Install Second Primary Server in a 11.3.1 FRU1 zone

Hi I'm having a weird problem with installing a second PS in to a upgraded singel PS zone. I just got the singel server upgraded to 11.3.1 FRU1/SLES11.3 and database on MSSQL 2012.
That is working great, no issues with the singel server.
But when I try to install the new server as a PS to the existing zone I get this error, "This version of ZENworks is not compatible with the version (10.3.0) found in the zone"...10.3.0 ???
I tried to look for any clueds in the ZenServerVersion.xml file after finding TID7014023, https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7014023. The file says 11.3.1 in the file.
Why do I get the 10.3.0. message and how can I correct this?
Any Ideas?

Kkb,
I can confirm this happens - if you can open a SR with Novell, that's
the quickest way to get this moving - meanwhile I will report it to
Novell, also

  • Second primary server : something to do on the workstations?

    Hi,
I have installed a second primary server in the zone, and this server has been moved up in the list of closest server default rules.
I am about to follow the "Replacing the First Primary Server with the Second Primary Server" procedure. The plan is to decommission the older server.
However I have a concern about the workstations. The agent on them has been installed from the first primary server, so is there something to do on the workstations so that they will stop connecting to the server from which the agent was installed?
Another point: both servers are using an external CA, so I guess I don't have to do the "Export the Certificate Authority role" part?
    Thanks,
    Marc Delisle

There is nothing you "have to do".
A "zac retr" could be useful, but hard to script.
In short, if a device ever stops talking to the zone because something
goes wrong, it will use the details in the "initial-web-service" file to
recontact the zone. The details in this file are for the server from
    which the agent was installed.

  • Second Primary Server

Last week I setup a second primary server for redundancy. Everything seemed to work well so I left it alone for several days so everything could sync up. I started getting calls that Vista / 7 logins were very slow, users would press CTRL-ALT-DEL to login and get a blank screen for a few mins before logging in. Once logged in life was good. I checked DNS and everything looked OK both ways. I removed Zen from that server and had a lab of 40 machines refresh then reboot. The problem was gone. Any thoughts on what could cause this?
    It's Zen 10.3.3 on a 2008R2 server (both were)
MSSQL 2005 Enterprise for the DB
    Thanks for any input!

Thanks for getting back to me guys. It was just a plain install of Zen selecting an exsisting domain and running through the wizard. It placed the server in the servers list in the configuration console. I did not notice if it was hammering the SQL server or not - however about 1/2 of the machines were working perfectly. Would there be any logs I can check anywhere?
    Thanks again!

  • Installing second Exchange server 2010 with all roles (CAS, HT and MB) in the same domain?!

    Dear all,
first of all thanks for reading this topic :-)
In our enviroment, we have a Exchange 2010 server (Version: 14.01.0438.000), whitch is installed with all server roles (CAS, HT and MB) on one server(OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise). This exchange server sends all external mails to a smarthost (Redddox).
We are using Outlook Anywhere, Active Sync and OWA.
Now, we need to migrate this Exchange server to another one, because we think, that the server´s OS is corrupt and also, there are wrong licenses installed. The "new" server will have the same OS Version and Exchange Version (2010).
Currently I´m a little afraid, to install a new one - because I think when I will install the CAS and HT role, something will happen in my productive enviroment (Autodiscover, SMTP Connectors, Cerficates a.s.o.).
To install the mailbox role, I think this will not affect anything.
Can you help me a little bit in what to take care of? Do I need to preconfigure something, before I will install the second exchange? What about the version / service pack of Exchange to install? Must it be the same as installed on the first one?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Jennie

    Hi Jennie,
Below are the steps if you are not planning to upgrade.
    1) Install new Exchange2010-SP3 Server all roles Please check
    this
    2) Install the certificate in the new server by requesting a duplicate from the 3rdparty CA. Or export from the existing Exchange 2010 and import to the new one. Please check
    this
    3) Set your autodoscover, OAB, ECP, OWA URLs same as the current Exchange. Below artciles will help you to do that.
For OAB, Autodiscover, EWS please check steps 5,6,7in this
For setting OWA and ECP URLs please check
    this.
    4) Move few mailboxes as a test and check. If no errors move the rest.
    5) Move your OAB generation server to the new server. Please check
    this
    6) Move you public folder contents to the new server you have. Please check
    this
    7) Configure your firerwall to receive emails on the new server and other services like EWS, OWA, ActiveSync.
    8)
Add the new server as the source server and in the current send connector and remove the old server from the send connector.
Shutdown the server for a couple of days and monitor. So you will know if you missed something.
Uninstall Exchange2010 from the add remove programs.
    Thanks, MAS

