Intermittent NO SERVICE

I have been getting intermittent NO SERVICE and then full bars at the same spot in the Upper East Side of Manhattan several times a day for the last week. Putting the iPhone SIM in an unlocked Nokia 6682 shows full bars all day. A reboot of the phone usually helps in keeping the bars for a longer time. I am in an area where every cellphone provider has strong signals and not near any interference sources (wireless routers, speakers etc).
I think this is an iPhone problem. Any other users have the same problem?

My best guess: this should be an iPhone software problem. Why? I am experiencing more or less the same problem... as a Belgian (European) iPhone owner, on the Belgian Proximus carrier network. All went fine from July 11th until today. Yesterday we made a trip to Paris. It took my iPhone quite a while to automatically connect to a French carrier, but it did! I made and received calls without any problems. Back in Belgium, it kept saying NO SERVICE. The iPhone does detect all carriers available in my area (Brussels) but cannot connect to "my" network/provider. Did a backup+restore and all. Nothing seems to work.

  • NEW CUSTOMER WITH INTERMITTENT SERVICE - IN NEED OF ADVICE

Let me preface this post by stating that I am a new Verizon Customer, as of a few weeks ago.  I've really enjoyed my Verizon FiOS services, which consist of the Verizon Triple Play with the upgraded 35/35 internet package.  I have wanted the service for quite a while, but it was not available to me until I moved to VA.
With that said, I am asking for some help in diagnosing the following issues that have plagued me for the last two days going on a third.
11/23 (Wednesday):  Data stops working.  No "Internet" or "WAN Coax" lights on router.  Chat with Verizon Support online who walks me through a reboot followed by a reset/restore of router, neither of which, work.  He then schedules a technician for the following day.
    11/24 (Thursday):
10:30 am - Technician arrives and gets cracking on the problem.  After a short time, he determines the modem needs to be replaced.  He swaps it out for another and data is restored.
1:30 pm - Data fails again.  This time my "Internet" light is orange and the "WAN Coax" light is green as normal.  I contact Verizon Support, via telephone, and he walks me through the entire reboot followed by reset/restore of router again.  This does not work.  He ends up remotely restarting my ONT, which gets my service working again.
3:30 pm - While on the phone with family, my call was disconnected abruptly.  I go into my office to see the "Internet" light is orange again.  I call Verizon Support and am once again run through the entire reboot/reset process.  This does not work.  Instead of the remote reboot, she walks me through manually rebooting the ONT by unplugging the power and battery.  The service is restore and working correctly again.  Regardless, she still scheduled a technician for the next day.
    11/25 (Friday):
10:15 am - Technician arrives.  I describe the intermittent issue occurring since his visit the day before and he proceeds to replacing the ONT.  He even replaced the coax cable from splitter all the way to the modem.  He cleaned up the slack in all the original wires and really took his time trying to make sure everything was good.  I was really confident that this was a done deal.
8:00 pm - Really bad failure this time.  FiOS internet, telephone, and TV all fail.  I got on the phone with Verizon Support and after explaining the whole story, she was nice enough to not waste my time with a router reboot.  She read through my log of support calls and service visits and automatically scheduled a technician for tomorrow.  We'll see what happens next.
Since getting off the phone with support, I manually rebooted the ONT and all services are restored.  Hopefully this will tie me over until morning.
I've read a number of threads on this forum and have noticed that there are some pretty sharp guys and gals here who seem to be able to successfully trouble shoot these types of problems without ever being there.  I am hoping this post falls into that category.  I really want this fixed and do not feel like losing FiOS in the pursuit of consistent service.  Any help that any of you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Dewarwd,
Sorry to hear you have had repeat trouble. You mentioned a field tech was coming back out that should of happened Sat.  If you are still having an issue since that visit let us know.  I have sent you a private message to assist further.
    Thank you

  • Intermittent "No Service" problem

Every now and again, my iPhone 3G says that it has "no service". It happens in areas that have plenty of service and where my friends' nokias all have service on the same network (optus). Is it possible that this is a problem with my iPhone? If so, how could I prove it to a mac genius? The problem is so intermittent that I couldn't count on it happening at the apple store!
Any other ideas as to what could be going on?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • New iphone, intermittent "no service" indoors in good reception area

    Hi. I'm new here.
I've had an iPhone 4 for over 2 years on O2 in the UK, and I've always been able to use it indoors at home. Yesterday, I received my brand new SIM-free iPhone 5, and I plugged in my new Vodafone pay-monthly nano SIM. I moved to Vodafone because they have a good coverage reputation.
According to Vodafone, I live in a good reception area, but indoors the phone signal indicator is moving between 3 bars and No Service. If I leave it on a table, it can change from good to bad over a few minutes, then get better again. This never happened with my old iPhone.
I have called Vodafone, and they say there isn't a service problem at the moment.
I have tried Reset Network Settings, and given the SIM a quick clean.
So, my next line of support would be Apple. But before I contact them, I wondered if anyone here had any advice?

