Install failed on my laptop
Hi,
i'm trying install Java Studio Creator on my laptop, and it doesn't work.
First, i notice that on my desktop, everything is ok. But on my laptop (i'm running under linux debian), the setup reaches 12%, then in the section "AppServer8", it goes directly to the end of the setup, and say me : "Error encountered while installing Sun Java Studio Creator. Please review the log file under this directory: /opt/Creator"
I'd searched on the net some answer to my problem, so i changed my install directory, first removing properly the last installation, i tried in root, in simple user, i don't have any productfile to rename in /var/tmp/, and my install.log is visible here : http://gpglinux.free.fr/install.txt

I'm trying to re-install itunes on my laptop & I am getting a message that has stopped the re-install & it says: "Service 'Apple Mobile Device" (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. You seem to have installED iTunes and are trying to connect your iDevice, is that right?

Your statement - "installING" - also might indicate that you have insufficient privileges in Windows to properly install & use iTunes.

I've installed Photoshop CS5 on a new latop but it doesn't recognize my RAW files. Additionally, repeated attempts to perform available updates have failed. The laptop has Windows 8.1 64Bit.
I don't know who you talked to, but some of the support techs tend to look at CS5 as "no longer sold or supported" and usually don't want to mess with it.

Question: The desktop on which I had Lightroom and PhotoshopCC installed failed and I no longer have access to it. How do I deactivate the software on those machines so that I can reinstall it on my new Mac?
Absolutely - but I had no idea there were two versions. When I got my new laptop I just went to the Adobe site to download and install LR5. It never asked if I had a license; it just directed me to install CC to start a trial which I thought I could license after downloading. Several sessions and many hours of looking through the forums and Google for an answer I never ran across anything that made this distinction. I still haven't found a path from www.adobe.com that would get me to the standalone download page (it's probably there, wasn't obvious to me) and looking at the download page it doesn't make any CC/standalone distinction.
There are many places I could have gotten a hint - for instance the license could be tagged "stand alone edition", the CC-version could recognize the stand-alone key and either accept it or produce a more meaningful error message, or the download site or the CC app could ask if I had previously purchased a key, etc.
It was my error to assume this was a deactivation problem, but it looked the same as a previous deactivation problem with Photoshop.

I have a new PC laptop with Windows 7 and Office 2010. I have an Airport Extreme, and installed Bonjour on my laptop. Bonjour "sees" my printer. When I try to print, the printer lights up -- but doesn't print. anyone have an idea? Thanks Gregg

How do I install on desktop and laptop computer
I downloaded the Mac 10.7.2 Lion software onto my iMac. I want to also install the download to my laptop computers. However, it only showed up on my iMac and I don't see how to install it on my laptops. Do I have to buy the OS for each device? Isn't there a way to download the software so I can upgrade all of my computers so I can start using iCloud?
If you didn't save the installer then it was erased after the upgrade. You need to install Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on your other computers to access the App Store. Sign in with the same Apple ID you used for your purchase. Click on the Purchases icon in the App Store toolbar. You may then re-download the Lion installer without having to pay for it again.
I suggest that you see the following:
Make Your Own Lion Installer
1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that you can use without having to re-download Lion. -
After installing yosemite on my laptop, once I open the internet through Safari, it at times will freeze or discontinue working causing me to close the wifi and turn it back on then reload the internet page to get it to work again. Is there any way to fix this?
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Install Failed
Trying to upgrade a Power Mac Dual G5 from Mac OS X Tiger to Leopard 10.5. When I try to install the Leopard Disc, I keep getting an "Install Failed" message. This is what is said:
Install Failed
Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer
The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again.
Now, I've used this disc once before for an upgrade on a laptop and worked fine, just started to fail when used on the G5. The disc is not scratched, nor looks damaged. Not sure why it's saying damaged? Any insightful knowledge would be appreciated.
Thanks!The install disks I have are the ones he got with his Mac Mini. Are there different install disks for iMacs? On the disks themselves, it says "for Mac computers."
Do I have to buy an OS which is specifically for iMac?
The discs that came with his computer have only the necessary software pieces needed to run his computer--it lacks the drivers that would be needed run your iMac. (In addition, installing the same copy of the OS on two computers would be a violation of the license, even if it worked.)
You need to buy a retail version of Leopard or Snow Leopard. Since your iMac has an intel processor, you can buy the cheaper Snow Leopard ($29) from the "Store" tab at the top of this page or anywhere that sells Mac software. -
Hi all,
I recently installed Mavericks on my laptop. I have an Ethernet cable I connect to my modem to gain access to the internet. I have another Ethernet cable I use on my desktop computer and I connect THAT cable to the modem when I want to gain access on the desktop. Right now, I have access to the internet on my laptop but not on my desktop. The internet service provider checked everything and could not find a problem. They suggested I contact Apple. Is there any connection between my recent upgrade to OS X Maverick on my laptop and my internet connection issue on the desktop? Last thing, the internet service provider suggested that the problem lies in some setting or preference...Thank you in advance!Unless you router is an Apple Airport, I doubt that updating your laptop would have changed anything, but who knows.
I would recommend trying to hold the reset button on your router for 30 seconds. This may fix the issue, but this will probably erase all of your router's settings like wifi passwords and stuff like that.

If you don't want to risk completely resetting your router, I would suggest trying the following:
– On your laptop (which has a connection)
– Go to System Preferences >> Network >> Advanced >> TCP/IP
– Write down the IP number next to "Router"
– – – Mine looks like this: 192.168.1.125
– Go to your browser (Safari etc.) and go to http://RouterIP
– – – Where "RouterIP" is the number you wrote down before. Mine looks like this: http://192.168.1.125
This will take you to your router's settings page.
It will probably ask you for a username and password. They probably are:
User: admin
password: admin
or
User: admin
Password: your router/wifi password
Look all the settings on this site and see if everything is set to reasonable values.

If all else fails, then it's probably something to do with the settings on your desktop PC.

Can't install updates to my laptop
I have photoshop 12 on my desktop. I am visiting my daughter and want to install it on my laptop so I can work while I am there. I understand that you can have the program on a second computer like a laptop as long as you don't use both computers at the same time. I have photoshop on the laptop, but when I try to download the update, it says that it fails because there is no record of my basic program. I put in the serial number etc. I need to get this done. I have spent nearly all day trying to get this thing to worl. Can anyone help me? Please no shots in the dark...lolol.
