Insert a bunch of stills

I had already asked about inserting a single frame onto the timeline and it seems I can't do that in one move, but the default when you put a selection of stills onto the timeline is for each still to be ten seconds long. Is there no option to change that to any other length? Note, this is particular to selecting a group of stills to place sequentually on the timeline. I know that I can set the length in prefs, but that only works for one single still image.

Sorry, but maybe my original question wasn't clear enough. The stills have been imported into the events library. I then want to put them on the timeline, each for a set amount of time, like say, just 2 frames, or one second or whatever. So I want to select all the stills and put them on the timeline for a predetermined length. One single step to do that. Right now, the only way I know is to select the stills and hit E. That puts them on the timeline at the end, but ten seconds each. I then have to select the images on the timeline (which involves moving to a wider view to do that) then do the step you have indicated, or, as I do it, hit CTRL D (for duration) and then type 2. Hit enter and it changes them all to 2 frames. Good! Now I have to resize the timeline again to be able to be closer in to work with the stillls, which are now only 2 frames each (as I want). This is a multi step process.
So I wish I could select the items in the event browser, set the time I want them to be on the timeline and then hit one key and boom, they go on the timeline just as I want them in one easy step. Can that be done?

Is the iPhoto Library still where it was previously (or on external Hard Disk - now turned off) ?
One approach might be to - Repair iPhoto library (but this takes hours - so try below first)
Trouble-shooting guide
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
Creating a new User-Account and log into this
This forces iMovie to create all pref. and cache files new and error free
Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
a Codec is used that doesn't work (even though iMovie and/or iDVD tries to / they fail in the end)
version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
USB-flash-memories - usually do not work
Net-work connected hard disks - usually do not work (most often not fast enough and WRONGLY FORMATTES as DOS etc)
iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie. When iMovie starts-up it first look trough this iPhoto library and if faulty it all Halt’s.
This You do by
First - close iPhoto
Secondly - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
Thirdly - now select all five options presented
THEN - WAIT a long long time (>20 hours are not strange)
free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
Screen must be set to million-colors
Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

Can You Combine a Bunch of Stills into a Clip?

I have a bunch of stills that I imported and placed into my timeline. I want to apply a transition across a bunch of them (say, 30 or so), but the transition will not work that way. Can I select them all and have them combined into a clip or subclip or something that I can treat as a single clip?

If I understand what you want to do, you have "X" stills in succession (30 or 40, it doesn't matter what the count is) that last 1-2 seconds total. You want to treat these as a group and crossfade them +as a group+ with another clip. Is that correct?
I don't think you can do this using a +Crossfade Transition+ as there are not sufficient 'handles' in the stills to apply the transition. So you will need to build your own crossfade using the opacity overlay.
Here's what I suggest, assuming you already have a Sequence1 with clips edited into it ... and you have a 'Clip1' on track V1 that you want your stills to crossfade into.
Create a new sequence +(File > New > Sequence).+ Call it Sequence2. Then open it in the timeline by double-clicking it in the FCE Browser. You should now have two sequence tabs in your timeline - one for your original Sequence1 and another for your new Sequence2. Click the tab for Sequence2 to bring it to the front. Drag all the stills from the FCE Browser into the new Sequence2. Place them in Sequence2 in the order you want them.
Then click the tab for Sequence1 to activate it and bring it to the front. Then drag Sequence2 +from the FCE Browser+ to the video track above your existing track in Sequence1. (eg. on track V2, above track V1 in Sequence1). You have just nested Sequence2 in Sequence 1. From this point forward, +in Sequence1,+ you will be able to treat Sequence2 as if it were an +ordinary clip.+ I will now call it Clip2 instead of Sequence2.
Move Clip2 so it is directly above Clip1 so that both Clip2 and Clip1 start at the same point in the timeline. (The first frame of Clip2 on track V2 should align with the first frame of Clip1 on track V1.)
Then use the Pen Tool to put a keyframe at the beginning of the opacity overlay in Clip2, and another keyframe at the end of Clip2. Then drag the keyframe at the end of Clip2 down so the opacity overlay line is +downward sloping+ from the beginning of Clip2 to the end of Clip2.
Similarly, use the Pen Tool to place a keyframe at the beginning of the opacity overlay line of Clip1 and another keyframe at the point in Clip1 that is immediately below the end of Clip2. Then drag the first keyframe of the opacity overlay line down to the bottom of Clip1 so the opacity overlay is +upward sloping+ from the beginning of Clip1 to the second keyframe you placed in Clip1.
You should now have your crossfade across all your stills.

