Internet fax upload problems

For iMac late 2008 OSv10.8:
My iMac will upload and send an internet fax only if I enter then save document first as PDF via my ScanSnap USB-connected scanner. PDF documents saved from Microsoft Word or some other program, .doc files, and .docx files will not upload for fax, yielding an error message that they cannot be sent in that format.
I have had the same problem with this iMac with both of two internet fax services, both RingCentral and VirtualPBX. Therefore the problem is at my end.  I do not have the problem at all when I send an internet fax from my newer MBAir or my spouse's newer iMac, both of which are running the same up to date OS as my older iMac. So the problem seems localized to my iMac and possibly its hard or firmware.
Help?

Word's formatting is not as stringent as PDF.  PDF can actually convert text only formatting to a pure image easily.  I suspect the issue is with dealing with Word's awkward file format.   I would contact the software vendors making the fax software.

  • Why, all of a sudden, can't I download documents from websites or e-mail attachments when I can do this on Internet Explorer without problems?

When I try to download a spreadsheet, document, or other item from a website, using either run or save, everything freezes up and no download occurs. Or sometimes the item will download in a nonsense jumble of numbers and letters. The same thing happens when I try to download an e-mail attachment from someone. Thing is, I can do all these things from Internet Explorer without problems. This has only happened within the past couple of months. Before that, I had no problems . What's happening?

    That's right; openbox-session worked.
Edit: Here's eventually bspwmrc, but there shouldn't be anything wrong.

  • Need a fix for Muse upload problems to GoDaddy????  I found one!

GoDaddy now has a new cpanel named "Plesk".  In that panel you will find File Manager.  (I use the Windows version).  In the left panel of File Manager, you will see the root directory and all of its subfolders.  When you click on any of these folders, you will see their contents in the right panel.  You will also see a folder labelled "httpdocs".  This is the default folder that is set up in GoDaddy to be your "home" folder.  So, to fix your upload problems, do these steps:
    1.  Click on the httpdocs folder to see it open in the right panel.  In the toolbar above the right panel, you will see a green plus sign with the word "New".  Click on this drop-down menu.
    2.  Choose "directory"
    3.  Type in the name of one of the folders that your site will need, e.g. images, css, assets, scripts, etc.  This basically creates a subfolder within the httpdocs folder, right?  (There is a way to see how your Muse site sets up these folders prior to publish or upload.  You do this by choosing "Export as HTML" in the File menu of Muse, creating a folder on your desktop (or wherever) for the HTML export, then inspecting its contents after your save it.)
    4.  Continue to create all the subfolders within httpdocs that you will need.  Unfortunately, you have to do this one folder at a time.
    5.  After you have them set up, begin the process of uploading your site, like this:
    6.  In the File menu in Muse, you'll of course see "Upload to FTP Host ...".  Click on it.
    7.  A dialog box will open.  In the top text field, type in your website name ... you must use www. with your entry
    8.  In the "FTP Host" field, type in your domain name again like this ... "ftp.yourdomain.com" ... NO FORWARD SLASHES!!! (even if you find instructions to the contrary, like in Filezilla)  (Also, your domain might be a .org or .net, instead of a .com)
    9.  In the "Host directory" field, YOU MUST ENTER "httpdocs"!!!!  Despite what you learn, DO NOT LEAVE THIS FIELD BLANK!!!
    10.  Then enter your GoDaddy username and password.  (If you set up a different username for your GoDaddy account and your Plesk account, like I did, then use your Plesk username and password.)
    11.  Click on "Upload:  All Files"
The next few steps are tedious, but necessary to keep your site organized on GoDaddy and to keep from confusing things.  You can probably get away with it, but, if your site doesn't load properly in a browser after doing the above steps, you'll need to click on each folder in the root directory that you copied as a subfolder in the "httpdocs" folder and delete the files.  For example, in the left panel of File Manager, you'll see the root directory.  Click on the "images" folder.  If there are any images that you need for your site in that folder, delete them.  Remember ... you've already copied them over to the images subfolder in httpdocs during your last upload described in the instructions above.  If you don't trust that you can delete them, click on the "httpdocs" folder, then click on the "images" folder and check the files.  Same files, right?  So, go ahead and delete the site files that you find in the appropriate folders in the root directory, making sure that you don't delete the ones that are NOT duplicated within the "httpdocs" folder.  Also remember that your .html pages will not require a subfolder to be set up in the "httpsdocs" folder.  They can just sit there, looking pretty.  But you will have to delete them from the root directory to keep things tidy.  Just click on the folder icon next to "root directory", and you'll see those html pages in the right panel.  Again, delete them.
REMEMBER:  To keep your Muse uploads to your GoDaddy site error free, you must ALWAYS make sure that "httpdocs" appears in the "Host directory" field in the "Upload to FTP Host ..." dialog box in Muse.  And all files and folders that your site needs MUST go in the "httpdocs" folder in the root directory of your site in GoDaddy's File Manager (now found in your Plesk Panel).
I hope this wasn't too confusing.  If so, call GoDaddy.  I called them with this fix and they are using it in their phone support.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was going out of my mind. And GoDaddy was no help (although they're usually really good.) I put all the folders in "httpdocs" and the website worked perfectly!

