SBS2003 monitoring/reporting without using internal mail server?
Client is running SBS2003 and for certain reasons, is not running internal exchange. All Exch services disabled and need to stay that way.
Question; is it possible to configure the server somehow (registry, etc) to point the email to an external SMTP server instead of the internal mail server? We need to get the performance reports but aren't allowed to enable exchange.
Thanks!
CharlieAs best I can recall, in the SBS 2003 era..the reports are acutally emailed using the SMTP service and not exchange. No information has ever been provided from the MS Product team on how to make mods ot this.
But because of integration of SBS when you indicate the users to send to, it's looking at the FQDN and if its the one supplied during the CEICW wizard, then it's trying to send that to an exchange mailbox. Have you tried running the wizard and
supply an outside pop3 address? (not the hosted exchange) Does the message arrive?

No, I'm really not sparring with you. I'm just removing the irrelevant factors from the conversation.
If you really have to know, their hardware is somewhat underpowered for the utilization it is receiving. The client is on hard times and cannot afford to upgrade the server hardware, nor can they afford a second server. Rebuilding their domain onto W2K3/W2K8
standard is also too expensive a project for them.
They have hosted external exchange and have for quite some time. They are happy with it and don't want to change. The server, after we took it over and tuned things for them, works fine. They experience almost no downtime and performance is adequate given
the current configuration. But adding any additional load to the server results in performance issues, including memory and disk space. Adding an additional 5% load on the server for exchange right now is not an option for us or them. They do not want nor
need exchange running internally.
So it returns to the original question; is there any way to simply point the outbound email to a different SMTP server? Somewhere, the monitoring component says "send this information by email; connect to SMTP." If there's a way to modify that easily, we
will do so. If there is not, then we'll probably just shut off the SBS monitoring and use a 3rd party tool intstead. But pointing SMTP is possibly simpler than making those changes.
As a small-business consultant, we spend a lot of time trying to help small companies do things as cheaply as possible. For many companies, spending a few grand on a server or project is absolutely out of the question these days. So we do what we can. The
solution you are pushing can work fine for a larger company that has a healthy IT budget. But not in this case.

OT: Internal Mail Server
Anyone had dealings with internal mail-servers, specifically
what value
are they to a small company of say 10 people?
Is it not just as easy to set up outlook/outlook express on
those 10
workstations to recieve and send mail?
The question really is. What benefit are mailservers in a
small office?
Cheers,

Yeah it was becoming a big headache. I'd already tested email
through
the conventional channels, outlook express and everything was
running
smoothly. Then in comes this internal mail-server.
Anyway after several phone calls to tech support I finally
got one that
actually knew something. The simple problem was a catchall
email address
had never been intially set up on their severs, so nothing
was being
caught and sent on.
Damn silly mistakes take hours of my time to solve! -
Hi, I have private emails in IPAD2, i have chaged the incoming mail server name and saved the change.
but, when I back to read my old emails in inbox it's gone away, I have backed to setting and return the previous
incoming mail name, but also I did't get the old emails. where I can find the old emails in my IPAD2 ?It is only the link to your emails which are 'stored' on your iPad. You will have to enter all proper email addresses to get the message associated with them, which, in practice, means multiple accounts. If all still does not work try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release].

Is it possible to let OS X Mail server POP and Sort
Hi there!
I'm a current Kerio Mail server user and the way it's set up is like this:
All our mail gets delivered and spam-filtered at our hostingprovider's server, all mail drops into 1 big mailbox.
Kerio pops this mailbox every so often and distributes the mail to the users that are managed in kerio.
Is this setup possible with OS X Server mail services? We are receiving loads of spam and our connection acts up sometimes so this setup provides great availability.
[edit]
i guess fetchmail comes into play ... it is installed but not configured
[/edit]
Message was edited by: ZimmenA few missing pieces here...
1. Are you using Kerio on your machine, or that is what your hosting provider is running? (I will assume the former).
2. Does your hosting provider accept mail to AnyUser@yourdomain, or only to legitimat users at your site? If the former, it is no wonder you are getting hammered by spam. You will take anything. Your provider might be able to filter against an RBL list, but that probably only takes out about 70% of the spam on a good day.
Anti-spam filtering takes place on the SMTP side of the server. Once the mail is delivered to your SP, you've got the mail and have to deal with it on the client side. Ugly at best. Fetchmail will not help you here.
OS X mail does have a pretty good selection of anti-spam tools. Most notably, SpamAssassin and greylisting. But both (greylisting in particular) require your mail server be the only mail server for your domain for best results.
Mail does not require particularly high availability. If your mail server is missing for a while, the sending site will try again later. Mail is very resilient to temporary failures. You could set up your SP as a backup MX host if you want, but I would submit that would increase your spam load when your server is down or missing (mail relay from a secondary host, short circuits the greylisting feature).
I do not know Kerio myself, but for mail alone, the built in mail services in OS X (current version) are pretty good. But you are shooting yourself in the foot by having your SP collecting mail for you, especially if they will accept any user. -
Internal Mail Server IP Address
I recently starting working in a new office that runs their Exchange email server internally, so in my Outlook settings it just lists a local domain as my Server. I would like to be able to receive my emails from my phone but the IT department won't provide
me with a server domain that I can access outside of the office's network.
Is there a way that I can find out by myself the external domain? I've tried the obvious, mail.companyname.com, but no luck.
Thank you!Hi,
As far as I know, we can get the server FQDN and more information through the option "about"
in OWA. Then you can ping your server FQDN to get the server public IP address.
To get the internal IP address, you can contact with your Admin.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

