Installing Rosetta from a script

Hi,
I need to be able to install the rosetta component in Snow Leopard from a script file. We have a management tool that allows us to run scripts on our macbooks. We need to install a new piece of software across the company and this software requires rosetta to be installed. Some of the older macbooks are fine but the newer ones need to have it installed.
We can detect whether it's there or not but for love nor money I can't find out how to install it from the terminal or a script.
I've tried;
installer -pkg /path/to/Optional\ Installs.mpkg -target /
which says that it is installed but looking at it none of the components there have actually been installed.
There must be a way to tell the installer which features within the Optional Installs package need to be installed.
Any ideas?
Olly

Hello,
Did you ever figure out how to do this? I'm working on the same scenario. My next step was to copy the /usr/libexec/oah/ folder to another mac and figuring out how to add an entry to /Library/Receipts/InstallHistory.plist. Please let me know.
Thanks!

  • Installing Rosetta from Snow Leopard

    Mac Pro mid 2010
    Lion 10.7.5
Tried doing this without success.  Want to be able to use my FCS 6.
    Thanks.

Here are all the correct facts with regard to FCS2 (FCP6) and Lion/Mt. Lion:
FCP 6 is a Universal application that WILL run in Lion and Mt. Lion.
The problem is that there is a bug in the installer program that makes it fail in Lion or Mt. Lion.
    There are 4 solutions:
    1.  Use the partition/external hard drive method to boot from Snow Leopard (if your Mac will support this method) and "dual boot" into FCP 6
    2.  Install FCP 6 in Snow Leopard BEFORE you upgrade to Lion or Mt. Lion;
    3.  Use Pacifist to install FCP 6 in Lion or Mt. Lion; or
    4.  Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method (as linked above) to install FCP 6 into Lion or Mt. Lion; and be sure to note ARIC's comment on June 4, 2012 for complete installation instructions for all discs.
There were some initial indications in the early Lion era that installing Rosetta from a Snow Leopard Install DVD into Lion would ironically get around this bug and allow FCP 6 to be installed (giving incorrect support to the notion that the installer was PPC and installing Rosetta would allow the installer to function in Lion).
Subsequent problems from users who utilized this method have proven that this method is dangerous and should not to be followed.  There is one particular member of this forum that continues to propogate this method, unfortunately at the risk to those who follow his poor advice!

  • Installing rosetta from SL Disk does not work

    Hello All,
I have spent a good portion of the day trying to install Rosetta from my SL disk; using both the Optional install folder and also utilizing Pacifist software to extract from the SL disk; but without any luck.  Each time I install, my iMac says that the install was successful, HOWEVER, I cannot find it anywhere on my computer; neither in my app folder, using Spotlight, or checking for Rosetta in my App folder in the System Profiler.
    1. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, and...
    2. Help me install Rosetta?

    1. Expecting a system-level component to have an accessible UI. Rosetta mostly works behind the scenes and isn't something which can be interacted with directly. If you know exactly what to do, you can determine whether or not it's present, but it's not worth bothering to check if you've just installed it and aren't having any problems.
    2. See above.

  • Installing Duplexer from a Script

    Hi all,
I have close to 300 HP Printers of various types, many of which have Duplexer installed (Physically), but Duplexer is set to Not Installed on the Device Settings tab. I need to create a script that will flip that bit on all of the printers so I can set the Preferences to Duplex (Which I already have the script for) Does anyone have a script that will do this? Is it a WMI Property? Is it a Registry setting?
    Thanks

  • Installing Rosetta question

I recently suffered a hard-drive failure and had to re-install 10.6. Upon trying to run Office, I got the notice to install Rosetta. However, the automatic install option seems to hang while searching online so I attempted to install Rosetta from the OSX DVD. I stopped before hitting the OK button as I panicked that the install would wipe all my info. I know that it's possible to only select Rosetta as the install option but I'm still concerned about data loss.
Am I OK to just install Rosetta and maintain the integrity of my computer???

Installing Rosetta from the disc only adds it. No Snow Leopard installation mucks with your data or info.

  • I just downloaded and instaled firefox 4. Now, everytime I institute a command I get a po[p-up from Java script that tells me to uninstal set. I cannot go on untin I press ok and then I am good for one more command and it starts with the pop-up again.

I'm not even sure if this is an extension or plug-in and all I can tell you is what I have already stated. I can only make one command at a time and after each one I get a pop-up from Java script that says uninstal set. I must depress ok to move on, but only for one more command and it starts over again. This also happened when I tried to instal firefox 4 a couple months ago and I deleted the program and went back to an earlier version.

