Interface with SQL backend (foreign schema)?
I'm looking for a Radius or LDAP solution using (foreign schema) SQL storage as backend.
I do have a large user database (that must stay as-is, I only have read-only sql access) that resides on an Oracle SQL server. I know the schema and how the passwords are salted and hashed, but on the gateway I can only use Radius or LDAP as authentication protocols. This is purely for authentication, not authorization (i.e. no group memberships need to be resolved) or accounting.
Is this possible with either ISE or ACS? I know that ACS may use Oracle, but afaik only for accounting or use it as its own underlying database (which is not what I want as the users already exist in a given schema).
Hi All
Do we need to download a separate DB Adapter for Connecting to SQL Server 2005.
I have created a BPEL process using the DB Adapter provided in JDev 10.1.3.1.0
The process deploys successfully but is erroring out at point it is trying to fetch the data from SQL Server.
Error:

Hi,
I want to get data from SQL server on demand from SAP server and run a report in SAP.
Can anyone help me how to get data from SQL server?
Thanks,
Ashok.Ashok,
I am not sure how it is done for SQL server, but here is a thread that discussed about a similar requirement with a Access database. Take a look.

Azure remote App with Azure SQL Backend
Hi, If I had an application which utilised a SQL backend could I host the front end in Azure remote app and the backend on an Azure SQL database or would I need to use IAAS to provide the backend?
Many thanks
JamesHi James,
If the application is designed to be compatible with Azure SQL Database then yes, you can use Azure RemoteApp for the frontend and Azure SQL Database for the backend. If the application is not compatible with Azure SQL Database then you would
need to use SQL Server running in an IaaS VM, or SQL Server running in an on-premises VM. The IaaS VM or SQL Database should be in the same Azure region as the RemoteApp collection in order to minimize latency.
For example, say you have an internally-developed application that uses SQL Server 2012 as its backend database. Before you would be able to use Azure SQL Database you would first need to migrate the database to Azure SQL Database and make any changes
necessary to the application and/or database for compatibility. The SQL Database Migration Wizard is helpful for this process.

CF 11: Configuration a datasources to MS SQL Backend with encryption enforced by SQL Server
Hello List;
I have the following problem: Configuration a datasources to MS SQL Backend with option encryption enforced (by SQL Server).
I goggled in the internet for the configuration of the datasource and find multiple articles/advices:
Configuration a datasource type other with jtds.jdbc.Driver and manual configuration of the connection string:
1. Downloading the driver and copy to the cfusion/lib directory: Done, the driver was recognized by coldfusion after a restart of the service.
2. Copying the ntlmauth.dll to the bin directory of jre/bin: Done
3. Configuration of the jdbc URL: jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://xxxx.xxx.xxx.net:1433/db: Works, I don’t get a connection timeout
4. User and PW: Works: I don’T get a login failure.
5. Advanced settings: Connection String: Maybe here is something wrong: EncryptionMethod=SSL; TrustStore=Path\sqlstore.jks; TrustStorePassword=xxx; ValidateServerCertificate=true; HostNameInCertificate=xxx.xxx.xxx.net;
Error Message (Coldfusion logs/stack trace): I/O Error: DB server closed connection. SQLException while attempting to connect: java.sql.SQLException: I/O Error: DB server closed connection..
Has anybody experiences with this topic/can give me advices/send me screenshots.
frankHi Stephen;
we tried: add EncryptionMethod=SSL; ValidateServerCertificate=false; to the connection string;
And it doesn't work.. Are you sure, that you have enabled encryption enforced in your SQL-Server Settings.
Oherwise the connection works, but the Connection is not encrypted:
Coldfusion lies!
You can controll this by veryfining the open connections on the sqlserver with the query:
SELECT net_transport, protocol_type, encrypt_option ,auth_scheme, program_name FROM sys.dm_exec_connections AS c JOIN sys.dm_exec_sessions AS s ON c.session_id = s.session_id cross apply sys.dm_exec_sql_text(most_recent_sql_handle) AS d
There you can see the jtds Connectionand the (programname) and the encryt_option (must be true).

