Interesting Siri/iOS 5 issue

I've found an interesting glitch with Siri, and I was wondering if anyone had a workaround.
Siri will only dial numbers that have a +1 or similar international code in front of them. This poses a problem, as in contacts, 5555555555 and +1 (555) 555 - 5555 are thought of as two DIFFERENT numbers, for some reason. In other words, if I were to send a text to someone, I would get a response back from a number like 5555555555. However, when I ask Siri to dial this person, it replies that it can't call them. Why would that be? Does anyone have a workaround?

According to this forum: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2175165/all, it seems that Siri is expecting a 7-8 digit phone numbers excluding the country code and area code, so adding an extra "0" digit or two at the back of the phone number may be able to fix your problem. The phone number should still connect correctly. Try that, it works for me in Indonesia where some phone numbers are still 6 digits.

Very interesting and quizzical issue in JNI COding.

HI All,
i've been facing a really frustrating, interesting and mindwrenching issue in my native code. Here is a background.
1. I was given a thirdparty ACtiveX OCX file that needed to be called through JAva.
2. I wrote a C++ JNI wrapper to call the methods of the activex object.
3. I first initialize the object, set the relevant parameters (sent from java) and then call the method I need.
4. For every record, I need to perform step 3. NOw, I am ryuning batch loads. THE code works fine for 9500 records. BUt, once the record count reaches 9885, I get a pop-up error from the activeX OCX control. I've not coded that pop-up. It comes out of the blue.
I initially thought that it could be a memory issue, but even after doubling my VM Memory allocation, I get the error. Its not a data issue, because the reocrd that causes the issue, if I run the code just for that single record, it works fine.
Below is the implemetnation of the C++ code. LEt me know if I'm doign somethign wrong or if someone has seen something like this happen before. WHAt is baffling is that it works smoothly for less records. When the pop up appears, no exception is caught on the native side also.!!!
Does java set aside some memory specfic for native libs and that is exhausted after 9885?
I'm running on windows, so is it possible to trace the internal malloc and release within the dLL?
ANy thoughts and ideas will help. I've been struggling for about three days now. ALso, do you know of a good C++ forum that i could post this question?

Well you have now demonstrated conclusively that it has nothing to do with JNI.
It is either a bug with that component and/or you are using it incorrectly. Solutions to either of those would come from the source of that component, which would be somewhere besides here.
If it was a bug then you might find a way around it by doing one of the following
1. Try variations of use (options, parameters, whatever.)
2. Determine if you can solve your problem by only processing 5000 entries at a time (where 5000 chosen just to be significantly lower than the limit you have already found.) If that works then you can solve the problem by using a restartable executable that wraps the component.

Hey Siri privacy issue

When you ask "Hey Siri, what is my phone number" when the phone is locked, Siri will pull up all your phone information. This is a privacy issue.

Based on the quality of his post, I think he could have figured that out.
Considering how easily one can reset passwords with SMS codes, which would appear as notifications, it certainly is a privacy issue.
Notjarj1 is clearly making his contribution to the improvement of iOS. I don't know what you're trying to do.

Siri iOS in Austria

When i Update ios 5.1.1. on iOS 6 siri would better in Austria , its will have more functions
BUT
i have reade siri in Germany would have more functions as in Autria !?
In autria the restaurant search and the Movie search is not supported ?!
Why ?

Why were not all functions in Austria supported ?
Is it true that the 3D cards are supported only in the U.S. ?

I'm having this same problem, and so is my girlfriend on her iPhone, and my cousin on his. We all have iPhone 4S's. Our iPhone 5S's are being delivered today, so I will report back if Siri seems to work any better.
In addition to getting the "I'm really sorry, try again later" or a delay of >10 seconds even when it works, I'm having another strange problem.
Requests/commands I used to make in iOS 6 are resulting in nonsense responses. For example, asking for directions, or who played in a movie, or where a certain business is, often results in responses such as:
"Iron Man 3 is playing at a theater not far from you." or some other movie show times response.
"The Dodgers are playing tonight, and the starting lineup is..." or some other nonsense sports scores/lineups response.
Or, just a generic web search. For example, I say a message, it asks me if I want to send it, and then I say "yes please send it" and then it shows a web search for "yes please send it"!!! What the heck??
I used to use Siri all the time in iOS 6, and while it wasn't perfect, it worked about 80% of the time. It was very delightful and useful. Now, I find myself cursing Siri's name and wanting to throw my phone out of the window.
This all happened literally the day we upated to iOS 7. I don't think it's a server issue (unless iOS 7 re-routes Siri requests to different servers than it did before). This was clearly triggered by the iOS 7 update.
I am really hoping for a fix. It's pretty lousy that the day Siri becomes a non-beta product, it becomes essentially unusable. I would really love to get this functionailty back, as it is one of the main reasons I still love iPhones. =(

IOS issue 4005 error Iphone 5 HELP!!

