Internet connecting at much lower speed lately

I have HSI Enhanced and have had it for 10 months at this location and for a number of years at my previous location. Last October I was connecting at 3360 / 832 kbps. After some months it went down to  around 2800 / 832 kpbs. I wasn't crazy about speeds getting lower as time went on rather than the connection being improved, but it was pretty much free of disconnects and reliable so I was happy with it.
In the past month or so I had noise on my voice line which Verizon fixed, but my connection is now 1792 / 448 Kbps all the time, that is a drop I will not accept if this is the way it is going to be from now on. Also there is a lot of losing the connection, not to the DSL, that light stays on but the internet light goes off. I went through the usual channels online chat, telephone support to wherever that goes. I'm done with all that, that's good for people with trouble using their modem, etc. or can't connect it but not what I am looking for.
Finally they sent out a tech who was a nice enough person, what he did was call a central office and after them first claiming the lower speed was the right speed they put the connection back in the area of 3360/832. Then they said it will probably adjust itself to down around 2800 down, which it what I had before so I was OK with it. After several days with a number of disconnects (they don't last too long but very annoying) I am back to 1792 / 448.
I am using the same modem - Actiontec GT704WGB
I don't need a tech call here in the house again, nothing has changed in here since I moved in months ago. They can check the outside signal without me waiting around for them. They don't have to stand in here to call an office on their tablet.
I need to hear from Verizon personnel that can tell me LOCAL information about why my connection speed has tanked and why there are dropouts now. And most importantly, why it can't be the same as it was for all those months. As I said, I was happy with that - especially when it was 3360 / 832 kbps.

When Verizon turns your speed back up, they have to disable the optimization system they use on the lines to maintain your speed, since it sounds like that is just turning your speed back down after a few days. Make them fix it back again.
For future note, if you do have problems with your DSL and you're also having audio quality issues with your phone, call Voice Repair, and leave DSL support out of the mix. DSL support usually dials back the speed for a line issue from what I've seen as a first try basis. If you do have noise that disappears when the DSL modem is off, then that could be from other things which DSL support OR phone support will be needed for.
Ex: Two years ago I had a problem with my Frontier DSL line having a ton of static on the line. The DSL modem was not synchronizing, however the noise stopped when I shut off the modem. It turns out, the night before lightning struck a tree outside of my home, and caused the DSL modem which was several years old to fry. The modem was still powering up, but the chip responsible for the DSL connection itself was blown. A new modem from Frontier via DSL Support fixed the DSL connection AND the static.
Ex2: At a local business with Verizon DSL, they hear static on their line from time to time, but only while the DSL is active. The problem was not with the DSL itself or any filters, but as the static got worse it began to show up without the DSL being connected. Voice repair was dispatched instead of calling DSL Support, and resolved the problem by running new cable between the building and the Verizon copper trunk. In addition, they found and corrected some corroding splices.

  • Connection issues and low speeds

    Hi there,
my family have been with BT now for about 3 or so years and the connection had been rather good until about late last year. According to my family it's everytime I come back home from uni the internet starts to play up as in:
    . Low speeds
    .Drops out and loses connection
Believing it was somehow my laptop causing the issues I backed everything up and completly wiped it because BT support thought it may be a virus on my machine even the the checks came back with nothing. So I've wiped my laptop and restarted it like it was a brand new laptop...still we're having these issues so I refuse to believe it's my laptop causing the problems. I've changed the chanel on the hub so many times it just doesn't make a difference. Tried different DSL adapters tried different cables even a wired connection causes problems. I am begining to think it's because the router has had it but I am willing to try anything at this point before asking for a new router from BT. Even BT don't seem to know what the problem is all they do is reset the routers chanel every single time I ring them.
So any advice or help would be greatly appreaciated
    Many Thanks
    Benjamin
PS - sorry for any grammar/spelling mistakes , I've written this in a hurry before the internet drops out again...

  • E900 - Internet Connection 3 times lower then direct one

Here is the problem. I use linksys e900 as an ethernet router.
If I connect my computer directly to the ethernet cable (without router) the speed is about 25-26 mbs. All the rest connections through the router give maximum 10 mbs and the speed is unstable. The connection is L2TP, the security is WPA2, the wireless channel is not AUTO.
So the problem with connection is with wifi connection and ethernet cable to router both.
I am sorry for my English (it is not my native language) and I will be pleased if anyone can help.

Hi NoiseInc, try these settings for your wireless configuration.
    Then try to disable QOS.

