Interactive Report - Include Non-selected Column in Row Text Search

Hi,
We have an interactive report that contains many columns. NAME VARCHAR2(30), TYPE VARCHAR2(30) etc and DESCRIPTION VARCHAR2(4000).
Normally the DECRIPTION column would not be shown (avalilable for dispaly via 'Select Columns' but not selected), however we need the default Row Text Search (ie direct entry into the search field instead of creating a column filter) to search the DESCRIPTION field wether it is selected for display or not.
This will allow the user to enter a term that may be contained in the DESCRIPTION to find records without trying to display a 4000 character field in the report - which just looks horrible.
We are using ApEx 4.1.1.
Thanks,
Martin Figg

Hi Ray,
As I expected this has got us very close. We went with the code:
select
facility_id,
facility_name,
'<span title="' || facility_desc|| '">'||substr(facility_desc,0,50)||decode(sign(length( facility_desc)-50),1,' (More...)',NULL)||'</span>' facility_desc,
equipment_id,
equipment_name,
'<span title="' || equipment_desc|| '">'||substr(equipment_desc,0,50)||decode(sign(length( equipment_desc)-50),1,' (More...)',NULL)||'</span>' equipment_desc,
from
rf_full_item_list_vwhich works well. The only issue is that when you download to csv you get the html tags etc as well. Put I am a lot closer to a solution than we were.
Thanks again.

  • Interactive Report - Icon View - Dynamic Columns per Rows ?

    Hi all,
    We use the icon view functionnality in Interactive Report.
    Is there a way to display the 'columns per row' attribute as an application item and set it dynamical via PL/SQL ?
    Any suggestions?

  • Apex 3.1, Interactive Report Row Text Search, image bitmap as TEXT?

    I think this IR thing is powerful which could save me lots of time in development.
    One question: does the row text search(default: all columns) treat image column as regular text(string)? I did the following search on:
    SAMPLE APPLICATION-->Products, I put 300 in the search column( for $300 list-price search), the search produces 3 lines( should only have 2). the 3rd line's list price is $1999, I looked it in SQL*PLUS and saw its image bitmap (long string) includes a "300" inside, so I believe the "default all columns search" treat image as regular string.
    How can I avoid the image bitmap search included in IR? This bitmap strings are very long for each image and can EASILY match searching conditions for something like PRODOUCT DESCRIPTION, PRODUCT PRICE for our products data( about 25000)? thanks
    sean

    Sean / Russell,
    Thanks for reporting this, it's certainly a bug.
    By the way, the search is performed in SQL, on whatever column values are being displayed (run the page in debug mode to see the full SQL). So in the case of the sample application, it is not matching the image bitmap, but the image size, which is selected in the SQL. The bug is that the full search should not include columns which have filtering disabled or one of the special image format masks. We'll try to fix this for an upcoming patch.
    Thanks,

  • Interactive Report Downloads only showing Column Headings

    I have an Interactive Report that is selecting more than 100 columns. I set the defulat to only show a few of the columns (the rest are dedaulted to not show). When I try the download option (pdf, rtf etc.) , it only shows the column headers (no data). The download works when you originally create the Report region with the SQL statement. It seems to break as soon as you do the 'Save Report' - 'As default Report Settings'. Anybody seen this before? It is a bug?

    Hi,
    You are almost right place. You need click icon before 100th column name, order to go screen where you can edit column attributes.
    In that screen right top is buttons (Cancle, Apply, < and >)

  • Searching for Data in the Report for a non-selected column in display.

    Hello,
    I have an interactive report as given below:
    select user, dept_name, sal, description, title from hr;
    Now, in the report display options I remove the title and description from the display as you know title and description are 2000 characters each.
    If I show then it takes the whole page to display one record and with this option I can search any text in the Title or Description columns.
    Now, I have hidden these two columns and when I search I do not see any records.
    Can any one tell me how to achieve this behaviour.
    What I am looking is, I do not show the column 'TITLE' or 'DESCRIPTION' and user show be able to search for any important data inside these columns.
    Please let me know how can we do this.
    Please point me to an already published article or solution or any help on this type.
    Appreciate your help on this.
    thanks

    As far as I can see this will not work. You could use a trick and make a query like this:
    SELECT USER, dept_name, sal,
              apex_item.hidden (10, mgrdescription || title)
           || '<img src="#IMAGE_PREFIX#some_nice_icon.gif">' title_description
      FROM hrThis would not display the title and description but an image and it would give you a possibility to filter on those.

