Installing BI Server & Presentation Server on 2 different Linux Boxes-OBIEE

Hi,
I am trying to install OBI EE on Red Hat Linux Boxes. I have to install BI Server on one Linux box and Presentation Server on another Linux box. Both are in the same network. I will be installing Apache web server on the machine where Presentation server resides. Please let me know how will Presentation server talk to BI server since both are going to be in different machines.
I know that I have to point the DSN in the Instanceconfig.INI file to the linux box where BI server resides. I know that I have to modify analytics.war file.
I would really appreciate if anyone can give me some direction in regards to installations.

All you have to do is to modify the web.xml file in your Analytics.war file to tell it the BI Server name and port and it will work.

Installing Presentation Server on a separate server

Hi All,
I have installed the entire business intelligence enterprise edition on one server (Server A), I subsequently installed the presentation services on a different server (Server B), Does Anyone know where I configure the settings?, so the presentation services points to the B.I server on Server A.
During the install I choose the Windows server account name and password. I choose LocalSystem for both servers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do I add my Custom Workflow Activity to FIM 2010 R2 SP1 installed on Windows 2012 server?

Hellos.
I have tried and failed to add my custom.dll into the Windows Server 2012 GAC.
We have a version of FIM 2010 R2 Sp1 running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and that was no problem. There seemed to be a gacutil.exe present on the system which added my assembly.
I cannot find gacutil.exe on the Windows 2012 Server.
I have downloaded and installed Windows SDK for Windows 8. However, when I try the gacutil.exe /i <myCustom.dll> nothing seems to happen.
Are there any guidelines how to add custom workflow activities to FIM when installed on a Windows Server 2012 system?

Well yes. It is fine when FIM is hosted on Windows Server 2008 R2.My difficulty is that I am using FIM 2010 R2 Sp1 and Windows Server 2012. No GACutility executable.
However, the problem has been resolved. Powershell can be used to modify the assemblies.
I opened a RunAs Administrator PS session. My assembly is in folder c:\Temp
Using Windows Explorer I browsed the folder c:\windows\assembly and noted the System.EnterpriseServices entries: version (2.0.0.0) and public key token (b03f5f7f11d50a3a)
(My version is 2.0.0.0 because when installing FIM and SharePoint 2013 the instructions I used suggested setting .Net version to be 2.0)
These powershell commands got me going...

How to install yosemite on lion server without server application

I have osx 10.7.5 (that's all it says when I click about this app, but I know the computer was installed with lion with server app originally). I don't need nor want the server app, and am happy to remove it one way or another. Server is currently disabled. I want to know how to upgrade to mavericks or yosemite without any server aspect at all. Can it be done? I have googled until my head has exploded and am none the wiser. Most people seem to be unsuccessful. I did previously try to install mavericks when it came out but it came up with some random scary message and I cancelled it.
Both my mac mini 2011 disks are in use for different reasons - one tends to be more operational such as the operating system and apps, the other to save all my photos, videos and files mainly. I have a separate ext hard drive for time machine back ups.
I have no tech skills whatsoever, so baby language please. Be specific. Outline EVERY step in simple language. Or I will cry!

There's nothing special you have to do. Just upgrade. The Server app won't come back.

How do I upload only a few lines of a file from the presentation server?

Hi there guys,
I'd like to upload the contents of a file on my HD (presentation server) to an internal table. I know this can be achieved by using the GUI_UPLOAD function module. But what if I only want to upload a part of the file, not the whole thing? Like the first 100 bytes or 10 lines or something like that. Some files are just way too big to upload them as a whole. I tried using the OPEN DATASET statement, but that seems to work only for files on the application server. If I try to open 'C: emp est.txt' (for example) with OPEN DATASET, I get an error. Do I have to put the filename differently or am I totally wrong with OPEN DATASET? I'm kinda stuck here and I'd appreciate your help.

thanks for your reply. If I understand you correctly, this means I will have to wait for GUI_UPLOAD to upload the whole file and afterwards filter into another table. I don't want to upload the whole thing because it's that big, I'd like to only upload a portion of it in the first place. Can this be done?