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have said that it was one of the first things I tried. Sorry.
I had a brainwave: I remembered I bought a cheap pay-as-you-go Nokia phone on Vodafone for my kids in August. I switched it on, and put it next to the iPhone 5 on the table, and it's been showing 5 bars for the last 20 minutes. I'm no telecoms engineer, but that suggests to me that the Vodafone network signal is probably ok, and I can rule that out.

  • Intermittent status_code_error service unavailable messages

    Hi everyone,
I just got a new mac mini (2014) and overtime I go to download an app from the App Store or update an app that's already installed, or even in iBooks. When I navigate or download I'll get a "Status_Code_Error Service Unavailable" notification. I can press "Retry" and after a few times, it works. It has now happened for the last 2 days straight. It'll eventually work after I press Retry 2 or 3 times, so it's more of a nuisance than anything. But my internet connection works just fine (getting 50mbps up/5mbps down, and large downloads aren't hiccuping). I have good signal. All websites are working...
Is this a glitch? I tried restarting and logging in and out of iCloud with no benefit. Anyone else with this issue or any solution?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. I believe it's an outage of some sort. The same problem (can't download/update software apps from iTunes or the App Store) is affecting the iTunes store. I kept trying, and was eventually able to download some of the apps. Perhaps the updates for the new iWork apps (Pages, Keynote and Numbers were all updated just recently) is causing bandwidth issues?  Just keep trying, or come back later and try again.

  • Unrepairable problem- intermittant service

3 and a 1/2 hours yesterday. Service shuts down for no apparent reason. Six or seven times in 3 hours. 1 and  1/2 hours on the phone i finally get a live person.  Costa Rica. No better than India. Can't get a better than level 2. Had this type problem for a month. Got a new modem- no help. Got a supervisor in Costa Rica, no help, will have someone from Verizon call in 24 hours. I'll wait by the phone for 24 hours waiting for a call, right. I call again, Someone will be here Friday. Great. Thursday he calls at 8 30 am, be there in 5 minutes, wow. Finds the problem, line loss, I'm too far away. suggests I lower speed to 1.0. That will make the modem happy. Verizon calls, how you doing. Not that good, have to lower the speed. I'm shut down. Get a number to call to lower the speed, not in service. a 1/2 hour to get the right number. Shut down again. Another hour, achieved nothing. Still shuts down often. Called a guy in billing, he can't help but credits me a month. Welcome to my world of verizon.

    Thanks again.
I have followed the technote: unzip the file in lib as
indicated but I get the same error message. I thing I have to
upgrade to 6.1. Is it possible to upgrade to a french version of
coldfusion mx 6.0. Maybe the problem lies here.
Where can I download the english version mx 6.0 and then make
    an upgrade.
I am terribly sorry to take so much of your time . The adobe
    support cannot be reached.
Here is the file I have downloaded
If a ColdFusion MX 6.0 system has not been upgraded to
version 6.1 and the system cannot be immediately upgraded to
version 6.1, a workaround is available until the upgrade can be
    performed:
    Stop ColdFusion MX.
    Download cfmx60jce.zip.(191K)
Unzip cfmx60jce.zip into the cf_root/lib directory,
    overwriting existing files.
    For example: C:\CFusionMX\lib on
    Windows,/opt/coldfusionmx/lib on Unix
    Restart ColdFusion MX.

  • Intermittent 'no service' fault on iphone 5

My iphone 5 switches to 'No Service' doesn't matter if it is decent signal or not, just randomly drops for a period of time. I am with Business Orange and when I first reported the issue in November they swapped my phone next morning +++ that's customer service and support+++ I convinced myself the replacement was behaving and I honestly do think there was a slight improvement. I have put up with the poor speech quality, poor connectivity both wireless and GSM for over a month and during that time have been told I have missed a number of calls by people! Final straw was New Years eve and a friend complaining I didnt answer his call, later stood next to him as he was showing off - his Sony on 5 bars and my iphone5 on 'no service'! Called Orange reactivated my old iphone 4 and much happier, it connects to GSM and wireless networks much better, never drops GSM, call quality better.
Happy to put up with a smaller screen and slower unit for something that does what it should - WORK LIKE A PHONE. Apple please sort this issue out, Hardware or software too many people are experiencing this and I have possibly lost business and certainly time following the latest and the best release. I won't be an early adopter ever again!!!!!
If anyone has any suggestions or is experiencing the same....?

