Installation of JSF

hi,
I am new for JSF interface. I have Sun Applcation Server PE 9.0, j2se5 and j2ee5 on my system. I want to make a program with JSF techonology.
How can i implement a JSF enabled Application on My Server.
I want to know that what type of setup required for it.

To get started building a JSF app for EE5, I'd recommend using NetBeans 5.5 beta for EE5 (although many other IDEs are perfectly adequate). Just do "New Project", make sure your app server is configured, select EE 5, check the JSF checkbox when it comes up, and you have a basic hello world like JSF skeleton to work from. It's not that hard.

  • Understanding Faces Servlet Mapping

    Hi guys, I would like understand how work the Faces Servlet mapping.
    In a web.xml file I put
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>javax.faces.context.webapps.FacesContext</servlet-class>
    <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern> /<my_app_context>/* </url-pattern>  <!-- Here is my curious... -->1) If I put "/my_context/*" everything below "my_cotnext" (include JSP) is throughout to faces servlet, isn't?!!? can I just acces "http://localhost/my_context/index.jsp?!??
    2) If i put "/faces/*" and use the URL "http://host/faces/my_context/index.jsp" I need to create a folder call faces inside "$CATALINA_HOME/webapp" ?!?!?
    If not, what occurs?!!??
    3) If i put "*.faces" can I save my jsp file with the extension jsp, for example index.jsp at context my_context, and before access by URL "http://localhost/my_context/index.faces"?!? If I can, how the tomcat find the index.jsp
    Well, if someone can exaplain this rules in Tomcat for me will be very great!!!!!
    Thanks all
    Giscard

    Hi Gisard,
    as far as I did understand the whole thing you have two possibilities
    1. Path Mapping
    2. Extension Mapping
    I'm using Path Mapping, so I have the following entry in my web.xml:
    <servlet>
            <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
            <load-on-startup> 1 </load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>*.jsf</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>That's quite easy to use, because in my navigation rules in the faces-config.xml I just use something like this:
    <navigation-rule>
        <navigation-case>
          <from-outcome>installation</from-outcome>
          <to-view-id>/pages/installation/inst_index.jsf</to-view-id>
        </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>And I have the page "inst_index.jsp" in my folder "web-app-context/pages/installation".
    I can access it with the URL:
    "http://localhost:8080/<web-app-context>/pages/installation/inst_index.jsf".
    If you want to use path mapping you should have the following entry in your web.xml:
    <servlet>
            <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
            <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
            <load-on-startup> 1 </load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
            <servlet-name>Faces Servlet</servlet-name>
            <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>So for example if you want to access the page "inst_index.jsp" in the folder "web-app-context/pages/installation" you have to use the URL:
    "http://localhost:8080/<web-app-context>/faces/pages/installation/inst_index.jsp".
    But you don't need a new folder "faces" within your web-app.
    I hope I could help you with that.

  • JSF and installation

    I am currently attempting to use ORACLE's IDE 10.1.2. This unfortunately does NOT
    tie in directly to JSF - in other words you have to manually link in to JSF.
    I therefore dowloaded 1.4 from ther Sun site and have installed it on my PC. However,
    I have noticed a number of things missing for JSF. These are as follows:
    commons-beans-utils.jar
    commons-collections.jar
    commons-digester.jar
    and the tld file jsf-core.tld
    Can anybody throw any light on this. Is theer something in addtion to SDK 1.4 that I need to download.
    Many Thanks

  • Not able to create a web project with jsf or jsp or struts or spring

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a dynamic web project with jsf or jstl or struts or spring or any of web options available for a web project, but I am not able to do it.
    When I choose any of these options, the wizard asks me to "select an existing jstl/jsf/Spring 2.0 library, or click Add to add a new library." and since it doesn't show any existing libraries there, I clicked on add new library. When I click add, it opens a new dialog box where it has two options :
    1. to use spring/jstl/jsf lib from bea web site - when I choose this option, it tries to connect to the bea web site and gives me error that "connect time out". I don't know why it is not able to connect to the internet. I am not able to see the help also. There it gives error "The requested URL could not be retrieved".
    2. to use libraries from an existing spring installation - I provide the path of a directory where spring lib are, but then it gives me error that this is not a valid installation.
    On another machine, I am able to see the help contents, but still not able to get these libraries from the bea site.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
    The issue you are facing has been addressed and will be part of the next release. For the current release, please follow the steps listed below.
    Send an email to [email protected] with details on specific facets you are trying to enable on your project.
    You will be provided with a url where you can download the required jars and details on how to manually add the jars to the workspace which will prevent the download on demand scenario.
    Cheers
    Raj