Issue with the upadted database Schema in ODI 11g ?
Hi ,
I am new to ODI .. and i am using ODI 11g .
the problem which i am facing is below stated :
I have an existing interface with both source and target tables its working fine . when there is change in the column in the source and the target table i do the reversed enginnner to get the new colums in the source nad the target schema .
I tried to retain the existing mapping of source and traget by deleting the source schema and replacing it with the newly updated schema in the source colum in the interface .
and drag and drop the the newly updated schema In the target colum in this way i was able to retain the existing mapping ,and did the mapping for the new columns in both .
The problem is that it is running succesful and data for the earlier existing mapping are moving from source to target but not for the newly mapped column .
please help me out in sorting out this issue
the knowlede modules that i am using it are as follows
For LKM i am using LKM SQL to SQL
For CKM - CKM SQL
FOR IKM -IKM SQL Incremental UpdateThanks for the suggestion .i am working with Interface . i implemented that and got the colums without deleting anything ,but when i am mapping the newly upadted colums i am getting an error while executing the Interface .
ODI-1228: Task TARGET_1 (Control) fails on the target connection odipoc.

Oracle and Sql Server Physical Schema
Hi Forumer,
I am new to the ODI, and trying to use it for few of the POCs.
I know that the ODI supports mulitple types of technologies like Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc. quite well.
My requirements are something like this:
I have two same application database instances, one is on Oracle and the other is on the MS SQL Server. If I have a table say XYZ in Oracle, I have the same table the MS SQL Server also (Same structure column names, data domain, etc.). In other words both of them logically the same.
I have a third instance of Oracle acting as the target for both of the above mentioned sources.
Is it possible to have the target populated from these instances using only one interface? (Since logically they mean the same and the interface design would be also the same).
So what I want to achieve is essentially like this:
Say if I run the Interface in context 1 then the interface would populate the data into the target Oracle table from the source Oracle instance table.
And if I run the Interface in context 2 then the interface would populate the data into the target Oracle table from the source MS SQL Server instance table.
I know such a thing is possible if the both of the source instances are in the same technologies like Oracle, but my requirements are for the Heterogenous sources.
Please share your ideas about it.
ThanksThere is no problem for what you ask,
you can change your source depending of your context and it works with same technologies Source or heterogenous Technologies.
Once you have define your connexion (physical and logical Schémas for the both technologies) you have to define your bridge between logical schemas.
In the Topology module by clicking on your first logical Schema, Oracle in your exemple, you can define for another context the use of another Schema.
You will define Oracle in Context one and MS SQL SERVER for Context2.
When you have done this you have tocreate yôur interface with Oracle Datastore and when ODI will see an Oracle Datastore on Context 2 it will transform it in MS SQL SERVER. -
Database design to support parameterised interface with MS Excel
Hi, I am a novice user of SQL Server and would like some advice on how to solve a problem I have. (I hope I have chosen the correct forum to post this question)
I have created a SQL Server 2012 database that comprises approx 10 base tables, with a further 40+ views that either summarise the base table data in various ways, or build upon other views to create more complex data sets (upto 4 levels of view).
I then use EXCEL to create a dashboard that has multiple pivot table data connections to the various views.
The users can then use standard excel features - slicers etc to interrogate the various metrics.
The underlying database holds a single days worth of information, but I would like to extend this to cover multiple days worth of data, with the excel spreadsheet having a cell that defines the date for which information is to
