Installing Tomcat connector for Apache

I realize this is more of a Linux configuration issue but it does deal with Tomcat so I am hoping someone can help.
I am having some problems installing the tomcat connector for Apache web server on Linux (Red Hat enterprise).
I need to have both Apache (by which I mean Apache Web Server) and Tomcat running on this system and it is my understanding that one can use the tomcat connector as an Apache module to connect from Apache to Tomcat for jsp requests.
Okay so here is what has been done.
Tomcat is installed and running fine (on port 8080)
Apache is running fine.
I followed this guide http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/howto/quick.html
And I created all the config files etc but when it comes to finding the mysterious mod_jk.so file I am stuck. I went to the downloads area and end up in the following directory/page http://apache.mirrors.northco.net/tomcat/tomcat-connectors/jk/binaries/linux/jk-1.2.14/
I don't see a mod_jk.so file in there. (?!?) So... I poked around some more but I feel I am looking at the right directory so I downloaded the worker.so file and put that in my apache modules directory. I renamed it as mod_sk.so (now please bear in mind that I am not too dumb and I realize that renaming a file isn''t doing anything magical but due to lack of any documentation describing why there are two different files I took a guess and thought that maybe the different files are different threading setups or something (considering the other one is named prefork to me this seemed to be a logical conclusion based on the information given))
And of course it doesn't work. By which I mean the following happens if I run configtest for apache (if I try to start Apache same disaster)
# /sbin/service httpd configtest
Syntax error on line 3 of /etc/httpd/conf.d/tomcat_connector.conf:
Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/mod_jk.so into
server: /etc/httpd/modules/mod_jk.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directoryOkay... Except a file with that name (see above) IS in that directory. And it has the same permissions as the other modules which are loading.
(After moving to the modules directory)
# dir
libphp4.so mod_cache.so mod_imap.so mod_proxy_http.so
mod_access.so mod_cern_meta.so mod_include.so mod_proxy.so
mod_actions.so mod_cgi.so mod_info.so mod_python.so
mod_alias.so mod_dav_fs.so mod_jk.so mod_rewrite.so
[more stuff that loads here but edited for length]So I think something else has gone wrong here... namely that I have the wrong file or something.
Anyway I am a bit stuck at this point. Could someone point me in the right direction please because I am just going in circles at this point with the documentation not matching up to what files are available or explaining what those files in fact actually are.

I solved this issue by compiling the file from source. I got hold of another admin friend who told me that the version I had was for 64 bit. Now how I was supposed to discover this or where in fact a compiled version of this file is on the apache site I know not.
But it's working now.

  • Installing Tomcat Connector (mod_jk)

I just upgraded to Leopard (not the server version, but this seemed the most logical place to post this), and I'm trying to get everything working that was working under Tiger. I have always kept the most recent version of mod_jk installed so I could serve jsp applications through Apache, and I've never had much trouble building and installing it on the PPC or Intel platform. (Well, the installer always put it in the wrong directory, but that was easy to fix.)
So last night I downloaded the latest version (1.2.26), built it, installed it, modified http.config to load it and ran the syntax check. apachectl said:
    Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_jk.so into server:
dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_jk.so, 10): no suitable image found.
    Did find:
    /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_jk.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture
So I checked to see what the architecture of the file was. file said:
    mod_jk.so: Mach-O bundle i386
So what's wrong with that? I checked a few other modules, and here's what file said about one of them:
    mod_setenvif.so: Mach-O universal binary with 4 architectures
    mod_setenvif.so (for architecture ppc7400): Mach-O bundle ppc
    mod_setenvif.so (for architecture ppc64): Mach-O 64-bit bundle ppc64
    mod_setenvif.so (for architecture i386): Mach-O bundle i386
    mod_setenvif.so (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit bundle x86_64
So I take it it's looking for x86_64? But why wouldn't the default architecture be the right one? I'm building it on the machine where I'm going to be using it. Not only that, but when I specify ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs --with-arch-type x86_64 I get the same result.
Is there any way to build this thing, or can I get a binary somewhere?

I found this in the BUILDING.txt file in the unzipped distribution.
Build for both Apache 1.3 and 2.0
If you want to build mod_jk for Apache 1.3 and 2.0, you should :
use configure and indicate Apache 1.3 apxs location (--with-apxs)
    use make
copy the mod_jk binary to the apache modules location
make clean (to remove all previously compiled modules)
use configure and indicate Apache 2.0 apxs location,
    then make.
    ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs
    make
    cp ./apache-1.3/mod_jk.so /usr/lib/apache
    make clean
    ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs2
    make
    cp ./apache-2.0/mod_jk.so /usr/lib/apache2