  • Can't Install SCCM Primary Server

On installing the Primary site, which connects to Central Server, I get the following error as "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation"
I was not able to connect to WMI and all the required ports are open. The trust relation is also in place.
Wondering if someone can help me troubleshoot the same. The following thing have been checked.
My id is added as member of administrator in CAS server
My id is added as sysadmin in the CAS SQL
MY id is set as Full Administrator in the SCCM Console.
Checked and confirmed port 445 and 135 is open between this SCCM server and the CAS Server
WMI connect gives the following error
    Number: 0x800706ba
    6) Taking the share on CAS server gives the error saying "System cannot contact a Domain Controller to service the authentication request. Please try again later"
However entering the local server privilege connects its later.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, you don't really need a 'reason' to allow a primary site to connect to a CAS, you can do that regardless of the reason why.
Since you already have more than one primary site under the CAS, you should know the requirements for it. But ports are essential, but also admin rights to the CAS SQL Server. The TechNet docs should cover everything for you.
And, since the CAS already has child primary sites under it, this has to be a brand new primary site (not an expansion scenario). That is what you are implying.
The error code is "RPC Server is unavailable" so check that out also.

  • Install second dsfw server fails at restart dsfw services

seems that 'rcxad-krb5kdc start' is (at least a symptom of) the problem:
    Code:
    # rcxad-krb5kdc start
Waiting for LDAP server to be ready ...
Starting Kerberos KDCstartproc: exit status of parent of /opt/novell/xad/sbin/krb5kdc: 1
    failed
    /var/opt/novell/xad/log/ndsd.log has lines like:
    Code:

-1255356672: LDAP: [Tue Jul 30 15:30:38 2013] FATAL: NlGetLocatorConfiguration: Could not get forest name from directory
    /var/opt/novell/xad/log/kdc.log shows:
    Code:
krb5kdc: No such entry in the database - while initializing database for realm ACPS.INT
so TID 7009851 says to do ldapsearch:
    Code:
    tcdsfw:/ # export LDAPCONF=/etc/opt/novell/xad/openldap/ldap.conf
    tcdsfw:/ # ldapsearch -v -Y EXTERNAL -LLL -Q -b "cn=tcdsfw,ou=Domain Controllers,dc=acps,dc=int" uniquedomainid
    ldap_initialize( <DEFAULT> )
    filter: (objectclass=*)
    requesting: uniquedomainid
Other (e.g., implementation specific) error (80)
which would point to some sort of ldap problem in general, not necessarily what the TID was trying to fix. Because, in fact. I can successfully perform the same query on the working dsfw server:
    Code:
    codsfw:/ # ldapsearch -Y EXTERNAL -LLL -Q -b "cn=tcdsfw,ou=Domain Controllers,dc=acps,dc=int" uniquedomainid
    dn: cn=RID Set,cn=TCDSFW,ou=Domain Controllers,dc=acps,dc=int
    uniquedomainid: 1049076
    dn: cn=TCDSFW,ou=Domain Controllers,dc=acps,dc=int
    uniquedomainid: 1049076
But ldap seems to be working, a query like
    ldapsearch -v -LLL -x -h ldaps://tcdsfw -p 1636 -b o=acps "(objectClass=*)" 1.1
    does return all objects.
    But a query like
    ldapsearch -v -LLL -x -h ldaps://tcdsfw -p 636 -b dc=acps,dc=int "(objectClass=*)" 1.1
fails. (It also fails against the existing dsfw server. Should this query work?)
So TID 7007030 tells how to do ldapsearches on the dsfw server. So let's try that:
    Code:
    tcdsfw:~ # export LDAPCONF=/etc/opt/novell/xad/openldap/ldap.conf
    tcdsfw:~ # which ldapsearch
    /usr/bin/ldapsearch
    tcdsfw:~ # ldapsearch -Y EXTERNAL -LLL -Q -b "" -s sub objectClass=DomainDNS dn distinguishedName
    No such object (32)
Additional information: NDS error: no such entry (-601)
    tcdsfw:~ # cat /etc/opt/novell/xad/openldap/ldap.conf
    # LDAP Defaults
    # See ldap.conf(5) for details
    # This file should be world readable but not world writable.
    BASE DC=acps,DC=int
    URI ldapi://%2fvar%2fopt%2fnovell%2fxad%2frun%2fldapi
    #SIZELIMIT 12
    #TIMELIMIT 15
    #DEREF never
    TLS_REQCERT allow
    SASL_MECH GSS-SPNEGO
The same ldap search as above process successfully when run on the first dsfw server.
In any case ,unable to proceed with implementation of this second dsfw server (or the third) . My google-foo has failed me, so any suggestions wlll be welcomed...