CS6 update does not show HTML5 option in Insert Bar... still seeing Media from CS5.5... ???

I've updated CS5.5 to CS6 repeatedly, and I've then installed the CS6 update for Dreamweaver... I don't have the HTML5 option in the Insert Bar...

You don't get option for HTML5. It is already there as part of HTML. The only thing you need to do is to set the default document type to HTML 5 as shown in this picture:
Once you have got the default document type, all your new pages will be HTML 5 compliant and the HTML codes you use will be HTML5 compliant and your pages will look identical on all HTML5 compliant browsers. All current browsers are HTML5 compliant to some degree. Even IE 10 and 11 is HTML5 compliant

Thanks for both of your replies. I'll tackle Premiere Pro in 2013 but for now the limited PSCS6 video capabilities are more than adequate for my current project. Thanks to Adobe for including video editing capability in CS6. The answer to my question seems obvious now that I grasp how simple, intuitive and automatic the video editing features are. I'm used to more complicated workflows! In additon to these forums and your responses I accessed a nice multi-part video tutorial on using the CS6 video editing functions at kelbytraining.com.

How to apply "scale to frame size" to a bunch of stills in CS4 and most likely all PP pro.

Hello, I was looking for an answer to this procedure after trying to use the "paste attribute" function; that is ticking this option on one picture, and pasting (as attribute) it to the rest of the stills. As this did not work I finally found a Youtube video showing how simple (and embarrassing) it was. - Just highlight all your stills on the timeline and right click anywhere on the selected area. Then click on the "scale to frame size" to put a tick against it. NB In my case though a few things happened when I tried, and one I remember was that my selection had already a still with the tick against the "resize..." (as I tried and erred various other ways) so it would not work, I guess because the program already could see the tick although it's only on one still. Most likely if I hadn't learned the "paste attribute" method I would have chosen this but here you are as an erratic user I opted for the less obvious possible method! I hope this entry will help people who want a quick answer to this situation. I'm a little surprised though as I thought I read somewhere that PP as "scale to frame size" as a default!

Yes that's right Bill, I think that's what the video did show and that I tried to share in "my discussion" But Ann explained to me how to turn it on as a default from Preference which is a smarter way to go about it, providing it's done before importing the pictures in the project window. Else, yes that the way to do it!
Actually it would be nice to be able to choose the size of the frame so to fit it directly into the safe area which ever is chosen, it would cut a couple of steps when animating the still, avoiding scaling into the safe area (I'm a dreamer!)

How to reverse the order of a bunch of still images in an iMovie Project

I'm making a stop motion animation using iMovie'09. I need to reverse the order of a few hundred of the images that I imported.
Does anybody know a good and time efficient way of doing this?

Ok, here's how have I done:
1. Removed those images from the movie project
2. Created a new project and added all the images which I want to reverse the order of
3. Set the durations of the images as same as those in my first project
4. Exported the project as a movie file
5. Added this short movie file to the first project
6. From clip adjustments menu, checked 'reverse'.
There, the subset of the whole collection is displayed in the reverse order.

How to use portrait still photos in Premier Pro CS4

I am new to Premier Pro and want to insert a bunch of still photos into a video I am making of a recent vacation. A lot of the photos have a portrait orientation, and when I import them into Premier Pro, they are automatically turned to landscape. Can you tell me an easy way to have the pictures flipped 90 degrees? I do not want to show the motion of the flipping - I just want the pictures to be oriented correctly. I am fine with a fill border on the sides of the pictures. Thank you!

Rotating still in the Effect Controls is somewhat work intensitive.
If you have Photoshop you can batch rotate them.
Otherwise open them in the Windows Viewer, rotate and close.
If al is well the still will now import correct.