be retrieved.(The underlying data tables would need to be extended to have a date field)
I can see how the excel connection string can be modified to filter the results such that a column value matches the date field,
but how can this date value be passed down through all the views to ensure that information from base tables is restricted for the specied date, rather than the final results set being passed back to excel - I would rather not have the server resolve the views
for the complete data set.
I considered parameterisation of views, but I dont believe views support parameters, I also considered stored procedures, but I dont believe that stored procedures allow result sets to be used as pseudo tables.
What other options do I have, or have I failed to grasp the way SQL server creates its execution plans and simply having the filter at the top level will ensure the result set is minimised at the lower level? (I dont really want the time taken for the dashboard
refresh to increase - it currently takes approx 45 seconds following SQL Server Engine Tuning Advisor recommendations)
As an example of 3 of the views,
Table A has a row per system event (30,000+ per day), each event having an identity, a TYPE eg Arrival or Departure, with a time of event, and a planned time for the event (a specified identity will have a sequence of Arrival and Departure events)
View A compares seperate rows to determine how long between the Arrival and Departure events for an identity
View B compares seperate rows to determine how long between planned Arrival and Departure events for an identity
View C uses View A and view B to provide the variance between actual and planned
Excel dashboard has graphs showing information retrieved from Views A, B and C. The dashboard is only likely to need to query a single days worth of information.
Thanks for your time.You are posting in the database design forum but it seems to me that you have 2 separate but highly dependent issues - neither of which is really database design related at this point. Rather you have an user interface issue and an database programmability
issue. Those I cannot really address since much of that discussion requires knowledge of your users, how they interface with the database, what they use the data for, etc. In addition, it seems that Excel is the primary interface for your users
- so it may be that you should post your question to an excel forum.
However, I do have some comments. First, views based on views is generally a bad approach. Absent the intention of indexing (i.e., materializing) the views, the db engine does nothing different for a view than it does for any ad-hoc query.
Unfortunately, the additional layering of logic can impede the effectiveness of the optimizer. The more complex your views become and the deeper the layering, the greater the chance that you befuddle the optimizer.
I would rather not have the server resolve the views for the complete data set
I don't understand the above statement but it scares me. IMO, you DO want the server to do as much work as possible since it is closest to the data and has (or should have) the resources to access and manipulate the data and generate the desired
results. You DON'T want to move all the raw data involved in a query over the network and into the client machine's storage (memory or disk) and then attempt to compute the desired values.
I considered parameterisation of views, but I dont believe views support parameters, I also considered stored procedures, but I dont believe that stored procedures allow result sets to be used as pseudo tables.
Correct on the first point, though there is such a thing as a TVF which is similar in effect. Before you go down that path, let's address the second statement. I don't understand that last bit about "used as pseudo tables" but that sounds more
like an Excel issue (or maybe an assumption). You can execute a stored procedure and use/access the resultset of this procedure in Excel, so I'm not certain what your concern is. User simplicity perhaps? Maybe just a terminology issue? Stored
procedures are something I would highly encourage for a number of reasons. Since you refer to pivoting specifically, I'll point out that sql server natively supports that function (though perhaps not in the same way/degree Excel does). It
is rather complex tsql - and this is one reason to advocate for stored procedures. Separate the structure of the raw data from the user.