    Hi,
The OESSystemObjects container under the mapped partition (in your case o=acps) should not be in a separate partition as per the default (recommended) settings. Is there a specific reason why the OESSystemObjects container is placed in a separate partition ?
Adding the r/w replica of the OESSystemObjects partition does help get out of the issues described above, but again this is not a expected (supported) configuration.

  • ZCM 11.2 Second Primary - SSL Configuration

    Primary Server 11.2.4MU1 on OES 11SP2 - Running ZCM11.2.4MU1 / DSFW / DNS
I am attempting to bring up a Second Primary Server. Maybe I am miss reading the documentation, however Each time I attempt the setup and bring the second primary into the "Existing" zone I give it the DNS / IP of the server, the correct Port - 444 In this case, and user / password. It authenticates fine, asks me to import the CA / MGMT Zone Cert. I click yes. Then I am taken to the SSL Configuration page.
From my reading I believe I should not be taken to this page.... I believe this should only be done if its a new server as the secondary should import and use the primary?
Currently my Plan was to bring up a secondary Primary and look at doing a DB / Content Migration, as I can not upgrade the current 11.2.4MU1 to 11.3 as install on OES is not supported (any longer).
I could be a bit discombobulated....
    Thanks
    Patrick

Never mind.....I forgot about the CSR / Cert generation part of the Zenworks setup...

  • Issue with installing second Service Manager server

We decided to install a second SM server to use as a test following the KB from MS below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn520899.aspx
We later found out that this install process had some issues and we needed a hotfix from MS to resolve it. The hotfix is basically a whole new installer MSI. MS had me uninstall SM and then reinstall using the MSI they gave me.
I am not getting the following error trying to do the install
    Install Services
An error occurred while executing a custom action:_CreateMOMRegKey.
The upgrade attempt has failed before permanent modifications were made.
Upgrade has successfully rolled back to the original state of the syste. Once
the corrections are made, you can retry upgrade for this role.
The install rolls back and thats it. MS has been somewhat helpful but we still haven't gotten it resolved. Anyone else try installing this hotfix version of SM and run into the same issue?
The KB that refers to the replacement MSI is
    KB2862620.

among other things, _CreateMOMRegKey creates registry keys related to ops manager and service manager. This is a common error with a management server reinstall, since these keys are not removed by an uninstall, and the creation method apparently does
not handle the case where they already exists. Consider
    this thread.
The long and short of it is that you will probably need to remove the registry keys [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager] and [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\System Center] as well as restore your management server's encryption key from the backup
you made after installing the first time.

  • Second Task Server not appearing in the Manager

I have set up a second Collection and Task Server (W2003 SP2) on a VM. The Collection Server is running fine.
The Task Server does not appear in the Manager displayer, after refreshes (F5) and rebooting both the Manager and the new Collection/Task Server.
Following some of the suggestions on this forum, he is my troubleshooting:

I entered a ticket with Novell Support $, and the issue revolved around installing the Collection Server, then installing the Task Server later on. I guess the "Component Install" isn't entirely true!
Here is the scenario for anyone else with this problem:
    1. Second Collection Server installs and it grabs new DLLs for the Primary
    2. Task Server installs but can't start because of DLL conflict
    3. Reinstalling the Task Server does not overwrite the DLL, so the same problem
The fix is stupid and simple:
Install the Task Server to a new folder. Then it can install all of the DLLs including the shared programs
I hope this helps someone else avoid misery!

  • ZCM 11.2 new primary server - How do I

    Hi,
We currently have a ZCM 11.2 install sitting on a Windows Server 2003 32bit. I have a new server running Windows 2008 64bit which I want to move the ZCM install to. I have looked at the various disaster recover scenarios as provided by novells documentation 11.2 disaster recovery reference but dont see in "replacing the primary server with a secondary server" a supported option of going from Windows server 2003 32bit to Windows server 2008 64bit.
I see this is supported in the replacing primary with a new server (eg same IP etc) but this is not the scenario I wish to follow.
Is my direction to simply install another copy of 11.2 as a secondary primary? on my 2008 64bit, go into existing management zone, follow the directions in the above reference doc in section 2.1.
I am wondering though with the secondary primary (2008 64bit) how do I go about moving the internal sybase from the old primary across to the new secondary. It has a reference to how to move the internal to and external sybase but I want the secondary primary (which will be the new primary) to have an internal sybase database like the old primary.
    Any help appreciated.

