Inserting user variables into MYSQL database using servlet

I have a servlet that recieves user entered parameters from an html form and inserts them into a user table in MYSQL, or at least is supposed to. I can get it to update the table with specific values but not with the user variables. I know the single quote marks are for inserting specific values but without them it doesn't properly work.
The parameters are parsed correctly into the variables, so I just can't figure out how to ge tthe variables into the database. Any help would be wonderful

I also realise that this is a more MYSQL titled problem, but those forums look rubbish <_<

Investigate PreparedStatement.
Currently you're trying to insert a value "Ufirst_name" instead of the value of the variable called Ufirst_name.
It's possible to do this (you could do something like this: "... '" + UfirstName + "' ...") but DEFINITELLY NOT RECOMMENDED. Instead use a prepared statement.

  • Issue of inserting greek characters into Oracle database using ICAN505

    Hi All,
    We are currently facing an issue of inserting greek characters into Oracle database using ICAN505.
    We receive a file containing greek characters.The values from the file should be inserted into the database.We are reading the file using file OTD with default encoding.
    The file can contain english characters too other than greek characters.
    The database NLS_CHARACTERSET is AL32UTF8.
    When I insert using an insert statement directly ,the values get inserted properly into the DB table.
    Inserting the same values using code results in improper characters getting inserted into the table in the database.
    Please help....
    Thanks in advance !!

    Globalization forum?
    Globalization Support
    It works for SQL Developer, which does not depend on NLS_LANG, so I suspect a problem with your NLS settings.

    I wanted to insert multiple images into database using JDBC by reading it from the file... and i am passing photos.txt(my text file) as an input parameter... I have inserted all the values into the database except for the image part... this is my content of photos.txt file and i have copied all the images into the folder
    *" C:\\photos "*

    *2,in2.jpg,187,21,in-n-out*

    *4,in4.jpg,477,52,in-n-out*
    *5,in5.jpg,530,50,in-n-out*
    and i want to store in1.jpg,in2.jpg,in3.jpg,in4.jpg,in5.jpg into the oracle databse using JDBC.... i have tried a lot using BLOB column.... and i have created my table as
    CREATE TABLE PHOTO(
    ID NUMBER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY ,
    Name BLOB,
    X DOUBLE PRECISION,
    Y DOUBLE PRECISION,
    Tags VARCHAR2(40)

    As i am able to enter one image file by above code in1.jpg in to the oracle database.... but i am not able to insert all the image file in to the database.....do tell me what should i do.... and can you give me the example on the basis of the above code of mine...
    do reply as soon as possible..

    that depends. Putting the images in BLOBs prevents the file locations stored in the database from getting out of synch with the filesystem when sysadmins decide to reorganise directory structures or "archive" "old" files that noone uses anyway.True, but it really comes down to a business decision (cost-benefit analysis). If you have the bucks, the expertise, and the time, go with the Blobs, otherwise go with the flat files.

    I dont know what table names and fields you have but
    say you have a table called XYZ which has a primary
    key field called keyID.
    So in order to get the last row inserted, you could
    do something like
    Select *
    from XYZ
    where keyID = (Select MAX(keyID) from XYZ);
    Good Luckwhat gubloo said is correct ...But this is all in MS SQL Server I don't know the syntax and key words in MYSQL
    This works fine if the emp_id is incremental and of type integer
    Query:
    select      *
    from      employee e,  (select max(emp_id) as emp_id from employee) z
    where      e.emp_id = z.emp_id
    or
    select top 1 * from employee order by emp_id descUday

  • Can you use ESB to insert multiple records into a Database

    We have an XML file that has a Parent/Child relationship.
    In situation 1 we have a single parent record in the xml file. We can insert the record into the database successfully.
    In situation 2 we have a parent and a an associated child record. By using a filter expression to identify the existence of the child record we can route to the first DB Adapter to insert the parent then to the second DB Adapter to insert the child.
    Is this final scenario logical and also possible.
    Situation 3 we have multiple child records associated to a single parent. So we would first insert the parent record then insert all the child records.
    Thanks

    I use PL/SQL for this if you are using Oracle.
    Have a look at this post, it is for AQ but the concept can be used for PL/SQL
    Re: Can I pass a pl/sql table as a parameter from a database adaptor
    I will send you an example

    i need ur help,we hav online site .Please don't use these juvenile abbreviations. It's impolite when you're asking for assistance not to make the effort to spell out all of the words. Moreover in a forum with an international readership the use of standard English will reduce the possibility of confusion.
    I presume that your file upload is being placed in a different directory from that which you were expecting. I would suggest logging all paths (specifically filename) to see if this is an unexpected value.
    Please explain further what you mean by "local" - is this a stand-alone application, or merely running a copy of the server on your local machine and doing the transfer (via the browser) to that? Are there any other differences such as the browser used?

  • Uploading a file into mySQL database?

    Hello, everybody.
    Can anyone give me a code snippet or at least a hint, how could I upload a file into the BLOB field of mySQL database using JSP webpage? How do you generally store uploaded files on the server? If anyone could suggest a good algorythm of saving the files in the server's file system and saving only their URLs in the database (this was my initial idea), I would be ready to accept this as well.
    Would be appreciated for any help.