  • A different uploading problem

I have read through the discussions and see that a lot of people are having an uploading problem. I am too, but my problem is a little different. When I upload my photos, everything seems to be fine, all the pages turn from blue to red, and it appears to be done. But, if I quit iWeb, it says it hasn't finished uploading. When I go to the site on the web, everything is there. So, it seems to not be finalizing the last little part where it marks the files as uploaded.
    I am using iWeb 1.1.1.
I have tried deleting the files from my iDisk and uploading again.
    I have repaired permissions.
I have deleted the file com.apple.iWeb.plist
It's not that I'm trying to quit too soon, I have left it for hours, even overnight, and it doesn't complete.
There's a small circle to the right of the word site that fills in to show progress as it's finishing, and that gets to the point where there's only a small sliver of white.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

  • Uploading problem with Ebay and Dreamweaver MX

I am unable to sync websites with Dreamweaver MX 6.01. When I connect to the remote server, it shuts down the program. I have reinstalled the program, but it still does it. Also, when I use Safari, Opera, and Firefox to upload photos on Ebay, the upload process fails completely, and blows me directly into My Ebay, as if I was not on the selling page at all. I have to go to my PC to do the photo uploads. Seems like it may be a related issue, some kind of uploading problem with Rosetta, or something. I am using a Macbook Pro with the 2.0Ghz processor, connected with ethernet cable, and firewall is set to off. Any ideas?

For E-Bay you might try the following:
Type the following command in Terminal (while Safari is NOT running):
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Then launch Safari, and you will be able to use the new Debug menu.
If you ever wish to disable it again, just repeat the command with a "0" instead of a "1".
Under the Debug menu, you'll see the User Agent sub-menu; select Windows MSIE 6.0 from the list and then try connecting to your web site
Dreamweaver you might need to update your version.

Is the July 9 internet issue a problem for Mac Pro users or has Apple taken care of this issue in updates?

It is a only a problem for users affected by the malware that replaces their DNS IPs on their macs. They already have a serious problem which they should fix. Follow the url in sig's post to determine if you are infected and how to remove it.

  • Uploading problems with Safari 4.1.3 -

Hello, I just thought this was a funny question to ask -
On my PowerPC G5 tower, running OS 10.4.11, and my question is in regards to Safari version 4.1.3 uploading problems for facebook and youtube... I always have to use FireFox version 3.6.13... and not without trouble either.
I get it.  I need a new computer, but I just thought it fascinating why one works 90% of the time and the other never works.

Firefox is way more upto date than Safari in 10.4.11, but TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Also I think they Require Flash &/or Java, which may be a problem in 10.4

My iPod's OFF/ON switch is not working and I have checked over internet that this problem is very common with iPod Nano 6th generation, my iPod is now out of warranty period. What shall i do now?? Please Suggest!!

You can do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store for a fee, get a 3rd party site to repair it, sell it for parts, or get a new one.

  • Is Safari the problem?  upload problems after Leopard install...

