Install usb3 hub driver before first login

Hello,
I captured the image of W7 with all drivers in place (device manager absolutely clean).
After deployment from MDT2012 I have Root Hub USB3 with yellow triangle. So USB devices not running. No mouse and keyboard. To resolve the issue I have to run Driver package from within the Windows.
I found the exact discussion and possible solution here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/387263f3-6128-4ac5-89c3-bde165b9e1fe/driver-installation-problem-usb-30-root-hub?forum=configmgrosd
People talking about deployment from SCCM. Not very clear for me...
Could somebody clearly explain the steps that may help to deploy the appropriate driver.
Can I add it to out of the box or to do something from the TS for this particular model.
I have SP from HP that can extract and point to driver installation. Basically it could be at post installation because first login is Autologin. I have windows update from WSUS enabled pre application. So here I can run this driver installation. May be
to add it as application and check it in Lite touch ?
What will be the best way?
Thanks.

Yes, when the SkipFinalWarnig=YES statement is NOT implemented, an automated reboot would be suppressed if an error occured during deployment.
For your other problem, there is a simple solution:
Edit you TaskSequence
Add a Restart Computer entry, using Add > General > Restart Computer
Make sure it's the last statement
With this Restart computer statement selected, go to the Options tab
Use Add > Query WMI
Use this as the WQL query:
SELECT * FROM Win32_ComputerSystem WHERE Model LIKE "%model%"
Note that you need to replace MODEL with a unique sting that is in the model-string of that specific model, for inctance, on a
HP Probook 6570b, you would state: "%6570b%".
You can find the model string using PowerShell:
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_ComputerSystem
After saving the changes, the reboot should only take place on models matching the WMI query.
That said however, it's a good idea (in fact good practice) to always reboot after deployment; this resolves a lot of issues you might have in several situations...

Martin

  • How do i install the newest driver for audigy 2 z

i downloaded the newest driver and tryed to install it. it says "setup did not detect the set of required compents you have. setup wil now exit" what do i need to install the latest and greatest dri've other than the card itself?

I had the exact same problem updating the drivers for my Audigy 2 Platinum EX, but I think I managed to solve the problem. This was quite awhile ago, but I think I remember how I got it to work.
First of all, which update did you download? The "Digital Rights Management" driver update was the one giving me that problem, and this was after installing the main drivers and programs from my Audigy 2 CD. But, I think the reason why it gives this message is because you need to install one of the other driver updates first, then install this DRM update. Look under the driver details and it says the following:
    "<EM>Requirements</EM>:
Microsoft? Windows? XP Service Pack 2 or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 </LI>
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 or Audigy 2 ZS series internal audio device </LI>
<EM>EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Driver Patch Update for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS (released on 29 March, 2004) installed, or Sound Blaster Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 ZS Driver Update (released on 29 July, 2004) installed</EM>."</LI>
Strangely enough, it appears this update requires you install an older driver update first (EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2__84_50.exe) then afterwards try running the Digital Rights Management update.
I think this is right, but I'm not 00% sure.

  • I'm about to install snow leopard on my 2006 macbook, OSX 10.4.11. I read that I'm supposed to copy my old OS to an external drive before hand. Why is this? What does it accomplish? If I upgrade to 10.6.3, why do I need a copy of my old 10.4.11?

I'm about to install snow leopard onto my 2006 macbook with OSX 10.4.11. I read that I should copy my old OSX to an external drive before I start. Why? What is the purpose of this? Once I have snow leopard, why do I want a copy of 10.4.11? Won't I be able to import what I need while installing?   Also, what is the point of partitioning my disk?  I don't understand what that's for if I'm only going to run one OS on there. Any experience or advice is greatly appreciated.

It is always wise to have a copy of your latest working system ... preferably on an external drive.   As Neil says, you may run into trouble and if you do you can always return to the original situation and start again.
Once you have installed Snow Leopard (an excellent system if I might say so) then you probably won't need 10.4.11 though you can never have enough back ups in my opinion.   It's amazing how often a need arises.
Having a backup on an external drive allays the need to partion your hard iMac drive for the same purpose..

I have seen so much response about the Mountain Lion update slowing down computers.  I am updating from Mac OS x 10.6.8.  What can I do to ensure the upgrade will go fine?  Do I unplug my external hard drive before installing, or keep it plugged in?
Also, I have the 08 version of iWork. Will this cause problems for the update?  Can I update this AFTER I update the processor?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There's no reason to think that Mountain Lion will slow down your Mac. Just make a backup of your data before upgrading with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
Also, check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Upgrade them to a compatible version or delete them before upgrading.
The external drive won't make the OS X Mountain Lion installer fail, but it's better to unplug it during the upgrade.
iWork '08 is compatible with Mountain Lion. iWork '09 includes OS X Mountain Lion features and can be purchased at the Mac App Store.
To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend at least 4 GB of RAM. You can check how much memory you have in Apple menu > About this Mac

hard drive on my mac died, installed new hard drive.  When I try to sync my phone for the first time, will the computer wipe all the songs, photos, ibooks from my phone?

