Install disappears

I am attempting to download and install Adobe Reader on an employees laptop, running Windows Vista Business. When the download and installation both reach 100%, the dialog box showing the progress disappears, and Adobe Reader is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Thank you for any help you may provide.

  • Itunes wont install--disappears after "publishing product information"

    Hello,
When I install itunes, it will reach "publishing product information" and then suddenly disappear. I have read the posts, disabled my firewall, and looked at the support articles online--none of which have resolved my issue.
    Do you have any suggestions?

    hi Katrina!
IF you are running DCOMCNFG to fix something, does that mean you got an error 1607?
here's what i think is going on with this poor chap.
our "publishing product quit"/1607 KB doc got revised on 31 january 2006:
iTunes for Windows installation quits while publishing product information
... and there's now an alternate set of treatment possibilities given in there for XP home users. people are being linked to the DCOM settings tip over at InstallShield:
Configure the DCOM Settings on Your Computer
so i think here that our OP has a "publishing product information" quit version of this problem, and followed up on that link, which is why DCOMCNFG got mentioned.

  • OfficejetPro8500 All-in-One Printer: sometimes install disappears from WIN-XP computer

Installed the HP 8500 printer a few months ago for a client. Install worked fine with no immediate problems (not using Wi-Fi, just a direct USB connection). Over the last few weeks, sometimes, after booting the computer (Pentium 4, 1GB RAM, WIN-XP SP3), the HP 8500 printer isn't recognized by Windows at all (as if it was never installed). After shutting down the computer and rebooting, the printer is recognized.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP 8500 software, but that didn't solve the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
Is there a patch or updated driver/software I should install?
    Thank you,
    K. D. Kragen
PS. I always by HP computers and peripherals, for myself and my clients, have for years. They are the longest lasting and best hardware out there.

First of all, thanks for being a loyal HP customer!
I don't believe there is any updated software.  12.0 is the current revision and was release in Jan. 2009.
Of course, upon boot, the computer will look for USB connected devices.  So, it appears it is not seeing the 8500 sometimes.  I would start with swapping for a known good USB cable that supports bi-directional communication (any new USB 2.0 certified cable should do).
If that does not work, note whether the printer is in standby (sleep) mode during boot or whether it is awake.  This may yield some additional clues.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Photoshop "disappeared" after working with it...

Not sure what happened. I deactivated my Web Premium suite (CS5) on my old computer, then uninstalled it. I installed the suite on my new computer, with no problems, then worked with Photoshop. I closed it out after a couple hours (I work from home, using PS), and when I came back to do more work after a couple hours, there was only a PS folder with a Locales folder, a Read Me document, and a Samples folder in it. No PS!
I tried reinstalling it, making sure all the products were checked. Still no PS!
I NEED PS for my work! The man with whom I spoke in the instant chat provided me a link for the download of the suite, but I still want my disk to work.
Any ideas as to why the install "disappeared"??? And, why it will not install again?
The Adobe person said my serial number is good, but he could not tell me why this happened.

    No go.
I don't get it. I reinstalled on the old computer, made sure to deactivate on ALL the software that gave that option, then uninstalled the suite. So, it should be uninstalled and deactivated.
I tried, AGAIN, to install the suite, to no avail. I get some folders with the names of the softwares, but there are no actual installation files, apparently. The major programs (DW, PS, Illustrator, etc.) will not open.
And, of course, Adobe, in all their greed, refuse to support CS5, and will not give me any answers. The link that the "support" person gave me did not work, either, for the download and install.
Guess I'm in the wrong profession. I refuse to use their "Cloud" and pay every year when I read of so many designers who are still using 2, 3, and 4! With no problems!
I have even gone so far as to call Apple support to see if "maybe" there is some issue with my computer. Right now, I'm trying to install, again, in a different user to see if some how there is an issue with that. Per Apple's support tech.
I don't know what else to do, so if anybody here can give me more suggestions, I'd be glad to try! I'm losing valuable work time.

  • Adobe Acrobat disappeared all at once

For some mystery reasons that the entire workstations (100 computers) in my company that had Adobe Acrobat installed disappeared just overnight. This morning I came in and all the users come to me and ask where is adobe acrobat, so I looked in their computer ...there is not even one tiny footprint of Acrobat anywhere.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I assume you had Acrobat installed on all of the systems. Just for information, what types of operating systems and version of Acrobat were running?
The fact that all 100 machines are missing Acrobat is strange. Typically, removal of Acrobat still leaves the installed folder in the Program Files folder. You might also see if there is anything in the recycle bin. What you are describing sounds like a deliberate attack, but it is something that you would have to trace. If possible, you might want to check the network logs for any suspicious activity.
Good luck. You have a strange problem and I really can't think of anything else to help at this point.