    Hi
    Fou uploading the files from client site to server user the utility given by oreilly Go to this site and down the code for uploading the source code for fileupload
    For writing this code to database use this code
    code
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.io.*;
    class BlobTest {
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              try {
                   //File to be created. Original file is duke.gif.
                   DriverManager.registerDriver( new org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver());
                   Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://agt_229/test","manoj","manoj");
                   /*PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO BlobTest VALUES( ?, ? )" );
                   pstmt.setString( 1, "photo1");
                   File imageFile = new File("duke.gif");
                   InputStream is = new FileInputStream(imageFile);
                   pstmt.setBinaryStream( 2, is, (int)(imageFile.length()));
                   pstmt.executeUpdate();
                   PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT image FROM testblob WHERE Name = ?");
                   pstmt.setString(1, args[0]);
                   RandomAccessFile raf = new RandomAccessFile(args[0],"rw");
                   ResultSet rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
                   if(rs.next()) {
                        Blob blob = rs.getBlob(1);
                        int length = (int)blob.length();
                        byte [] _blob = blob.getBytes(1, length);
                        raf.write(_blob);
                   System.out.println("Completed...");
              } catch(Exception e) {
                   System.out.println(e);

  • Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP

    I'm trying to set up a database of loan agreements, where users will submit a form through Acrobat and their information will be stored in a mySQL database. Later, they can go back and download the PDF, which will be repopulated with their data in the mySQL db.
    I made the form in Livecycle Designer and submit the information through HTTP POST. I can easily get the information from the form into the database...my only problem is getting that information back out into the PDF.
    What would allow me to write back to the PDF, preferably using PHP? What kind of syntax would that require?
    Thanks!

    I have a vital form that clients fill out, which is passed to many people in the company along the workflow. The form is a Planner and we have in the following PDF, Word Doc..
    Well before, the Planner.pdf was originally created in Word, since most people have access to Word.. but evolved to a PDF form created from the Word Doc via Adobe LiveCycle Designer 8.0 w/ User Rights enabled so that the form could be filled out and saved using Adobe Reader.. which was a step better than Word.. being that it is free. But this needed to be easier and more to the point b/c some clients don't particularly like installing the latest version of Reader, even if you provide them the link. Nor do they like saving the form, filling the form, and attaching the form to send back.
    My goal is to have the client fill an HTML version of the form, submit and be done with it, but everyone in the workflow be able to easily receive the filled Planner as a PDF form.
    So some months ago I ran into this post Chris Trip, "Populate Livecycle PDF from mySQL database using PHP" #8, 22 Sep 2007 4:37 pm
    which uses the command line Win32 pdftk.exe to merge an FDF file into an existing PDF on the remote server, and serve this to whoever.
    My problem was with shared hosting and having the ability to use the Win32 pdftk.exe along with PHP which is predominantly used on Linux boxes. And we used a Linux box.
    so i created the following unorthodox method, which a client fills the HTML version of the Planner, all field values are INSERTED into a table in MySQL DB, I and all filled planners that have been filled by clients to date can be viewed from a repository page where an XML file is served up of the corresponding client, but someone would have to have Acrobat Professional, to import the form data from the XML file into a blank form.. altoughh this is simple for me.. I have the PHP file already created so that when a Planner is filled and client submits. >> the an email is sent to me with a table row from the repository of the client name, #, email, and a link to d-load the XML file,
    But I also have the PHP files created so that the Planner can be sent to by email to various people in the workflow with certain fileds ommitted they they do not need to see, but instead of the XML file beiong served up i need the filled PDF Planner to be served.
    I can do this locally with ease on a testing server, but I am currently trying to use another host that uses cross-platform compatibility so i can use PHP and the pdftk.exe to achieve this, as that is why I am having to serve up an XML file b/c we use a Linux server for our website, and cant execute the exe.
    Now that I am testing the other server (cross-platform host), just to use them to do the PDF handling (and it's only $5 per month) I am having problems with getting READ, WRITE, EXECUTE permissions..
    Si guess a good question to ask is can PHP do the same procedure as the pdftk.exe, and i can eleminate it.
    or how in the heck can i get this data from the DB into a blank PDF form, like i have described??

  • Problem with inserting two BLOBs into a table using setBinaryStream

    DBMS 9.2.0.1.0, Oracle JDBC driver 10.1.0.2.0
    The following code insert in one INSERT two BLOBs
    into two columns using PreparedStatement.setBinaryStream(). When the size of the of at least one blob exceeds
    some limit (? 2k, 4k ?), the values are swapped and
    inserted into wrong columns.
    Please, is this a problem in JDBC driver?

    yes driver class is there in that .
    2)Now i am using new version of the mysqljdbc that is 2.0.13
    If now any driver after this send me url i will download it and use it

    <% date= request.getParameter("date"); %>
    <% month= request.getParameter("month"); %>
    <% year= request.getParameter("year"); %>
    try
    { Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"); }
    catch (ClassNotFoundException exception)
    try
         Connection connection = null;
         out.println("connectiong the database");
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@127.0.0.1:1521:orcsid","scott","tiger");
    out.println("connection getted");
         int rows = 0;
         String query_2 = "insert into mrdetails values(?)";
         String dob = date+month+year;
         prepstat = connection.prepareStatement(query_2);
         prepstat.setTimestamp(4,dob);
         rows = prepstat.executeUpdate();
         out.println("data updated");
    catch (Exception exception3)
    out.println("Exception raised"+exception3.toString());
    }

    To insert date values into a database, you should use java.sql.Date. If it also has a time component, then java.sql.TimeStamp.
    Your use of prepared statements is good.
    You just need to convert the parameters into a date.
    One way to do this is using java.text.SimpleDateFormat.
    int rows = 0;
    String query_2 = "insert into mrdetails values(?)";
    String dob = date+"/" + month+ "/" + year;
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SImpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
    java.util.Date javaDate = sdf.parse(dob);
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(javaDate .getTime);
    prepstat = connection.prepareStatement(query_2);
    prepstat.setTimestamp(4,sqlDate);
    rows = prepstat.executeUpdate();
    out.println("data updated");Cheers,