Yes because that information is not located on the hard-drive of your new mac! If it is purchased content from the store, than this issue isn't as bad as it looks!
Here is a link explaining how to get your previously purchased content back:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
You also want to authorize your Apple ID account on the computer by following these instructions as well:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1730
Basically this link explains to go to the top left corner of your screen where you will see file, edit, view etc! Click on Store in that section and click on authorize this computer, also you want to make sure that the computer will not automatically sync by going to iTunes in the top left corner, just to the right of the apple symbol if iTunes is selected, and go to prefrences, and here you will see back up! Right under the back-ups has an option explaining to prevent devices from automatically syncing which is good cause you may be able to transfer your purchases from there which will put your content into the computer, and if that happens than we don't lose anything
Hopefully I was of some help:)

  • Do I need to do anything after installing new drive before I can use it?

I just got two 750GB WD Caviars and have installed them on my MP. One of them I'm going to use as a backup and remove when not using. My point for posting though is that I got some sort of error message once I powered the computer back up after installation. Do I need to format these drives or something like that? On my stock HDD on my Mac Pro, in disk utilities the 'partition scheme' says "GUID Partition Table" and for the two new drives they say "Unformatted". Also there was a fairly loud pulsating buzz after installing the new drives. It lasted most of the day and then suddenly stopped. Could the strange buzzing have something to do with the formatting issue?

Also, you can simply open Disk Utility - select the drive you want to format from the list of drives (icons with names) on the left. Click on the "erase" button at the top of the Disk Utility window and that will take you to the "dialogue" for erasing the selected drive - erasing is equivalent of formatting for purposes of this discussion.
Once erased (formatted) the drive (whether external or internal) should appear as a volume on your desktop and should be "useable" as any drive would be. Next step - _if you desire_ - is to get into partitioning drives, making bootable backup drives and RAID configurations.
Re the noise (buzzing): seems to me it wasn't the drives themselves that were causing the earlier reports. I think it was something to do with air flow over drive bay #4. Installing a drive in that bay "caused" the noise to begin. Like I said - you should do a search for this using applicable key words.

  • Satellite P750: Unable to install Bluetooth Stack driver on Windows 7 (x64)

    Hello.
    I own a *Satellite P750-02T* (Part no. *PSAY3A-02T001*).
In the order what I did:
    1) I formatted its HDD and reinstalled OS to *Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1*.
Then I downloaded *ONLY BIOS and the drivers* from [its Downloads page|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/p750/psay3a-02t001/download?os=25] :
    2) I updated its BIOS to *v1.90* (the laptop came with v1.80)
    3) I installed all the drivers:
    - both LAN and WiFi
    - Intel Chipset (latest available)
    - all video drivers (Intel HD Graphics, NVIDIA Graphics, and Intel HDMI)
    - Card Reader
    - Realtek HD Audio (latest)
    - Synaptics Touchpad
    - USB3.0
    - IR
    - TV-Tuner
However, I'm *unable to install the Bluetooth driver (v8.00.06(T)* )...
When I run setup from the [above-mentioned page|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/p750/psay3a-02t001/download?os=25] it partially detects *'Bluetooth USB Controller-10 from TOSHIBA'* (USB\VID_0930&PID_0215&REV_001)
and then installation simply freezes displaying +'Installing the Bluetooth Driver. Please wait+.' and stays like that forever...
I also tried downloading a driver from [another location|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/index.php?page=download-toshiba] for TOSHIBA notebooks - v8.00.02(T):
and followed installation instructions displayed under 'Details'
but there was the same outcome - the setup simply freezes...
Installing Hotfix (*KB978258*) recommended there didn't work either - the message '+The update is not applicable to your computer+' pops up.
And I understand why - this Hotfix is [already included|http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/B/A/EBA55FE2-373A-4351-9346-6D762B79AA69/Updates%20in%20Win7%20and%20WS08R2%20SP1.xls] into Service Pack 1 for MS Windows 7.
I spent hours searching on the Internet for a solution. Although there were some similar cases none of the recommendations actually worked. I tried installing:
    - WiFi driver before installing Bluetooth (someone suggested that those two are the parts of the same card);
    - resuming installation in Safe Mode;
    - *Toshiba Value Added Package* hoping those tools somehow will kick in.
    Nothing worked...
It's interesting that when for the sake of experiment I tried to run installation for my generic Bluetooth adapter (using the driver [for non-TOSHIBA notebooks|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/index.php?page=download]) then everything run smoothly!
*Using Bluetooth connection on this laptop is very crucial for me.*
I hope I shall not have to return this wonderful notebook as I know TOSHIBA is one of the best manufactures and am sure there is a solution to this problem.
    Thank you very much.
    Evgeny.

For FN functionality you must install Toshba Value added package. Toshiba flash cards utility is part of this package.

  • I am getting error message "Disk Not Ejected Properly Eject "FreeAgent GoFlex Drive" before disconnecting or turning it-" randomly.