Earlier I had issues with starting presentation server , so i installed OBIEE again.
I started all the services and Started oc4j.
And i'm able to open the Administrator tool. But get error in IE while opening presentation server.

Step : 1: Check your NQSCONFIG.ini file and in Repository section should be like
[ REPOSITORY ]
Star = bise1.rpd, DEFAULT;
or
[ REPOSITORY ]
bise1 = bise1.rpd, DEFAULT;
Step : 2 : Open ODBC Data source Administration ->System DSN and then Select AnalyticsWeb - Oracle BI Server
In Oracle BI Server LoginId and Password window you should check and enable the Change the default repository to
Here the name should be Star or bise1 ( Refer step:1:)
Click next and enable Change the default catalog to and select the Database (highlighted gray to blue color)
Leave others are default.
Note : whatever repository will be put under change Default repository section will be override by the DEFAULT settings in NQSCONFIG.ini .You can tick “Connect to Oracle BI Server to obtain default settings for the additional configuring”, so that RPD connection will be established as per the definition in .ini file after BI server restart.

Installing Imagemagick on OSX Server

I'm trying to install Imagemagick onto the server. If I follow these instructions

I get an error of:
dyld: unknown required load command 0x80000022 osx server imagemagick
I've looked around and can't seem to find anywhere that tells me how to install it
I'm wondering whether to use macports but will this change my localhost directories, etc... and mess up the other things I have running on the server

I've installed Imagemagick on 10.5 and 10.6 client. Haven't had the need on server yet but it shouldn't be much different. Other installs to /usr/local on server have worked fine for me.
XCODE 3 and X11 must be installed prior to continuing with the following installation on Mac OS 10.4 & 10.5

which has you run a series of bash scripts: at http://pastie.org/254887
This loads the modern image formats (jpeg and png), then ghostscript fonts needed for rmagick.
Then ImageMagick itself is loaded and all links point to it within the location it was compiled.
I selected /usr/local
Test the installation by
start up an X11 terminal window by starting Applications -> Utilities -> X11
$ cd ImageMagick-6.5.2-5/images
$ convert logo: logo.gif
$ identify logo.gif
$ display logo.gif
which should produce the sorcerer image on the X11 terminal window.
There is a single shell script for doing all this on 10.6 with the options for architecture setup.

OBIEE 10g: Presentation Cache in Second Instance of Presentation Server

Hi everyone,
I've been having an issue with my presentation cache disappearing every couple of minutes.
I'm working with OBIEE 10.1.3.4, on Oracle Application Server on a Linux RHEL 5.4 32bit. I've spun up a second instance of the presentation service using the commands from RNM1978's blog here (http://rnm1978.wordpress.com/2009/08/25/multiple-rpds-on-one-server-part-2-presentation-services/). The reason why I have a second instance of the presentation service is for mobile reporting purposes. We have lots of executives using iPhones and the Oracle Business Intelligence Indicators application. The second instance defaults all charts to be PNGs, it also uses a separate, clean catalog, so that the executives don't get lost in all of the out of the box BI Applications content that is in our main catalog.
Everything is setup and working properly, both presentation services are accessible and use the same RPD but different catalogs. The only thing that isn't working is the presentation service cache. A lot of these reports are QTD or YTD so it takes a few minutes to run some. We were hoping to use iBots to create BI Server cache at the beginning of the day. That seemed to help a bit but it seems to clear after a few minutes.
Additionally, before we went to do demos to end users, we would run all the reports from a demo iPhone. Go to do the demo and within five minutes, the presentation cache would have already cleared. I confirmed the same by looking in the Session Manager of the second presentation service.
Does anyone know why this would be happening? I have cache turned on in the bi server and I also have the following settings in my instanceconfigMobile.XML:

I can't say I've tried Robin's technique to run two presentation servers but from my basic understanding of it, both versions will share the same cache as defined in a single nqsconfig.ini file. Maybe these 2 are conflicting somehow?
I see that a separate instanceconfig.xml is used for each presentation server. I know there are a bunch of advanced, largely undocumented, cache properties you can set in there. I can send you a document listing the various properties if you want to play with it - contact me via my website.