Seems that this might have been connected to the iShield protector I put on the iPhone which caused some water damage.  Either way, I spoke to a Genius who swapped it out for me.  Thankfully I was still full of warranty.

  • Intermittent browser services with Airport Express

Hullo. I am using an Airport Express to access my internet wirelessly. However, since I moved recently I am having a strange connection issue. All of my settings state that my connection to the internet is strong and that I am connected, but about every third or fourth webpage I access it takes an extended time to load, for instance, I can browse through a few pages and then there will be a page that takes about 5 minutes to load. It is not page based or content based as it will happen if I refresh my same page again and again. I have checked with my ISP and there hardware is working properly, and indeed when I bypass my Express everything works fine. Has anyone had this issue that can help me?

The Airports internet connection's Connection Sharing option is set to 'Share a Public IP address'.
The correct setting would be "Off (Bridge Mode)"
My limited understanding tells me that perhaps the Express should be set to bridge mode, to allow the BTHomeHub to handle all of the DHCP, to avoid random DHCP conflicts
    That is correct
I could give the Express a static IP, assigned by the HomeHub, and all other connections would be controlled by the HomeHub. Would this be a good first step to take?
There is no need to assign a "static IP" to the AirPort Express, but you could if you wanted to.

  • DSL = WORST Customer Service Imaginable!!!

If you are not in a FIOS wired geograpgy DO NOT get Verizon.  All the resource and infrastructure of Ma Bell is supporting that business.  They have out-sourced and automated regular line services to the lowest priority.   Following a storm last Thuirsday I have spent approximately 5 hours on the phone, going through automated steps and then with live operators attempting to avoid sending a technician to inspect the lines?   I will not answer which lights are on the modem anymore.....The modem has been replaced and going through the same "Which lighhts are on" routine does not rectify the intermittent internet service that is disrupting my work.  I still cannot get a technician to come and inspect the lines.... I guess COMCAST here I come.....Unbelievably poor, My current call has lasted 51 minutes and the big solution is........... they are going to send me text message status updates about my internet still not working properly for five days. Send a technician, send a technician, the lines have likely developed a ground fault.

1 hour and 10 minutes of not interacting with my family to be on hold with India = me cancelling.....third time is a charm.  Great Work

  • Customer Service Disgusting !!!!!!

    Hi,
Where to start? I am absolutely livid at the moment with BT and BT "so called" customer service.
I lost all my services about 4 weeks ago, due to a major outage in Edinburgh, ever since I have had a crackling phone line, an intermittent broadband service (max speed 0.12mb) and no bt vision due to broadband speed and poor line quality.
I used my landline to call the "customer service" department and eventually, after 43mins, got through to the Indian call centre. They had to call me back on my O2 mobile as the line was so poor they could hardly hear me and vice versa.
From there on in it has been a nightmare. Firstly I had to go through all the unplug this, unplug that, reset hub scenario, even though I was on a mobile and I had neither a phone or broadband light on my hub.
So, I asked for an engineer to be sent out, call centre advisor says" I will get and engineer to call you tomorrow between 8.30am and 9.30am to speak about the problem", so I arranged a morning off work and yes, no phone call was received.
Back onto the call centre using the mobile, to be told by a different advisor "engineers do not call customers". Not happy upon hearing this, I asked for an engineer to be sent out. The advisor then tried the old unplug, reset etc script.
After about 25 mins debating the matter, the advisor arranged for an engineer to come out on 13/12/10 between 8am and 1pm, great I thought engineer here on Monday. Booked another day off work.
Then I checked the fault status, and noticed it was not the 13th but the 20th.
Back onto call centre, to be told "Sorry, it was a mistake and nothing I can do" and then hung up!!
I am at the end of my tether with BT, my mother in law is in hospital at the moment with terminal cancer, my husband is tearing his hair out, as he needs to be able to communicate with other family members via Skype etc and this is also costing us money using mobiles every day, despite the fact we have already paid BT in advance for a service we are not receiving.
Is there a number in the UK I can call to resolve this matter.
    Thank You
I would also like to add that the line running into my house is over 25 years old and the junction box it is connected to inside the house has GPO stamped on it. How can equipment this old handle modern technology?
We had the same problem last year and the engineer ran 8 inches of wire from the old GPO box into a new shiney BT Openreach box and charged us £150, made no difference. When we refused to pay the £150, we had the option, pay up or we cut you off.  BT are not so quick when the fault is on their side?

