Interesting observation when doing concurrent updates using JE

Hi,
I had some interesting results when i tested JE against C version.
In JE, when 2 thread are updating same record on a page; the performance is same as the core version; as expected.
But when 2 threads are updating 2 different records on the same page; the performance of JE was almost still the same as the previous case. I expected major performance upgrade due to record-level locking(so concurrent updates to different records on same page should have been very fast); but it was not so.
Can anyone explain why?
I am using DB Env with transactions and locking ON. Record size is very small.

In JE, when 2 thread are updating same record on a pageJE is NOT a page based system, so I'm not sure what you mean here.
Are you getting Lock conflicts on either system?
What * performance* are you measuring?
You haven't provided much detail about what you are trying to accomplish.

If you update using iTunes, the full iOS is downloaded. If you update directly on your phone, this is called a "Delta" update, & only the changes to the iOS are downloaded. That's why you see the difference you see.

When doing an updates for apps on my iphone I noticed that iTunes

When doing an updates for apps on my iphone I noticed that iTunes & app displayed somebody else’s email. It wasn’t my email.
I log in to apple.com and change my password but iTunes& app store on my phone displayed the same strange email address.
I went to settings/ iTunes &App Store and it shows my email.
Question what’s happed and how to fix it?

How and when does contacts update on my synced iPhone?

If I add new/update a contact in Contacts on my macbook air when does Phone/Contacts update on my synced iPhone 4S? I use iCloud and only one Apple ID.

iCloud changes taking over 2 hours is definitely not standard. Even two minutes would be a very long time. By "immediately", I mean less than two seconds!
I cannot imagine why your changes would take so long to sync.
One thing to try might be this:
Make the changes on your MacBook Air. Use Safari on the MacBook Air to sign in to http://www.icloud.com and see if you notice the changes immediately (less than two seconds later). Perhaps that might help localize the problem.

When does Software Update download in the background?

I work at a school with about 150 Macs. About 50 of them are new imacs with Leopard installed. The default setting is to have software updates download in the background. We have turned that off as 50 machines downloading a 100 meg file at the same time could cause some traffic jams, correct? We download the updates once and install using ARD. My question is, if we forget to turn one off, when does it download? As soon as it is connected to the internet? We have our computers turning on in the morning at 8 and shutting of at 6 pm. When would the software update automatically download in the background? Thanks in advance.

I have always noticed that when I boot my machine, software update checks and if anything is available it will download. I have it set to check daily, and I shut my machine down nightly.
Also it tells you the last time it checked in the preferences.
Software Update > Preferences
That should tell you your answer for sure.

When trying to update using help in LR from "Help" menue a dialogue box appears saying not possible as it does not have a programme associated with it

Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

How can I do a clean install after doing an update using a volume purchase license?

My question is this: We purchased 20 licenses of Lion through the Volume Purchase program. 2 of the users installed it first doing an upgrade - now they have decided they want to do a clean install. How can they do a clean install - I can't give them the installer cd we created because I have been informed by Apple Sales that it will use another license from our quantity of 20 - but they offered no other solution.
We would rather not waste another license just to do a clean install.

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
This method relies on the Internet Recovery system. This is the standard procedure when you don't have an installer or Lion came pre-installed.

How do I save my data when an iOS update using iTunes has an error

My daughter was updating iOS 8.1.2 on her iPhone 5s (same phone as mine) using iTunes and it interrupted saying there was an error in the download. It instructs her to restore her settings but claims she will lose all her data this way. Is there any way to abort the download and save her data??? The phone is frozen and she is leaving it that way until we can find someone to address this tomorrow but we would appreciate help tonight. Very stressful.

Is her phone backed up to iCloud or iTunes?

Try to reset the phone by pressing down the home button and sleep / wake button till the Apple logo is seen - this does not affect data on the phone

When does an app uses my data package

when downloading an app, how do i know if it is using my data pakcage when i run the app? for example, i have an alarm clock app does it use my data package every time i set an alarm? will it tell me in the description of the app, and if so what will the description say?

With common sense mostly.
An alarm clock app does not require internet address to function. A weather app requires internet access to download weather data for a selected location.
Reading the description for an app should provide adequate info to make a determination if the app requires internet access to function, but it probably won't include - REQUIRES INTERNET ACCESS.

In a 10.2 "datawarehouse" schema I see OBIEE queries of the form :

Hi Hemant,
use of WITH can be disabled in the OBIEE RPD Connection pool. Its enabled by default to allow the performance benefit you would see when using aggregated result sets. I personally think the OBIEE server is simply not advanced enough to determine when it doesn't need to use it (ie when selecting distinct dimension member values in dashboard prompts).
Just my 2c. Hopefully some of the experianced users on here can expand a little more for you. Id be interested to know as well.

How to avoide duplicacy when doing Full Update from Datasource to Infocube

Hi,
I am loading the data from 0HR_PA_OS_1 datasource to infocube 0PAOS_C01 infocube.Implementing the standard Business content.
The Plan is to load the data Monthly Once.
If by mistake, if the data is loaded more than once in a month the duplicates will happen in the infocube.I need to avoid this situation.
I have 2 ways to avoid.But am looking for some effective ways in which it handles the upload effectively.
1)Giving the Option of Overlapping request by means of process chain.
2) Give the selections for the calmonth at the infopackage selections tab.
The drawback of the 1st method is that its just like deleting the number of records existing and loading a new request.
Say for eg in the month of June i have loaded the data which is around 1000 records.
If am going to load the data for the month of July which is around 10,000 records, then with the 1st methos what i have mentioned i need to delate the previous request containing 1000 records and in effect doing a full update which includes 10,000 records of july + 1000 records of june.
I don't want to do this since as the months go by the number of records gets increased in a single request.
regarding the 2nd method am not quite sure how much it will be effective.
Please let me know any possible ways other than this.

The problem with the 1st method is that as the day goes by the number of records in a single request increases which in turn will take quite a long time to get load and sometimes fails.
Is there any other way to handle the situation.

help? everytime i get an update i click to install and restart my laptop..it goes to a gray update screen..and nothing in the top bar is accessible..i have to turn my laptop off manually and restart..

When does Itunes update Doctor Who?

The new episode, the Rebel Flesh, was premiered yesterday. It's not in my season pass, and I feel kind of cheated. Is this normal? Do I have to wait a week for new episodes?

Same here! I bought the season pass, because I don't have cable. This is the only way I can watch the show. I have been getting up early on Sunday mornings to download the latest episode, and it's always been available. It is now 1 in the afternoon and the episode still is not listed in iTunes, and I haven't gotten any email saying a new download is available. I WANT MY DOCTOR WHO!!
Has anyone contacted tech support yet? They're usually pretty good.