Want a Simple Way to Insert a Simple Picture

I'm having trouble inserting a simple picture into a pages document. I don't care about anything fancy, the document is an academic paper and I just want a simple diagram with a few boxes and arrows. No colors, animation, bitmaps, etc. I created the diagram in Keynote first. Then I grouped all the boxes and arrows into one object and copied the object. Then I pasted the object into the Pages document. What I expected is the text would wrap around it and i might have to tweak that a bit. My preference is just to have text above and below the picture, no fancy text wrapping, the picture is wide enough it takes up the width of most of the page anyway. But the text and image seem to blur together.
Just to be clear, what I want should have the following layout shown in quotes below:
"Blah, blah, blah...as we can see in the diagram 1 below:
BOXES AND ARROW PICTURE GOES HERE
As we can see in diagram 1 above..."
I've tried anchoring the text with "below:" or "As we can see" but I can't figure out how to change the anchor. I position the cursor where I want the image to be (in the blank space that says BOXES above) but it seems to want to place it higher up (the little blue anchor thing isn't where I expect but further up in the paragraph) and I can't figure out how to change it and I've even -- and this just shows how desperate I am -- looked at the documentation and still can't figure it out.
I also tried various hacks like inserting a bunch of line breaks or even a new page all on it's own and the picture still ends up getting displayed strange. The picture takes up about .75 the width and .25 the height of a single page.
I know I must be doing something stupid and am probably missing something very basic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding where I draw the picture, are you saying it would be easier with Pages or should the behavior be pretty much equivalent either way?
I've always preferred using some simple graphics tool like Powerpoint or now Keynote for diagrams because I usually have lots of diagrams and I like to have them in a separate tool, sort of a repository for the pictures. Also, as in this case, the picture started out as part of a presentation and I think will migrate back to a presentation. For consistency and because at least with previous tools you could do more with graphics in a presentation tool I always have done it that way. But if the drawing tool in Pages works better I could use that.

Beginner Question - Inserting a Clip

I just started using iMovie HD (5.x) after my old version of Premiere suddenly quit working. I have a bunch of still images that I want to sync to a voiceover soundtrack. I put the entire sound track in and a few clips synced to the soundtrack while I'm waiting for the rest of the images. Now I have the other images and I can't seem to insert them into the timeline. If I drag a still image clip into the timeline, everything else after it moves to the right. I left gaps of just the right size to insert these clips, and even though their duration is shorter than the gaps, they still moves everything after to the right. I can find no mention of this anywhere in the help and I've tried every possible key combination while dragging. Is there any way to insert a clip into a gap in the timeline without moving everything in the timeline after it? Or do I have to remove everything after it and only work forward in time (like an old linear editing system)?
Oh, and this is unrelated, but there is no simple wipe transition?!?

I have gaps because I only had some of the images I needed, and I didn't want to wait until I had all of them to start putting the movie together. So I put the images I had where they go on the timeline, leaving gaps to insert the others later. Just like with any other non-linear video editing software I've ever used. So now it looks like I've wasted hours getting the images lined up with the voiceover, and now I have to go back and delete everything and start over with just the audio track. I guess iMovie just wasn't made for much beyond the simplest of editing.

to be clear... I have a form view and a table view
I have only one field(name) in the form view with an action button(copy to).
Table view also has one column (name1 = form1@name).
Still I'm not getting the expected output :(.

Just got back from a trip where I took a bunch of stills and videos using the my 3Gs. I just downloaded them onto my Mac using iPhoto.
1. How do get the video files from iPhoto into iMovie as it seems that iPhoto imported it all.
2. How do I get the images that were taken with Location services turned "ON" to display the location they were taken?
3. Will location mapping also work with iPhone video files?

Maybe someone in the iMovie discussion forum would know some of the specifics from iPhoto to iMovie. I thought I remember seeing a way to import straight from my iMove.

Will the microphone (for siri) when non-mic EarPods are inserted?

I have a spare pair of EarPods, and could maybe use it with my iPad mini Retina. However, my main concern is that the built in mic will be disabled when the non-mic EarPods are inserted. Does the built in mic stop itself when the EarPods are inserted or can I still use it?

Yes, the built-in mic will be disabled when the non-mic EarPods are inserted. The only way to use the built -in mic is removing the EarPods.