I bought the Maverick server version.
I need to configure the mail service in order to download mail from my ISP with POP3 protocol and distribute internal mail to users on the workstations.
The mail client (and your devices) will be configured with IMAP protocol.
The mail will stored on the server.
Can you explain me if there is a way to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance
Best regards

Mail Server "Type" and Mail Server "Address" for Incoming & Outgoing Mail
First, the only browser I use is Mozilla's Firefox, the best browser hands down. Second, I have both a Yahoo email account and a Google "gmail" account that I use regularly (daily). I am trying to set up a mail washing program to rid myself of these ridiculous spammers & scammers, however I need to the the Incoming & Outgoing mail server "type" & "address" to do this and I seem to have guessed the yahoo settings, but I can't seem to get the Google gmail account set up properly. Yahoo settings that worked are: Server Type="POP3" and Server Address="pop.mail.yahoo.com", with advanced settings: Secure Authentication=Required, Secure Connection (SSL)=Required, Store Cached Emails=Yes, Server Port Number=995 (set), Pipelining=Enabled. The equivalent settings for the Google gmail account result in an error message = "Failed to log into POP3 Server". Of course user name & password triple checked, Type=POP3, Address=pop.mail.gmail.com, and , Address="pop.gmail.com" tried also, Port and other settings the same. Where can I find this info for both accounts? Tanks a million! -jw
Yahoo and Gmail support should be able to help you.
Not related to Firefox support, web mail doesn't use POP or SMTP protocols which is what email clients such as Thunderbird use for communicating with email servers. -
Send mail using Internal Mail server doesn't work
I can't send mail using my companies mail server, which requires authentication and port 587 to send. We have a valid, non self-signed SSL certificate so that is not the issue. I can send mail using Bell's mail server but that violates our regulatory compliance obligations.
The server using POP3 and one must login to get mail as well as send. Unfortunately there is no otehr error message than the: error sending "mail subject". No further details are provided and when we check the mail servers logs its clear the Pre isn't even attempting to connect to the mail server. So the request to send mail isn't even being sent out. That could be an issue with the Pre or with Bell but Bell support will only troubleshoot to the point of fidning out if you can send using their mail server. We can so their support stops at that point.
I still have v1.3.1 of the WebOS as v1.3.5 doesn't seem to be out for the Bell Pre's yet. But from what I've read v1.3.5 is even worse at handling mail not better. However, there may be a solution out there to this beyond sending the Pre's back (I doubt we can) as Balckberry's and iPhone's don't have this issue.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Bell)Further update on this problem. It does send if I use TLS instead of SSL so that must mean that the Palm Pre doesn't use SSLv3 or higher. As TLS is a viable security setting option to maintain compliance I can use that. But still Plam should seriously consider upgrading tis SSL versioning.

Mail server crashed and burned. Can't get it restored
I setup a DynDns server 2 years ago and then setup postfix to have my own mail server. I will admit that all this took me over a month as I'm not an IT guru. Many kind people helped through some forums.
Recently I had a complete server melt down. Server and both raid drives gone!
I'm replaced all the hardware and I'm tring to start again. I took what I thought were good notes just in case I ever had to start again but I can't get this working.
i have reestablished my DnyDns account and can get my web page to show from out side my network.
I'm using a road runner cable modem, with a linksys router. I have postfix enabler but I don't think it's working correctly.
I have tried telnet commands through terminal but the results are not consistent.
The end result is that I can't receive any mail. I can send mail.
Can anybody help me find a good web page with strong istructions or can anybody offer an help?
As I said, this isn't my strongest talent. I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,Never answered or replied to . Figured it out on my own

Please help with mail server choice and setup
Hello dear arch users, for begining i`ll start with litle intro what i know, and what i dont understand, so it would be easyer to help solve my problem, thanks for reading this.
I've been using arch for some time (few months) but i still dont know very much about it..
I have successfully installed lighttpd+php (fcgi)+mysql+phpmyadmin, ssh and mc allso of cource, serveral times, so i know how to solve little problems
I need everything lightweight because my arch's box is not so fresh as i could want
p2 350mhz CPU
192mb of RAM
8Gb HDD
10Mbit internet connection
whole project is for personal use only, and it will not even reach 10 user limit (me and some friends are using this..)
Now i`m willing to install mail server with some webmail ( i dont like outlook express thunderbird and other clients, only web acces)
I have googled for tutorials for 2 days now, just looking for best thing for newbie like me, with little knowlage of linux.
SquirrelMail or RoundCube wich one is bether ? I like RoundCube because it has nicer web design, but is it bether that SquirrelMail ?
Postfix and Dovecot are they enough good, or is there anything bether ?
Spamassasin and Graylistening will this work, or i`ll need something stronger?
Did i miss anything ?
I just want to say thanks for reading this, and helping me out. Thanks!
ps will this be good enough tutorial to follow ? http://www.hypexr.org/linux_mail_server.php

Eem on cisco 877, trouble with mail server action and smtp auth
hello all,
i'm using a router 877 at home and i really need to check out what this router do during the day.
So some time ago i configured it using some eem actions and sending to me email, without any problems.
Yesterday I changed my internet provider and now i need to use smtp autheticantion to send emails.
I read about how to authenticate, like username:password@host and also made a fast search here, without solve my problem.
I need to put as username the email of the provider like: :
So, i want to know if someone had the same problem and solved it. Of course i couldn't use @ two times or eem would think that host.com is my smtp server! And right now is going in this way!
My IOS version is 15.1(2)T2, eem version is 3.1.
Hope someone could help me!
Thank you in advance.