  • Error installing OIM Connector for DB User Management

    Hi!
I'm a newbie in OIM and trying to set up a lab environment for user provisioning and reconciliation.
    I have installed: WebLogic 10.3.3; OIM 11.1.1.3; Oracle Database 11g 11.2.0.1.0
In order to configure the OIM connector for DB User Management, I am following the OIM Connector Guide for Database User Management (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E22999_01/doc.111/e28315/deploy.htm#CHDHAJCA) for the installation steps:
In the Step 2: Connector Installation the Import of Connector XML Files is failing. The error displayed is:
    DOBJ.XML_IMPORT_ERROR

I found these error messages from the STDOUT of the OIM Server:

Try to research into these tables OUG(List to define the administrators for each Resource Resource) , obj and ugp.
    Something like this:
    select obj.obj_name, oug.oug_write,oug.oug_delete,oug.oug_data_level,ugp.ugp_name from obj,oug,ugp where obj.obj_key=oug.obj_key and oug.ugp_key=ugp.ugp_key
PK_OUG is a unique key that control (oug.obj_key and oug.ugp_key) together into OUG table. So, if you already have this information that it's trying to insert you will see this error. Probably because of a previous installation. Check CIH table if it already have some information about this connector, probably someone already tried to install this before.
    I hope this helps,
    Thiago Leoncio.

  • Where to install website files for Apache

Apache newbie here, with a basic question - is there a standard or recommended directory that I should use for a website's files? I'm packaging WebGUI, and in the process getting my feet wet with Apache for the first time (well, it had to happen sometime, I suppose ). The WebGUI walkthrough suggests I create a new directory under / called /data, and use a subdir under that as DocumentRoot. This works, but I'm wondering is it regarded as OK to create random directories under / like that, or should I be using /home/httpd or something like that?

    Hi!
Linux's, or better, any UN*X's directory structure depends entirely on system's administrator (freedom of choice;) ). Noone forces you to have all binaries in /bin or /usr/bin. You can even follow some nasty examples like /Program Files/
There are however some recommendations (you may even consider them standards) of how should a UN*X compilat system's directory structure look like. It is nicely described at http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/linuxdir.html.
Therefore I would place my local web pages in /var/www (I do in fact, just not on my laptop from which I am writing right now:))
There is one custom, which is common on multiuser systems: If a user wants have his web pages on that server, he can simply create a directory in his home directory (the name of the directory is defined by sysadmin, but mostly it is '$HOME/public_html') and put all his webpages there. Those pages are then accessible via url like http://serverdomain.org/~username. This feature however requires some slight tweaking in Apache settings (not sure how much tweaking, since I do not use it, but it can be pretty simple, like uncommenting a line in httpd.conf:) )
       Hope this post is useful;)

If yes please give me a hint
    Have a nice day!

Thanks guys for the quick responses.
But I have tried both the options for putting the jar in Third Party and also by uploading using the OOTB utility UploadJar.sh.
But it is giving the same error.
I have tired rebouncing the server and also Purge cached, but no success.
Just to mention again, I have tried with all the last 3 postgres JDBC4 driver available on the site (u mentioned).
    So, any other clue?

  • Not able to properly install "Tools for Apache Cordova for Visual Studio 2013"

    Hi,
I am using visual studio 2013 ultimate running on a 64-bit windows 7 home premium.
When I tried to install the "Tools for Apache Cordova for Visual Studio 2013", the installation completed but showed the following error in the end. This is what the error says:
    "  Joyent Node.js
Invalid command line argument. Consult the Windows Installer SDK for detailed command line help.  "
I thought maybe windows phone SDK 8 is not installed on my pc.( as mentioned in the requirements here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-in/library/dn757054.aspx). I tried to install the SDK, by choosing modify from the control panel (as
mentioned in the same link above), but it didn't show "Windows Phone SDK" on the list. And Microsoft says that you cannot install the SDK v8.0 on windows 7. Please help me with this.

    OK...
    1)  So, how do I write JavaScript code? There is only one option when I select JavaScript form the "New Project" window and that says "Blank App (Apache Cordova)". when I try to create one it shows all these errors:
" We've detected issues with your system's environment configuration
Apple iTunes - software is missing from your computer.
WebSocket4Net - software is missing from you computer. You may also have to configure it after installation."
    2)  I don't have iTunes on my computer. So, Is there a way to do it without installing iTunes?
    3)  And I've already installed the "WebSocket4Net", using both the "vs2013_mda0.3" setup and manually. But nothing worked. So what to do about it.?

  • Caanot restart apache after installing mod_jk connector

    Hallo,
I have installed the mod_jk connector to use seperate apache and tomcat instances for my web ap. I followed the instructions here: http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2002/11/20/tomcat.html?page=2
After making changes to httpd.conf, I am unable to restart apache - the sevent viewer gives the following message:
    "The Apache2 service terminated with service-specific error 1. "
I think it has something to do with the addmodule lines i've added. Here is what I added to httpd.conf:
    AddModule mod_jk.c

    # JkLogFile C:/tomcat/Tomcat 5.5/logs/mod_jk.log

    # </location
    (all uncommented of course)
I hope someone out there can help me with this.

You have to run "make clean" and then make.
Probably the files could not be compiled because of errors in the first place.
Try to download the source for apache and compile it for the current platform, otherwise you could get wrong settings.

