Installing reporting on a multi-server farm

Hi guys,
I am trying to set up SharePoint reporting services for Sharepoint 2013. I have installed the Reporting services and the reporting services add-on on the Application server, do I need to install this on the web server also.
Thanks

The SSRS addon must be installed on the WFE, yes.  The Reporting Services service does not need to be installed on the WFE.

  • SharePoint Multi-Server Farm with LB and SQL Cluster.

    Helllo,
We are setting up a Multi Server SharePoint 2013 Farm with a Load-Balancer.
We are also using SQL Server 2012, Two Node Cluster.
We have SQL Server Instance Running as a Service. Also I managed to install PowerPivot for SharePoint as a Instance.
Looking at various article's I have question if this Cluster Setup supported in SharePoint 2013.
Can the SharePoint Farm use this PowerPivot Instance as a failover service?
Or do I have to install Analysis services separately on Both SQL Nodes?
If so how do I configure Excel Services on SharePoint?
    Thank you
    Sham

PowerPivot is installed on the SharePoint server and is a scale-out service (you just install it on multiple SharePoint servers and make sure the Service Instance is started in SharePoint). Same with Excel Calc Services (but for this one you don't have
to install anything, just start it).

  • Deploy custom solutions in multi-server farm

We are trying to migrate all the 2010 custom solutions to 2013 and we have 3 WFE's and 3 APP servers in our farm. Central Admin is on one of the APP servers. So when I try to add the custom solutions in this new farm, what is the correct process in
    deploying those custom solutions?
I am thinking to run the powershell commands (ADD_SPSolution and Install-SPSolution) on the APP server where the CA is installed and will this deploy the files on all the WFE's or Do I need to manually deploy on all the WFE's? Is it true that we need
to start the deployment on the server where the CA is installed?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Aparna.

    Yes, You are right.
    To Add
    Add-SPSolution -LiteralPath c:\contoso_solution.wsp
    To install
    Install-SPSolution -Identity contoso_solution.wsp -GACDeployment
You have to select the parameter appropriately i.e webapplication url, Compatibility  etc

  • Forms, Reports, Discoverer, OHS Multi-server

So the plan was a 3 server installation.
Server 1: MD Repository and OID
Server 2: J2EE and Web Cache install w/ OHS and Web Cache enabled
Server 3: BI & Forms install w/ just Forms, Reports and Discoverer enabled.
I planned to have OHS and mod_OC4J on server 2 handling HTTP requests for the BI_FORMS container on server 3 (See the recomended topologies in the 10gAS security and high avalibility guides) I'm running in to a problem, Discoverer and Forms pull JInitiator and some other files from OHS. These files are not installed with the J2EE and Web Cache install type so they are not availible for OHS on Server 2.
    I can see two solutions.
    1) Copy the files needed by Forms and Discoverer from server 3 to server 2 and setup the config for OHS to use them.
    2) Change the install type of server 2 from J2EE and Web Cache to a BI & Forms install and disable everything other than except OHS and Web Cache.
The problem w/ #1 is that i'm sure I won't get any support from Oracle for it and my boss really won't like that.
The problem w/ #2 is that in production there will be at least two installs like Server 2 behind a hardware load balancer. I would really like to be able to use clustering so I don't have to make config changes on every OHS server. However clustering is not supported with BI & Forms type installs. This solution also just seems kind of wastefull. If I don't need to do this, I may be able to get by with just a Standard Edition liscense for these servers.
Does anyone have another solution? Anyone doing something similar?

I have now found another possible solution. I have been able to take the aliases from the forms90.conf and disco.conf on server 3 and translate them into OC4J virtual directories on the BI_FORMS oc4j instance. I had to put 3 VDs on the forms90 web module and 2 VDs on the discoverer web module. Things seem to work great, but I would still like to know how others are doing this.

  • Is it possible to deploy 2 SCOM 2012 R2 reporting in a SQL server which already has SCOM reporting of a different management group but with 2 different reporting instance.

    Hi Experts,
I have a typical situation in the LAB environment. Hope some one helps. I have Installed a SCOM 2012 R2 with SQL 2012 SP1 in a single server (Management group 1). I have installed another management group on another server using this SQL server for its database
so i have everything going fine.
The first management group has its reporting installed in the SQL server. For the second i created a new named instance for that. But i cannot run the SCOM setup in the SQL server (Also holding the Management group 1 MS) as 1 st reporting is already there.
When i run the setup it is asking me to repair it. I don't get the install option so i can install the reporting for management group 2 in the named instance.
Default instance is being used by the 1st management group.
Can any one figure a possibility for installing 2 SCOM reporting services for different management groups in a same SQL 2012 server please.