I installed maximum ram and leopard 10.5 on my old emac and it runs great. I had problems uploading photos to ebay, and attachments to emails, so I installed ilife hoping the upgrade would fix the problem. Nope, when I attempt to upload, the icon just spins and spins, on and on. Could this be a Safari problem? Very frustrated, totally stumped.

I'm not sure how to link to the iPhoto post thread that help me solve my upload problem. But it is solved. I had to resize the jpeg pic files to 640x320 because my files were way to big. Thanks Old Toad!

  • Is there a way to reset my Terminal or internet settings? Problem uploading photos

I recently moved to Vietnam and tried to make changes on Terminal in order to ensure facebook access. Now, I can access Facebook but I can't upload photos or change my profile picture. The Facebook Exporter for iPhoto will not even let me log in. Also, my Facebook notices never disappear from the top of the homepage. Does anyone know how to reset my internet settings or do something else to clean up my Terminal? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Hi James,
I guess either option may help i.e., Time machine option and Restore Library option.

  • New MBP - wireless/internet access networking problem - a summary!

    Greetings!
New MBP here, with all the trimmings (MacOS X 10.4.10 - Safari 3 Beta). New also to the Apple/MAC world
MBP >> wireless networking into a Linksys WRT54G router and >> thru HughesNet DW7000 Satellite Internet connection (not the fastest, but hey, the US and especially rural areas are NOT S. Korea when it comes to speedy internet connections!
Frankly, I bought into it for two reasons: First, hearing about the vaunted Mac a/v/ and doc/photo editing capabilities,... and about MacOS stability, etc... Well, it all needs a little work still: on the part of new users like me, but also probably on the part of the Apple/Mac people as well. 2nd reason I decided to purchase the MBP - i.e. ability to run Windows (I have not yet tried BootCanp, etc...: still resolving preliminary issues!). I still live in a heavy Win environment at my business - no other way of course!
Communications issues seem to still prevail: I am hanging out at several VERY HELPFUL forums (AppleDiscussionForum, MacRumorsForums, etc...) and the same issues keep popping up. Im my case, same as all above reported, with a few additional points, as follows:
    1. Xmission errors: seem to be - at least in my case - a constant factor, regardless on how close/far i am from my wireless router. For example, I would be attempting to dwnload an upgrade (large)QT or MacOS file. i am barely into the dowmoad, and I already have several Read/Send errors. By the end of the download, I will have probably about 15 Rcv and 5 Send errors. Never gets quite that bad in my Win machines, I must mention. Anything to do here (I know, there are such things always affecting wireless com). AND, MOST importantly, how that this affect the effectiveness of the upgrade (I spotted same thing with MacOS 10.4.10 and Safari Beta 3 upgrade downloads!). Would it be likely that applying upgrades in such circumstances would screw up the OS??? Could OTOH such errors be automatically "compensated" by re-xmits from the source, and eventually the download would be OK? Because quite frankly, I do NOT know if my important upgrade download was OK to apply to the system, given those errors!!!
Also same thing with PING errors. Quite frequent when pinging another device on my network.
    2. Quite often, accessing a site will proceed somehow OK, and then things will get stuck twd the end, as if some buffer somewhere gets overloaded??? Of course, as elsewhere reported, same can often happen with com getting stuck right over the "www" part of the URL!
    3. AND, of course, the often reported "NO connection to the Internet", but computer shows good signal level and connection otherwise.
    4. Strangely enough, seems that the Airport Extreme wifi card sort of "warms up the the internet" as one proceeds to start using it. It eventually picks up on a network, and often "improves" its connection over time!
    5. Built in Airport Extreme seems to not exhibit up all immediately surrounding networks. Sensitivity issue?? iStumbler does.
    6. iStumbler permanently posts noise level of 9% regardless of how close to my wireless router/broadband modem I am. Anyone uses iStumbler to monitor network traffic?
This is getting longuish: I just want to get over all those p*ant issues and get into putting my a/v stuff together!!
    - Roger T
Thanks for just reading all this!. I am not sure it is all fixable (back to the Win "features" terminology, really meaning "bugs"??)