  • Can interactive report have 2 "special" columns?

    I have an interactive report on which I have placed a column for redirecting to a detail form. But I want to, also, put a column that will contain a button which will perform an action (update 2 columns in db). This way if the user wants to close the entry on the db they can click this button without having to go to the detail screen. So, they can go to the detail screen and close the entry or they can just click on the button to close the entry. I would love to have it be done with a right-mouse click menu but I suspect that is too much to ask which is why I thought the button might be ok.

    I took a different approach but this might work for you...
    On the interactive report, defined column1 as 'CheckBox' using this syntax:
    Select APEX_ITEM.CHECKBOX(1,c.s_id) "s_id_checkbox", column2, column3 etc. from my table - Note: APEX_item.CHECKBOX can create the checkbox as 1st item on the IR report
    once the item is defined, set the item header in the 'Report Attributes' tab to: <input type="checkbox" onclick="$f_CheckFirstColumn(this)" title="Select"/> and column type: Standard Report column - This will give the each row of the IR check/uncheck facility for the user. Make sure when you run the IR in developer mode, to 'Select' the newly defined 'checkbox' column in the 'Actions' menu and Save the report as 'Public' report. Also, move the newly-defined 'check-box' column as 1st column to display on the IR.
    Introduce a button Item on the IR Page, that will submit a page process. Write your PLSQL procedure or DML calls in this page process, for performing your database operation on your list of 'checked items'
    Page Process upon button submit: Code Example only. You may need to implement as per your reqs.DECLARE
    v_request VARCHAR2(100) := v('REQUEST');
    v_count pls_integer;
    v_selected_item_id pls_integer;
    BEGIN
    :P1_PROCESS_MSG := NULL; --This should be set the page processes 'success' and 'error' message properties to &P1_PROCESS_MSG. (Define new item P1_PROCESS_MSG on your page of IR)
    IF v_request = 'YOUR_BUTTONS_REQUEST_NAME' THEN
    --//Process each user selection via the PLSQL page process api call
    FOR i in 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F01.COUNT LOOP
    v_count := v_count+1;
    BEGIN
    v_selected_item_id := APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02(i);
    --// CALL_YOUR_PLSQL_PACKAGE or Custom DML BY PASSING THE USER SELECTED RECORD_ID TO PERFORM YOUR DATABASE DML and by using the 'v_selected_item_id' as a parameter or DML condition to perform your database DML action.
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
    :P1_PROCESS_MSG := SQLERRM;
    END;
    END LOOP;
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION HANDLER..
    :P1_PROCESS_MSG := SQLERRM;
    END;
    Usage:
    User runs the IR, checks on the records he/she wants to do the 'close' then clicks on the new button that does the 'multiple-close' for the records of choice. He/she can select just-1-row and do the same dml operation by clicking on a button that you defined on this IR Report's page.
    Also, if the above approach is not viable, you can create a 'f?p...' column link on your IR's main query to submit the page upon user-click. But, I've seen the above approach lot more liked by users.

  • Interactive Report Attributes: Missing a column?

    This is for Application Express 3.2.1.00.12
    I'm working on a report with the columns pulled in a SQL statement in the Region Definition section of the Interactive Report Attributes screen. We want to alter the column names so they are more user friendly, so on the Report Attributes tab, I'm looking for the column name we wish to alter, but it is not showing up. Now, in the final report, the column is visible with the header from the name of the column from the database, so the system is aware of the column and can display it, but for some reason we can't see it in the Report Attributes tab.
    Why would a column be invisible or inaccessible in the Report Attributes tab? There are 100 columns displayed in the Report Attributes: Column Attributes section. Is that the reason I'm missing some columns; 100 is a hard column limit on that page?
    Thanks in advance for all help you can provide.