(I dont really want the time taken for the dashboard refresh to increase - it currently takes approx 45 seconds following SQL Server Engine Tuning Advisor recommendations)
DTA has its limitations. What it doesn't do is evaluate the "model" - which is where you might have more significant issues. Tuning your queries and indexing your tables will only go so far to compensate for a poorly designed schema (not that
yours is - just a generalization). I did want to point out that your refresh process involves many factors - the time to generate a resultset in the server (including plan compilation, loading the data from disk, etc.), transmitting that data over the
network, receiving and storing the resultset in the client application, manipulating the resultset into the desired form/format), and then updating the display. Given that, you need to know how much time is spent in each part of that process - no sense
wasting time optimizing the smallest time consumer.
So now to your sample table - Table A. First, I'll give you my opinion of a flawed approach. Your table records separate facts about an entity as multiple rows. Such an approach is generally a schema issue for a number of reasons.
It requires that you outer join in some fashion to get all the information about one thing into a single row - that is why you have a view to compare rows and generate a time interval between arrival and departure. I'll take this a step further and assume
that your schema/code likely has an assumption built into it - specifically that a "thing" will have no more than 2 rows and that there will only be one row with type "arrival" and one row with type "departure". Violate that assumption and things begin to
fall apart. If you have control over this schema, then I suggest you consider changing it. Store all the facts about a single entity in a single row. Given the frequency that I see this pattern, I'll guess that you
cannot. So let's move on.
30 thousand rows is tiny, so your current volume is negligible. You still need to optimize your tables based on usage, so you need to address that first. How is the data populated currently? Is it done once as a batch? Is it
done throughout the day - and in what fashion (inserts vs updates vs deletes)? You only store one day of data - so how do you accomplish that specifically? Do you purge all data overnight and re-populate? What indexes
have you defined? Do all tables have a clustered index or are some (most?) of them heaps? OTOH, I'm going to guess that the database is at most a minimal issue now and that most of your concerns are better addressed at the user interface
and how it accesses your database. Perhaps now is a good time to step back and reconsider your approach to providing information to the users. Perhaps there is a better solution - but that requires an understanding of your users, the skillset of
everyone involved, what you have to work with, etc. Maybe just some advanced excel training? I can't really say and it might be a better question for a different forum.
One last comment - "identity" has a special meaning in sql server (and most database engines I'm guessing). So when you refer to identity, do you refer to an identity column or the logical identity (i.e., natural key) for the "thing" that Table A is
attempting to model? -
DI Server with SQL Server 2008
Hello.
In the company where I work we develop an application that uses B1WS.
In the development environment had the following characteristics:
SAP Business One 2007 SP01, PL 09
SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
Windows XP Professional SP 3
SAP Business One Web Services 1.0
At the time we applied to the deploying the SAP Business One version 8.8, but I had a serious problem. The test environment has the following characteristics:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition
SAP Busines One 8.8 * PL 10
Windows Server 2008
The problem is that when trying to connect to the DI Server generates the following messages:
The TAO NT Naming Service has stopped. (WithOut DBUser and DBPassword)
Unable to access SBO-Common database Login (With DBUser and DBPassword)
I tested the connection directly to the DI Server disponbile by example in the SDK and it generates the same error. For the SAP interface is connected correctly.
DI Server allows connect with SQL Server 2008?