You have a Retina MacBook Pro, it runs OS X 10.7 or 10.8.
It won't run Snow Leopard (10.6) and Rosetta is only for Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC processor based programs when Mac's used to have those instead of the Intel processors they all have now.
So that software your installing is incredibly old, if you bought it, return it for a refund.
Also you don't need a anti-virus for OS X, Apple installed one for all OS X 10.6.8-10.8 users.
If you need anti-virus to clean the Windows files of their malware before passing it on, then the free ClamXav does the job.

  • Script to rebuild all installed packages from ABS

I realize pacbuilder is for that, but it doesn't seem to work properly for me. Skipping a lot of packages etc.
Anyway, I've made this very simple script to just rebuild every installed package from core/extra/community. Sorry for the localized echo output, but I think it's all very simple and straightforward to understand.
    Edit:
I've improved it a bit, now it should work flawlessly and remember what stuff it has to finish no matter when you ^C out of it. Also it installs all compiled packages, if you want to avoid that, remove -i switch from makepkg.

  • ITunes says it needs to install rosetta

All of the sudden, iTunes won't launch and Software Update says it needs to install Rosetta.  Never had to do that before.  Anyone know what's going on?  Could this be an issue created from the most recent update?

Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem.

  • Preflight Droplet asks to install Rosetta!???

    Hi,
Does anyone knows why Acrobat 9.3.4 Pro is asking me to install Rosetta on a Mac mini 2010 with Mac OS 10.6.4?
In Acrobat I created a new preflight profile and afterwards a droplet on my desktop for this profile.
The weird thing is that, as soon as I drop a pdf file on the icon, Mac OS asks me to install ‘Rosetta'.
Newest computer, newest OS and CS5. What is Rosetta doning here, I wonder?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Johny

You may want to consider FlightCheck v6.75 which can preflight PDF files and the native source files alike (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc, etc). Since it is a desktop app, there is no need to create a droplet or the likes. Just download the 30-day demo, drag-and-drop your PDF, .INDD, .AI, .PS, .JPG, etc documents onto the FlightCheck icon and get an easy to understand preflight report.
You will want to maybe select one of the many preset PDF Preflight Profiles, which we call Ground Control sets or edit one to suit your quality assurance needs.
The beauty of FlightCheck is you do not need Acrobat or any of the native applications open or even on your machine. It is a stand-alone application.
For the record, as Peter has reminded me in the past, I come from the Markzware stables, the makers of FlightCheck and many other Creative Suite conversion tools. Acrobat postflight feature can be great, but FlightCheck is a true preflight work-horse across publishing and printing file formats.
    Friendly Regards,

  • Installing nntpgrab from the AUR

    Hi guys
I hope you can help me. I tried to install nntpgrab from the AUR using pacaur. However, after some compiling process I get the following error:
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/-gtk-target’: Permission denied
    ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in package_nntpgrab-cli().

How to fix that? I noticed that the package is not maintained any more. Is there anything wrong with the install script?

The package have not been updated for years and needs some major work. I suggest you write a new PKGBUILD
Edit: Upstream seems to be pretty dead too

  • Stop OIM application from a script

Is there a way to shut down the OIM application server manually from a script, without going through the admin console?

    Yes you can.
I saw that when we install oim with weblogic 8.1 then it doesn't create Stop Script. We have to create such scripts manually. .If you ggogle then you'll find lots of threads for the same.

    Hello...
I am having the exact same problem this person was having, except that I wasn't able to repair permissions. When I attempt to do this, I get this message:
The underlying task reported failure on exit.
Does this mean that I have to do an Archive and Install? In which case, would you mind walking me through that process? <:)
I really have no idea why this is occurring, as well..if you could explain that to me, I'd be very grateful.

  • Install iWork09 from box and it still asks for serial number

    Hi all,
I think I have previously installed iWork and used trial version.  Recently, I bought a family pack boxed version of iWork.  On my MBA, it installed fine and works beautifully.  On my iMac, it installs fine as well except when I open any of the application, it says I either have to buy a serial number or I install from my DVD, which I have already done.  Just in case, I installed it from DVD again to see but I get the same results.  I can't use my iWork on my iMac.  Can you help?
    Thanks.

If you had made a search in this forum you would have found the answer many times. You have to thoroughly delete iWork. It isn't enough to delete the parts you see in the application folder.
    use Yvan Koenig's script:
              •          Go to http://www.box.com/s/00qnssoyeq2xvc22ra4k
              •          Choose public_YK > for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items
              •          Click on uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button
restart the computer for good measures and install from the disk again. Don't forget to do the updates too