  • Ongoing Broadband connection drops and slow speed ...

Over the last few weeks i seem to be having random issues with my Broadband connection and teh connection has become very unstable and unreliable
The connection will randomly drop and re-establish, often at a much lower speed that it should be. I regularly get around 3 - 4MB download speed which is good for my area but often find that when it reconnections i get around 1MB. To resolve the issue i usually have to restart my hub (BT HH2) which then usually gets me back to the normal speed.
Luckily I do have a SamKnows box which shows this issue in a graphical form. Note how unstable the connection and speed seems to be! Surely it is not be like this?

    Any ideas please?

ok so i plugged my HH2 in to the test socket as suggested and today have found the connection to be more unstable than usual.... So around 45 minutes ago the connection drops and re-establishes and i get the below results:

  • Receiving 'low speed usb 1.1' error when syncing

I updated itunes to 10.0.1 a day after it was released and have synced my ipod a few times without any problems. A few days ago, an error message popped up when I connected my ipod saying that my ipod was connected to a "low-speed usb 1.1 port" and says I should "connect to a high-speed usb 2.0 port if one is available on my computer". The sync seemed to be slower than usual. My mac mini only has usb 2.0 ports and was connected directly into the computer and not to a usb hub.
I have reset my ipod, restored it, and restarted my computer and still receive the same error message.
Has anyone received a similar message and have any suggestions on what I can try next? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Internet Connection Settings Inconsistencies

    Hello,
I have a scenario where a small group of Windows 7 Pro computers are going to be used to administer an exam. The exam will be done in MS Word and the students
will be permitted online access to a few sites for research. In addition to their being a proctor in the room, the web-sites that the students will be allowed to visit must be metered. The easiest and cheapest way I have found to do this is to use Windows
7's built-in Internet Connection settings, much in the same way the settings for IE can be controlled, but for all of the browsers on the operating system. I set a proxy to a bogus address and allow exceptions for sites on a per address basis. A GPO prevents
users from changing proxy settings after they are logged in to Windows.
The problem is that the allow list for web-sites does not perform consistently. Allowing *.abc.com or just abc.com has the differing effects. Also not all of the
sites work on all of the computers. Abc.com will work on one machine but not another even though they are cloned from the same Windows image and are using the same proxy settings. A GPO is not used to distribute the proxy settings. I couldn't find where to
do that in group policy. Also, going to www.abc.com will work for a site but the entry
of just abc.com will not, though it is entered that way in the proxy list. Windows clearly states that entering just abc.com for a site will cover all domains going up and down, but it doesn't in practice. This is very frustrating. Has anyone had to do something
like this in the past or have a way to make Windows behave consistently?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please have a share with the IE version?
We should make sure the GPO works on the Internet Explorer version on all Windows 7 machines.
In addition, regarding proxy bypass list, we may check this article:
Using Proxy Selection and Proxy Bypass Lists
Here is another thread for reference: Internet Explorer exception for proxy
    bypass
Or we may consider to set the firewall settings as Ed suggested.

  • Firefox has been causing drops in my internet connection lately. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