I have had my phone a while and its been working great. I was using the phone in IOS7 and again no issues. I have updated to IOS 8 and now it keeps telling me to connect to Itunes and when I do I get an error message with code 4005.
I took the phone to an apple guru and the respose was an absolute joke. They are trying to tell me that (even tho the phone worked perfectly before the update) the IOS update has detected a hardware fault and will not restart. They are then saying i need to pay them £200 to get a new Iphone 5!!!!! Sorry Apple send an update which they recommend you do and then it renders your phone useless, then I have to shell out £200 to get a new phone!!!!
Can anyone help me with this error message and how to fix it cause Apple and their staff have been useless!! Dont think i will be staying with Apple come updgrade time. Total Joke.

thanks for the suggestions, i tried the ideas you suggested but i dont even get a camera showing for the rear camera, i also noticed the torchlight no longer works. i did all the steps but no luck.
So I took my camera to the genius bar this weekend as well as walking through various steps with the apple guys in ohio support over the net.
With the guys at the genius bar, after i insisted that it must be software as the rear camera stopped working only after the softwre update, they continued to assure me it was hardware and talked me into letting them replace the camera, they then took it to the back and tried fixing a camera and 30 minutes later came out and said the rear camera is no longer being detected and wanted me to replace the motherboard for yet more money. im glad they didnt charge me for the new camera though as it still didnt work.
anyway the motherboard idea i rejected as it was just 2 months out of warranty and had only stopped working the day after the release of 7.0.2, so im going to wait until the next few releases to see what happens, as i dont believe for a second its hardware. i expected a stock answer from apple and its exactly what i got even after my explanation of how it was working the day before the release. not overly impressed with the whole process.
i wanted to back down to 7.0.1 to confirm the camera still works but they said no chance so i cant even see if it still works ouside 7.0.2. anyway will update if i get any further progress.

Cropping pictures in iOS issue

Hello,
I would like to know if somebody else experience the following issue:
After cropping a photo using the native iOS photo application, the images are being sent as "original" size either by email, dropbox, etc.. I also connected my iPhone via USB, browse the picture folders and noticed that the pictures still in original size. In simple words, cropping does not work as expected.
On the iPhone itself, I can see the images perfectly cropped, but is when I want to "export" it or copy it somewhere else that I have this problem.
Any help?
P.S: I tried also on my iPad2 and the results were the same.

When you connected your iPhone via USB, did you import them into the latest Aperture or iPhoto? They will show the edits, Preview won't.

Siri calender issue

I am using iPhone 4S with German localisation.
I have a problem with Siri when I ask Siri to tell me my appointments today or tomorrow or on any other day.
Siri's answer is (translation): "I'm sorry there is something wrong there. can you please try it again". I know that the same question is working well on other iPhone 4S.
I am using an Exchange and iCloud calendar as well as an subscribed calender.
Has anyone a solution for this issue?

Siri recognises my question and shows this correct on the screen, following by the comment "Searching in your calendar" and then the answer " I'm sorry, there is something wrong there, can you please try again" (original wording in German "Tut mir leid, irgendetwas stimmt da nicht. Kannst du es bitte noch einmal versuchen".
I assume that there may be a reason in the combination of different calendars, but I have already deactivated my exchange-calendar, but without success. I have also deteted my 2nd calendar app "miCal", also without success.

Siri: iOS 5.1 - Different Voice?

Recently i upgraded my iphone iOS to 5.1 beta.
I have noticed that the English (US) voice has changed.
I have compared it to iphones with iOS 5.0 and 5.01. Also let other iphone users give there opinion if i am right or wrong, they all agreed.
What is different: The way she speaks, it sounds like a voice speaking in a tin-can. Also the slightly arrogant intonation (is variation of pitch) is just plain gone!
Did the pod-people take over Siri?
Did anyone notice?

All OS X is really buggy - mouse lag, bluetooth dropouts, FCP X beachballs - iOS issues with iTunes = CRAP

I have had so many issues of late with both OS X Mavericks and iOS 8, that I am looking to change. Bluetooth dropouts that infuriate me despite swapping to brand new batteries, cleaning terminals, adding alfoil to hold the batteries more snuggly, etc; to FCP X constantly beach-balling (and I have 32GB RAM running with OS X running from an SSD); to itunes refusing to play any of my content on my new iPhone 6+. I have erased the phone twice and reloaded content after setting it up as a "new phone".
Is this April, and I have missed something?
Come on Apple, you have become an absolute JOKE. iCloud not working, iOS 8 not working, Bluetooth dropouts, I can't verify my new iPhone with iCloud Keychain for some unknown reason (wants me to reset and retry all the time).
If I wanted this cr@p, I would have stayed with W7....

SDK 16 using new AOT on iOS issues: unresponsive on return from CameraRoll, list skins confused

I am having issues with the "-useLegacyAOT no" (now default) and iOS apps. Under SDK 15 using "-useLegacyAOT yes" no issues. With SDK 16 the app has issues with many things, for example datagrid/list skins don't work - if you manually skin using setRendererStyle, it seems ALL the skin states are using the Selected skins, and the upSkin state uses the selectedUpSkin skin as far as I can make out (in tests this seems to be the case). Another is the app becomes unresponsive to touch on returning from cameraRoll, camera to take a picture or video to record a video - my app is full screen, when it returns from one of these, it is no longer full screen (the top info bar is visible), and I am using stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE when returning from these calls, which worked under the legacy AOT. Since the app is unresponsive, the only option is to reboot the iphone and restart the app - not really an option.

