Install won't detect USB or wireless!

I purchased a C4580 All-in-One several years ago but never installed it.  I have now spent 2 hours attempting to do so on two different Macbooks, both running OS 10.6, having downloaded the "newest" install software (from 2009) from the HP site.  On both machines, Airport is connected to my wireless network with 5 bars, and the printer is connected to the laptop via USB (confirmed early in the install process by it retrieving printer configuration and serial number automatically).  But when I attempt to set up the wireless function, the Install tells me to connect the printer via a USB cable (it already is, but I remove it entirely, replace it, and restart the printer just to make sure it is detected -- not) and indicates it cannot detect my wireless network (Yes, the litttle blue wireless light is illuminated on the prinnter).
So, which is defective: the siftware or the printer?  And what is the solution?

Start from scratch.  Remove all software and drivers from your computer.  Make sure the printer does not show up under printers, if so, delete them.
Now download and install the full featured software and drivers from the HP web site here.  Now try.

  • Powerbook G4 won't detect USB 2.0 external hard drive

I recently purchased a Toshiba USB 2.0 portable external hard drive. I have both 15' and a 17' Powerbook G4s that are running on OS X 10.4.11. When I attempted to connect the new hardware to each of the computers neither recognizes that anything has been connected. The external drive does not appear on the desktop, in disk utilities, or TechTool. Both computers have 2.0 USB ports and the external hard drive is compatible to a Mac, but I cannot figure out why it will not show up. I have tried all of the suggestions I could find in forums discussing similar problems such as trying to repair the permissions with the Disk Utility First Aid feature, resetting the PRAM, as well as resetting the PMU, but to no avail. When I connect the device to a Windows based PC it shows up immediately; however, when I try to see it using the Virtual PC side of my Mac I am still unable to visualize the drive. This problem is only occurring with external hard drives and not particularly just this brand--I have tried others and had the same problem. All of my other USB devices that I connect to these computers work fine. Can someone please help and tell me why my Powerbooks will not detect USB external hard drives. Thanks!

External hard drive enclosures can be connected to computers in any of several ways. USB is one; FireWire is another. Some enclosures offer several different connection options: they may have any combination of USB2, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and eSATA ports. All G4 And G5 Macs have FireWire 400 ports, and can start up from an external hard drive that is connected to one of those ports. No G$ or G% Mac can be depended upon to start up from any external drive that is connected to a USB port, though it may happen in a few cases. Because a FireWire-capable drive is bootable, it's much more useful than a USB-only drive in any situation where a primary hard drive has failed or has become temporarily unbootable because of file or directory corruption.
Bare hard drives nowadays come in two platter sizes: 2.5" for notebook computers and 3.5" for desktop computers. The sizes and shapes of their outside casings are tightly standardized to make them highly interchangeable. They also come in two types: Parallel ATA, also called IDE, PATA, or ATA-5, ATA-6 or ATA-7; and the newer Serial ATA, or SATA drives.
External enclosures are made to accept either PATA or SATA drives — rarely both types. If you have an external drive with only a USB2 port, and you can see how to open the drive enclosure to reveal the bare drive inside, it may be to your advantage to order an empty FireWire enclosure and "transplant" your bare hard drive into it to get the benefits of higher speed, bootability, and adequate power that come with FireWire.
External hard drive enclosures are designed to hold standard-sized bare hard drive units — the same units that can be mounted inside a desktop or notebook computer. An enclosure contains a place to mount the drive, a circuit board or two that mediates between the drive and the port to which you'll connect a USB or FireWire cable, and in the case of a 3.5" drive, sometimes a fan for cooling.
Portable FireWire-connectable external hard drives seldom or never have the problem of insufficient power that plagues so many portable USB hard drives when they're used with Powerbooks. For whatever reason, Powerbooks' USB ports just can't put out enough juice to run most portable USB drives, while their FireWire ports are able to do so comfortably.

  • Windows 7 Clean Install won't detect SATA Drive

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my desktop that is currently running Vista and XP on a dual boot. I want to eliminate the dual boot and do a clean install with Windows 7. I have a Western Digital SATA drive WD2500KS. If I try to install "custom" it will not detect the drive and wants to load drivers. If I try to upgrade it shows the drive and both partitions and want's to know which partition. I ran the Windows 7 compatibility program and it shows the drive and no issues pertaining to installation. How do I get a clean install to recognize the hard drive? Processor is Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4 Ghz.