OK, I recently wrote to the author of Session Manager about this problem, since I thought I'd narrowed it down to that, but, well, maybe not. I'll copy & paste that conversation here, rather than waste a lot of time writing up something from scratch, especially since I've already wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this problem, and I'm about ready to go berserk...
Hello. I've been using Session Manager for a long time, but lately, it's been causing a problem that's been driving me out of my skull, and I think I've finally pinned it down to SM. lately, when I've tried to load sessions, even with a small number of tabs, it's caused my internet connection to drop, or, at least, to slow down to the point where pages try to load, but finally come back with a message that the connection timed out, or the page had took too long to respond. I have my Windows Vista Home Premium computer running Firefox 11 connected via Ethernet to a wifi router that is connected to a cable modem. I tried disabling pre-fetching, resetting my router to factory settings, I tried a different router, I tried removing the router and connecting directly to the cable modem, i tried a different modem, I tried disabling the Symantec extension, I tried clearing windows' DNS cache, I tried disabling Firefox's DNS cache, I tried disabling Symantec's Firefox extension (I have Norton anti-virus), and I tried disabling my anti-virus & firewall programs (hmmm, did I leave anything out?), but none of that solved the problem. I haven't noticed this behavior with any other program, and Firefox goes along swimmingly otherwise. The reason why I think I've finally pinpointed it as SM is that trying to load a certain 9-tab session caused this problem multiple times, but I eventually got it all loaded correctly, and then I tried restarting it, and Firefox's own built-in feature of loading the tabs and windows if it closed properly the last time worked just fine, and it loaded quite quickly.
So, why might this be happening, and what can I do about it? Do you think it might be a matter of the SM data being corrupted/ If so, how do I get rid of it? I found the Session Manager Export Tool extension and exported my sessions and then tried uninstalling and re-installing SM, but it hadn't gotten rid of the old SM data. Please help, as I consider SM to be a vital part of my Firefox and have come to rely on it, plus I'd like to be able to use my old saved sessions again. Please help ASAP, too, as I've already wasted an unbelievable amount of time on this and I am extremely frustrated and aggravated. Thank you.
    The response I received:
"Session Managwr cannot cause your Internet connection to drop, it simply doesn't have the ability to do that. All it can do is cause Firefox to restore tabs that have been saved. It can cause lots of web pages to load, which could slow down Firefox or possibly your Internet connection (if you have a really slow connection), but it can't drop your Internet connection. The only exception to that that I can think of is if your modem has a web page with a reboot button and you press that, then save the session such that restoring the session causes the reboot button to press, but that is extremely unlikely.
By default Firefox loads tabs one at a time anyway so it's unlikely to slow things down when loading sessions. If Firefox can restore sessions properly, the Session Manager should be able to do so as well, since Session Manager uses Firefox's restore capabilities.
I'd recommend disabling plugins in Firefox and/or other addons and see if that helps. If you can figure out what changed recently that would help narrow things down.
As for Session Manager data. It doesn't store anything other than the sessions. You can delete those if you wish."
    My reply:
Well, I have a cable internet connection, so I don't think speed is the problem there.
Are you sure about Firefox loading only one tab at a time? I know when I load a session, it seems to show several tabs loading at the same time, and I can't remember it ever not being that way.
Frankly, though, I need more specific, targeted help than being told to just start randomly disabling extensions. I've ALREADY wasted an INCREDIBLE amount of time on this and am ALREADY EXTREMELY frustrated and aggravated, and to just go blindly shooting around in the dark at random is only going to throw craploads more wasted time and aggravation onto the already huge pile. I'm at my wit's end here. I can't take much more of this. I need REAL help. I need more specific, targeted advice about what sorts of things I should be looking for, what sorts of things I should be trying, etc. I don't have any patience left to just start flailing around randomly and likely getting nowhere fast.

    Hi,
You can try to verify that '''Don't load tabs until selected''' is enabled in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Options''' > '''General'''. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20General%20panel?as=u Options > General]
    [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options]
If the problem persists please also check in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. If the new profile is okay, you can later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile?s=profile&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy the needed personal data] from the old profile and start using the new profile. You can then delete or troubleshoot the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder another location (profile folder)] separate from its [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory folders/files]. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window Options] and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config], and usually would also be empty of '''Extensions''' and themes ('''Appearance''') in '''Tools''' > '''Add-ons''', and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website cache/cookies/data/preferences: '''Tools''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History '''Clear Recent History'''].

  • How can a session be setup between two MacBook Pro's at different locations on high speed Internet connections, be setup to have a live recording session in Logic?

My partner and I live on opposite sides of the valley here in Phoenix. About 50 miles apart one way. We are Musicians and are working on a commercial for television, and would like to know if there is a way, between FaceTime and Logic, that we can configure our MacBook Pro's to record sessions together without having to be at the same house? When we FaceTime, he can hear my keyboard through his headphones, but we can't seem to get the signal routed into Logic and register to a track when its record enabled. Is there a way for us to save gas, and record at seperate locations, so he can engineer me and I can engineer him, while we build this project in Logic and Final Cut? Here is what we are using, we have nearly identicle setups, which was planned so we might be able to do something like this. Both of us are using Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro's with 2.6GHz Intel i7 processors and 16GB RAM. The only difference between the two MacBooks is that his has an Optical Drive, but I removed mine and replaced it with a 2nd SSD Drive, so I have two Samsung 840 Pro's each with 512GB in my MacBook Pro. His just has one Samsung 840 Pro with 512GB. We both use Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 Firewire Audio Interfaces, and we both use Logic Studio 9 Academic. I don't know if you need to know what we are using in order to help us figure out how to configure the MacBooks for a live session, so I figured I would give you those details just in case. If you need any more information, just let me know? Oh, we both have high speed cable Internet connections. Mine is 150Mbps speed which is the absolute fastest I can get in my area. And his is only a 50Mbps speed line.
Again, what we are looking to do is have a LIVE recording session, in Logic, with him at his house and me at my house. When we FaceTime each other, we can pretty much hear each others keyboards as if they were part of the conversation, and as crystal clear as we can hear our own when recording, but we can't seem to record enable an Audio track in Logic and route that keyboard signal into Logic and record it so we can engineer each other without either one of us having to drive to the others house, to be there to do it. If any of this even makes sense, I'm not quite sure how to better explain it. So hopefully you get what I mean, otherwise just say so, and I will try to do a better job explaining it.  :-)
Anyone who can help us with this little problem would be greatly appreciated, and quite a hero in these two humble Musicians Worlds!! So from both of us, THANK YOU in advance for any input you might be able to give us. I look forward to hearing any and all suggestions.
    Scott

