Introduce yourself to the community!

Hey all,
This thread can be used to introduce yourself to the community. Just say hello or maybe even add a little bit about yourself. Whatever you feel comfortable with I'll start it off I'm Yannick, I joined Telstra in July, but have been lurking around for quite a while now. I'm the community manager here at CrowdSupport so should you have any suggestion or need anything, don't hesitate to give me a shout!
So that’s a bit about me and I am looking forward to seeing you all in the forums soon!

Hi Everybody!
I'll start the introduction ball rolling with an introduction of myself: my Earth name is Dylan, and this the first time I've ever used the word "introduction" so many times in a sentence. I have been sent here from my home planet to help you use these forums in the most efficient and effective way possible. I am well versed in a number of languages including English, and some others that I can assure you aren't made up. I have been working at Telstra for nearly four years now, helping customers via phones, email and live chat before a year ago joining our Social Media team and talking to you via Twitter, Facebook and Whirlpool where I have learnt all sorts of new acronyms.
My job here will be to moderate the forums, review flagged posts, and occasionally to step in and join the conversation every now and then when it is needed. I'll do my best to help in any way that I can. But that's boring* so let's talk about me.
I love a good game, and spend most of my spare time attached to my PS3 playing NBA 2K11, and have been playing the GTAs ever since the very first overhead view one. I'm still plugging away with an iPhone 3GS that is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, but is still probably the best mobile phone I've ever used. I have been a Port Adelaide since before I can remember (or at least I'm told that). I look forward to seeing you on the forums, although if I have to delete something you've said then I obviously won't be looking quite as forward to that. I really thought you were above that <shakes head>.
See ya round!
-Dylan
*Not a guarantee that the next bit will be less boring.

  • Bring back the community feel to 'Skype Community'...

My suggestion for this 'community' - bring back the community feel.
I've not been on the forums for some years now, so I'm probably just out of touch with what the skype forums are about these days. Anyway, I get the impression that although the forums were renamed to be 'community', the content seems to discourage a community feel.
    consider http://community.skype.com/t5/Translations/From-India/m-p/2638631/highlight/true#M719
"The Skype Community does not support friendship requests."
under the old skype forums, I remember many people used to post introductions to themselves and some such users included people who later went on to become skype moderators \ influential members of the skype community.
it's possible that the OP should have been advised to post more content \ a little more about themself, but to say that the community does not support friendship requests seems a bit of a contradiction.
I personally don't post 'friend requests' here or on any other forums, but when socialising it's natural to see people introducing themselves especially when they are integrating into a new community....
The old skype versions had a 'meet me' feature. this was suspended as it created more problems than anyone expected... too many idiots being idiots because it was a one-to-one exchange. however I believe that the old forums had a 'coffee corner' where people did introduce themselves and it was encouraged. perhaps this 'community' needs such a section to truly be a community. it doesn't seem sensible to be stating that skype does not support friendship requests....

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that joining and building online communities also is fostered by the option to share details about yourself. Just like with the "Skype Me" status feature from the Skype application this requires a high amount of moderation, especially because of the "idiots" you are mentioning. We still have a "Skype lounge" here on the Skype Community were open discussions (that aren't contact requests) are welcome. Please join us there.

  • Top Tip #4 - How to use Search in the community

Why should I use the search in the community?
It’s a quick and easy way to get help with your problem – other people may have had the same or similar issue in the past, so if you can use search to find the answer then you will save yourself time waiting for a reply on the forum.
How do I use the search option?
When using the forum search think about what your problem is and carefully choose some key words to submit to the search box.
For Example:  if you are thinking out loud that your problem is:  "My broadband is slow and I have noise on the line”  then your search should include the keywords that are part of your problem, e.g. : "My broadband is slow and I have noise on the line”
Use these terms in your search, cutting out common words such as 'My', 'is', 'and' etc.
    Broadband
    slow
    noise
    line
This means that the search results you get will be examples of threads discussing similar issues.  You can read how they have been resolved in the past and try that advice for yourself. Quick and Easy!
Try it today! ...and if you are looking for a quick answer remember that search is your friend!
Once you get the hang of using the search options you may also want to use the advanced section to get more results.
Step by Step Guide to using Search:
    1. Find the search box at the top right hand side of the page:
     2.  Decide on the search keywords based on the problem you have.  Enter these words into the search box and click Search.
    3. The results will appear as follows:
This is a list of all the existing threads in the community that match some or all of your keywords. You can read through them to see which match most closely to the problem you are having and then try the advice that has already been given.
Hint:  Check out those with the Green SOLVED icon beside them as these threads have already been identified as having the answer.

  • Is the Community Update Program working ok now?