  • Error after installing the new JSF release

    I've got a problem to install the new JSF release. I downloaded the Web Services Developer Pack 1.3 from the homepage and installed it. Then, i downloaded the actual release of the JSF 1.0 as a zip file. I removed the existing jsf directory in the original WSDP and extracted the zip file into the home directory of the WSDP. Then I renamed the directory from jsf-1.0 to jsf and started the tomcat again.
    But then I get the following errors and tomcat isn't working at all:

    kind regards, Ingo

    Your server may be in an unstable state if you did not remove all of the old cached files.
    I recommend you clear out your <JWSDP_HOME>/work directory and remove all the <JWSDP_HOME>/conf/Catalina/localhost/jsf* files and restart your server.
    Thanks,

  • Problem identified jsf component and problem of checkboxs

    hello,
    i have 2 questions:
    - 1
    I have a js function that show/don't show a tab when we chose yes/no on a SelectOneRadio:
    function display(fieldRadio,tabtohide)
    div = document.getElementById(tabtohide);
    if(fieldradio.value=='false')
    div.className='hide';
    else div.className='';
    I call this function in the radio component, like this:
    onclick="display(this,'tabid');" and it works very well.
    The problem is that i would like to replace 'this' by the id of the component (to call this function at another place).
    I'v tried the document.getElementById(JsfTagId); but it doesn't work with jsf tag.
    - 2
    I use a selectmanycheckbox like this:
    <h:selectManyCheckbox value="#{BeanDemandeur.type}" required="false">
    <f:selectItem itemValue="Nouvelleinstallation" itemLabel="Nouvelle installation"/>
    <f:selectItem itemValue="Misejour" itemLabel="Mise  jour"/>
    <f:attribute name="fieldRef" value="Type de demande"/>
    </h:selectManyCheckbox>
    In the bean, i use the variable type like this:
    private String[] type = new String[2];
    public String[] getType(){return type;}
    public void setType(String[] rr){type[0]=rr[0];type[1]=rr[1];}
    And finally, in th faces-config.xml:
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>type</property-name>
    <property-class>java.lang.String[]</property-class>
    <value/>
    </managed-property>
    But an error occured: Can't set managed bean property:'type';
    thx u for your help

    r u getting any connversion error !
    what is the error ru getting when u run the code

  • JSF 2.0 tag library as distributed is incomplete?

    Hi all,
    I've spent a good chunk of 2 days at this and i'm pulling my hair out as i speak. I've installed mojarra 2.0.3 FCS in my Netbeans 6.7.1 installation. I now tried to use the <h:head> tag but for some reason, i keep getting a "org.xml.sax.SAXException: No tag "head" defined in tag library associated with uri "http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"" meaning the tag/tag handler does not exist in the package. I've downloaded every other build of mojarra on the site with the same results. my declaration goes :
    <jsp:root version="2.1" xmlns:x="http://www.w3c.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" xmlns:df="http://java.sun.com/jsf/dynamicfaces" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.prime.com.tr/ui" xmlns:webuijsf="http://www.sun.com/webui/webuijsf">
    i'm using dynamic faces, primefaces and woodstock in this project. the other html jsf tags are available except h:head which i need. what am i doing wrong? please help me out here. i 've exhausted my little mind @ this.