    Hi Yan Li,
Thank you for the reply. So as you are aware If i need to instal reporting, i need to run the SCOM 2012 R2 setup in the SQL server and select reporting and select the
instance and then mention the management server there right. I am not getting that option there it is asking me to remove or repair the existing installation as there is already a SCOM entire setup including reporting there. As it is a lab there is no problem
in testing. I have 2 reporting instances. Any suggestions for me on how to overcome this issue and deploy the second reporting in the new named instance ?
Below is the screenshot of the error what i am talking about when i run SCOM 2012 R2 setup to install reporting in the SQL server
When i click on add feature reporting is greyed out (As already 1st management groups reporting is installed)
When i click on remove or repair it
uninstalls the existing one. But i want both SCOM 2012 r2 reporting to be there(For both Management group). Is it possible ? If yes What is the trick to run the setup ?

  • Reporting Service integration but dont' want install SharePoint Component on SQL server

    1) Server Farm 1 Sharepoint 2010 Server, 1 SQL 2008 R2 Server. I want to use RS SharePoint Integration mode, but don't want install RS Add-in and SharePoint components then join Farm, want the SQL server to be a dedicate SQL server. can I use one(or one
of the SharePoint server to run RS web site, but put only the reportserver database in SQL server ? Can I do this ?
    2) in another test, I installed SharePoint(have to install all not WFE) on SQL and joined SQL server to SharePoint Farm, but I did not see \Reportserver in IIS, but I can browse http://MY_SQL_Server/reportserver site, someone says, RS in SQL 2008 don't use
    IIS, is this true ?
    3) If the 1st option does not work, can I install a 2nd SQL server as RS server(put only reportserver database on it, and join to SharePoint Farm if must), put all other SharePoint DB on another SQL server ?
    Thanks
    Jason

    Hello Jason,
You cannot configure a report server in a SQL Server without SharePoint products being installed.
If you are configuring a report server to run in SharePoint integrated mode in a SharePoint farm, you must install front-end Web server components of a SharePoint product on the report server computer, I think that is the minimal installation of SharePoint
Server 2010 on Report Server. To install and configure SharePoint web front end on Report Server, please see How to: Install a SharePoint Web Front-end on a Report Server Computer.
Here is a step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring Reporting Services in SharePoint integrated mode in a multi-server deployment topology. Hope it can be helpful to you.

  • Use of SQL Reporting Services in BPC (multi-server environment) - concept

    Hello Experts,
    I have the following scenario:
2 BPC application servers. Lets call them BPCA1 and BPCA2.
Load Balancer with virtual name BPCA
    SQL 2005 database server BPCDB
Database server would hold BPC databases and Report Server database - requires 1 SQL Server license.
Each application server requires SQL Server Integration Services to be installed - 2 SQL Server Standard Edition licenses in my scenario.
Now, is Reporting Services a required component and needs to be installed on both application servers?
Because "scale-out" deployment for Reporting Services is only supported in SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Price difference between Standard and Enterprise Editions are quite sufficient.
So, can I install SQL Server Reporting Services only on BPCA1 and point BPC configuration to BPCA1 for all applications servers?
What is the use of SQL Server Reporting Services in BPC besides running Admin Reports?
    Thanks in advance,
    Akim

Hi RS is not required to be installed into db server or app server. It  can be even an external RS server.
You are right if you will try to install RS in both app server you need Enterprise Edition because is required by Microsoft for RS web farm.
If you will install RS into database server then you don't need other license for SQL but if you will use SQL Server 2005 you have to install IIS into database server.
For many companies this broke some security policies and for this reason you have to install RS into appserver.
If you will use SQL Server 2008 then IIS is not required anymore and this is another plus in favor of SQL 2008.
Also SAP recomendations is to use SQl Server 2008 for SAP BPC 7.0 SP3 or later becaiuse the performances are better.
    RS is used for:
Admin reportts. Audit Reports Journal Reports.
But without RS working you can have issue also with some Admin components not really just with reports.