Well, another day wasted by BT.
I finally got an appointment for an engineer to visit today, between 8 and 1pm and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, not an engineer in sight.
It is bad enough not having a phone or broadband at this time of year, but endless calls to an indian call centre using a mobile, is getting beyond a joke.
It is a constant stream of excuses and lies, "just checking with engineers department, I will call you back in 15 mins" etc. Never get a call back, then I phone back and just get the same "I am very sorry that has happened"
Getting very frustrated now, to top it all my bill was sent on 8th Dec to be paid by 18th Dec (today).
I just had a call via my mobile reference the non-payment (god knows how the billing dept got my mobile), I told the woman on the phone, I will pay my bill once the fault has been resolved.
She had the ordasity to tell me that my service would be restricted or disconected within 7 days if payment was not made.
How on earth can BT restrict a service that has not been working for the past 3 weeks???? Only BT can come up with something like that.
Sent an email to the billing department stating that if this is not resolved I will be boxing up the vision box, hub etc and sending the whole lot back.
Just had a call from the indian call centre regarding the missed visit, they said the engineer said he was unable to vist due to snow, what a joke, there is no snow here, the exchange is 1 mile away and I saw 2 openreach vans today going up my road, each time thinking that was the engineer coming.
BT full of lies, excuses and hiding behind Indian call centre staff.............but pay up or we cut you off.
Had enough, they can have the whole lot back, sent recorded delivery.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS BT

  • Dear Verizon, since you ruined my phone, please take it back

    Dear Verizon,
I've been using you for mobile service ever since you were Bell Atlantic.  I've been a loyal customer and haven't really asked for anything from you other than your usual good data and voice service in exchange for a fair price.
However, you chose to push out an Android 4.3/HTC update which has effectively ruined my phone.  There is no legitimate (e.g. not-a-custom-ROM) way to reverse what you've done, so I'd like you to please take the responsibility for this and allow me to return my phone or exchange it for another model.  What do I mean by "ruined"?
    - The wifi on the phone regularly "forgets" the passphrase to my work and home networks (about every 1 to 24 hours).  It also won't stay connected for very long after I re-enter my passphrase.
    - The wifi shows that I'm connected to networks that are no longer in range, and haven't been in range for days.
    - 4G service is often about as slow as a 28k modem, when it works at all.  This is in areas where I've known it to work reliably and speedily before, particularly at home and work.
    - You installed more adware on my phone in the form of apps that I will never use and can't remove.  (Which, as far as I'm concerned indicates to me that you claim some form of ownership of this device, so I guess if you own it you might as well take it back.  It's weird though, because I thought it was mine).
Since I effectively have no (or at best, intermittent) data service of any kind on my phone, I think that it's fair to say that it's been ruined.  If I wanted a data-less phone I'd move back to 1996 and get a Palm Pilot.  Oh, and I'm still paying for your wonderfully red map of the United States that you feature on your commercials while receiving little of the benefits.
These problems started immediately after the installation of the last software update, and the phone worked reliably and well for all the previous months that I've owned it.
I've tried all sorts of remedies as recommended on various forums and blogs.  None of it helps.
Incidentally, I've never been a fan of custom ROMs because they're unsupported by the manufacturer and service provider which could theoretically lead to warranty issues in the future.  But when the service provider and manufacturer are the ones making my phone worse instead of better, then I guess there's no harm in installing a ROM.  But I'd rather you just allow me to return the phone.
You know what, maybe I'm being a bit harsh.  You can take the phone back and fix it.  But if you expect me to waste hours troubleshooting a problem that you've caused then you're out of your minds.
    Regards,
    Scott

how many times have Verizon reps told you to do a factory reset? from what I'm reading that seems to be their solution for every android issue these days.

  • Not receiving mac mail again. frustrated!

This is the second time this month that I stop receiving any mail. At least 6th time this year.
Each time there has been a service advisory on the .mac page indicating that a small % of subscribers are having intermittent mail service butthat the problem has now been resolved.
I seem to get the no-mail problem 1-2 days after the reported "resolution".
oh - I did get 2 emails today. Both spam!
    What's the deal?

