Installation problem of Oracle 9iAS rel2 on redhat advanced server 2.1

Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 9ias Rel2 on redhat advanced server 2.1
Following instructions i downloaded and installed the binutils patch binutils-2.11.90.0.8-13.i386.rpm
I have set ORACLE_HOME appropriately and created a new user oracle.
During installtion of 'J2EE and WebCache' , when it starts linking, the installer gives the following error
Error in invoking target ntcontab.o of makefile /home/oracle/Appserver/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk
Retry, Ignore,cancel...
If i press ignore, it gives series of such errors.
My ORACLE_HOME is /home/oracle/Appserver/
I am trying to set up the production environment.
Please help!!!
thanks
srinath

  • Installation problems with oracle 9iAS v1.0.2.2.2a

    Dear all, i had been having a problem to install oracle 9iAS v1.0.2.2.2a on Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 edition for the past 5 days.
    I had read through the installation guide and follow steps by steps instructions. but the installer would just stop at 100% "Copying welcome.html or Copying demo.gif". It only leave with a step that it would reach the configuration setup. I am wondering anyone encounter this problem.
    I had tried to install on notebook and desktop with the same platform. On the notebook, i have oracle 9i database release 2 installed on it. Thinking it might be a compatibility problem, i tried installing oracle 9iAS on a desktop with a oracle 9i database client. But i would want the application server and database to run on the same machine. Should I wait for the oracle 9iAS release 2 for NT or anyone have any advise on my problem.
    i would appreicate if anyone can help. thank you.

    Maybe this is a bit of a simple question. But, do you remember how long you waited, when the progress bar indicated 100%? The installation progress status does indicate "100%" for a while, doing some "last minute" stuff, before moving on to the "Configuration Tools" phase.
    Yes, as Ashesh stated, Oracle9iAS 10222a and Oracle9i Database can co-exist on the same machine, as long as they are in separate ORACLE_HOMEs. And, yes, the structure you described (\oracle\database and \oracle\iASHome) does qualify as "separate ORACLE_HOMEs".
    Cheers!

  • Problem installing Oracle 9iAS on Win2000

    Hi everybody,
    I have problem installing Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2.a on Win2000.
    The process instalation stops when the instalation bar shows 100% complete and copying welcome.html . After that, other processes should start, but it does not happen.
    I have installed in an other machine an Oracle 8.1.7 release 3 and I set up parameters as described into documentation. I didn4t applied any patch because I was using release 3 already.
    I have 1GB RAM , 1.5 Gb of virtual memory , 2 processors 1,3 Ghz,
    and 10 Gb on HD target on both servers(Database and Application Server).
    Does anybody have a sugestion ?
    Thanks.

    Kevin, I don't which version of 9iAS you are trying to install, but as far as I can tell no 9i versions of the application server are certified against Windows 2003, only 10g is certified against Windows 2003. So what's probably happening is the installer doesn't recognize Windows 2003 and thinks it's a non-patched version of Windows 2000. You should either install Windows 2000 SP1 (minimum) or install Oracle 10gAS.

  • Oracle 10g Grid Control Installation On RedHat Advanced Server 3.0

    I am planing to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 1 (v10.1.0.3)
    on RedHat Advanced Server 3.0. The agent I am trying to download is showing version 10.1.0.4.1. I am not sure iof this agent is going to work with (v10.1.0.3). Pl. let me know if someone has performed this installation. Do I need to apply any patch on OEM and agent.
    Thanks
    Raj

    Actually, entirely the other way around, unless you like seeing errors in your OMS.
    OMS must be at at least the same patch level as the communicating agents.
    10.1.0.3 agent against a 10.1.0.4 OMS = OK
    10.1.0.4 agent against a 10.1.0.3 OMS = Bad mojo
    Download the 10.1.0.4.1 patchset from Metalink and update your OMS, or stick with the 10.1.0.3 agent if you've no access to metalink.

  • Problems with Oracle 9iAS in Windows NT version spanish

    Hello:
    We want to know if anybody has successfully installed Oracle 9iAS in a Windows NT Server (service pack 6) version spanish (not english).
    We suspect that the the language of the NT machine (spanish) is the cause of the following error message when we try to configurate the Database Cache of the 9iAS:
    "UNABLE TO VALIDATE NT CREDENTIALS"
    when we give the password of the administrator user who is logged in NT.
    Any help will be very appreciated by us.