Edited by: Andres Naranjo on May 14, 2010 3:58 PMHad the same error
'The TAO NT Naming Service has stopped.'
Was using the external IP address for the LicenceServer - which is on the same server as SAP DIserver and B1WS.
I changed to using localhost:30000 and that solved the issue.
I suspect if I had used the internal IP it would have worked as well (ie the one you get from ipconfig) but as it works I'm not going to test that.

Vb6,adodb with sql server 2008
hi for i am new to vb6 with sql server 2008. I have managed to create database named : Tuscan77 in project folder with all the necessary tables with primary and foreign keys in tables. I have done the same project in vb6 with adodb with ms access and i have
finished it. But now based on my boss orders i have to connect vb6 with adodb with sql server 2008.
Now below is my code in mdi parent form in vb6 which i used to connect to database in access.:
Dim i As Integer
Dim AccessConnect As String
Dim dBOOL As Boolean
Dim dMstr As String
If (Left(App.Path, 1) = "\") Then
dMstr = Dir(App.Path & "tuscanDB.mdb")
Else
dMstr = Dir(App.Path & "\tuscanDB.mdb")
End If
dBOOL = IIf(dMstr = "", False, True)
If (dBOOL) Then
AccessConnect = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" & _
"Dbq=tuscanDB.mdb;" & _
"DefaultDir=" & App.Path & ";" & _
"Uid=Admin;Pwd=;"
If (adoDatabase.State <> 0) Then
adoDatabase.Close
End If
adoDatabase.ConnectionString = AccessConnect
adoDatabase.Open
Else
Dim mPath As String
CommonDialog1.CancelError = True
CommonDialog1.Flags = cdlOFNHideReadOnly + cdlOFNPathMustExist + cdlOFNFileMustExist
' Set filters
CommonDialog1.Filter = "All Files (*.*)|*.*|RTF (*.rtf)|*.rtf|Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt"
' Display the Save dialog box
CommonDialog1.FileName = ""
CommonDialog1.ShowOpen
dMstr = Dir(CommonDialog1.FileName)
mPath = Left(CommonDialog1.FileName, InStr(mPath, dMstr) - 2)
If (CommonDialog1.CancelError = False) Then
AccessConnect = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" & _
"Dbq=" & dMstr & ";" & _
"DefaultDir=" & mPath & ";" & _
"Uid=Admin;Pwd=;"
' Connection Object Methods
adoDatabase.ConnectionString = AccessConnect
adoDatabase.Open
End If
End If
where adoDatabase is name of my connection in vb6 with adodb with ms access.
Now how i connect vb6,adodb with sql server 2008?
Now my sql server 2008 details:
Server type: Database Engine
Server name: NPD-4\SQLEXPRESS
Authentication: Windows authentication
User name: NPD-4\TUSCANO
password:(it is left blank or not necessary)
Database name: Tuscan77
How to i connect my Database named Tuscan77 in vb6 and adodb.? Can anyone help me please.Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.Hi,

Creation of Server Proxy for Message interface with External Defination
Dear All,
I am getting a problem while generating a server proxy for the inbound interface . The request message used in the inbound interface is a external definition which is uploaded using a XSD file. The XSD file was supplied by a third party which is having very high complex strucuture and used lot of abstract data types in the design. When i tried to generate the proxy in the R/3 system (Transaction SPROXY) for the inbound interface i am getting following error.
Interface uses external and internal message definitions
Message no. SPRX122 *
Diagnosis
In a message interface you can use messages from different sources:
Message types and fault message types edited in the Enterprise Services Repository
Messages imported into the Enterprise Services Repository (external definitions, RFC, IDoc)
In the current message interface, message types from different sources have been used. Since messages from these different sources must be handled differently during proxy generation, such a mixture of messages within a message interface is not possible.
System Response
The interface cannot be generated.
Procedure
Change the interface definition accordingly in the Enterprise Services Repository.
Please guide me, how to generate the proxy for the interface with external defination message. I could nt geneate manullay, because it is having very high complexity and its a big structure.
Is there is any way to generate the proxy for interface with external definition
Regards
VijayanandHi,
i. Import your message schemas from external definitions, or RFCs or IDocs from SAP systems. These definitions already contain data types.
ii. Create a message interface and reference the messages of the external definition, or the RFC or IDoc message.
Check this, it may help you

Integrating J2EE application with SQL Server Reporting Services
Hello everybody,
I want to integrate a J2EE application with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. In fact, it is the first time to be involved in developing an interoperability component between .Net web service and Java application. So I have learned for some time how to pass this challenge. Moreover, I found the following virtual lab is an excellent starting point "MSDN Virtual Lab: Implementing SQL Server Reporting Services with a Java Enterprise Edition (EE) Application" [http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?EventID=1032315323&EventCategory=3&culture=en-US&CountryCode=US]
After going through the lab, I tried to apply the same code in my machine but I have stuck with the following error:
{color:#ff0000}*; nested exception is:*
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file.
{color}{color:#333333}I use the following tools:
- Netbeans IDE 6.5
- Java SDK: build 1.6.0_01-b06
- Web Server: Apache Tomcat 6.0
- axis Jars (axis.jar, axis-ant.jar, commons-discovery-0.2.jar, commons-logging-1.0.4.jar, jaxrpc.jar, log4j-1.2.8.jar, saaj.jar, wsdl4j-1.5.1.jar)
- Reporting Tool: SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services
I will be so grateful if someone help me. I am waiting your response
this is a snippet of my code :