I'm getting a "Disk Not Ejected Properly  Eject “FreeAgent GoFlex Drive” before disconnecting or turning it…" message at random times.  I have seen other comments about this happening after the iMac wakes from sleep.  However, this is happening to me throughout the day even when I am working on the iMac.
The iMac is up to date with OS X Version 10.9.  I had recently switched from a 500GB to a 3TB Drive, both are Seagate.  I have never had this issue prior to the switch.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I verified/repaired in the Utility Disk and a message popped up indicating the GoFlex looks "OK".

No, I am not on the USB3 interface.  I contacted Seagate and they indicated that there is no known issue with OS X 10.9.  In my case, they are willing to send me a new Drive, since I just received the GoFlex on 12/06. Will post an update when I install the new one.  Hopefully this will solve my issue.
I suggest you contact Seagate, if you haven't already, directly.  The representatives are very helpful.  Good luck.

  • Installing New Hard Drive for New OS

I have a MBP (late 2008), and have loved it since I first acquired it.  I am currently running OSX Lion 10.7.4, and I plan on upgrade to Mountain Lion when it is released.
My MBP came with a 250-gig HD in it.  I am wanting to swap it out for a 500 Seagate Hybrid drive before I install Mountain Lion.  My current hard drive is backed up on a 1-T external drive using the Time Machine app.
My question is this...I have never restarted a Mac from scratch. Prior to my current MBP, I used PC.  (Praise the Lord for discovering Mac!)  As a PC user, it took the largest part of a day to backup, reformat, and reinstall programs and drivers.  Are there any tips that you may offer on making the installation of a new drive a simpler task.
    Questions:
    1.  Will it be better to install Lion and then upgrade to Mountain Lion, or should I just install the new version straight?
    2.  Will Time Machine be able to reinstall everything on my drive as it was, or do I have to reinstall each app?
    3.  If I have to reinstall apps, what is the best way to handling the licensing registrations for various apps like Adobe CS5.5, iWork, Office 2011, etc.
Thank you for any advice for making the transition to a new drive an easier project.

Well, he's taking the easy way out - I know from my various cloning tests and from talking to others is that at first (after Lion was introduced), neither SuperDuper nor CCC could clone a recovery partition - the reasons: the recovery partition is a separate partition and only one partition can be cloned at a time and second, this partition is hidden and as such can't be cloned. Since then, CCC has added the capability of restoring/adding it.
SuperDuper can't do it, so they want you to waste several hours and bandwidth downloading and installing the entire OS again. You can download it without having the recovery partition (since you can download it as often as you want), but it's not quite the same process. Yes, it will restore the recovery partition, but, if you won't use it because you don't want to spend hours downloading it, then you don't really need it except for repair purposes or in an emergency.
I've tried different ways of restoring and backing up and personally, I don't like to have to download/install it again (although I've done it). I prefer being able to rely on my clone - no internet connection needed. But, since the recovery partition also includes the old Disk Utility capabilities of repairing your hard drive (without having to boot off another drive), I do want that as well. So, for now, it is CCC for me including creating a recovery partition.
I think I'm the last person on the planet who has never used the Apple App Store.
Aside from downloading OS/Lion/updates, I have never used it, so you're in line right with me.
And, I've never done a block level clone because your destination drive needs to be the same size as your source which, in my case, is ridiculous: my internal is 1 TB but I'm only using 100 GB of that right now. So I'm supposed to "waste" 800 - 900 GB empty space of an external drive to get a block level - I decided a regular clone is fine and I have my externals split into 5 - 6 partitions each containing 2 clones of each OS and machine I have.

I assumed this would help my problem with not being able to open apps like Preview or TextEdit since I installed Mountain Lion. Instead, first I'm prompted to enter a password, then once I do that, I get an error box telling me the Library needs repairing. Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • I need to install a keyboard driver without a keyboard

I need to install a USB keyboard driver on my Mac Mini without a keyboard (my USB mouse works fine, and my original keyboard is 1000 miles away). I have only one USB keyboard in this house but the driver to make it work with OS X is on the Logitech website, which I have downloaded onto a CD. I can run the driver installation program by using the mouse, but OS X demands that I provide the system password with the keyboard in order to install the keyboard driver. That's a catch-22. MY QUESTION: is there a program that I can download for Mac OS X that will let me enter keystrokes using the mouse?

MY QUESTION: is there a program that I can download for
Mac OS X that will let me enter keystrokes using the mouse?
No download needed, but this is going to be painful. FontBook will do what you want.
Fire up FontBook by browsing using the mouse to the Applications folder.
Under the Edit menu, choose "Special Characters". A Character Palette will appear. View Code Tables so that you get the full set of fonts. Basic Latin (the first set) would be best so that you don't get into unicode issues. At this point you've got two choices:
    (1) it appears that the character palette works on whatever program is in the foreground. So you could click on whatever program's window you want to type keys into, double click on the appropriate character in the character palatte and it will insert (or select the character, click the Insert button).
    (2) if you aren't a perfect "typist" (clicker), you might want to insert whatever characters you want to type into a TextEdit document, copy (drag select, choose copy from the Edit menu), change to whatever program you want to provide keys for, paste. But certain programs (login windows, etc.) may not let you use a menu choice for paste.
Painful, but it can be done.