In light of Nokia sticking 2 fingers up at all of us hoping for MeeGo on our N900's, and also pulling the plug on Maemo at the same time, it looks like we're on our own for support.
I know that the Community is rallying together to fix issues ourselves, and they have started work on it, but I recall posts saying it was a bit buggy and experimental etc when it first came out.
Is it running any better now, as I may have to start adding the repository etc to my phone to future proof it?

  • Linking my forum profile to the community profile

I'm requesting some possibilities to link my forum profile to my community profile (and to my LAVA profile, that would just be great).
I just realized this because in the statistics of my forum profile, I see a 'blog authored', and while I'm bloging on the communities, this isn't reflected.
After some more thoughts, people like me donate a lot of (unpaid) time to make NI products better. Our participation in the forums and the community could be some cheap way to pay it back to us. If a potential employee or contractor is researching about our knownledge, the profiles could be impressive. If we would have linked them better, we could present us in a much broader background (I really do use the different options I have online for different objectives of mine).

I read your post prior to posting this. I agree that on the long term, a single profile would be cool. But I also like the differences of forums and communities, and having diffrent providers might be the prize you need to pay for this.
I'm more interested in short-term workarounds at the moment. Philosophically I also like to have a cloud identity, so I'm fine with a set of options to interlink my profiles. All the profiles offer some options to link to some web2.0-services (facebook, twitter, icq), the community profile has a field for the forum profile.
I also don't want to just discuss this on a technical level, but in the field of information management. If someone clicks on my profile, what information might this person be intersted in (and which information I want to provide). Well, it wont be a nice woman looking for a data but more likely some other engineer/technican/scientist or someone from a HR department that wants to check my technical expertise in different fields. So for them I would like to display a kind of top-ten charts where I am good at or interested in.
BTW: A personal messanger would be cool for this as well, so I could for example contact someone that was pretty active on the forums for let's say SMTP and directly ask this person if he/she can help my with my own SMTP problem.
I've seen this (some time ago) completley HR related on the joelonsoftware blog, where they where introducing a service (pretty expensive) for HR-departments where they could check the profiles (CVs) against the activity on the stackOverflow.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm not currently looking for a job, I target this with a technical knownledge-sharing intention. If I know that a memeber of the forums has some expertise I need, I'd like to have a look if this person hasn't founded a community for exactly this topic before asking.

  • How to set up the communication channel for third party idoc

    Hello,
I am trying to send an idoc from an sap 4.6c system to an third party system. The third party system is supporting idcos with trfc.
My problem is to set up the communication channel in the integration builder (configuration) for the third party system. The idoc is waitung in XI to transport.
    My settings are:
    adapter type: idoc
    transport protocol: idoc
    message protocol: idoc
    adapter engine: integration engine
rfc destination: xyz (is working fine)
interface version: sap release 4.0 or higher
    port: ??
    sap release 46c
My problem is the port. should i set up a port in idx1? But the third party is not an sap system and so i dont have a client.
On the xi i have defined a port in transaction we21 (transactional rfc) for the third party with my rfc destination xyz. But if i enter that port in communication channel i got error messages.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Christian,
yes, you have to mainztain that port in idx1.
First ypi load the rfc-metadata from an SAP referenzsystem and afterwards copy this metadata to the third party port.
For further details check the onlinedocumentation "IDoc Processing with the IDoc Adapter" XI -> runtime -> adapter
    Good luck,
    Holger

I had to change my Apple ID and password in itunes. Now my icloud doesn't work and I can't update my apps on my iPhone. I have looked at suggestions on the community pages and apple suggestions but none of them are relevant to iOS 8.1.2
icloud just keeps bringing up my old email address & asking for my old password which doesn't exist anymore and when I try to sign out of icloud it wants my old password, when I tried to change my primary email back to the old one it wants me to verify it through an email address that doesn't exist. Please can you help me sort out this nightmare.

    Hi skippy2012trev,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Joe

I want to uninstall Acrobat reader. I got support in the community to access my HD and to send to trash the internet plugs in for PDF viewer, but when I try to download a PDF from internet a black screen appears and preview doesn't open

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • The communications company that can't communicate