  • "unable to connect to the data access service" installing report server

Trying to do a 2 server SCOM 2012 R2 install on Server 2012 w/SQL 2012.  Management server and operations console on one, and SQL, web console, and reporting server on the other.  When I get to the web console and reporting server install, and
the "Specify Management Server" screen, I input the 1st management server name and it gives me a red X with the message:
"Unable to connect to the Data Access service for this management server. Ensure the Data Access service is running and that the service, the management group, and setup are all the same version."
Here is the setup log error:
"Info: :Could not connect to Management Server: scom-app with exception: Threw Exception.Type: System.ArgumentException, Exception Error Code: 0x80070057, Exception.Message: Version string portion was too short or
    too long."
I don't see the "Data Access" service in services on either server.  I followed all of the setup prereqs in SCOM 2012 unleashed book, and also referenced this article for setup advice:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2013/01/16/opsmgr-2012-sp1-quickstart-deployment-guide.aspx
Everything seems to be working until I get to this point.
Thank you for any help you can provide,
    Dan

    Hi Tom,
    1. Did the setup complete successfully on the MS and Console server?
    >>>Yes, without issue
    2. You do not see the service "System Center Data Access Service"
    >>>I do indeed see it on the MS and Console server, it is set to Auto and running.  (I also tried rebooting this server and retried, no help)
    3. Is the Windows Firewall enabled?
    >>>It has symantec endpoint protection.  I disabled symantec completely on both servers and retried, no help.

  • SSL Cert for 2008 R2 Reporting Services that is installed on a Failover Cluster - server address mismatch?

    I utilized the idea from
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2778/how-to-add-reporting-services-to-an-existing-sql-server-clustered-instance/ to install 2008 R2 Reporting Services on a new Clustered SQL instance.  In short, create the new Clustered SQL instance on Node1,
installing Reporting Services with it.  Then on Node2, Add a Failover Cluster Node (without choosing Reporting Services); following that up with starting the SQL setup.exe with a cmd to bypass a check so that I can then install the Reporting Services
feature on Node2.  It points out using the SQL Cluster Network name for connecting to Reporting Services.
I verified upon failover that I could still access the Reports and ReportServer URLs.  However, when wanting to add an SSL certificate to the RS configuration, I run into the warning of "mismatched address - the security certificate presented by
this website was issued for a different website's address", where I can continue and get to the Reports or ReportManager URLs.
I played with different certs (internal CA created) and SANs and other things, but I still get this error with the cert.  The Reports URL, for example, is <a href="https:///Reports">https://<SQLClusterNetworkName>/Reports, and the
cert has a CN and Friendly Name of SQLClusterNetworkName (with SAN of DNS: SQLClusterNetworkName.<domain>), but the error still happens.
What am I missing to eliminate the mismatched address warning when using the SQLClusterNetworkName as the base of the URLs?

I got it working by using the FQDN as the common name on the SSL cert, with FQDN in RS URLs.

Symptom: When you install Reporting Service Point role on a Site System Server running SQL Server

This implies that ODP.NET does NOT need to be installed on a client. However, I cannot find OraOPs9.dll on a machine with Client Release 9.2 installed. Should OraOps?.dll automatically come with a Client installation of 9.2 or higher?
ODP.NET needs to be installed on the client. OraOps9.dll is part of ODP.NET, not the Oracle Client.
Also, if an application is built with the 10g ODP.NET, can it be run from a machine with OraOps9.dll?
If an application is built with 10g ODP.NET, it can be run with 9.2 ODP.NET as long as you do not use any 10g APIs. The new features in 10g ODP.NET are included in the doc and the ODP.NET FAQ for your reference.

  • How to create a mult-server server farm?

    Hello Community
Let's say you create your Sharepoint 2013 Server farm.
How do you create a Search and Application Server on a separate physical
server and how do you create an SQL Server on a Separate physical Server
and finally adding those Search and Application Server and SQL Server
to your Sharepoint 2013 Server farm?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

    Hi,
Once you are done with SharePoint installation on one server you are going to add further Application server or Web front end server as per your requirement and finally you will configure the service on your farm.
For setting up the multitire SharePoint farm first of all you need to install the below given  prerequisites on
    one server.
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
    Windows Management Framework 3.0 (CTP2)
Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Native Client
    Windows Identity Foundation (KB974405)
    Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime v1.0 SP1 (x64)
    Windows Server AppFabric
    Microsoft Identity Extensions
Microsoft Information Protection and Control Client
    Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0
Cumulative Update Package 1 for Microsoft AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server (KB2671763)
After installing the SQL server you Just run the SharePoint product and technologies configuration wizard and follow the steps
to add a sever to an existing farm.
Actually as per your question you need to set up a three-tier farm configuration consists of two front-end web
servers, an application server, and a database server. The deployment sequence and configurations that are described in this article are based on recommended best practices. While the farm configuration is not complex, it provides a fundamental infrastructure
to implement a SharePoint 2013 solution on similar — or more complex farms.
    In this article:
    Overview
    Prepare the farm servers
Install SharePoint 2013 on the farm servers
    Create and configure the farm
Add web servers to the farm
    Post-installation steps
