InStr search for comma finds period?

Hello,
I am working on a macro in Excel 2007 to find commas in a string.
This:
commaAt = (Len(inp) - InStr(1, strTmp, ",", vbTextCompare))
Returns the location of commas AND periods.
Is there a way to get InStr to find just commas?
I think this may be connected to the mixed use of commas and periods as decimal points.
Curiously, on the worksheet FIND works on only commas with A8 being the string to parse.
RIGHT(A8,(LEN(A8)FIND(",",A8,1)))
Thanks

Hello,
Your question answered my problem.  Yikes I was blind. And was seeing what I wanted in Len(inp).
That has to be: Len(strTmp)
inp = "AZ,00000.00,4,aaaaaaaaaaa,bbbbbbbbbbb,cccccccccccc,ddddddddddd,00003,X,X,X,X,X,00<cr><lf>"
I am trimming off comma fields from left to right in a for loop. And the first trim value is 3 which coincidentally matches ".00" the second pass trimmed the correct number of ascii but from the wrong starting point.
I am very sorry to have missed that and posted. I should have gone to bed earlier.
Thank you.

Every finder window you open has a search bar in the top right corner. If it is not showing, then go to View > Customize Toolbar and drag it into the window.

  • Searching for OR Finding Contacts other than Alpha by First/Last Name

Am I missing something? Or, is it not possible to FIND contacts by any means other than alpha on the first or last name field?
It's such an elementary function of a "PDA" that I failed to inquire about the ability to LOOK-UP information with some simple SEARCH tool or utility.
Even CALENDAR events...when did I schedule that appointment with Dr. Smith? FIND "Smith".
I know "the girl" worked for some pharmacy? SEARCH for "pharmacy".
Am I missing something? Where can I SEARCH for "HELP"?
    Thank you,
    Joe

I too am having the same issue. I have about 900 "company" clients. I do business with the company yet can't perform any 'search' in the iphone contacts for that company. I absolutely am shocked by this. spent 45 minutes on the phone with apple and they said i was the first person to ever bring this up.
I have to say that this is frustrating. Why can't I perform any search. Perhaps I'd like to visit a client that is within the same city i am visiting - i can't sort or search by anything except for the individual contact name.....crap. any thoughts (besides going in to outlook and putting the company name itself under the contact name - that would take forever)

  • DBMS_LOB.INSTR - Searching for a pattern

    Hi
    I have a program supporting several databases. F.ex SQL2000 and Oracle 8/9.
The field in question, text, might contain a lot of characters. In Oracle, it's a CLOB,
on SQL2000 it's a varchar. It is not possible for me to alter the database-structure in
any ways at this moment. The database-schema is locked.
My question is pretty simple, you have probably seen it before.
In SQL2000 I can use this query:
select count(*) from crm5.text where text like 'n%'.
    The result returned = 8.
The same on Oracle will be somewhat like:
    select count(*) from crm5.text where dbms_lob.instr( text, 'n') > 0
    The result returned = 29.
The databases has the same data.
It seems to me that the dbms_lob.instr
does a (case-sensitive) query like this:
select count(*) from crm5.text where text like '%n%
Is this the right assumption? How can I get the correct number
of rows and do the search case-insensitive at the same time not
killing the performance of the database? We use a pretty smart
little thing on "normal" LIKE. But how can we do this with the
    CLOB?
    Regards,
    Ivar

    Found the solution.
On Oracle 9, use LIKE as you want.
    On Oracle 8, use
    select count(*) from crm5.text
    where dbms_lob.instr( text, 'N') = 1
    or dbms_lob.instr( text, 'n') = 1.

  • How to search for 'period single space any letter' in find/change

Hi, i'd like to check my document to make sure that between all periods and first words of a sentence there are not single spaces but double spaces.  Is there a way to search for any instances of single spaces that appear after a period?