Why is it that 1 of the biggest communication companies can't even communicate with each other.
I decided that as BT Infinity was now available in our area that I would finally give in and have a landline so that we could take advantage of the higher speeds on offer.
We had managed with only a mifi device on a mobile network for internet but recently this has become less stable and the speed very variable. We are currently 60mtrs from the nearest telegraph pole and do not have a physical line into the property, it was important that we get everything right. So during the sales call to order I explained that due to the nature and location of the property that not only did we need a pole installed but it would be a good idea for a site survey to make sure everything went smoothly. The sales person agreed and said a note was put on file.
I then received emails giving me an install date for my line and Infinity yet no survey had been carried out so I rang BT several minutes and many key presses later (why don’t you just get people to answer the phones) I got through to a helpful person who seemed to understand the issues and put me on hold for 5mins while he talked to Openreach. He then assured me that a survey would be carried out straight away so that they could get "everything right".
As the date for install was getting near I decided to contact Openreach who said they had no evidence of a change to the job. I persuaded Openreach that they should attend site prior to the install date.
I attended a site meeting which highlighted that not only did we need a telegraph pole near our property but the service had been provisioned to the wrong distribution point ¼ of a mile further past my property. The engineer then left to get things in motion.
I had several more automated emails suggesting that a change had been made and a pole would be fitted. I took the day off work and was contacted by a subcontractor to Openreach to say they would be attending site to fit the new line and he was outside the property. (Its panto time) Oh no you’re not I said, Oh yes I am he said. I think you have been sent to the wrong distribution point as I am outside the property and you are not here. The engineers drove the ¼ mile back to where I suggested they needed to be and said “you need a pole installing, we can’t fit the line”.
The engineer tried but could not get through the call minder mine field at BT so left saying he get hold of someone. I then received several emails and texts saying they your Infinity installer would be here on Friday to switch on your high speed internet (good luck I thought). I have given up phoning BT and set about trying emailing them, thank you automated email response at least someone is listening. I then received another automated response suggesting how I could fix the problem. I hope the instructions didn’t include digging a big hole, cutting down a tree and making my own pole.
Finally after responding to an automated fix to an automated reply eureka BT rang me and say there will be a delay but I should know soon when the pole will be installed.
Watch this space, I will update.
p.s I hope the Infinity Engineer has been told
p.p.s. I bet the BT accounts department are on the ball when it comes to billing me.
We’re getting there (sorry that’s British Rail).

  • How to get quick and efficient help in the Community

We have provided the Community so that our users can post questions and answers to assist one another, and to allow users to read and learn from questions posted by other users.
To further assist with the collaboration, our community has Kudos and Solution buttons on each post, to reward great posts and answers which resolve a question.
We encourage all of our users to give Kudos to good answers they find on the community and for posters to click the Solution button on any answer which resolves their question.
Here are some tips you can use when getting started in the community. We would suggest looking in two places before you post a question.
First, look at our knowledge base.  We have provided answers to many of the commonly asked questions here,
If your question is not answered in the knowledge base, please use our built-in search functionality to see if anyone has posted a similar question and been answered.
For Google Chrome specific issues, you may want to search the Google Chrome Support page.
Finally, if you are unable to resolve your question with the knowledge base or the search feature, you may want to post your own question.  Following the below steps will allow everyone in the community to have a large amount of knowledge about your system and your question.
Be sure that you include what product model you have.
Include the operating system that you have on your product.
If you have upgraded or changed the operating system, include that information.
Clearly and specifically discuss the problem that you are having, including how to reproduce it.
If there are error messages, include them as they appear on the screen.
Applications you are having difficulty with should be listed.  If you have the version number that is helpful.
Be patient while you wait for an answer.  This community is about users assisting users.

  • How to get the number of community members from outside the community

    Hi everyone.
I need to know if there is any way to get the number of community members from outside the community, I mean, not using the "What's happening" webpart. I want to build up a page with a Webpart that summarize my three most visited communities indicating
number of members, three last messages in the newsfeed, and number of posts in blog, wikis, document libraries, etc.
Do I need statistics to get this kind of information? Should I use Sharepoint Object model instead?
Here is an example of what I need:
    - Community name
    - Number of members
    - Community activity (messages, docs uploaded to library, etc)
    - Number of posts in calendar, blog, wiki that belongs to community
    Thank you all!

    Hi Thuan.
Thanks for your answer but it does not help me because these communities are Sharepoint Communities not external sites so I need to get that information using SP object model and BCS in this case is useless.
    EDIT
I found the solution using the search objects but I was only able to get members, discussions and replies
using (ClientContext clientContext = new ClientContext("URL_OF_ENTERPRISE_SEARCH_CENTER"))
    KeywordQuery keywordQuery = new KeywordQuery(clientContext);
    keywordQuery.QueryText = "The_Name_of_the_Community WebTemplate:COMMUNITY";
    SearchExecutor searchExecutor = new SearchExecutor(clientContext);
    ClientResult<ResultTableCollection> results = searchExecutor.ExecuteQuery(keywordQuery);
    clientContext.ExecuteQuery();
    System.Collections.Generic.IDictionary<string, object> ret = null;
    foreach (System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<string, object> resultRow in results.Value[0].ResultRows)
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1} ({2})", resultRow["CommunityMembersCount"], resultRow["CommunityTopicsCount"], resultRow["CommunitiyRepliesCount"]);
    This is a Console Application.