What machine is this? homebuilt or OEM?
Do you have a Dell computer? It appears that the built-in Dell SATA drivers aren't recognized during the Windows 7 extraction portion of setup (when your BIOS is set with RAID Autodetect / AHCI).  Might also work for a non-Dell PC:
note: you should install the latest BIOS update from Dell's support.dell.com website first, or your manufacturers website for a non-Dell computer.
    1. Boot into the BIOS (press F2 while the Dell splash screen is showing, will be different for a non-Dell).
    2. Go to Drives > SATA Operation. (will be different for a non-Dell)
    3. Change from "RAID Autodetect / AHCI" to "RAID Autodetect / ATA".
    4. Press escape, choose Save / Exit.
Also, play it safe, shut down your PC and disconnect all USB devices (except the keyboard / mouse, they do not need to be disconnected) before trying to reinstall.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A909G Can't Scan to Network Folder - Install won't detect Printer

I have installed an 8500 on a wireless network.  There are 2 PC's;  1 is XP Home, the other is XP Pro, both are Service Pack 3.  The Router is a Linksys WRT54G2, Wireless adapters in both PC's are Linksys Wireless G - PCI cards.  Both PC's are running McAfee Total Protection software and they are up to date.  Windows Firewall is off.  I'm using a 9 char SSID (all alpha), it isn't hidden and I'm not using MAC filtering.  Security is WPA2 using a pass-phrase.  I have added SLP service on Port 427 in McAfee on both PC's for UDP and TCP.  (I've also opened up 135-139 and 445 for File sharing.)  All devices configure using DHCP.  The printer was turned on first and gets 192.168.1.100, XP Home gets ...101 and XP Pro gets ...102.  Signal strength for both PC's is Excellent and the LAN runs at 54.0 mps.  (I can't think of anything more to describe how everything is setup.  If anyone needs something else, just ask for specifics.)  Now the PROBLEM:
During installation: 1) XP Home discovers the printer just fine, all is happy and all works as advertised. 2) XP Pro doesn't see the printer when searching for printer (not recieving SLP Packets?), I have to go to advanced and search by IP Address.  There is some point after this that I receive an error saying I need to check port 427 etc.  I check continue installing wireless and ignore errors.  When install is done XP Pro CAN print.  I CAN run HP Solutions Center and scan.  I CAN'T go to the printer and press the scan button and "Scan to a Network Folder", I CAN'T setup this function for the XP Pro machine using ESS.  I CAN access EWS from either PC (that uses port 80).  I have tried turning off the McAfee firewall to no avail (of course McAfee doesn't exactly turn off completely - I have read in some other forums).  I'm not sure what to do next and I'm spending WAY too much time on this install (this is a customer of mine).  I was about to tell them I can't turn on this one option - then I tried to turn on file-sharing and found it doesn't work either!  I could point the finger at McAfee because it sounds like their kind of problem, however, both versions are identical, and both have been setup the same.  The only real difference is XP - Home vs Pro.  If anyopne has seen this kind of problem on an XP Pro box please let me know.  I'm now just scratching my head with no other options.

I have a customer with the EXACT same problem.  I HONESTLY thing that HP has a driver/firmware problem here.
Three different computers, A desktop, a laptop and a Netbook (sounds like a joke...)  NONE will allow Scan to Print.  I have installed/uninstalled around 9 times now - HP sent the customer a NEW printer in December - still no workee.  Spent 5 hours on phone with tech support - NO WORKEEE...
Here is the maddening part - the SCAN TO E-MAIL works PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!   ALL other functions work Perfectly - but Scan to File just fails stating that it can't find the computer.
I can ping the Printer, I have disabled ALL anti-virus, firewall software, scanned with Malwarebytes, TrendMicro Housecall, Eset NOD32, and Kapersky scanners with negative (good) results for bugs...
I'm just happy that SOMEONE else is having the problem... (so that I know that I'M not COMPLETELY crazy....)  (The scene in OFFICE SPACE keeps playing through my head, the one where they take the fax machine and play baseball with it...)
    Help!!!!

  • OS X Snow Leopard Install won't detect keyboard

I have done a complete wipe of hard disk & clean installed Snow Lepord & when I get to the second part of the setup, it asks for a password. I cannot enter it as my keyboard will not work with it.
I know the keyboard works, as I have tried it on my MacBook & it works fine. It is also a wired keyboard.
Is there anything I can try to get this resolve?

It's a good job I followed advice from internet on how to make an OS X Lion disc. I had made one of these already, but wasn't confident it would be a boot CD. Tried it anyway, after Snow Lepoard wouldn't detect my keyboard & after waiting for a reply on here. Unfortunately I never got a reply on this message board, so I went ahead & did it. It worked, so I have a working Mac again now.
If anyone else has this problem, at least now they know what to do.

