Installing Applescript Studio

Hi,
Where can I get AppleScript Studio? I can't find it preinstalled on my Mac Mini, nor on the MacOS X double CD. Is there some place I can download it without needing to get the full XCode or Dev Tools?
Thanks!
Raph

AppleScript Studio is not a separate "tool"... it's more or less just a different type of project that you can create and build in Xcode. So you'll use Xcode for creating your AS Studio source files and building your product and you'll use Interface Builder for creating your user interface and connecting the objects in your interface to the AppleScript handlers that they trigger.
I suppose it does seem like a big download if you are under the impression that AS Studio is just an extension of plain vanilla AppleScript. But in some ways AS Studio is almost more like an extension of Cocoa. An AS Studio app can make use of most or all of the user interface items that Cocoa can use and it can control/interrogate those items using handlers and properties that AS Studio provides. In addition, through the use of AS Studio's "call method" you can make direct calls to Cocoa methods to perform actions that AS Studio doesn't provide out of the box.

  • Option+Return does not work in applescript studio

Fresh install of osx 10.4.6 Tiger, newest release of xcode.
I start an applescript studio application project, when editing in Xcode Option+Return does not insert the continue line character.
I can open the same .applescript in the Applescript Editor and Option+Return does work.
Also, Option+Return works in my desktop installation of Xcode. No idea what's different here or how to fix it, but it's really messing with my work flow.

    Moved to .NET SDK forum.
Search here, lots of post on IIS and setting Printer Access Permissions for your application.
Also search MSDN on what is required to for IIS to access local Printers.
Also search for ActiveX Controls and Browser permissions, you'll likely have problems there also since most Browsers will not or do not recommend allowing any ActiveX control.

  • Applescript studio app and plist???

    Hi everyone!
If I have an Applescript studio app and I don't write anything to a plist is it still possible the app will make it's own plist for any reason? Seems to be but I can't tell for sure because seems not to be consistent. Any help would be great!
    Thanks,
    Reg

On second thought, the plist file might be created if
you display something. I just did a clean install so
everything's new. Let me check with one of the apps
that displays a an open dialog or something.
Yes there are certain things in AS Studio that will write to a plist file. One example I know of is if you give any of your windows an "Auto Save Name" (in the "Attribute" pane of IB's inspector pane). The "Auto Save Name" will be used as the key to a plist entry that auto-saves the window's size and position on screen. When you re-run your app the window will be opened with the size and location stored in the plist.
I believe kel may also be correct that if your app displays an open or save dialog then some state information about those dialogs will be saved to your plist.
You can always use "plutil" to convert the plist file from binary to xml and then display the contents to see what's in there...
    <pre>
    plutil -convert xml1 /path/to/file.plist
    cat /path/to/file.plist
    </pre>

    Steve,
This is the message I sent earlier with new findings:
After I deleted "Smart Crash Reports.bundle" in /Library/InputManagers/, I rebooted, went to AS Studio to see if there were any problems, and guess what ?
The Debugger started working. It's been broken as long as I can remember. Every time I've wanted to learn how to work with AS Studio since it came out, the Debugger has never worked, and I always ended up moving on to something else.
    This is awesome...

    Hi Bill.
Make sure you're building a debug version of the project in order for breakpoints to work. In Xcode you set this with Project > Set Active Build Configuration > Debug .
This was the very first thing I checked the other day when I started trying to learn AS Studio in earnest.
Also I don't think those messages you are seeing about Smart Crash REports.bundle actually indicate that the app has crashed; it's just reporting that it can't load this bundle for some reason, and then proceeding anyway - I don't see anything that indicates your app has crashed.
    I read a long article at : http://daringfireball.net/2006/01/smartcrashreports
and came away without a real solution. It was close to 3 am so I was barely awake, but came away confused as to what the solution was. I had used Unsanity's products particularly the menu product, but they caused too many problems with Quickeys and 4th Dimension. After talking to the people that write Quickeys, I disabled all their stuff and everything started working fine with Quickeys and 4D. They are far more important for me, that the Unsanity stuff.
I agree with the Daring Fireball article, and am annoyed that Unsanity patches the OS without asking for permission. I won't buy their products any more.
That bundle is something that certain third-party applications install which attempts to email crash reports for their apps back to their authors, rather than to Apple. I don't know what app you might have installed that included this but it would probably be safe to remove the bundle. (Double clicking on it wouldn't do anything; it's not intended to be double clicked; it just sits there and waits to be loaded.)
After I wrote the original message I realized that it wasn't double clickable, but by then it was too late. I think it was probably Unsanity's APE, or FruitMenu. If you look at /Library/InputManagers/ there's an "info" file, and a "Smart Crash Reports.bundle". I just deleted both of them, if it causes a problem I'll copy them from another machine that doesn't have it. I'm not sure but I believe they patch the original one from Apple. I'm not sure if that is correct?