  • App installs then disappears

    iPhone 5s with iOS 7.0.3
With restrictions OFF any app I install will disappear from the home screen the moment it finishes installing.
I've tried the following to no avail:
    * App Store: click 'Open' button - nothing happens
    * App Store: any app I previously purchased but not on the phone that I download/install disappears as I described above
    * App Store: any new app I download/install disappears as I described above
    * Spotlight: tried searching for the app, other apps show up but not the new app
    * In iTunes: these apps show in the list as installed but nowhere on my home screen / pages / folders
    * In iTunes: I've tried removing and installing the app - doesn't help
    * iPhone: I've tried hard resetting the phone several times
    * iPhone: I've tried resetting my Home Screen layout, app still doesn't appear
I had restrictions enabled, but did not restrict any of the install/delete/update applications settings.  This started happening when I tried to download/install 'Cal | Calendar' by Any.do and at the time I had restrictions enabled with only Safari set to be off.
Is this a bug?  Please help.

Quit the App Store app and reset the phone.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Lost messages appear in Spotlight but not in any mail folders

The first week of June, PowerBook G4 crashed and wouldn't start up again while using Mail. Went to the Genius Bar, they said a corrupt mail file probably brought down the system-we did an archive install and transferred all the messages to Entourage and then re-imported them back to Mail.
When this happened all "sent mail" from Feb 1 until the June 3rd re-install disappeared. I just accepted this. Today, when searching for stuff in Spotlight, some of these "sent mail" messages turned up in Spotlight and when clicked they display. It appears that what I have sent during those missing months is avialable in Spotlight but not to me in Mail.
I have no idea where these messages actually are and how to get them back into a folder in Mail?
Any thoughts. I have the lastest update and have done the usual of Disk Utility, Repair Permissions, Rebuilt my folders, etc.

The Archive & Install did not transfer all existing
Mail.app mailboxes/messages to the new install which
required using Entourage to import all existing
    Mail.app data?
If so, the Entourage import does not delete existing
    data - it imports only.
Have you deleted the archived previous system
    folder?
    Something to try.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home >
Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the
copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail >
Envelope Index. Delete the Envelope Index file and
    empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all
mailboxes available within the Mail folder at Home >
    Library > Mail.
Select OK and allow the process to complete. This
isn't importing anything but replacing the deleted
Envelope Index file and re-indexing all mailboxes.
After the archive and install, Mail crashed immediately upon opening when using the former Mail folder and its contents. The only way to get Mail to open was to export to Entourage and re-import into Mail. Mail then opened but Feb-June sent messages were missing.
I assumed one or more of the messages was corrupt and was what brought down the system. I just accepted that I would miss those messages. Then in a Spotlight search, the messages started turning up but with no idea of where they are residing.
I did delete after two weeks the previous system folder.
I did try what you asked by making a new envelope index but it didn't help.
I am at the Apple Store in Tokyo right now. Someone who converses in English understands my problem but has no answers.

  • SAPDB in status STOPPED INCORRECTLY due to file system failure

    Hi community,
we have a problem with our SAPDB server.
The file system on which the whole database is installed disappeared form the list of filesystem mounted because of hardware problems,  the database instances crashed. Now the problem should be technically solved, the filesystem is mounted again and files should be not corrupted
The first problem was to start the x server, If I tried to start it replied with the following error:
    en950_GetProgramExecPath failed:
OS_ERROR  0: No system errortext for ERRNO 0
RTE_ERROR 1: Open Registry:No such file or directoryIndepPrograms
I resolved the problem looking at the file in directory /var/spool/sql/ini and changing the extensions of two files:
    SAP_DBTech.ini from Registry_dcom.ini.cnt01
    SAP_DBTech.ini from SAP_DBTech.ini.cnt01
Now the x server starts correctly, but the state of the 2 SAPDB instances appears as STOPPED INCORRECTLY
    My questions:
    - Why the configuration files had that (wrong) extension ?
    - What is the correct procedure to try to start the instances in this case?
    Regards, Valerio

    > The file system on which the whole database is installed disappeared form the list of filesystem mounted because of hardware problems,  the database instances crashed. Now the problem should be technically solved, the filesystem is mounted again and files should be not corrupted
SHOULD is the keyword of the last sentence!