Setting authorization on presentation server objects

Hi all,
i need to set different authorization levels for a subset of columns in my model. Example: i have the presentation table "Customer", i want to show the presentation column Name, Surname, Fiscal Code, Retribution to a subset of users with high-level privileges, and all the other columns (age, sex, etc...) to all the other users.
Anyone knows if this is possible by using the Authorization scheme on the repository, presentation server? If it's possible, can i filter on a specific role/group?

Permissions are two types; Data level and Object level
Object level:
Presentation column general properties-> Permissions and add group
Data level: logical table source table properties->Content tab

Can BO XI and CE 10 be installed on the same server?

We are preparing to upgrade our existing CE 10 to BO XI; however, we were unable to obtain a test server and will need to install it on the same server that CE 10 resides on (our development server). I heard that both versions could not reside on the same server and I need this confirmed by a SME. Thank you. ~emoreno

I'm not sure that my question was answered. I just need to know whether CE10 and BO XI can be installed on the same server? I have a development server (not a VM) with CE 10 and another customer wants to install BO XI on the same server. I heard through other sources that BO XI and CE 10 cannot reside on the same server. I need to know if this statement is accurate? If BO XI cannot reside on the same server as CE 10, then our contracted vendor will have to provide t this customer with a different server. I need this information confirmed in order to notify my management.

Can NOT restart Oracle BI Presentation Server on Windows XP

Oracle BI server 10.1.3.4.1 installed in Windows XP.
I stop the Oracle BI Presentation server and Oracle BI server for some reason, and restart them. BI server start sucessfully, but Oracle BI Presentation server restart failed.
Here is message I got.

I fixed the problem. I forgot </CatalogPath> in c:\OracleBIData\web\config\instanceconfig.xml

I can install IIS on as many servers as I want, regardless of where I've already installed it.
Installing IIS on a WSUS server (which as you pointed out happens automatically) does not in any way inhibit me from installing it on another server or servers, or every server I own. Installing IIS has NO dependency on WSUS (although
WSUS does seem to depend on IIS)
But the question remains WSUS seems to be presented as a web-based service via IIS. Great!.. so why CAN'T we have a front-end Reverse Proxy? If the prox is acutally a PROXY, then by the very definition of "PROXY" it is acting
on behalf of another. Why CAN'T it simply re-write the request and pass it on "on behalf of" the requesting computer?

Using iChat to communicate with Pidgin users on a Citrix Presentation Serve

We have been using iChat on OS X and Pidgin on Windows XP in our environment for several months now. We use Bonjour as the protocol so it makes for a very lightweight easy, inexpensive IM solution on our network (no server component needed).
I hadn't noticed it before today, but I was communicating with a Pidgin user who was using a Citrix Presentation Server login (running Pidgin within that session), and the name that iChat displayed as the person I was talking to was not the actual person that was talking to me. iChat was displaying a different user who was also using Pidgin in another current session on the Citrix box. If I fired up Pidgin on my XP virtual machine and ran Pidgin from there, the user name is identified properly.
So it appears that iChat is tying the user name of the IM session to the IP address and then looking it up from the list, which results in a random mis-identification of the IM user on the Citrix session. BTW, there was a Bonjour update a few days ago, it may actually be Bonjour rather than iChat itself. Anyone have any suggestions, ideas, bug fixes?

It does seem a bit odd.
Note:
By default Bonjour broadcasts and receives data on port 5353 on UDP Protocol to let other Macs know it is there (Linked to mDNSResponder in Activity Monitor).