  • AppleScript Studio 1.1 or later...

I tried to run the "Fetch Art" script in iTunes 7.5 and received an error telling me that I need "AppleScript Studio 1.1 or later."
I have Tiger 10.4.10 with the XCode 2 Developer Tools installed, but I do not find any AppleScript Studio anywhere.
I also looked back on my OSX CD (10.4.6) and found nothing regarding it specifically.
I cannot get detailed instructions anywhere on how to install the Studio or where to get it.
    Sure would appreciate any help.

I just wanted to clear this old question.

  • AppleScript Studio Location?

I downloaded the Xcode tools volume specifically for the Applescript Studio app. The only problem is, i can't seem to locate that app in particular in the volume . There are a dozen or so packages can anyone tell me which one contains it? I'd rather not install a whole bunch of stuff that i'm probably won't use or just test each one. I have all ready installed the Developer tools.pkg and it wasn't in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey,
AppleScript Studio is a part of Xcode and not a seperate application. To create an AppleScript Studio project simply launch Xcode and select AppleScript Application as the project type when asked. If you are new to AppleScript Studio you might want to try googling for AppleScript Studio.

  • Applescript Studio: Lion

Before you tell me, I realize that Applescript Studio is not longer supported in xcode 4.0 (which *****).   But I was wondering if it would be possible to download an earlier version of xcode, that still has applescript studio, and if that would work.  That would be really great if that is possible.
Alternatively, if anyone has any alternatives to Applescript Studio that would also be nice.  I know that ASOC (applescript objc) is an alternative, but from what I've seen, it looks really different from applescript.
    Thanks in advanced, Boboonski

Xcode 3.2.6 (some people still prefer it) can be installed on Lion with a little trickery - a Google search comes up with several solutions.  AppleScriptObjC is way superior to AppleScript Studio though, with the main difference being in the way that Cocoa is used.  Figuring out the appropriate Cocoa classes and methods is the biggest pain in either one, but the AppleScript parts are still AppleScript.

  • Building a stand-alone AppleScript Studio application

I’m taking a crack at building my first stand-alone application with AppleScript Studio. After many attempts to locate the needed “build” information in the various documentation resources I’m still pretty much poking around in the dark ...
My application runs fine in the Xcode IDE. No problems. The application that Xcode saves in the project’s Debug folder runs too, (well, on the computer I developed it on) even if I move it out of its folder ...
However, the app. doesn’t run on other macs. When double-clicked and it sorta fizzles without ever opening — wondering if the debug version relies on some resources within the project. I've installed it on a PowerBook and iBook, both running Mac OS 10.4
I tried Build/Release. This also produced an application (in the Build/Release folder) which when failing to launch and causes the OS to burp, “You cannot open the application “My First App” because it may be damaged or incomplete.” This app will not run on my development computer or other laptops (PowerBook and iBook.)
Build/Release also invoked three Xcode compiler error messages that seem to indicate that I need to change the NIB settings:
/usr/bin/ld: warning /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.9.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/Cocoa.framework/Coco a cputype (18, architecture ppc) does not match cputype (7) for specified -arch flag: i386 (file not loaded)

    _NSApplicationMain
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Also tried Clean All. Same result.
I'm sure there's a simple step ... which I will remember well, 'cause I'm learning it the hard way.
    John

You're right. You can't move a debug version of the app to another computer unless you copy the entire project folder. The debug version of the app requires access to other by-products of the build process in order to run.
Build/Release also invoked three Xcode compiler error
messages that seem to indicate that I need to change
    the NIB settings:
The following errors are not related to your NIB file. They indicate you're trying to link against the 10.3.9 frameworks on an intel CPU. The 10.3.9 frameworks are PPC only.

Take a look at the suggestions I made in this thread to make sure your project is set up to build a universal binary and to ensure that you're linking against the 10.4 universal frameworks.

  • Installing Sun Studio 12 on Ubuntu 8.04

When I try to install Sun Studio 12 with the graphical installer, I get a message half was through that Java is not installed. In my case Sun's Java was already installed. I tell the Sun Studio installer to do the update and it finished what it was doing. After the install is done, I found that the Sun Studio executable is missing, so it looked like the installation did not work. What version of Java is Sun Studio expecting and does it need to be tied to a specific path? Is there a known method for installing Java for Sun Studio 12?
After this I uninstalled Java and Netbeans and started the system prep tool, which correctly said I was missing netbeans and java. I had the system prep tool install netbeans successfully but I get this message when trying to install java:
    error: Failed dependencies:

I could not find any log files with error information from Express or Sun Studio 12. Any ideas? Not yet :-) Can you try to build and debug a sample project? Does it show the same problem?
I mean one of several sample projects, that are shipped with the Sun Studio IDE.
Start "sunstudio", from main menu: "File->New Project", select Samples->C/C++/Fortran->Welcome
Did you try to run compilers and other tools?
Please, make sure they work. For example, run the following commands:
    cc -V
    CC -V
    f90 -V
    collect -V
    dbx -V
    dmake -v

  • Launching VB6 Editor after installing Visual Studio 2013 results in "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio..."