    > SAP_DBTech.ini from Registry_dcom.ini.cnt01
    > SAP_DBTech.ini from SAP_DBTech.ini.cnt01
Hmm... one thing is for sure: the MaxDB software does not rename these files!
    > Now the x server starts correctly, but the state of the 2 SAPDB instances appears as STOPPED INCORRECTLY
Did you had a look into the KNLDIAG files?
    > My questions:
    > - Why the configuration files had that (wrong) extension ?
    No idea? Storage/Filesystem issue?
    Bad user?
    > - What is the correct procedure to try to start the instances in this case?
Depending on how much is broken here... reinstall the software from scratch and either re-register the instances or perform a restore and recovery of them.

  • Can't download apps from appstore 3.1.3 fw

    Hi there,
I have an iPhone 3g with the last fw I can use: 3.1.3 and I can't download any app from the app store, once I press the button "Free" (Gratis, in my languaje) the button install disappear and I can't download nothing. I've been doing some research and it seems like this issue happened before... around dec/2011. Can you work on it, because restoring my device a couple times hasn't helped.
    Thanks.

memoforteza---> If you have an iPhone 3G, you should be able to update to iOS 4.2.1. Of course, that may make your iPhone very very slow.
ED3K, no update for me, 3.1.3 is latest for my iPod.
Also, the iPod is not a phone.

  • Elements 11 freezes

I have an iMac and until today had no trouble opening Elements 11. The Editor screen opens then will not allow anything further. Help please?  Should I unistall then re-install? Will I lose all the actions etc I have installed?
    Many thanks in advance
    GilliMe

    Hi
I was not able to open the screen as shown in your response:
Right click on 'PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe' and select 'Run as Admin' (similar to step #3 of workflow1 for Organizer). Just after this keep on pressing 'Ctrl+Alt+Shift' on Windows (or Command+Option+Shift on Mac). You will get following dialog: (etc)
I tend not to use the Organiser either as I have iPhoto but tend to store all my photos in the folder Pictures in the Finder. I also have a PC and use folders in a similar way to that on the Mac.
Uninstalling the program and then re-installing Elements worked well.  The only problem is that having done that all the new fonts I had installed disappeared from the Mac list of fonts!  I am reinstalling those but one at a time and then checking that Photohop opens.  Some fonts had a caution by them but I have not installed those. I'm not Mac savvy enough do do anything more complicated.
Thank you again for your help.

  • What happened to facebook exporter for iphoto?

I keep getting an error when trying to share photos from iphoto to facebook. I have tried all the common things, but now I see that there is no longer facebook exporter for iphoto. I have had this Macbook Air since May, and was able to share photos via iphoto exporter to facebook, and now all of a sudden it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had Iphoto exporter plugin installed previously and it would show up on file-export as an option. Then mysteriously it was gone as an option. I tried to download the plugin again from Cnet and when I try to install it I get and error saying "It can't be opened because of an inidentified developer my security preferences only allow installation of only apps from your Mac app store and identified developers"
How do I turn off that security so I can reinstall it again. As for why my original install disappeared I am mystified about that. Why was it there one month and then poof gone the next month?
I like that 3rd party plugin as it lets me caption all the photo's and rearrange the order and write a discription all in one application. It works better than the share button way of doing it to facebook.
Is it not compatible with Iphoto 9.4.1?

  • Rebuilt Library in iPhoto 5

    Hi guys,
My friend recently "lost" all of her photos on her Powerbook G4 and iPhoto wouldn't open. They were still being used for her screensaver but she couldn't find them anywhere in finder using spotlight.
I helped her to re-build the library using iPhoto Library Manager and the files were moved to another hard drive. (hers filled up before the end of the re-build at the first attempt.)
However, even though all of the thumbnails are now back in iPhoto and the albums are happily brimming with photos again, when she tries to browse the rebuilt library in finder, the directry structure has changed. The albums are divided by year as before, but now have random numbers rather than names and not all of the photos are there. Also, they have been moved to random places chronologically. (photos taken in 2008 now in 2003 folder etc.)
Does this need a 'Repair Permissions'? Will this work if the rebuilt library in on an external drive? Any other tips?
    Thank you in advance!