    Hey Scott
You and ALOT of people are attempting to do this, myself included.
Unfortunately at this point (to my knowledge) it's a pretty CRAP setup involved that will likely leave you frustrated.
    HOWEVER:
A few things CAN be done:
IF you are getting live audio from your partner over the internet, you can re-direct that audio directly into Logic using a program called SoundFlower.
There are a few alternatives to SoundFlower, like JackTrip, and.....(the name eludes me)
(SoundFlower is from a company called Cyling 74 who also makes Max MSP. )
Once in Logic, you set your audio inputs to the track to be Soundflower. (either 16 inputs, or in this case 2)
That all being said, regardless to speed, you are still going to experience latency in the connection, and THAT is the part that will likely drive you to the mad house.
THIS all being said, I believe there are websites out there that are set up to actually do this kind of thing, (at least there WERE) but likely membership costs, and other "hidden" problems that you only learn about after you have signed on the dotted line. (Hopefully I am wrong?)
If you don't need to do a "live jam", there are always solutions like DropBox that work very well for exchanging large files quickly.
If you want to record live MIDI input from his keyboard, I am unaware of any solutions for this.
Due to the popularity of the iPad, you might want to look into the App store, and see if there is something available.
    Good luck!

  • Low speed connection, but still have input history.

    Hi there,
We have done some tests in our business to see the performance difference between "low speed connection" being enabled and disabled for a system, both from a network perspective, and from a performance perspective on Citrix servers.
We have determined that the 'input history' feature doesn't cause much performance impact, but a lot of the other 'high-speed' features like images and tool tips do.
We would like to be able to have "low speed connection" for our system, but still enable 'input history'. Is there any way this can be achieved, such as through INI or registry changes?
    Thanks,
    Michael.

I raised a message with SAP, and they responded saying that this is not possible

  • Low speed via cable connection

So, I have this Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router (http://www.apple.com/airport-extreme/) and I can't get the advertised speed. My internet connection speed is 1Gb/s, but I can't get it from this router (via cable or wireless connection). I did >100 speed tests on http://www.speedtest.net/ with the router and the maximum speed was 217Mb/s. The maximum speed when I've connected my iMac directly to my ISP's internet cable was 926Mb/s.
Does anybody have the same problem?
I'd like to note that all cables for the router's clients and WAN are CAT 5e cables.

WAN to LAN throughput when the AirPort Extreme ac is set up in router mode is going to be in the range of 300-350 Mbps on a very good day. You might want review the test results below:
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/74-wan-to-lan
What speed do you see if you leave the AirPort Extreme connected to the Internet and then connect your Mac to one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme?
It won't do much good to test wireless until you can get the WAN to LAN speed over Ethernet up to the 350 Mbps range.

    Dear sir
Thank you very much. I am not a computer davy. still I ail try to explain. I am in Chennai India. My service provider is BSNL. I have a broadband connection wit 4 mb speed - though I get only 3 to 3.3 mb. The TC is connected to the modem *** router through ethernet in wired LAN1 socket. My iMac is connected to the modem in LAN2 socket through either net. Though the TC is permanently connected to the modem-router, it gets connected to the internet only if it is shown in the dock. If it is exited from the doc, it loses internet connection. I tried factory reset. Still the same problem. Therefore, unless the iMac is open and the Tc is shown in the dock, TC is not connected to the internet. Therefore all the time iMac need to be open and running. I hope, eih little knowledge I have explained. Thank you
    S KANNAN
    IRS(RETD)

The TC is perhaps in the wrong mode..
If you have a modem router the TC should be connected by ethernet and the computer plugged into the TC not the modem.
TC will be in bridge mode.. but it can lose connection on a daily basis.. if you have that issue downgrade the firmware as later firmware is not reliable.
I recommend 7.6.1 but the earlier ones are better on 7.5.2 .. anything more than 18mths old should go back to 7.5 firmware.