I have had various versions of Visual Studio installed beside Visual Basic 6.0 Enterprise for some time with no problems, most recently Visual Studio 2012 Premium.
I recently installed Visual Studio 2013 Premium, and now every time I open VB6 I get a dialog that says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2013" that shows a progress bar. After it finishes (30 seconds or
so), it launches again and again and finally VB6 will open. This happens with each instance of VB6, regardless if I've already done it once and never run VS2013 in between.
If I cancel the dialog, I get this error message in a dialog: "Error 1712. One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found. Restoration will not be possible." Several more "Please wait"...
dialogs will appear and if I continue to cancel, eventually I'll get the VB6 editor. It appear to work fine despite the error messages.
It seems to me that the VS2013 installer flagged some dll's or other files to be rolled back whenever starting VB6. It doesn't appear to be necessary, and I'd like to avoid playing the "Please wait" wack-a-cancel-button game before launching each
instance of VB6 (or waiting several minutes for no reason). So how do I fix this?
Note: I've seen something similar happen in Outlook on a different PC when upgrading from 2010 to 2013. The same sort of "Please wait"... dialog would appear each time I opened Outlook. Judging by the "similar" questions that popped up when
entering this forum post, I'd say this is a general problem with upgrading older versions or installing newer versions of major Microsoft software side-by-side.
    /* Don Reynolds */

    I found the answer!
I was having the exact same issue, and I was search for a solution and I happened across the following thread: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f4b0fd38-f4f9-41ea-bd8d-834203a175d2/building-visual-studio-2010-project-triggers-please-wait-while-windows-configures-visual-studio?forum=vssetup&prof=required
Scroll a small bit down, and there is a post by Barry Wang explaining that you need to use event viewer to find out what is missing. Anyway, I opened event viewer, then open VS 6, then hit refresh in the event viewer (under Windows Logs -> Application)
and saw a warning message from MsiInstaller. It gave me the following message:
Detection of product '{9C593464-7F2F-37B3-89F8-7E894E3B09EA}', feature 'Visual_Studio_Professional_x86_enu', component '{E3FF99AA-78B9-4A06-8A74-869E9F65E1FE}' failed.  The resource 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\URTInstallPath_GAC\' does
    not exist.
I opened an elevated command prompt, I navigated to the C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework folder and verified that 'URTInstallPath_GAC' didn't exist, and then I did "md URTInstallPath_GAC".
Closed and reopened VS 6, and it instantly opened - no "Please wait" message.
Now this may or may not be the same problem you are having (problem is - I have had it happen on two separate computers now with VS 6 and VS 2013 installed), but it should point you in the right direction. In fact, you should be able to use the Event Viewer
for anytime the "Please wait" message shows up for any application, and then once there find out what is really missing.

Ok so i recently bought my first ever iMac.

It's in your Logic Studio license agreement:
    2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.

    Yes
The licence details depend on how you originally purchased Logic. The original (DVD) licence allows for you to have Logic installed on 2 computers, provided that you do not use both at the same time.
The Appstore Licence allows you to install on any computer that you own. See this article for a simple guide

  • Create a tab view item in obj-c for use in applescript studio

I'm making an application with applescript studio. I want to be able to add tab view items to a tab view at the press of a button. The problem I have is applescript studio doesn't allow me to create a new tab view item. So I'm thinking I can create the tab view item using objective-c, pass that to my applescript, then add it to my tab view.
In applescript I plan to use the following call methods to first create the tab view item object, and then add it to my tab view. The objective-c code which is called from the first line in the applescript code is below that. When I run my code I'm getting an error saying newTVI is not defined... so maybe you can see my error! Be kind to me because I'm new to objective-c and I'm sure that's where my problem lies. Anyway, I'd appreciate any help.

  • AppleScript Studio/Xcode problem - Problem with text entries! Please help!

Hey, I've been up for hours each night looking for solutions to this but still have had no luck.
I am creating an app in Xcode/Applescript studio that will ask you to enter how many times you would like system events to repeat a certain keystroke. First of all, the code would look something like this:
    on click theObject
If the name of theObject is equal to "myApplication" then
(Right here would be where the variables representing text in an input in the app's window would be, which I have absolutely no clue what to type.)
    tell application "text edit"
    activate
    tell application "system events"
    keystroke x (x representing a variable)
    end tell
    end tell
    end clicked
and that's about as far as I can get. I want a variable representing the text in the main text entry box, but I have no clue how to access that text, or even know if it's submitted or detected when I hit a button. Hopefully you're following, as I am way to confused to fully explain it, but please try and help me out if you can.
