is set to Active Low inhibit outputs and the Drives are Active closed (need to have a potential difference across them to be enabled).
My third axis must be enabled the opposite way around. But when i set it up in software to be Non-inverting, it doesn't change on the UMI. why would this be so?
Can you have one axis with its inhibit output active low, and another axis with it
    s inhibit output active high?
Also, Do i need to pull the inhibit outputs high?
Your help will be much appreciated.

    To whom it may concern:
Yes, you can have one axis with its inhibit output active low and another axis set to active high. You need to go into MAX under the Device Settings and expand the tree entitled Axis Settings. With the corresponding axis selected in the tree, you can set the inhibit output to active high or low. If you don't expand the tree under Axis Settings then whatever you set the inhibit output polarity to will apply to all axes on the board. That might be part of your problem.
That inhibit output shouldn't need to be pulled high. That would be handled internally to the board.
Hopefully that is help to you. Best of luck with things.

  • TM Disc always active

I use a MBP at work and a Mini on my desk at home, I keep the data (Documents) on both machines synched. I have a LaCie hooked to the home machine with a partition running TM, at work I have a SimpleTech drive, used for TM, which stays in the office and I plug into a USB port when I fire up the MBP when I arrive here.
I notice that the office SimpleTech drive is ALWAYS flashing its blue activity light. The LaCie at home only starts blinking on the hour and when TM starts up, here in the office there is constant disc activity. I also need to kick-start the thing. Typically when I plug it in the blue light starts a winking but no backup occurs until I right click on the drive and tell it to Back Up Now. This seems to work, at least I get a "Today" in the TM display and I seem to get another every hour. But the activity light is flashing ALL the time.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks - Lawrence

Thanks folks. I do not think it is the sync process as I use Synchronize Pro X and only fire the thing up when the machines are on the same network - i.e. at home. I think the issue is the way the SimpleTech drive works. It has a USB cable with TWO USB plugs at the computer end, this to obtain adequate power. If I plug in ONE USB plug into my MBP, the drive comes alive but does not show up in the Finder. If I plug the second plug into the MBP - using the two side-by-side USB ports on the left side of the MBP - then it pops up in the Finder and TM sees it. If I do all this AFTER the laptop has booted, it seems - so far - that TM is happy and starts working. If I do this BEFORE I boot then it seems TM does not see the drive, but the drive is active even so, judging by the blue light activity.
If I hook it up so TM sees it, the blue light seems to coincide with TM activity - as far as I can judge. At least, it behaves like my drive at home and does not run continuously.
I have an external, powered, USB 2 hub which provides enough power through just a single USB plug, but this runs for a few hours and then hangs - the whole hub becomes inoperable - well sometimes! Often enough that I do not consider it a solution. My local printer runs off this hub and I use it for thumb drives and all, so I shall keep it for these devices and use the SimpleTech off the two USB ports on the MBP.
One other solution is that the SimpleTech can take an external power supply (not supplied with the drive) and then it will require only the single USB plug, and - I assume - will draw minimal, if any, power from it. I'll pop into Radio Shack and see if they have one and if this fixes the problem.
In summary I think the issue is the way the SimpleTech hooks up and the way it draws power and something about the manner of its startup procedure - dunno! But if I follow the regimen described above it seems to work okay. I shall try using external power and run it via the hub and see if that helps.
One other thing of interest is in the System Log, e.g:
" Jan 9 09:21:31 Freya /System/Library/CoreServices/backupd[179]: No pre-backup thinning needed: 307.2 MB requested (including padding), 58.50 GB available"
Freya is the name of this machine (I have a romantic Mac!!!) and I wonder if the backup daemon's need for thinning - whatever that means - could be doing something that requires much effort and blue light winking!
The System Log is a grand source for speculation - not to mention sheer entertainment. Who knew all this stuff was going on down there in this machine's innards...
Thanks for your help. I think this is closed and I'll see how it behaves with an external power supply.

  • How to use URI of axis.jar in activity

    hi,
I was trying to invoke a webservice, in which the parameter is of type org.apache.axis.types.URI ,
So how do i import the axis.jar into BPM project to use the URI class.
    1. Do i need to generate a catalog for this?
    2. Or is there any other procedure for this?
I am using BPM Studio for this.
    Thanks
    Krishnaveni.

Importing a jar is by adding it as an external resource and then you can use it in the catalogue.

  • PG 522 Field Point I/O Activity Lights always on even when no output is requeste

I am making Time Duration outputs to a PG-522 Module. SOmetimes, even when I have no output the activity light stays on all the time. The only way to clear it is to reset the Field Point Communications. What could Cause this to happen?

    Hi Pat,
The activity light does not tell you if your channel is in the ON or OFF state.  It tells you if the channel is generating pulses.  According to the manual, if you  are using the 1s resolution the max ON/OFF time is 65,535s.  This could cause the activity light to stay on while it looks like you have no output.

  • Inhibit out always active

On axis 2 of a UMI-7764, the inhibit out is constantly active, disabling the third party motor driver.  I have axis 1 configured identically in MAX and it works just fine with identical hardware.  I have traced the problem back to at least the UMI if not the PCI-7330 controller card.  INHOUT2 is constantly on -- either high or low depending on the polarity switch.  MAX will still allow the UMI to generate control pulses for Step and Direction so long as it thinks that the axis is not killed.  I am not using encoders or limit switches at the moment.
    Settings are as follows:
Enabled, no feedback, step & direction output, active high polarity, disabled limit filters and switches, disabled software limits, and enabled inhibit out active high.
Axis 1 has the same settings, and works fine.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As an addendum, I used a second UMI-7764 which was tested with a second axis on another machine and am getting the same result as I got with my original UMI.  Looks like the problem is upstream, perhaps in the PCI-7330.