  • Why my macbook air is eating up so much megabits from my internet connection?

Is there anyone out there who can explain why my macbook air is eating up so much megabits from my internet connection, despite the fact that ı'm not using the internet?

Any client on a network, including wireless clients you don't know about, could be consuming bandwidth. Wi-Fi networks must be protected with WPA2 security. If yours isn't, change the security setting on the access point. If it's already set that way, change the password. Make it a string of at least 8 random characters, including digits and upper- and lower-case letters. The password is saved in the keychain and you don't have to be able remember it; in fact, you shouldn't be able to remember it.
You make these changes in AirPort Utility, if the access point is an Apple device, or in a web browser otherwise.
If the network or the password was insecure, and bandwidth use returns to normal after securing it, you can be pretty sure the problem was caused by intruders.
But intrusion may not be the issue. Most often BitTorrent, iCloud, Dropbox, or some other cloud-data application is involved in cases of mysterious bandwidth use by a Mac. If you use iCloud, uncheck at least Photo Stream and Documents & Data in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. If you use third-party network backup or file-sync software, disable that. If you use a torrent client, remove it.
Otherwise, if you're running OS X 10.9 or later, you can see which processes are most active on the network.
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select All Processes from the View menu, if not already selected, and also select the Network tab.
Click the heading of the Sent Bytes column in the process table to sort the entries by bandwidth usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Repeat with the Rcvd Bytes column.

  • AirPort Express (2nd) Internet Connection Speed

    Dear All
    First of all, I looked everywhere on the internet about this issue I’m having and couldn’t find any solution. To explain my issue let me tell you how and why I use AirPort Express shortly;
    My Purpose
I have a wireless network and all my PCs are connected in one network. I have a Windows server and using it for general purposes and also as a file server. But if someone joins my network, they all are able to see my shared folders. They are able to read/write files (even delete them).
So I decided to create 2 networks with AirPort Express (2nd Generation). I have a wireless network for internal use only (for me and my PCs) and one Guest network.
Everything seems okay and there is nothing wrong.
How I Installed AirPort Express (APE)
I connected APE to my router (standard US Robotics DSL router) and my switch to APE. I used AirPort Utility on a Windows 8 PC and configured APE settings.
Base Station status seems normal (have a green light as well) and works okay. I can use my internal network, my PCs are communication with each other (they are all on the same switch). Guest network also works okay and seems like there is nothing wrong.
My router uses 192.168.2.xx IP range and APE is using its own 10.0.1.xx IP range. This makes APE to add an issue to Issues list as Double NAT.
    What is Wrong?
I have internet connection and I can browse web pages and do that kind of things. But my internet connection is really slow and some times cannot display web pages. I have to refresh some pages a few times to display it. My ping increased 5-6 times over than normal.
I thought the problem is the PC that I’m using but then realized that every PC has the same issue. I made a speed test and it showed 352ms ping to the nearest server to me which is really a high value.
My connection is unstable. It’s not dropping but speed suffers. Here is a test result. In this test my ping was 31 ms but as you see speeds are suffering. My connection is supposed to be 8mbps (Down) and 1mbps (Up).
What should I do to fix it? What is the point I’m missing? Could you please help me? Please let me know if you require further information.
    Thank you very much.
    Best Regards

    Dear All;
I just disabled DHCP Server from my router and now it seems to be better. But I don't know if it's something that I shouldn't do or not. Have any ideas?
This is the new result after disabling DHCP from my US Robotics router. There are still some minor issues (latency, slow downs etc.) but now seems to be better than before.
PS: I still have that "Double NAT" notification under Issues section.

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • Does anyone know of an excellerator that I can down load to speed up my entire internet connection. I have dial up from windstream,i live in middle of no-where,KY and dont have access to high-speed intewrnet here, PLEASE HELP.

My internet connection is very slow dial up thru windstream and they dont offer high speed where i live and neither does anyone except Hughes Net,but they are way to expensive. Not an option for me at this time. I used to have dial-up thru southeast telephone and they gave me an excellerator that sped up everything.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. No windstream doesnt offer that,i asked and they have no intention to do that in the near future. They plan on offering highspeed to everyone in the future, but as of now they dont offer it in my area and have no plans of replacing the phone lines in my area anytime soon either. so until they replace the lines in my area, its not available .