Thanks, BDaqua. This support forum is quite well stocked: I have been perusing all its nooks and cranies!
On the www.dslreports.com - All things Mac - forum, I spotted a couple of mentions of the following type of infromation:
    link: »www.hardmac.com/news/2007-07-27/#7039
    - The first TechNote provides information concerning the Airport problem affecting the MBP Santa Rosa (but also other Mac Intel). When used on battery, the wireless connection drops and one can even experience kernel panic. Apple Centers are asked not to exchange affected notebook as this is due to a unidentified bug in the Atheros driver, and should be fixed in the future with a simple Airport system update. So for the moment, unfortunate users are asked to directly power their notebook when using wireless network, or using Ethernet connection when running on battery... in other words, turn your notebook into a desktop

I am wondering if you and folks on this close-to-Apple forum know anything about this. At least, we could just await remedy instead of messing around endlessly looking for solutions and... pondering as to whether it was a wise thing to purchase an expensive machine which happens to have trouble communicating online. After all, seems that the Mac folks are prone to spend MORE time online uploading/downloading music and videos instead of my being normally doing with the rest of my (Win) computers, i.e. work on customer lists, correspondence, inventories, accounting, data bases, etc....
So, seems to me we do have a pb and Apple might just save a few $$$ on silly ads and get to work on com instead. if nothing else to avoid the appearance of further - admittedly rather funny - ad-spoofs!
So back to your further inquiry. I run a wireless network from a HughesNet satellite modem, thru a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router, into some nearby office LANed desktops and point of sale equipment, to another neighbouring facility via wireless bridge, and to my Mac laptop. Distance from the laptop to the router: 50 ft max.
It all works surprizingly very well: up to 200kbps up and 1000 kbps down (in prime time, 150 up and 600 down). OK, my set up looks complex and incurring LOTS of activity. Actually, online activity is quite minimal and well scheduled - right now I am the only machine on the network online. Otherwise, our office processes online money wiring for customers among other things.
I'll try your DNS server choice on the Mac settings first. Will report accordingly.
    Thanks for everything!

Yesterday the my router and ONT were replaced by the tech.  He switched me from ethernet to MOCA.  My feelings are the dirty fiber or bad/failing PONS card.   I don't get any indications my link is getting saturated by anything I'm doing on the network.

  • Photo book uploading problem

I have created a photo book in Elements 7 and cannot get it to upload to Kodak.  My OS is Windows 7 and I am using Noton 360 security software.  I make it through the ordering of the photo book and the uploading seems to go to completion, approximately 20 minutes for the 568MB file, but then after a pause I get a pop up message saying  "There was a problem with your internet connection.  Please check that there is not a firewall blocking Photoshop Elements from accessing the internet and that you have an internet connection."  My ISP is Verizon FiOS, I've checked the connection speed and have experienced no other internet access problems.  I have my firewall set to allow PE7 to access the internet without restriction, and have also tried uploading with the firewall disabled with the same result.  I contacted Adobe support and even agreed to the $30 charge, but they said this wasn't a Photoshop problem.  Kodak says if they don't receive the upload it isn't their problem.  I would really like to get this photo book printed (daughter's college graduation).

Thanks for the update, Bob.  While I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue with Kodak, I still feel there is something on my end that is not right.  I just tried to order additional copies of a photobook we did a  couple of years ago (43 pages, 147mb).  The upload process took just 10  minutes but failed with the same error message.  This was a photobook we had successfully ordered from Kodak before, using PE6 running on an older computer with a slower internet connection.
You mentioned internet bandwidth as a determining factor, using a faster connection as a possible solution. I have a Verizon FIOS 20/5 connection, periodically test my download/upload speeds, and that's pretty much what I get.  I had reasoned that since PE7 takes like 20 minutes to upload a 300MB file there must be something else going on.  Btw, there was one particular upload speed test I just tried that failed,"probably due to a hardware or software firewall blocking the FTP protocol the test uses".  I was also not able to run this test successfully with the Norton firewall temporarily disabled.  Does the PE7 photobook upload utility use an FTP protocol?
