Installation osx very slow on my core 2 duo 2 ghz and stops

Hi,
When I do a fresh install of OSX from the DVD, the installation process takes well over one hour.
The first step, checking the DVD also takes very, very long.
When I insert the second CD, the installation stops at the point of installing iDVD.
Does someone have a clue what is going on and what I should do about it?
Jochem

The first disk installed smoothly and in about the same time as it always does, in proportion to the speed of the box/DVD drive. The second disk starts off fine, then begins to show longer and longer "time remaining" — 14 minutes, 18 minutes, 24 minutes, 41 minutes, etc. before eventually failing.
The point of failure was inconsistent. Sometimes it would process for 10 minutes before spiraling; sometimes it would fail in less than five. There were no other unusual symptoms, such as a unusual HD or DVD drive noises.

  • The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up.

    Question
The first time I start Firefox it is very slow coming up but after it is up and I want another window it fast again. What do I need to do to clean out whatever is clogging it up. edit

    * The first time you start up any application after turning on your computer is called a cold start, which is why Firefox takes a while to load right away. (I've noticed that future versions of Firefox start up faster on a cold start then Firefox 5.0.1.) Also, a lower amount of RAM could be slowing its start-up down since Firefox is kind of memory hungry.
    * As for the second part of your question, press ctrl,Alt, and the delete keys on your keyboard. The Windows Task Manager should start. Go to the processes tab and look for 'firefox.exe'. Right click on the firefox.exe and click 'End Process'. Hit Yes and wait for a minute.
    * Then opening Firefox again.
    Hopefully this helped somewhat!

There's 8 different models of MacBooks that are 2.0Ghz. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • Thin Installer is very slow with SCCM Task Sequenz

    Hi all,
I configure the Driver Update with Thininstaller via SCCM Tasksequenz and it is working fine, but very very slow.
It is so slow because all Thininstaller log lines were pass throuh to the SMSTS.log. (Task Sequenz log file).
It means the SMSTS.log has the same content as the Thininstaller log. This makes the task very very slow. If I run the Thininstaller manually with the same command line (without TaskSequenz), it is fast as expected.
Any Idea how to disable the log pass through from Thininstaller?

The repository is a network share on a Windows 2008R2 server, connected through gigabit network. The server doesn't have basically any load. Mapping the network share either directly to the network share or as an SCCM package does not affect performance, it always takes around 45min.
In the repository there are around 200 packages (about 25 computer models). Thin Installer is run by using two SCCM packages. First of them contains the Thin Installer application files and a cmd file with only one line:
    xcopy "%~dp0*.*" C:\Windows\ThinInst /E /Z /Y /I
So, that copies Thin Installer files to local computer. Second package is the driver store, and it also includes a cmd file to run Thin Installer:
    %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CasPol.exe -pp off -m -ag 1.2 -url file://%~dp0* FullTrust
    C:\Windows\ThinInst\ThinInstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -noicon -includerebootpackages 1,3,4 -noreboot -repository %~dp0
I was now reading ThinInstaller log files, and it kinda looks like it just sits and waits for something for half an hour in the end..

  • Navigate away from site with flash under Firefox4 + OSX, very slow. Bug?

I have problem to navigate away from a page with flash under Firefox4 + OSX. Very slow (takes 30-60 seconds after clicking on a link). No problem in Win/Ubuntu with Firefox4. No problem with Firefox 3.6 or other browsers under Win/Ubuntu/OSX.

When you say you play it, in either Captivate or Flash, do
    you mean
locally or that you upload it somewhere and play it back
    through a web
    browser from that website location?
If the former, then I'm not sure. If the latter, sounds like
    the images
are Very Large and it's taking a while for them to download
    in order to
play...but once they're downloaded and 'cached', the file
    plays quickly.
How large are your published SWFs? What format are your
    images? What DPI?

  • Accessing menus is very slow unless I'm in safe mode. And I've tried everything I've found on the help pages.

If I go in using safe mode the menus work fine. If I don't the time it takes to get the sub-menu is several minutes. I've tried "disabling the add-ons" and "resetting the controls" but that doesn't affect it. It is still slow if I'm out of safe mode. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. And I've tried deleting the "Program Files" directory it occupies in-between uninstalls and installs, too. I've also tried getting rid of Firefox and the Mozilla Maintenance Service at the same time, too, just in case. Nothing works.
I get the following error if I look at "the console": mutating the [[Prototype]] of an object will cause your code to run very slowly; instead create the object with the correct initial [[Prototype]] value using Object.create

I had this problem for about a year or so. I can't remember how long I had it. I just began using safe mode all the time, so I could still use Thunderbird. I had already tried what Christ1 had recommended, too ("You can try to disable all extensions and then enable one at a time until Thunderbird starts getting slow again.").
Then one day fairly recently the problem just disappeared. I didn't do anything. I'd been upgrading Thunderbird regularly, all during the time I had the problem, too. And I'd already tried all the various solutions that had been offered on the web. It just magically disappeared one day. Oddly, I was kind of expecting that would happen. I'd just wanted it to work a lot sooner.

  • Multiple crashes fixed by turning off hardware and Flash acceleration; very slow now. Takes five seconds to exit and still listed as a running process

A workaround was suggested by a member of the community to turn off both hardware and Flash acceleration. It worked fine (no crashes since), but runs very slowly. In particular, takes five seconds to exit and is often still listed as a running process. Very slow in connecting to Web pages, and very slow loading them because of the graphics. Very slow in loading video. I expected slower responses, but this is REALLY slow. I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and an Nvidia GE Force 7800 graphics card with all the drivers updated and the plugins for Firefox mostly set on "ask to activate". Should I expect this much reduction in performance when the workaround I mentioned was put into place? If so, it's half a loaf at best. The only thing questionable is that I have two Youtube downloaders that I am trying, but I made the assumption that these were only applied when you downloaded something from Youtube.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes": do not clear the Cookies
If you clear cookies then Firefox will also try to remove cookies created by plugins and that requires to start plugin-container processes that can slow down closing Firefox.
Instead let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.

  • FireFox VERY slow with Norton Toolbar 4.6 on GMAIL and B of A, etc.

Using XP Pro SP3 and FireFox 3.6.7, but has been slow for a while now. If I disable Norton ToolBar 4.6 (from NIS 2010) it is OK but IE 8 is fine. What happens is that GMAIL logs in and just hangs for a while. Even B of A or the Norton site. Even my ISP's site is VERY slow. A lot of forums are slow as well. Seems like sites that need a log-in have this issue.
== URL of affected sites ==

I had done this and disabled ALL of the addons/plugins, and it was fine. As soon as I enabled the Norton toolbar, the problem was back. I then enabled everything except the Norton Toolbar and it was still good. I believe this is a Firefox issue as IE 8 works well with the Norton Toolbar enabled. I also see this when I go to my Netflix queue. Firefox is very slow while IE 8 shows the list quickly.

if that issue exist its random which info is correct, but usually one of it match... best to check on CPU IHS for OPN code. (for me is no guarantee too, cause have case with CPU which OPN code written on the IHS is different in real one, etc: ID by OPN code on IHS should be one type(core), but in reality its different core from expected by OPN, also internal OPN do not match with OPN code on IHS).
That sounds equally bad as well. It's really something obvious that resellers should report to Intel about these sort of issues. Layman users can be easily tricked in such cases as they usually do not know how to check out for stuffs specs.

I have that faint shadow bar as well 2 inches from the bottom. I cant figure out what causes it. It runs all across the whole thing.