  • Macbook won't detect USB input devices

    Hi everyone!
I'm desperately browsing the forum threads here for some help but after resetting everything resetable and after all recommended software updates, I still can't get my USB ports to recognize my external mouse/keyboard (Logitech S530 Desktop). Of course, I have also tried several other mice (also wired) but it didn't work either. Though, external HDs and IPod work fine. I quite doubt that it's a hardware problem because after formatting and reinstalling the OS, the ports were working again until I have carried out all the software updates (firmware and so on...). Could it be a driver conflict? Is there someone with the same problem?
    I'd really appreciate your help!!!
MacBook (Black)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I have had a problem that is a little similar. After leaving my computer on and not using it for a few hours I return to find my input devices (keyboard and mouse) not responding. the computer is still perfectly functional, but the USB devices do not work. I have to restart to get them to work again.
Any ideas? It's happened 3-4 times in the past few weeks since I got it. I thought it was just being iffy, but this is a little worrying.
    thanks!

  • I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop and and HP Win 7 laptop (my wifes) print to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I have the latest driver installed. No problem when I had a Canon...

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • HT3574 If i have AT&T as my services is it necessary to have iTunes installed on my pc and or laptop to tether with USB or wirelessly...??

BIf i have AT&T as my services is it necessary to have iTunes installed on my pc and or laptop to tether with USB or wirelessly...??

Well, in order to check, you'd need to tell us exactly what those plug ins are and/or provide a link to them. Most streaming or playing of the channels you mentioned do require "help" in the form of a plug in; some of those work great, others only haphazardly, and some not at all/may cause a problem.
FWIW, whatever site you visit online, knows exactly what equipment you are on simply because you went there. So, they should not be demanding/offering you a plug in that isn't meant for your platform (which, by the way, is not iOS, but Mac OS 10.9.5 - iOS is for iPads, iPhones, etc).

  • Desktop won't detect Turtle Beach USB Headset

It's been around 2-3 hours since I started, and all I have managed to do was make my driver unusable and sound to not work.
No idea why the USB won't detect, but it seems to be on the computer end and not the headset.

    could i get an answer?

    the devices is:

note that I use the latest driver provided by the web support device..
can anyone help to fix it?
thanks and sorry if my english not good :-P

What operating system are you running on your E330 and X230?
The answer may be found by figuring out why it works on the E330...
Have you tried to use any other devices in the USB ports besides those 2?
    And were the recognized?
Did these devices ever work with your X230?
You could try to roll back to a previous driver update and see if that helps?

  • ActiveSync won't detect my Treo 750

    Help!!
I started with Windows Mobile 5 before with Activesync 4.2 and it worked just fine.
a year ago, I updated my palm with WM 6 and Activesync 4.5 and it worked just fine.
Recently, I have got new laptop from my company and try to re-install activesync.
During the process, I accidentally deleted the connection in my palm and everything is gone!!!
I tried to install activesync 4.5 in my new laptop and try to connect them, however, activesync won't detect my device.  It did not even charge my mobile.
Curious enough, I tried to connect it with my other laptop at home (using Activesync 4.5) and it did not detect the device as well.  Running out of idea, I removed Activesync in my home laptop and install Activesync 4.2. Try to connect and it worked!!! However, an error message came out saying that I need to have ActiveSync 4.5 to synchronize with WM 6.
I uninstall the ActiveSync 4.2 and install 4.5 in the laptop and try to synchronize again.  But this time, same situation happens again where Activesync did not recognize my device!!!
What to do, I am running out of idea.  Help me please...

Post relates to: Treo 750 (AT&T)

I went through all the recommended steps I found online and spent 2 hours with palm support and 1 hour with Dell support and still was unable to connect my att palm treo 750 using activesync when I had successfully done so in the past.  I am using a treo 750 with winmobile 5 ver and activesync 4.2  connecting to win XP pro. I would see the phone in my device manager but it would not connect. This is what I discovered that fixed my problem and not just on my Dell computer but another computer I have as well. I would go into the phone to  Start/Settings/Connections Tab and found USB to PC and check the box to allow advanced connections. I would then remove the battery. unplug the USB cable and reinstall the battery. After phone boot up, plug usb in and attempt connection again and it would fail. Again open on the phone the  Start/Settings/Connections Tab and found USB to PC and uncheck the box to allow advanced connections. If connection fails (it probably will) pull battery from phone and unplug USB. reinstall battery to reboot phone then plug the USB cable back in. My device would again connect.. This needs to be done every once in a while because of the buggy phone and/or activesync software. I hope this helps anyone and prevents them from wasting as much time as I have on keeping an otherwise good phone in sync with an xp computer. Peace and long live a free internet and quality software....

  • Itunes won't detect ipod...

Hey all. I previously installed my ipod on my computer with all the software and it was working fine. It was working perfectly. I decided to return it to get a smaller version, but before I did that, I had to restore the factory settings. I later decided to keep the current ipod, but now itunes won't detect the ipod. I tried reinstalling the software numerous times and it didn't work. I also plugged it into a different usb port like the manual suggests but it still doesn't work. Can anyone please help? thanks.