Not sure if this helps you, but it helped me: I have an Earthlink account that does a similar thing, it just stops receiving new mail in my Mail app. I've discovered if I check my mail on the Earthlink website and delete the next message I'm supposed to have received (after reading it, of course), then go back to my Mail app and click on Get Mail, all of the other emails I haven't yet received come into my mail box.
I've had this problem many times on my computer and so have several others at my work place and this fix worked for them as well. Which is interesting, considering our work email service is Verizon and not Earthlink.
Best of luck, I know how frustrating this is.

  • Rpc.nisd_resolv

    Solaris 10 x86 on V20z
    Error message:
Mar 18 18:35:59 systemname genunix: [ID 533030 kern.notice] NOTICE: rpc.nisd_resolv[1325] attempt to execute code on stack by uid 0
NIS performs fine for a few minutes after the system starts. After that, these messages start appearing and clients have intermittent NIS service. I have added "ulimit -n 256" to the ypstart script as well as tried adding "set noexec_user_stack = 0" to /etc/system. Niether have had any effect. I have seen some similarly related problems/patches for Solaris 7 and 8 but not for 10.
    Any ideas what's going on?

    Update:
Somehow, rpc.nisd_resolv eventually spawns on the Solaris 8 master server as well, not just on the Solaris 10 slaves.
I've confirmed several times that none of the ypserv daemons run with -d, and that YP_INTERDOMAIN is not present in the hosts map.
Anyone know of a way to make rpc.nisd_resolv go away for good? One workaround is to rename /usr/sbin/rpc.nisd_resolv, so ypserv can't exec it. But I would rather use a non-kludgy method, if possible.

  • Can I update to 1.1.3 from outside the US

I'm on a ship on the West Coast of Africa making stops along the way. Next stop Namibia
I won't be home for over 2 months
We have 24/7 internet and I have my macbook pro
Is it possible to update my iphone?
    Will there be issues?
Obviously I am far from an Apple Store and don't want to lose the use of my phone for the entire trip.

Since you are not near an AT&T network it will not be able to be reactivated.
I am not sure that is correct. I live in a very rural area and there is "No Service" in my home. When I run the 1.1.3 upgrade, the phone reactivates through the iTunes store (internet connection), not through the AT&T cell network.
(The FIRST time I activated the phone when it was new, it DID require connection to the AT&T cell network and that was a problem; but it has not required the cell network for reactivation after the upgrades.)
I'm on a ship on the West Coast of Africa
You may have a slow or intermittent internet connection. I use a slow and intermittent satellite service. IF you do decide to try to upgrade now, I suggest that FIRST you do a DOWNLOAD ONLY so that you have the full software package on your local computer, then try to apply the upgrade.
Back up everything, just in case. Be sure to do the iTunes 7.6 upgrade before you attempt to update the iPhone; some users seemed to encounter problems if they did not do the iTunes 7.6 first. (In fact, just to be safe, make sure ALL of the software on your MacBook Pro is up to date before you do the iPhone update.)
Call Apple iPhone support at 1-800-694-7466 to verify that reactivation after upgrade is through iTunes and the internet and does not require access to the AT&T cell network.

  • This IS a rant

For the past month I've been having problems w/my DSL line.  I thought my trouble days were over when I finally got a tech out here to run a dedicated line from my phone box to the connector in the computer room.  No more static, no more sudden drops.
Then, my router had to be replaced--this was discovered after wasting hours of my life on the phone w/Pakistan or Bangladesh w/"Krista".  (Right, reminds me of the credit card commercial w/ "This is Peggy.")
Waiting for the router--2 days.  Luckily my neighbor let me tap into her Comcast wireless for my laptop, but that did me little good in timesaving since the info I needed to send was on my desktop. So I had to save it to a flash & then send from the laptop.  Now, it seems that my intermittent internet service requires a technician to come to my house.  I really do not have time for this.  Have to reschedule my entire day to wait for the tech.
But, the STUPIDEST thing Verison does has nothing to do w/the tech people.  It's what you hear when you 1st call w/the "unable to connect to the internet code"--the hold voice over tells you to "contact us on the Web."  **bleep**!  I wouldn't be on the phone if I could get onto the Web.  And--there's no place to complain on the Web anyway.

It might be a good idea to provide the current model number of the modem you are using so that we can help you get the Transceiver Statistics from it. Those stats will tell us how the line is running and if the drop-outs are caused by the physical loop. Do this if you have not gotten a resolution from Verizon through the Private Messages.