Firstly, when I said InDesign inflates the space I didn't mean it whacked in a great chunk of space. It just gives a little bit more air relative to the fit of the text around it. You may not always see any noticeable difference. But when I read a book I don't want to see obvious white spaces at the start of every sentence. As long as the full point and following capital letter register on my brain fast enough that I am reading a new sentence, that's good enough for me. I think it makes reading more fluid. If you want to see extra space at the start of a sentence, then it's probably best to carry on with your double spacebar - unless you want to try something more exotic like a fixed width space.
I didn't mean you to literally type <full point><space><any character> into the find. I was just trying to tell you what to input. Type the full point, hit the spacebar, and then use the options list to the right of the find field (shown as a @), select "Wildcards", then select "any character". What you should see in your find field is . ^?
You could then enter .  ^?      - that's two spaces. See why I spelled it out as <space>? -  into the change to field.

  • How do I erase history of file use in "search for" sidebar in finder window

I just upgraded to Leopard and noticed that the "search for" sidebar in the finder window reveals every file I've ever opened in the past. I know I can turn it off in the finder preferences but I prefer being able to erase the history. I can't find an option to erase my file use history in the system or finder preferences. What can I do? I'm a stickler for privacy and don't like to keep this info on my computer no matter how innocuous or inoffensive the files might be. (Please spare me the inevitable jokes about hiding dirty pictures or videos... It's not that.)
    Thanks

I am not sure there is any point because anyone can do a search in the finder for everything you have opened in the last whatever time period.

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast.  If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used.  The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID .  Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network.  A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default.  Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in.  HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you.  You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files.  Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

  • How do I exclude directories from Finder search results? I'm trying to find the biggest FILES on my computer and it keeps showing me "Macintosh HD" as the biggest, how can I search for files of type "NOT folder/directory"?

Basically I've lost 10GB of free space over the last few weeks so my plan was to search for files modified in the last 2 weeks in order to figure out which ones are big and where that space went.
So I open finder, go to "File > Find", and enter a search:
Modified > In the last 2 weeks
    All fine so far.
Problem is, it's showing whole directories as results. Which essentially means that when I order the list by size, Macintosh HD is at the top, followed by "Users", then "Applications", then one of my bigger movie files, then "Library", etc.
How can I do a search which will ignore folders? I want individual files. Knowing that Macintosh HD is the biggest item on my computer and was modified in the last 2 weeks is utterly useless to me.
Older versions of Finder in OS 9 had a feature where you could search for "files, whose type "IS NOT" folder", but OS X doesn't seem to have such a feature.
    Can anyone help?

How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...

  • Can I search for pdf and word documents at the same time in finder?

I often want to search for more than one file type at a time - for instance pdfs and word docs in a directory, or Jpgs, GIFs, PNGs etc.
Can I do this in the finder in one go (so I can save it as a folder I can then select when I want to)?
I tried typing OR between the 'tokens' it creates, but then it just searches for OR - so not as intelligent as one would think?!
Surely there must be a way to do something as simple as this?
    regards
    Rob

Forget the whole "tokens" business (I think that is a pretty useless "improvement" to constructing Spotlight searches). Hit command-F to bring up the search window, and set your first criteria, in the example I changed it from the default Kind to Created Date, to keep the number of results manageable. Now hold down the Option key and click on the "+" at the end of the criteria line, it will change to "..." and you get a new criteria line. From the dropdown menu choose "Any" if necessary (this will give you the Boolean OR), then enter what you want in the first sub-head. To get a second sub-head OR criteria click the "+" at the end of the Any line.
I don't generate many MS Word docs, so I just stopped in the example above after typing Microsoft, since that brought up all the MS anything I have from this year (a couple of Power Point thingies sent to me by friends).

  • Is there any way in Finder to search for files and display their path to make it easier to move a file type to one folder without generation duplicates

Trying to consolidate all media files (mp3, m4a) into one folder for iTuned. Each time to try to move files I end up with duplicates and copies. If I could see the path (folder) in finder I could only move groups. searching for all mp3 file finds all on the iMac regardless of location. I don't want to them one by one having checked the Get Info display.
    Any help, suggestions appreciated.

This puts the path in the title bar.
    http://osxdaily.com/2007/12/02/show-full-directory-path-in-finder-window-title-b ars/
I also have the path showing at the bottom of a finder window: View>Show Path Bar. This seems to show the path more competely
    Also, get FindAnyFile.