  • Intigrate JSF 2.0 into JDev 11.1.2.1 Application

    My WLS 10.3 administrator called with a request. He asked if I could ingetrate the JSF 2.0 library into my JDev 11.1.2.1 application so that he would not have to install JSF 2.0 on the WLS (a new WLS maching that he will soon be setting up). He said that WLS comes with JSF 1.2 and that he would need to install JSF 2.0 and that it is very painful.
    Can I integrate JSF 2.0 into my application and avoid having to install JSF 2.0 in the new WLS being set up?
    Would it make any since to do so?
    Why does WLS come with JSF 1.2 rather than JSF 2.0?
    Thank you, Steve

    JSF 2.0 is only one part of the adf framework. You need a lot more. All this is done when you (or your admin) installs the adf runtime needed for your version. Let me say it again:
    To run an ADF Application on a wls server without the adf runtime installed will not work!
    Putting all adf libs in the ear isn't a solution either! Ear would grow too big and you still have to to some wiring to make it work.
    Installing the adf runtime is done with an installer. How hard is it to execute an installer?
    In case of 11.1.2.1 your admin first needs to install the adf runtime 11.1.1.6, then you need two patches which you get via support, and install the patches.Installing all this should not take longer than a couple of hours for a simple WebLogic server. IF you are running a whole farm with many servers it takes longer.
    Again, if you want to run adf application on a wls you must install the adf runtime on the wls!
    Keep in mind that there is a strong relationship between wls version, jdev version and adf runtime version. They must match, otherwise you get errors at some point. For a list of these version refer to my blog http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/jdeveloper-versions-vs-weblogic-server-versions/

  • Jdeveloper JSF: works on integrated weblogic but not on remote weblogic

    I have a simple JSF application (just printing Hello World). When I deploy it through Jdeveloper to the integrated weblogic server it works fine. However, it fails to deploy to a remote standalone weblogic server it fails with this error in the logs
    +<Feb 9, 2012 11:01:55 AM EST> <Warning> <oracle.adf.share.config.ADFConfigFactory> <BEA-000000> <Resource META-INF/adf-config.xml not found on the classpath.>+

    Steps:
    1. I installed JDeveloper 11gR2 (11.1.2.1.0) studio.
    2. After installation, I configured a weblogic server domain by running MW_HOME/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/config.sh.
    I selected the following products to include in the domain - Oracle JRF WebServices Asynchronous services, Oracle JRF - 11.1.1.0, Weblogic Advanced Web Services JAX-RPC, and Weblogic advanced web services for JAX-WS.
    3. Create a JSF hello world app in jdeveloper and deploy to Integrated weblogic server. It works.
    4. Now deploy the same JSF hello world app from jDeveloper to a Remote/standalone weblogic server. It fails.
    It is the same application source code and also, the weblogic standalone domain was created from the same jDeveloper installation. I also verified that the deployed libs in the two weblogic servers are identical.
    Appreciate any help, inputs.
    Thanks.

    You are confusing me a bit. You want to ran an app on a stand alone WLS, but installed JDev11.1.2.1?
    Normally you install a WLS (10.3.5 in your case) and then need to install two patches (only available via support) to make the stand alone WLS compatible to 11.1.2.1.
    Here is a post which shows which wls corresponds to which jdev: http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/09/14/jdeveloper-versions-vs-weblogic-server-versions/
    Here is one on how to install the stand alone WLS and patch it to 11.1.2.1 level: http://tompeez.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/follow-up-upgrading-wls-10-3-5-with-adf-runtime-11-1-2-0-0-sherman-patch/

  • FileUpload component for jsf 1.1 RI

    I have a serious problem with finding working component for file upload
    i can't upgrade to jsf 1.2 i must use 1.1 RI
    I tired tomahawk comonent same as here: http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2005/07/13/jsfupload.html?page=last
    but i doesn't work because uploaded file is always null because of enctype="multipart/form-data" in form element, same problem as somebody in comments.
    Then I tried ADF faces such as here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/installation.html#Dependencies
    and here
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/devguide/fileUpload.html
    but i didn't managed to get throught configuration because i can't find adfshare.jar anywhere, it is not included in adf-faces-10_1_3_0_4.zip and I need oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter whitch is propably in the missing jar. This result as 404 error for all jsf pages :(
    Does anyone managed to get somehow working file upload component with netbeans 5.5, tomcat 5.5 jsf 1.1 RI.
    Pleas help.

    It might be bad form to push your own library, but. :P
    You might check out the RI Sandbox, which has a calendar component. It should work in 1.1, but, if it doesn't, let me know and I'll make sure it does. :)

    Everything else - e.g. the runtime stuff that the faces-config defines will be intact. and you'll have all the pages and navigation rules in the recreated diagram, but you'll probably want to tidy them up from the default layout
