Interactive portfolio

I'm trying to build an interactive portfolio for my
advertising and marketing website and I'm not much of an
ActionScript programmer, so I was wondering if anyone knew of a
tutorial out there that might help me. I have searched the
internet, far and wide, and I can't find what I'm looking for.
Here's how I'd like to set it up:
The page will have four sections: a subject menu (with
thumbnails); a scrolling thumbnail menu at the bottom of the page;
a large viewing area; and a text area.
The user will first select from the menu. The menu will be
visible at all times and will have entries like: logo, brochures,
advertising campaigns, etc. Clicking on a menu item will bring up
the appropriate set of thumbnails at the bottom of the page. The
user can then scroll through the thumbnails, pick the one they
want, click on it and it will appear in the large viewing area with
the appropriate text.
That's it. That's all I want to do. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Doug

What exactly are you trying to do? The folio builder panel is for Digital

  • Exporting a pdf in indesign CS5 interactive portfolio, the buttons dont work?

    interactive PDF using Indesign, Export problems
    im working on an interactive portfolio, its got 6 pages and four of them have buttons which scroll through alternative images which relate to that page. All very simple stuff. as far as im aware its all set up properly and in preview its working like a dream. As soon as i export > adobe pdf (interactive) > i tick buttons and media Include All  but when i open the finished pdf i wont let me use the buttons. they are acknowledged by the fact that when i hoover over them there is a tin black box that apears but the actual button its self wont work.
    if anyone knows how to export such a file so i can share with people as an interactive portfolio i would be most grateful. thanx

    Or, better than that, export the PDF from InDesign as PDF/X-4!
    By default, Acrobat and Reader use overprint preview when displaying PDF/X-4 files. Plus you have the benefit of full color management and not having transparency ruined by premature flattening.
    One other note. Other than for the fairly common practice of overprinting black text over colors to avoid halo effects due to registration, one should be exceptionally careful in using overprint. Trapping, the other good, justifiable use for overprint is really best performed by the RIP. Most modern RIPs provide for automatic trapping. Overprint should absolutely not be used as a “poor man's transparency,” especially in conjuction with spot colors. With the advent of real transparency in the Adobe imaging model and hence in Illustrator, InDesign, and PDF, there is no good reason to use overprint hacks anymore to simulate transparency.

  • Dynamic Header help in PDF Portfolio

    Need some help please, to create and load a Dynamic Header when creating a PDF Portfolio in LiveCycle ES2.  Have input parameter of a [name] and an [image file] to place in the Header.  Process flowing out of Assembler (PDF Generator).  Currently other PDFs being inserted within the Portfolio, and Navigation parameter being received ok, and setting up custom navigation.  Any help w/ creating Dynamic Header is very much appreciated.

    By "Dynamic Header" do you mean the PDF cover page, or the interactive portfolio navigator?
    If its the cover page then it should be a fairly easy thing to do.  You can create a form (XDP or PDF template) with a field for the name and one for the image.  Then you would use something like LC Forms or Form Data Integration to merge the data (image and name) with the template.
    The one thing you would have to do is to put the image and data into an XML format before you merge it with the form. That means you will need to convert the image to a base64 encoded format.  Fortunately there is a built in function for doing the conversion in a SetValue operation (its under Document Object Functions).
    If you are talking about the Navigator (portfolio shell) then it gets a bit more tricky.  The navigator is actually a Flex application and not a PDF.  You'll have to code a new one using Flash Builder, then import the resulting .nav file into your LiveCycle application. Merging the data with it is not something I've done before, but it should be possible (the LiveCycle Interactive Statement Solution Accelerator does something similar).
    If it is new navigator you need, check out some of the following links:

  • Interactive PDF file using InDesign CS5

    I've created an interactive portfolio within InDesign. Within the InDesign layout I've created a button "Testimonial" when the user clicks it reveals a reference letter. (The reference letter is also a button.) Then the viewer needs to click on a "close" button on the reference letter to go back to the portfolio view.
    It's set up and when I view it within InDesign using the Preview area. It works.
    When I export as a Interactive PDF and view in Acrobat. The "close" button is not there. So I'm unable to return to the portfolio view.
    Any suggestions?

    Thank you... what was wrong. Didn't I do everything correct and have the close button on top in the stacking order... was this a software bug?
    I'm not sure what that other poster was doing. Duplexing won't exist until the drivers get 64 bit clean. I've been there and done that.

