Ink levels, bad quality & possible loss of loyal customer!!!!

I can't find any of the places this is telling me to go to look for my ink levels.  I checked the drivers and they are up to date and working properly.  Yet I've been having problems with my printer not working correctly and sometimes not at all.  I was hoping to look at the ink levels and see if something has gone wrong with my new ink cartridges that could be causing these problems.  However, I can't find the place(s) to go to and check.  It's simply either not there or not where this says it should be.  I don't understand.  But my printer never indicates that the ink is low even when it is (by way of the indicator light), I never get on-screen messages telling me it's low either (like I did with my last HP printer...that also died with similar problems), and it seems to be going through ink much faster than it should.  And that's with a combination of draft quality and normal quality printing of simple black text items.  I rarely print anything of either a higher quality level or with pictures!  I don't understand why I am having these problems.  It is very frustrating because what was an awesome printer seems to be having problems and we never know when it is going to work.  Since the ink runs out entirely too fast, this also puts a financial burden on my family since the cartridges exceed $30 yet I'm getting half or less of the printing that it indicates one would get for regular everyday black printing without pictures.  I am on the brink of stepping away from HP entirely.  I have already ventured away from HP on the computer level and, now, I just might venture away from HP printers and other products alike.  Especially since my HP wireless mouse also acts bizarre at times and just won't work for a spell and suddenly works again.  It's not the battery because it happens even with a brand new battery.  It seems that, no matter how much I respected HP as a company due to their "superior quality" it has the reputation for, HP has let my family and I down.  I am a college student and it is most inconvenient when I need to print a paper for school and I have to get to school early and PAY to print it because my printer or cartridges are "conveniently" on the fritz again!!!  I highly suggest that HP looks into the various systems that people are using with their printers so they can give better advice, or info, on how to check the levels, and I even more highly suggest that HP invests into their quality before the general public starts to feel the way I've been feeling and also walks away from the HP company as a whole.  I've been using HP, computer and printer wise, since 2000 and it's a shame that it has come to this.  If someone would like to reach me about my thoughts of the company's new-founded UN-superior quality and attempt to keep or regain me as a customer my information is as follows.  Dana M. Briscoe[text removed for privacy]
I hope this feedback is taken seriously if HP is serious about their quality, performance, and loyalty to their loyal customers (who, by the way, are getting ticked at the declining quality).  With each HP product I own, the quality seems to decline, and that's a shame because each time I actually upgrade to a "better" and more expensive model thinking that the quality is due to it being a cheaper, lesser quality product.  It seems that when I "upgrade" the quality actually worsens, which is absolutely backwards.  I spend more so I get less.  Not many companies follow that standard!!

  • Bad quality of X1. Lack of customer empathy. More than 3 weeks to repair already. SAD.

Frustration over the build quality of the X1 carbon ultrabook and the warranty service aspect of it. Bought in September 2012 for a student. Simply stopped working 3 weeks back and given to Palo Alto service center. They sent to some factory for fixing. Emails to execs, customer service met with lack of customer empathy. Is this a reflection of Lenovo culture?

    Hi, purukms
Sorry to hear you're having such an experience. If you happen to know your serial number, then I can look up the machine and see why these delays are happening and let you know when you should be able to expect your machine back. All you have to do is send me a private message containing your name and serial number and I'll look it up.

  • Is it possible to manually reset ink levels for Canon printers on a Mac?

I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere...
I just got ink cartridges refilled for the first time. The guy in the store said the chip on the tanks was designed to prevent refills but there was a way to reset the ink levels. On a PC, it seems.
Can anyone tell me with any certainty whether/how to do this if it's doable? I've messed around in my printer utility for way too long...Thanks.

According to the Canon web site, the reset is performed via the control panel of the printer - it is not performed via the driver settings so it won't matter that you have the machine connected to a Mac.
Have a look at this page
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/8000145501.html
You will see that for the CHECK CARTRIDGE error, sub-code U130, the following is the cause and workaround.
    Cause
An ink tank that was once used up or refilled may be installed.
    Action
Although it is possible to continue printing by holding down the Stop/Reset button for more than five seconds, this operation will release the function for detecting the remaining ink level.

  • Does anyone experienced bad quality when burning a DVD?

Does anyone experienced bad quality when burning a DVD?
Using OS 10.6.8 and Magiv Video in iDVD, I am having a hard time creating a decent DVD. The videos per se are fine, but the intro menu and menu text and images are extremely poor quality and hard to read. What is going on?

Hi my notes on this - might be of help
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD or other resolutiona as result will suffer) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • HP Photosmart Premium c 309g will not print black, all other colors fine. Shows ink levels fine,

Have photosmart premium c309 g connected wirelessly to I Mac and Mac book pro.  The unit suddenly will not print black.  Ink levels show all good.  All other colors print fine.  When check HP utility and go to print quality diagnostics, a box appears that states cannot print PQ page--make sure printer is turned on.  If I tell it to print a page, it immediatly connects and prints all colors but not black.  How can it print regular page but not receive message to print PQ page?  "make sure printer is on" ??