Just catching up with testing using the latest SDK 17 (115) and finding the following: With SDK 16/17 on iOS the app has issues with datagrid/list skins - if you manually skin using setRendererStyle, it seems ALL the skin states are using the Selected skins, and the upSkin state uses the selectedUpSkin skin as far as I can make out (in tests this seems to be the case).
I am also noticing that sometimes on return from the camera, cameraroll, and video camera, the app will sometimes hang - not always. I am continuing to test. The hang actually closes the app quickly.

IOS Issues

After some limited success with getting my app on iOS, I have hit a roadblock. At first, I was publishing my app and it was working great. All of a sudden after fixing some issues, it no longer works. I reverted back the changes but no success. It works in desktop and on Android just great. Here is what I am seeing
works (kind of)
- If I use low res iphone size it works (but looks terrible)
- If I use high res iphone or ipad with CPU, it also works but looks terrible and is poor performance (also the native extension alert does not work)
doesn't work
- If GPU is on, there are just some wierd shapes on the screen (but mostly black)
What doesnt work was actually at one point working great with great performance (including the native extension). The remote debugging shows no errors. Hopefully this is something someone has seen and an easy fix but it is driving me crazy.

CameraUI + iOS issues

We are having some issues with the CameraUI for an app we are devloping for iOS.
We are currently using AIR SDK 3.6
1) When invoking the CameraUI and using Stage3D, Starling or any other framework that takes advantage of the GPU in iOS we loose the context. I guess this is an unavoidable problem and the only solution is to handle the context loss (in the case of Starling is easy), but the visual result is not ideal, the delay between the CameraUI interface finishing and the app restoring the context (All Textures etc), makes it look like a bug. Also I always though that was impossible to loose the context in iOS, is this affirmation correct?
2) When in the CameraUI interface if the user clicks the device "HOME" button, the app goes to the background but when the user comes back to the app, the CameraUI interface appears with the shooter graphics closed. Clicking the Camera button (to shoot) does nothing, in fact freezes the app completelly, and clicking cancel and invoking the CameraUI again makes the shooter animation to play twice... This kind of behaviour doesnt happen in the native Camera app., when the user comes back from the background the shooter animation opens again normally.
Any thoughs?

IOS Issues w/ Restoring a Backup

So, I was switching two iPhone 4's.... one iPhone had been upgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and I made a backup one one computer through iTunes. The other iPhone was still on 6.1.1 and I made a backup . I didn't think it would be an issue...
When I switched the phone numbers succesfully through Verizon, I began restoring the iPhones with the backups. The iPhone on iOS 6.1.1 asked me to upgrade I believe... somehow iOS 6.1.2 got downloaded before the backup was able to be restored.
So... The backup made with 6.1.2 worked beautifully, no issues, but the backup made with 6.1.1 is not working. It says "iTunes cannot restore the iPhone _____ because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored."
So if I can see this correctly: A backup made through iOS 6.1.1 cannot be restored to an iPhone with iOS 6.1.2? If indeed correct, what the heck can I do to restore it somehow? Is there a way?

Okay, I was mistaken. iOS 6.1.1 was only for the iPhone 4S so I suppose I had 6.1.

Interesting Infopath 2007 Issue

Hey guys,I know it's been forever since we last spoke, and the spice stopped flowing for bit. Lost my job, had a rough little bit, but I'm now back in the IT Trenches and going strong.That being said, I've run across an interesting issue that I have. A template was created in Microsoft InfoPath 2010. Now, in my new company, we have both 2007 and 2010 versions of Office (Don't ask me why, it hurts me a lot). That being said, my InfoPath 2007 users are unable to open this template without having .net Framework functionality. When I go into the wizard to add said functionality, the wizard just cancels out and closes. No error, nothing in the error logs, it just comes up with 'Setup Wizard has been canceled' and that is it.I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling office, .net framework, and java (as suggested by another tech), and still...

check the SharePoint logs. If necessary, crank up the logging levels for InfoPath.

Most of the code is in stage's "composition ready".
It uses a instafeedjs to embed instagram (which is working stable and is easy to implement) http://instafeedjs.com/

Not always legal, though if you need cyrillics (which is a pain as adobe webfonts have only three or four cyrillic fonts) it is a solution.
I would most likely embed wordpress to load some more external content anytime soon as i did it on another project, though i dont know how to do it from inside of edge and i would have to edit the files manually. (i would appreciate any links to tutorials)
Concerning the stability of the edge websites:
embedding of google maps (both old and new API) causes ios iphone/ipad safari and chrome to crash (ios6, ios7).
perhaps the nature of it is in huge iframes i am using. any ideas?

I have questions on making advanced preloaders with percentage bar. (i have seen zaxist's thread) but is there any walkthrough on embedding any javascript preloader like these:

Also, current preloader option available in edge replaces the white screen before loading composition, but everything that happens in composition ready is seen by website visitor and looks odd. Shall i use creationcomplete or anything else instead?