  • Indesign Portfolio SWF Question

    I followed this tutorial:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/indesignpost/2011/01/creating-an-interactive-portfolio-with-indesig n/
    When I open my swf file the first page has the button I created and is awesome, then I click on the button and it shows the first work that it should......BUT for some reason that I have no idea why; the buttons below the image are gone.
    The buttons are not invisible, they are completely missing.
    After reading the tutorial (or just being a pro in indesign), what did I do wrong and how can I fix this problem?

    Jeffrey, your comments are certainly dead on for CS4 but CS5 has far better capabilities. I'm no expert on this but much of the interactivity in the ID file will survive an export to FLA to be opened in Flash Professional CS5.

  • How can i send my SWF for others (without Flash) to open?

    I have just finished making my interactive portfolio in Flash and after opening it in the SWF file it works perfectly. I now want to be able to E-Mail it to potential employers to see, but if they don't have Flash then they won't be able to open it with an SWF file. I tried setting the default program to open it with as Internet Explorer but have had all sorts of problems. Is there any easy way to be able to send them the file, and have them open it without having to sift through loads of unblock buttons or have the videos not play (two recent problem).
    Any help would be appreciated, many thanks
    Flasher87

    Your best bet is to place the swf on a web page on a server and simply send links to the web page.  Having an online portfolio is often a must have for certain professions, such as web design and similar trades.
    Emailing an swf file may hit a security wall on some servers.  A potential employer may not appreciate the extra work they might have to follow thru with to deal with a file you send them if they do not have the software for viewing it on hand.
    If you do email the swf file to anyone, then they need the Flash Player to be able to play the file.  So you should probably include a link for them to the Adobe site where they can download a player that supports your file.

  • Open pdf in browser: inexplicable issue

    Hi, so I've been using flash for a little while, mainly self-taught.  The following is an AS2 question, because I'm still wading my way through AS3, being completely unfamiliar with programming.
    I'm trying to do something that i've done in the past in most versions of flash between MX and CS3, but now I'm doing it with cs5.5 which I haven't done before.
    I have a fairly simple interactive portfolio which will be burned onto CD.
    In one page, I have a button which aims to link to a PDF that's in the same directory as the flash movie, in the user's default browser, using
    pdfbutton.onRelease = function (){
               getURL("a_document.pdf", "_blank");
    which usually works, just opening up the browser, or a tab in the browser, and then doing whatever the user's browser does with pdfs, whether that's open them, prompt to open with or save or whatever.
    However, now what's happening is that the browser opens (and i've tried it in chrome and internet explorer), and appears to attempt to open a URL called 'a_document.pdf' or 'http://a_document.pdf' in chrome and explorer respectively, which of course isn't a real url, and so it gives me a 'page not found'.  Has something changed in the way either CS5 or most modern browsers open documents in this manner that would mean doing things like that?  If so, how would I go about getting it to open off the local location?

    What server?  Sorry, that sounds snarky, I know you're trying to help me.  But, swf is on local drive, pdf is on local drive. Opens great online, which makes sense, considering getURL is designed to open urls, but tries to parse filename as a url, which I feel like it didn't used to do.
    Anyhow, after further internetting, I think my best bet is to figure out what fscommand is and how to use it.

  • Problem with linking. Need help.

    I am working in acorbat 7 pro and trying to make an interactive portfolio to put on a disc and hand out. Problem is when I set my links to open a file it reads it as being on my computer. So opening the disc on a new compute, won't work.
    I tried attaching the files to the pdf and going that route but the main file then became over 1gb.
    What am I doing wrong? And is there a way to get it so it will read the links when I put the files on the disc?

    create a folder and place all items include linked items and pictures in the folder. Make sure all links work.
    Quit acrobat.
    Next go to  System Finder and if you computer has a CD/DVD Drive go to File menu and then Create new Burn folder.
    Now be careful here, open the folder you just created with you acrobat content.  click on one item so that your inside the folder.
    Now do Command (Apple/cloverleaf) Key - A, to select all items, drop into the burn folder (be sure you gave the burn folder a name that's used to name the CD/DVC) you created. Now allow the DVD/CD be created. IF you leave the burn folder on the computer you can make multiple Copies just click on it then click burn and insert DVD.
    If I am not mistaken you have to click to open the item on Apple. despite rumors about apple . Apple is fanatic about security. One of the things they absolutely ban inserting a disk and starting up right away. Unlike PC's that will automatically start exe files as soon as the CD/DVD are loaded.