I have this exact same problem with the same printer.  Printer will not print black. My macbook pro is connecting to the printer but shoots out a blank page.  I just put in a new ink cartridge even though it was not low on ink.  Please help.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g new ink levels drop to less than half after few pages.

Installed all new HP940 ink cartridges and the levels dropped to half after only printing less 12 ink defective pages. Quality Diagnostics Page shows colors but black ink does not show up at all.  Self Test Diagnostic page shows printhead status is good. Checked the ink tubes and they are still neatly bundled and no signs of leakage.

    Hello TV60,
I see that the Officjet 8500 a909g is not displaying the correct ink levels and will not print black. You have done a great job trying to resolve the issue already, some steps I will suggest you have already done but it wont hurt to go over them again.
This HP link: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers may help explain why the inks are not showing as full as you think they should be after just installing them.
These HP documents: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages & Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues are going to help you figure out if the print heads need to be replaced even though your Printer Status Report shows the health as "Good".
    I hope this helps.

  • Bad quality preview via HDMI

    Hello together!
After searching for days in the www and on this board I hope somebody here knows a solution for this problem:
Im looking for a quality solution to preview the program monitor as a full screen picture on my Panasonic HD-Ready TV. I got it running, but there is a really strange quality problem:
When I just use the TV as a second Windows display and I move the program monitor onto it (no full screen but at 100% display level) the preview looks nice but I can not see the complete picture, because 1280x720 plus the program monitor itself is too big for my screen When I change the display size of the program monitor to something lower than 100% the scaling looks very bad higher than 100% no problem with scaling.
    So this is my problem:
When I switch it in the playback settings to playback on extern monitor to view it full screen there is a problem. Diagonal lines get a bad looking aliasing. My idea was that CS3 is scaling something (and this does the program not as good as I tried the preview with trailversions of Edius5 or Vegas8c). Just at 100% CS3 preview looks nice (the same when I just watch the program monitor on the Notebook display).
My Nvidia Card is set to HDMI 720p output. The TV says it is a 720p signal what is coming form my HDMI cable, and last but not least my footage is also filmed in 720p60 (Sony Ex1) and I used the 720p60 EX1 setting in CS3.
So again, when I just watch these clips for example with the Sony clip browser on my TV (also form this Notebook via the same HDMI output) the diagonal lines start not to flicker and are displayed very sharp. So it cant be the graphic card, the TV or the footage at my knowledge.
So why does CS3 scale there something in the full screen preview although from input to output everything is in 720p? Furthermore why is the scale in such a bad quality (Edius does this perfect so maybe I have just a wrong setting somewhere in my CS3 settings). Is CS3 not using the graphic card for scaling?
    My system:
    Asus V1S Notebook
    NVidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB
    Duo T7500
    2GB Ram
    Windows Vista
Hope somebody here is able to find a solution for this problem, because I dont want to buy an extra video board (like Axio) for it.
    Best wishes,
    Swen

But often with these cards, you can not work in the CS3 normal nativ settings for Ex1 footage.
At my knowldge when I would like to open a project which with a Blackmagic Card for example and I like to finish the editing on an other computer without that card you'll have a problem (because BM or other cards allway use their own presett window-right?). So you lose a lot of flexibilty by using a card or a third party codec like this. So it's not so future proof as just to work with the NLE Software itself.
I see this now with my old Premiere 6.5 Projects. I used a Canopus Raptor RT2 for this with the Canopus codec. That worked very very well, but now I can't use this project anylonger on a new editing CS3 station, because it doens't support these Canopus transitions and codecs. Also the only Windows Notebook based output solution is the MotuV4 box... not a very cost effectiv solution for a preview.
So again. There must be a sloution to get the problem with the diagonal lines fixed. Why does CS3 scale the preview when 720p footage should be displayed over a 720p output onto a 720p Monitor? No need for scaling? Or am I wrong with this?

  • Screen is slightly blurry / has bad quality

I bought new Samsung 24" LCD monitor S24C300 and new video card Nvidia GT 630. Monitor is connected with DVI cable.
Problem is that when I'm using native resolution 1920 x 1080, the screen is really small and I have to use the DPI setting thing to make screen bigger, but, when I apply the DPI settings, some programs come annoying blurry.
At the resolution 1280 x 720 the screen is good size, but the text has slightly bad quality and is little blurry, so what to do?
I have adjusted the monitors sharpness settings and I also have ClearType on, but that doesn't help.
Could somebody help me with this issue? Thanks in advance!

Please first install the latest drivers for video and moniotr.
Some times a blurry screen can be caused by a poor cable, check with anothe if possible.
You can also try other port to test this issue, like HDMI.

  • Bad quality of web images X1 Carbon 2015

All images (especially the small ones) and icons from internet and some applications have very bad quality as if they had very low resolution. For example, all avatars on Facebook look really bad, I can hardly recognize people. The same holds for all logos and banners with text images. I understand that the images get distorted because of extremely high resolution of the display (2560x1440) - by the way normal text and all Windows images have excellent clarity - however I can hardly beleive that a 2000 EUR machine is not able to provide appropriate image quality even for simle internet surfing! Is that a fact you have to accept when having 2560x1440 or is it somehow possible to get normal image quality? (Otherwise I'll return the laptop).