    Try placing this file in the \WINNT\system32 directory. The builder does not automatically include this file or install in on the new machine.

    You haven't set up your prerequisites such as
    pdksh version
    binutils version
    do the commands rpm -qa | grep pdksh
    and rpm -qa | grep binutils
    to see which versions you have installed (if any)
    You need to set up Environment ulimit and kernel parameters
    its in the documentation but to summarise:
    to set the ulimits for the oracle user.
    Type cd /etc/security
    Type vi limits.conf
    Add the following lines to the file.
    @oracle<tab><tab>hard<tab>nofile<tab><tab>65535
    @oracle<tab><tab>hard<tab>nproc<tab><tab>16384
    @dba<tab><tab>hard<tab>nofile<tab><tab>65535
    @dba<tab><tab>hard<tab>nproc<tab><tab>16384
    Save the file.
    Note: <tab> means press the tab key.
    Check that this has worked by typing
    su – oracle
    ulimit – aH
    You should see something like this
    core file size (blocks) unlimited
    data seg size (kbytes) unlimited
    file size (blocks) unlimited
    max locked memory (kbytes) unlimited
    max memory size (kbytes) unlimited
    open files 65535
    pipe size (512 bytes) 8
    stack size (kbytes) unlimited
    cpu time (seconds) unlimited
    max user processes 16384
    virtual memory (kbytes) unlimited
    Press CTRL-D to get back to the root shell.
    You now need to set the kernel parameters.
    Type cd /etc
    Type vi sysctl.conf
    Add the following lines to the file
    # Oracle additions
    kernel.sem = 100 32000 100 100
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmmni = 100
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
    fs.file-max = 65536
    Save the file
    Reboot the system to bring in the changes.
    Logon as root and do the following:
    Type cd /etc
    Type vi services
    Remove the following 4 lines
    ldap 389/tcp
    ldap 389/udp
    ldaps 636/tcp # LDAP over SSL
    ldaps 636/udp # LDAP over SSL
    Save the file.
    Type cd /bin
    Type ln –s /sbin/fuser fuser
    All these must be set up before you install oracle 9ias on Linux otherwise you will get the problems you describe :-)

  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
    As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
    RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
    kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
    Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
    Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ljubomir Buturovic

    Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • CLOSE_WAIT problems with Oracle 9iAS on Solaris

    All,
    We have some simple JSP + Sevlets running on Oracle 9iAS on a Solaris server. After the App Server has been running for a couple of minutes we start to get several TCP connections with a CLOSE_WAIT status - as shown by a netstat output.
    These seem to be a result of a FIN_WAIT_2 and CLOSE_WAIT pairing eg
    Local Remote Swind Send-Q Rwind Recv-Q Status
    SERVER.43009 SERVER.80 49152 0 49152 0 CLOSE_WAIT
    SERVER.80 SERVER.43009 49152 0 49152 0 FIN_WAIT_2
    Over time the FIN_WAIT_2 is removed, leaving the CLOSE_WAITs.
    Has anyone else had this problem?
    Keith

    We're having similar problem. We have lot's of close_wait between Apache and OC4J.

    Adding Xerces XML parser is not enough to make it work. Since some version of JDK (I think 1.4.X) XML parser is included and for older version it can be setup like a runtime option. And this is probably how ORACLE is using its XML parser. If you want to use different parser, you have to pass runtime option to JVM - for Xalan it looks like this:
    -Djavax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory=org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl
    ...this way it becomes default parser factory used by javax interface functions. Look for documentation on xml.apache.org

    2.Does Orale 9iAS have Orace Database Server

    I don't really understand why you are using almost 6 years old distribution (release date 2002/09/30).
    What's the sense? Time has changed and of course SW included in this distro has changed (significantly) and especially glibc.
    10g R1 is certified for RH EL 2.1. When I compare version of packages (RH 8 vs RHEL 2.1) it could be possible (easily) to install on RH 8. For 10g R2 you need defintely upgrade at least glibc* packages.