  • How do I embed a multi page pdf on one page in indesign?

    I'm building an interactive portfolio to put on an ipad to take to an interview. I've got 6 title pages and i'm trying to create sub-pages and embed multiple page pdfs into them so the user can turn the pdf pages within the portfolio page...if that makes any sense.
    I'm getting nowhere with it and its driving me mental
    Should add im using the cs6 digital publishing update with things like digital overlay etc.

    You're butting your head against a wall. You can't do that in an interactive PDF.

  • Can I disable scrolling on a PDF using Acrobat X?

    Can I disable the user from scrolling through the PDF?

    Not possible.

  • Need to know the simplest workflow for Flash CS5 to iPad

    Hi There,
    Can you please tell me the simplest workflow for Flash CS5 to iPad.
    I want to put my company's flashCS5 made interactive portfolio(with FLV video showreel) into ipad to show my clients.
    What is the simplest way?? I am not familier with codes or programming.
    Can you help me guys??
    -Sahid
    I am using PC.

    It doesn't matter whether you use a MAC or a PC to create the content - the iPad simply will not accept it. It was designed with exactly that purpose in mind. That's why I advised you to get rid of it. Stick to PC and you'll have zero problems.
    Just a hint - a Sony Vaio (the 11 " models with carbon fiber casing) look even more prosperous, are the same weight, and since they run Windows OS will not have the typical Apple limitatations

  • Xml images not displaying

    I'm having an issue displaying images from an xml file. It's
    a portfolio site, so basically it displays text and an image. All
    the text is working just fine, but for some reason the image (and
    the whole app) won't display when the image code is added.
    Here's my code:
    <mx:XML id=" portfolioXML"
    source="portfolio.xml" />
    <mx:XMLListCollection id="interActXMLList"
    source="{ portfolioXML.interactive.label}" />
    <mx:List id="interActList"
    dataProvider="{interActXMLList}"
    width="253" height="103" />
    <mx:Number
    id="selectedWorkIndex">{interActList.selectedIndex}</mx:Number>
    <mx:Text
    id="titleInput"
    text="{ portfolioXML.interactive[selectedWorkIndex].title}"
    width="446" />
    <mx:Text
    id="description"
    text="{

    <!-- this causes the whole thing to crash
    <mx:Image
    source="{
    portfolioXML.interactive[selectedWorkIndex].image}" />
    -->
    xml looks like this:
    <portfolio>
    <interactive>
    <label>The Item</label>
    <title>The Item Title</title>
    <shortDesc>The item is totally
    awesome.</shortDesc>
    <image>
    http://www.example.com/images/interactive/item.png</image>
    </interactive>
    </portfolio>
    The url is correct (it works when I hard code it). Anyone
    know why the images aren't working??

    What happens if you use a text object to show the image path
    above? Does
    that still crash the app?
    Also, try replacing the colon (:) in the XML with its url
    encoded version

  • Is it possible to view website on screen without being in a browser? I want the website to take up the whole screen.

    Hi,
    I was wanting to use my DW website as an interactive
    portfolio for an interview. What I want is to have my website on my
    laptop screen so that the interviewer and I could browse through my
    website on screen without being connected to the internet, or
    having to preview it through a browser, but instead so that it
    takes up the whole screen, is this possible?
    My interview is tomorrow (eek) so a prompt response would be
    much appreciated,
    Thanks
    Beth H

    If it needs a server, install apache on your laptop, its free
    and fairly
    easy to setup and install.
    As for running full screen, open internet explorer and press
    F11 to put it
    in kiosk mode, it will show the website full screen. (press
    F11 to exit
    kiosk mode again)

  • F4V video will autoplay in FLVPlayback component but won't appear w/autoplay "false"

    I'm designing a Flash Form Application (using screens) for an interactive portfolio. One screen, labeled multimedia (video), has an FLVPlayback component that appears on "stage" once visitors click the "multimedia" text button. The screen appears fine and the video actually begins to play with the parameter to autoplay toggled to "true." However, as this is just one of many screens, I only want it to play when the screen loads or when the visitor clicks the play button.  And please don't assume anything.  I'm an amature with components.
    I'm sure it's something small that I've missed. Has anyone else run into this or know why this happens or what I may've missed? Am grateful for any helpful assistance anyone offers.
    Thanks.