Here is a screen shot of how it looks like when you open private modus in IE.
At the top you see the blue block [InPrivate] in excellent quality and at the bottom you see how the same thing is displayed when it's an image. Actually both should look the same.

My computer has 2 Fieldpoint ethernet banks setup to allow Lookout to interface with mulitple HW peripherals.  Lookout launches automatically when the computer starts up.  And after everything is loaded, one of the ethernet banks will almost immediately log the following alarm, "Bad quality received from network module."  Does anyone know what criteria/logic is behind the triggering of this alarm?
We have been unable to find any issues that would cause this alarm to go off.

it is power cycled it works again. We have another FP1600 on same network with no problem. Ethernet drop is 230 feet. Part# is 185690E-01, firmware 4.11. I have swapped it with a spare unit we have of the same part number, 185690E-01 and firmware release.Mike,

  • Low Ink level warning on new inks.

I own a Photosmart c309a and I am about ready to throw the thing out of the window.
I purchased all 5 inks required today, printed 1 test photo (6x4), 2 personal photos (6x4) and about 7 test pages as I have not used the printer for a couple of months and had to clean the printer head 7 times.
The problem I am now faced with is low ink levels. The Cyan, Magenta and Yellow inks are nearly empty, the Black is just over half full and the photo black is about a quarter full.
Remember, these official HP cartridges are brand new and purchased TODAY!
As my warranty expired with Comet about 2 months ago and HP is of no help at all as the automatic HP warranty check is a dead end, I am at a loss as to what t o do next, other than dumping the whole lot in the bin and buying a new (non HP) printer. Can anyone help?

    Hi @Mondo1, I'd be happy to help1
You can try changing the settings in the Printer Server Properties.
Click to highlight your printer, click Printer Server Properties, then click Advanced tab and check both "Show informational notifications..." boxes.  Click Apply and then click OK.
As you can see, this screenshot is not specific to your printer. you will need to look for your 6600.

  • After Effects riddle (bad quality when I delet sth different)

Hi there. I have one bought project an I am wondering why my logo makes blurred automatically if I delete any different layer who is unseen.
    Someone can explain this?
This is an "UNSEEN" layer. It has to be right here. When I delete this invisible layer, my logo ("Logo Animation" name below) makes blurres and got bad quality. But I see no reason for that. "Map 1" has no option or parented or something. Do you know why if I delete unseen "Map1" my Logo makes bad quality?
    Here is a whole project:

This is not extreme important thing to my job or sth. I am only curious

  • Ink level anomaly or inbuilt design?

     F4280 all in one-OPERATING WITH WIN7-VIA A DUAL CORE 4 xGHIG PC.
Problem is very frustrating in that , starting with 2x new cartridges, as soon as the COLOUR has been used a little and shows a small decline in ink level- the printer refuses to print from the Black cartridge, even though its new and unused???
model s/n cn8782w1b1- CB656-64002- JULY 2008- purchased in 2009. and now out of warranty... Most grateful if anyone could help with this problem?? retailer / workshop says its a software problem- HP Support says its a hardware problem but cannot readily give ""support rendered", and suggests this forum for possible aid.. The cartridge being indicated as empty will not prevent printing.  What operaing system?  You could do the opposite of the steps in this page to disable bidirectional communication with the printer.

  • Want ProRes export from After Effects. Bad Quality. What possibilities do I have?

    Hey guys,
    I've got a question...
I'm working on a project in After Effects and want to export it now as a quicktime movie with prores.
The movie I get, has got a bad quality and seems blurred.
I can export as animation but is there another possibility?
    Need more information? Please ask!
    Best regards
    MumpitzOne

Did you mean to ask this on the Premiere Pro forum? Your post mentions After Effects. Are you looking for a solution using Premiere Pro or After Effects?
Also, when asking about poor quality, it's best to post an example (such as a screenshot) so that we can see what you're referring to.
It also helps if you give details about what version of the applicaiton you're using, what operating system, and so on.

  • No Ink level check with Windows 7

    Hello.
Is there a way to check ink levels of my HP Officejet K7100 in Windows 7?
It was fine when I used Vista, but since getting a Windows 7(64 bit) operating system I do not have the facility.
The printer works OK with the new computer - just no ink level check. The new drivers came from within Windows 7 and there does not seem to be the facility to download any others direct from HP.
    Thanks

     Hi Malcom,
Unfortunately, there is only the driver that is inside of Windows 7 for the HP Officejet K7100 and the "in operating system" driver doesn't contain the capability for ink level checking.
I've attached a link to a document from the product support page that indicates the loss in functionality such as ink level checking.  It is down in step 4 (mistakenly labeled step 3 in the document as there is a step 3 above this step) labeled "Learn about the changes you can expect with the in-OS driver".