Installing PeopleSoft HRMS 9.0 on Windows Server 2008 with SQL Server 2008
Hi there,
Recently I was involved to develop a POC with PeopleSoft and as I was very new to PeopleSoft, I had bunch of issues while installing PeopleSoft. It took me almost more than couple of weeks to finally get the PeopleSoft Application up and running.
I had bunch of questions also asked in this Oracle forum like :
Step by Step PeopleSoft HRMS Installation from scratch.
Tuxedo10gR3VS2008 patches absolutely needed for Peopetools Installation
Thanks to the replies from all you folks. That helped a lot. Anyways, so I thought of just writing a blog about the things I did while installing PeopleSoft on Windows with SQL as backend DB. There are many posts already on the web describing the steps but mostly with Oracle DB and Linux. Hence, here are the posts for PeopleSoft on Windows:
http://geekswithblogs.net/BizTalkUnleashed/archive/2012/01/24/installing-peoplesoft-hrms-9.0-on-windows-server-2008-with-sql-again.aspx
Hope it helps to newbie's in PeopleSoft Apps like me.
Regards,
Vishal Mody

I hate to be rude, but I am following you for a couple of days now on this forum and even in the same tread and it looks like you do not want to helped, you just want quick answers. I do not see you putting any effort nor show any respect for the product or the people how try to help you. Keep in mind that everyone on this forum is voluntarily posting answers, nobody is getting paid, and I'm sure you do not pay to post here either, so please do not use words as asap and immediate.
You started of wrong, by following a post and not following the installation manual and even tried installing the wrong components.
The post was written by someone with experience on the subject who meets the installation requirements, with all respect to the poster of the blog.
I have to backup Nicolas in his saying.
Nicolas has asked you to use better thread title (more informative than just "installation help") and you created a new thread with this subject.
This does not say anything about the issue you are facing now.
I doubt you can successfully complete this installation, not meant personally, but you are using the wrong software, on the wrong OS, with no documentation.
My advise:
Stop with what you have done until now and start all over by following the installation manual and hardware & software requirements.
If you really want to master a PeopleSoft installation, you can follow following course at Oracle University: PeopleSoft PeopleTools Installation & Server Admin. Rel 8.50
http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getCourseDesc?dc=D61702GC10&p_org_id=1001&lang=US
Do not forget you are trying to install an ERP system, this is not done by starting an installer and clicking on the Next button three times.

Help Needed!! Working with SQL Databases
Hi All,
I'm currently working on an application that interfaces with an SQL database, and I seem to have ran into a roadblock.
I have a multicolumn list box on my front panel which is filled in with data extracted from the database. On selecting any of the rows in the list box, another one is opened displaying another set of data extracted by a generated SQL query. At the moment I am only selecting one row at a time to view it's related data, but I want to expand such that I can select mutiple rows from the list box at a time and see all of their corresponding data.
With only a single selection, I can pass the index value of the selection to an Index Array Function with the database as the other input and build my SQL statement.
But with multiple selections, I imagine I would have to build an array on index values and use those as a reference to build the SQL statment. And I am not sure how exactly to go about doing that.
Here is the code that I currently have working for a single selection from the list box.
Any help is appreciated. Cheers.

Regarding building the array:
I can see hat you multicolumn listbox has not multiselection enabled, and is limited to one or zero selected item at once. To enable multiselction; simply rightclick your multicolumn listbox and change your selection mode to support multiple selected items. The NewVal at the event structure should change from a single index number to a 1D array of indexed numbers. No coding needed. Then just retrive out all the items (since you know the indexes) and create the quiry. The quiry part I dont really know (long time no see SQL), but it looks like a for loop to create the string should do the trick?