  • Interactive Report - Display New/Changed Columns

    Hi,
    when I add or change a column in Interactive Reports, APEX doesn't show me the new column automatically.
    Everytime the user log in, he has to go on "Actions" and "Select Columns" manually, otherwise the new/changed column won't be displayed.
    How can I do that the column is displayed automatically after login?
    I am using APEX 4.0.2.00.07.
    Regards,
    Marc

    Either you, as a Developer, can save the report as Public.
    Or an aithorized user can save the report as a General/Shared Report.
    Or the user can save the report as a Private one.
    Pick the columns you/user wants to see. Then [Action -> Save]

  • Is it possible to sort an interactive report with a default column ?

    Hi,
    I have a nice request used with an interactive report.
    select "ID",
    "DATE_CREATION",
    "SERVICE",
    "RESPONSABLE",
    "NATURE_CONTRAT",
    "SOCIETE",
    "DATE_DEBUT",
    "DATE_FIN",
    "DELAI_RENOUVELLEMENT"
    from "#OWNER#"."CONTRATS_MAINTENANCE"
    order by DATE_FIN descUnfortunately, the interactive report does not displays using the order into the SLQ query.
    I tried to de select the "sort" option of each other columns into the Column attributes Section, but without any improvement. If I remove the order statement from the SQL query, nothing changes in the order.
    Do you have an idea on how to display the lines in the order of the sql query ?
    Thank you for your knid answers !
    Chrstian

    Christian,
    This can be a little tricky at first. Try this:
    1. Remove the order by clause from the query.
    2. Log out of the application, not the builder, just the application.
    3. Log back in and try using the options in the interactive report to sort the information.
    Does it work? If so:
    4. Get the order the way you would like it as the default. Note: you get more sort options if you use the Action Menu (grind wheel) and selecting Sort over just clicking the column headers.
    5. Save the report by selecting the Save Report option from the Action Menu. If you see a drop down, save the report as the "default".
    6. Log out of the application again and back in.
    Does it work?

  • How to get the current selected column and row

    Hi,
    A difficult one, how do i know which column (and row would also be nice) of a JTable is selected?
    e.g.
    I have a JButton which is called "Edit" when i select a cell in the JTable and click the button "Edit" a new window must be visible as a form where the user can edit the a part of a row.
    Then the column which was selected in the JTable must be given (so i need to know current column) and then i want the TextField (the one needed to be edited) be active with requestFocus(). So it would be
    pricetextfield.requestFocus();
    Problem now is that i have to click every time in the window the JTextField which was selected in the JTable. I have chosen for this way of editing because my application is multi-user and it would be too difficult for me when everybody did editing directly (catch signals, reload data, etc.).
    My question is how do I know the current column and the current row in a JTable?

    I'm not sure what your mean by the "current" row or column, but the following utility methods return
    which row and column have focus within the JTable.
    public static int getFocusRow(JTable table) {
        return table.getSelectionModel().getLeadSelectionIndex();
    public static int getFocusColumn(JTable table) {
        return table.getColumnModel().getSelectionModel().getLeadSelectionIndex();
    }

  • Filter Interactive Report by a Hidden Column

    Hi, I would like to know if you can filter an IR by a hidden column?

    Edward_MX wrote:
    Hi, I would like to know if you can filter an IR by a hidden column?Ok, this works (for want of a better solution). I ended up adding a field to the report called HIDDEN_DETAILS. Then just hide that column with javascript/css using a live scope dynamic action on region refresh and on page load.
    This javascript does the trick:
    $('th#HIDDEN_DETAILS').css('display', 'none');
    $('td[headers="HIDDEN_DETAILS"]').css('display', 'none');Then just ensure you save that column to your default IR report and any others where the users need this filter available.

  • Problem Ordering/Limiting LOV by non-SELECTed column

    When I try to create a dynamic LOV using the following SQL query:
    select reportname d, pageno r
    from dms_occurances
    order by occurances desc
    limit 2
    I get the following error:
    LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query.
    This makes absolutely no sense to me, as the query appears valid. What am I doing wrong here? I'm trying to create a LOV for the two most popular report pages viewed in the application.

    Hi
    I am not sure that LIMIT would work with Oracle... you may need to use ROWNUM instead:
    select *
    from
    (select reportname d, pageno r
    from dms_occurances
    order by occurances desc
    where rownum <= 2
    Regarding the message... I think it is a "standard" message, which is displayed even if the problem is not related to the columns number/names. :o/