If you prefix a quote with a > then you'll get that italic effect. Good for clarity.
    Thanks.
iPhoto is a database. It's not an image viewer.
I had no idea, as on the surface it look like every other image viewer I've used, but point taken.
The point is simple: do you want to manage and work with the files or the Photos? If you want to work with the Files, use the File Manager - the Finder. If you want to use manage the Photos use iPhoto.
I would say the point is that, for other software I've used, "photo" and "file" are not treated as mutually exclusive. But guess this goes back to the database thing. I would question the amount of extra functionality that this "database" offers over a viewer though.
And this way you have exactly a two ways to find your photos: date taken or Filename.
If you use iPhoto you can search for that photo by date, filename, title, filename, keywords, camera model, lens, aperture and more, plus any compound of them.
I think we're at cross purposes here. You seem to be answering a different point to the one I was making. Mine referred to having to open iPhoto in the first place, so the search options offered within iPhoto are irrelevant.
If you were in email and using Apple's Mail programme then click on the Photo Browser as indicated above. Find the photo and drag it to the message window. Or use the Attach command as indicated in the first illustration above. Or use a media Browser. Or just drag and drop from the iPhoto Window or... or... or...
You mentioned Entourage earlier. Is the same the case for that?
If you have more than 100 photos, if they were taken on more than one date, there is no way the rooting through the iPhoto Library Folder is faster.
With the speed at which iPhoto a) loads and b) scrolls the thumbnails for large albums, I doubt that. (I'm speaking from experience here at least, if nowhere else)
Yes I'm aware what the word means. Here's another way of looking at it: Integrated throughout the OS. There is nothing negative about this. Don't want to use iPhoto? Don't. Don't want to use some of the features? Don't. They're opportunities, that's all.
Freedom to choose is all very well, but when the vast majority of casual or "domestic" users make the migration from PC to Mac, or from whatever photo "management" software they are using to iPhoto, I would wager that they are unaware of how much the integration of iPhoto will affect their ability to work in their chosen way.
(I think that, given the nature and number of similar post on the discussion boards, its a pretty safe bet.)
It certain isn't implicit when iPhoto's dialogue pops up to entice you to import your photos with it.
Depending on which version of iPhoto you use, there are some similar tools to Lightroom, but Lightroom is a pro level application, iPhoto is geared for the domestic point and shoot user primarily. There's a price difference too.
You're right, there is. And I think you get what you pay for. Tons of features and tools, and robust file management.
That said, if you find iPhoto difficult, good luck with Lightroom
I do find iPhoto difficult. However, the difficulty is of its own making.
As a user of Lightroom, I have absolutely no difficulty in using the file management part of the software, which is where the difficulties seem to arise for iPhoto. In fact, its probably more intuitive.
I've certainly not had any of the aforementioned issues regarding permissions, having the wrong font installed, disappearing photos and corrupting libraries by either browsing my file manager, or breathing too hard near the directory structure.
The main issue would now seem to be how to get the photos back safely from iPhoto into a viewer that does essentially as much as iPhoto, but with a lot less fuss.
Is drag and drop from within iPhoto (and having to copy everything from one location to another) the only way to do this?

  • Lion update problem

I updated my iMac without a problem to Lion.  I went to updated my wife's MacBook Pro.  I downed Lion from the app store.  I was asked for my password.  Then the install disappeared and I was back to the Snow Leopard desktop.  I went back to the App store but the store indicates that Lion is installed and won't let me reinstall.  I checked and I am still running Leopard.

    Did you oprion-click the 'Tab"?
I located the installer in the application folder and clicked on it.  Its appears to be installing as I reply ( on another computer ).
    Cheers
    Great!

I am having OSX start up problems. I have tried save mode, starting from my Snow leopard DVD, resetting the SMC.
The strange thing is that the Mac HD seems to have disappeared. When I tried to reinstall Snow Leopard the Mac HD wasn't even put forward as an option.
Now it gets stranger as XP works fine under bootcamp, I can see the HD and all files seems to be there. So in effect I now have a Windows Mac...who would have throught
Anybody any suggestions before I spend a bundle on repair ?
    Thanks!

I had the same problem, I don't know about you but I got used to just restarting and holding down the option key to switch between each OS. However, when my mac install 'disappeared' I went into the bootcamp control panel via the windows partition and selected to reboot in mac mode and it worked, even though the alt key restart did not.
So you can try that if you have not already.
There is definitely a larger problem here though, I think a firmware update seems to be needed...

I've had MS Office:mac 2011 on my imac for around 18 months now.  Outlook has just disappeared and when I find the file and open it it tells me that there is a problem and I may need to re-install it.  I've just done this using the installation disc which, then said the installation had been successful.

Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences.