Yes, that would Be ideal as it was / is my primary DSFW onsite & DNS. So the new ZCM Box would have a different name & IP.
My thought was bring up a Second Primary in the exiting ZONE. Get it functioning / updated. (That's been an issue as well, but that will be another thread). Look at doing a DB /Content migration to the new server and shutting down the ZCM services on the old...I am sure I am missing some stuff....
What other options do we have? I am all ears....I am assuming you / we can not do the "Import/Upgrade" routine to the OVA.

  • Migrate 2012 SP1 CU3 Primary Server to a new machine?

Because of some issues I am having with my current primary site server, I would like to bring up a new server and decommission the old.
The old server is running on 2008 R2 and the new server will run on 2012 R2.
Right now, I have two servers running CM 2012 SP1 CU3.  I plan to upgrade the entire hierarchy to 2012 R2 before I decommission the old server.
Primary Site Server Site System Roles – Distribution Point, Endpoint Protection Point, Management Point, Reporting Services Point, Site Server, Site System
Second Server Roles – Application Catalog, Distribution Point, Fallback Status Point, Management Point, Site System, Software Update Point, State Migration Point
Can someone please help me understand the process that I should follow to make this successful?
1 - Bring up the new server
2 - Configure all settings on the new server
3 – Install Site System Roles on the new server
4 – Add SMS Provider to the new server
5 – Uninstall Site Server Roles from old server
What am I not thinking about?
Is there a better way to do this?
    Thanks for any help

    Hi,
For the Second Server with roles that could be an option to install a new server, and move the roles to that server.
For the Primary Site server there is no possibiltity to setup a new Primary Site server and transfer the role to that server as you can with the other roles. The way to do that would be to do a backup of Configuration Manager on the Server running 2008
r2 and restore it on the server running Server 2012 r2 as an inplace OS upgrade is not supported on a primary site server either.
You haven't mentioned where you SQL server is located either if it is local or remote.
If you have issued you could also install a new Primary Site and Migrate the objects from the old Primary Site and then reassign the clients to the new site.

It is shown on this page:

Is it possible to do this with SBS2008 ?
If "YES", are there any published information about the procedure ?

Yes, it is. Thank you very much.
But there is something that confuses me - I want to migrate from Win2003Std to SBS2008. And also, I want to keep the existing Win2003Std as a second DC for a long time.
But it is written in the shown article:
... After the migration is finished, you must remove the Source Server from the network within 21 days. ...
Is this rule mandatory for the scenarios where the Source Server is Std, not SBS ? As I know, I can have more than one DC(Win2003Std/Win2008Std) together with SBS2003. But what about SBS2008 ?

    Good Afternoon,
I recently upgraded our primary server from ZENworks 11.2-11.3a.
The upgrade procedure completed with no errors. However, the server will not refresh it's status in the ZENworks Control Center. Control Center continues to report the server as 11.2.0.0. The UI of the Control Center is upgraded. The agent continues to push back the next contact with server time without updating the last contact with server time
    Things I have tried:

    Hi,
You need two cables, one is a sata cable:
    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/30305659/706331346/StarTech-com-6in-SATA-to-Right-Angle-SATA-Serial-AT...
This cable is only for data and connects the hdd to the SATA connector on the motherboard.
The other cable is for power:
    http://www.itpartsdirect.com/startech-15-24cm-4-pin-molex-to-sata-power-cable-adaptor.html
This connects the hdd to the PSU.
You can also buy a combo cable like this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00064GBT4/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9550951989&ref=asc_df_B00064GBT4
All you have to do now is to connect the hdd and that's it. Make sure that the primary drive with the operating system is connected to the primary SATA connector (I think there are numbers 1, 2, 3..)

    Currently on Debian Wheeze

  • SCUP2011 Installation & Configuration in a hierarchy having 1 CAS+4 Primary Server

    Hi,
We have a SCCM Environment having 1 CAS server with 4 Primary Server. For third party update management, we have to install SCUP 2011. Now my question is what will be the best practice for installation of SCUP2011 in this environment.
    Thanks
    Pallavi

Basically it does not matter where SCUP is installed. Just make sure that it connects to the topmost SUP (which should be already installed on the CAS).