  • Apache Tomcat Connector

    Hello,
I have setup Solaris 10 OS on AMD64 and I am trying to build the JK connector for Apache2 with Tomcat5, but I am not having any success at all with neither the Solaris nor the GNU gcc compiler.
Did anyone compiled the JK connector on a i86 64-bit architecture? does anyone knows where I could find a compiled version of the jk_mod.so for AMD64 solaris or where I could get more information ?
    Much appreciated,
    Jeff

I'm also having trouble connecting the web server to a Tomcat server. I too downloaded the connector from Apache and built it using
    ./configure --with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs
because that's the only apxs on my disk, which I determined by running
    sudo find / -name apxs\*
After installing mod_jk.so in /usr/libexec/apache2, I added the following in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
    \\# Copied from http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/generic_howto/quick.html
    \# Load mod_jk module
    LoadModule jk_module libexec/apache2/mod_jk.so
    \# Where to find workers.properties
    JkWorkersFile /etc/apache2/workers.properties
\# Where to put jk shared memory
    JkShmFile /private/var/log/apache2/mod_jk.shm
\# Where to put jk logs
    JkLogFile /private/var/log/apache2/mod_jk.log
\# Set the jk log level [debug/error/info]
    JkLogLevel debug
\# Select the timestamp log format
    JkLogStampFormat "[%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y] "
\# Send everything for context /orgcharts to worker named worker1 (ajp13)
    JkMount /orgcharts/* worker1
    And my workers.properties file contains:
    \# Define 1 real worker using ajp13
    worker.list=worker1
    \# Set properties for worker1 (ajp13)
    worker.worker1.type=ajp13
    worker.worker1.host=localhost
    worker.worker1.port=8009
Now, when I attempt to start the web server, it doesn't come up, and it doesn't log anything, so I have no clue what's going on.

I have not found the source of the issue, but after trolling the internets for other people who had issues installing tomcat i did find a workaround.  step one was to manually install Tomcat from the ICM install disk by running the following command:
    \Apache-Tomcat-5.5.25.exe /D=C:\ICM\Tomcat
The tomcat install will run and will encounter an error about halfway through saying to check Security settings or permissions, Choose Ignore.
    Uninstall Tomcat
    Re-Boot
    Re-install Tomcat with the command %install CD Directory%\Apache-Tomcat-5.5.25.exe /D=C:\ICM\Tomcat
tomcat should install without any issues and you should see tomcat running as a service now
    Uninstall Tomcat
    Re-boot
Re-run ICM install and choose re-skilling tool
    Install should complete without issue.

  • Can't start Tomcat after installing Bea WorkShop for JSP

    Hi,
I have been using Eclipse SDK Version: 3.1.2 Build id: M20060118-1600 and Web Tools Project 1.0.2 and Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5 for about 2 months with no problems. But now I Can't start Tomcat after installing Bea WorkShop for JSP plug-in. I get "Server Tomcat v5.0 @ localhost failed to start". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I installed BEA Workshop for JSP Version: 3.1.0
Build id: 536. I only wanted to install the plug-in to my existng Eclipse 3.1 / WTP application. The only option that I saw was to download the entire FullWorkshopFreeInstall-536.zip, which is 192,496 KB. During the installation, there is a screen that you can specify to only install the plug-in - and I selected that option. Today, I chose to uninstall the BEA Workshop for JSP and then I was again able to start Tomcat server. I then did a complete install of BEA Workshop for JSP into a totally separate location. My original Eclipse installation still works fine, but my Workshop for JSP Version (which is now a completely new installation) has the same problem with Tomcat that I reported with the plug-in. I am using j2sdk1.4.2_08 and have tried both Tomcat 5.0 and Tomcat 5.5. I have the same problem with both Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • Can't install plural eyes connector for PP CC14

I just downloaded the newest version of pluraleyes and tried installing the connector through the Adobe Extension Manager. It gives me the following error:
"Failed to install the extension 'com.redgiant.pluraleyes35'. Please make sure the manifest.xml of this extension is valid and the Extension Manager recognizes at least one product which the extension supports."
Can anybody please help me out with this? I would really love to be able to figure this out soon because I'm using the 30day trial for pluraleyes and I don't want to waste it. Much appreciated!!

    Ok,
I went to uninstall and PP did NOT appear in the add remove program list. I guess because it never installed properly??
So, I installed MS cleaner and then installed Win CS4 clean and reinstalled Premiere. It installed just fine, but, won't boot up. I get the Premiere Pro purple box and then I get this error message:
Adobe Premiere Pro was unable to communicate with the process "ImporterProcessServer,"
I rebooted and still got that message.
I unistalled PP - this time it appeared in the Add/Remove list and reinstalled it. (didn't run the registry cleaner this time) and I'm getting the same error message.
What is going on? Any ideas??
    Thanks in advance,
    Jessica