  • Inhibit output not responding in PCI7344 motion controller.

I need to use inhibit output as a enable signal for a third party drive unit. I have configured it as active high and enabled it. Inhibit output is pulled up to 5V with 270 ohm resistor. But inhibit output is not changing its state irrespective of it is being enabled or disabled? Please suggest any corrective action? Thank you.

    Hello Pras,
Are you using the UMI to connect to your drive or cabling directly to the 7344?
If you are connecting directly to the 7344, then the inhibit output should sink plenty of current to pull the output low with a 270 ohm pull up resistor. Make sure the inhibit is enabled and the polarity is set appropriately for your application. Initialize the controller and check the output state. Go to the 1D Interactive section and press the "Kill" button to disable the drive. You should see the inhibit line change state.
If you are using the UMI, then there are more settings to consider. Make sure to set the inhibit output polarity switch on the UMI appropriately. Enable the inhibit output in software, set the polarity, and intialize the controller. The in
hibit output on the UMI should be inactive. If it is active (ie. in an inhibited state), then try changing the inhibit input polarity switch on the UMI. The UMI will "OR" together the per axis inhibit from the 7344, the per axis inhibit input on the UMI, and the inhibit all input on the UMI. Once the polarities are set correctly, you should be able to see the output changing state.

  • Computer unresponsive with disk activity, even when disk is USB

    Hi,
I've always had issues with responsiveness with Linux when there is disk activity (several distro's, same hardware), whereas a Windows XP installation reacts very snappily. When I have a torrent client open, Mplayer keeps hanging a few times a minute (even more often when the download is going fast (2 MB/s)).
Recently I migrated to ext4 in the hopes that would fix it, but it didn't. It's also not something as simple as a DMA issue (because it's SATA). Disk throughput is about 80 MB/s, which is OK.
Anyway, currently, I'm performing this on a USB disk:
    dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=10M
And even then the computer is almost unusable, which it shouldn't be, because the internal disks are not used for this. And some time back when I was copying an AVI to a USB stick, it was utterly unusable.
Maybe it's a driver issue, because I can't imagine the normal schedulers being so horrible, but I can't say.
My disk controller can't be accessed with AHCI (there is no 'native' option in the BIOS), yet NCQ is enabled:
    # dmesg|grep -i ncq

Disks (in MD RAID1): 2 WDC WD15EARS-00Z5B1 (disks have changed over the years) and 1 Seagate disk (which contains windows and is spun down in Linux, to prevent noise).
I disabled the (self-destructing) head parking feature of the caviar green disks with WDidle by setting the timeout to max (disabling the head parking with WDidle actually lets it trigger constantly, that's why I chose this way).

I recently tried to play around with the schedulers and I found out that using "deadline" for my internal drives, "cfq"  for my optical drive and "noop" for everything else. I tried copying a load of small files on my USB flashdrive while playing a movie from the optical drive and the system felt very responsive.
I've been playing some more, and you're right in that it seems that with the internal disks at deadline, the system is a lot more responsive. Previously, I put the external disk I was zeroing at deadline too, but that (I know now) made it worse again.
I run a 3.2-rc5 kernel which seems to help considerably though.
Has there been any specific change in that kernel to cause that?
BTW, I noticed that the NCQ queue on your drives is of 0 length, try setting it o 31 like this (as root).
I always wondered about the NCQ queue. In pages about NCQ that I found, the dmesg also reported a queue of 0. I just always figured it meant how many commands it currently had, being zero at boot time.
When I do "cat /sys/block/sda/device/queue_depth" it always says one, regardless of disk activity.

  • In Report I have a 2D axis system. How do I properly calculate the grid line interval for exactly 10 dots per tick

Having trouble getting the dots to line up correctly with the ticks of a 2D axis.  I would like to have exactly 10 dots per tick.  The programming is no problem.  I set the D2AxisGridInterv variable after opening the 2D axis object.  I can't seem to figure out how to calculate the number that results in exactly 10 dots per tick.  I also have tried manually iterating to get 10 dots and have not been succesful.  What is this number based from?  It says as a percentage of the diagonal of the worksheet.  I can get pretty close to 10 dots per tick, but it is always off just a bit.  Is there really a way to get scientific based dots on a 2D axis so that the data can be analyzed from a printed plot?
    Thanks-Ryan

    Hi Ryan,
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "dots", but I'm going to guess you meant grid lines set to dot display.  In that case you can align the grid lines to the axis sub-ticks, then set the sub-ticks to invisible.  The sub-ticks can be set to N of them per axis tick.  Attached you will find an example of 10 dotted vertical grid lines per X axis tick.

Is this happening for every one? The time zone  location service is ALWAYS active in 5.0.1 in both my 4S and my iPad 2.

I'm also noticing this after the update.  In 5.0 my iPad 1 had the purple arrow always on, no matter what, and my iPhone 4S was normal (arrow just once in a while, briefly).  Now, after the update, both have the arrow on for really really really long periods of time.  However, at least on the iPad, there's a difference: whereas before the update, this was clearly running down the battery quickly, after the update, it doesn't seem to be affecting the battery much.  (I read for quite a while with the arrow on and battery at 99%, which would not have happened before, when I could practically watch it tick down without blinking)
On both devices, the arrow *does* eventually turn off, but it takes a long long time to decide to do so.  (Maybe an hour, even)    It's annoying that whereas the iPhone had been acting "normally" before the update and it was a big problem on the iPad, now both devices are stuck with this semi-problem.  Fixing the broken one would have been better than half-fixing the broken one and half-breaking the OK one!
