Introducing myself to this forum

Hello Everyone,
I have just joint this forum for helping others and getting help for myself too. I am an Accountant, deals with Corporate tax and personal tax returns.
And looking ahead for this forum, as I found it very supportive and helpful.
Thanks and Regards!

Apple has been doing some maintenance to fix a few "bugs" in the forum software, but sometimes new or repeat ones creap back in. It has done as you described in the past. Just put up with it & it will be fixed.
If you post your comment in the Discussions Feedback @ http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1076 it's more likely to be seen by a forum moderator.

iOS 7 Basically it looks like Apple has introduced globally a bug in their notification center software with no known solution, every app using notification center throws a pop up on startup.  All I find on this forum are overkill solutions like reinstalling/rolling back the os, which no real user should to be forced to do for a minor bug of this nature.

It throws a popup only the first time you launch the app, to confirm whether you wish to have notifications enabled for that specific app.

  • "You do not have permission to post in this forum"

I have another account that cannot do anything much at all, and I would like to get it fixed without a five day wait for a Genius Bar appointment, then a 1 hour bus trip each way with an "I can't help with that" in the middle.
The account has been broken for over a year.  This is what happens:
I can submit a question to the community.
I can open any postings that show as matches.
If there are no matches and I get thrown to the list of communities, then I can't view or post to any of them.  I see the product names and icons (iPad, for example, but the list of related communities on the right is missing for all products.  Which seems unfair because I own most of them.
You do not have permission to post to this forum
It appears you are not allowed to view what you requested.  You might contact your administrator yadda yadda.
I have posted about this before:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17393255#17393255
with no real answer (a threat of possible help, if you like, but with no resultant benefit.)
My question is - how does one get help with the help forums?  I have phoned Apple's help desk and they said they could not do anything.
I would really like to get my primary account working - it connects to the right email address, it all set up and comfortable - and it does not use my name and location as an alias (who's idea was that?  Fire that person!)
If you know of any court of appeal, help desk support forum support line, 21-step program or anything else that might help, please tell me.  This has gone on long enough.
I tried to do something about this from the other account but to get support for the support communities you have to be able to post to them.
    "That's some catch, that Catch-22"
    "It's the best there is."
Thanks in advance for your help.

Seventy-one -  To my knowledge, I have been a model citizen.  And not impertinent of you at all - a very reasonable question.  All words have been 1-3 or 5+ letters long, I certainly have not received any communication (that I have been able to find) that indicates a transgression.  And there is another question - which castle, and are you saving for the deposit?
Bleach  - other user name is "Ploughguy".  But I was more after a means of contacting those with influence myself.  Most fora like this have a contactable moderator or administrator.  I am rather amazed that one needs the intercession of the saints.  Such as St Roger...
Roger - This situation.  The "can't look-can't post" situation.  It has been (not) happening for some time.
I previously raised the issue here .
BTW, I created yet another ID because I was not careful enough when I set up the second ID and it defaulted to "NameFromSuburb".  This is OK for johnfromnewyork but a huge privacy risk if you are ranulffromlittlestorpingintheswuff - an unusual name in a small place.  I do not know how that default got through the peer review. Basically it says "ranulf has the good taste to own an Apple something which is portable and fenceable, and he lives not far from here".  I have suggested to the privacy people that it is a very bad idea.  And yes, I realise my alias is already out there.  I have asked the privacy people to blow it away.

  • Suggestion to Moderators: time to split this forum into subjects

I think this forum went through significant activation and change since first initiated after SAPPHIRE 2010. As HANA went from the idea on the slide to real thing with many different aspects I think it is time to split this forum into few focused topics, e.g.:
    - Business cases for in-memory technology
    - SAP HANA platform and administration
    - SAP HANA development (SQL, SQLScript etc)
    - Data replication into SAP HANA (SLT, SyRS)
    - SAP HANA Dev Center
    - SAP HANA Security
    etc.
BO integration with HANA should be in BO forums. BW-on-HANA should be in corresponding forums on BW and OS/DB migrations.
Thanks everyone for lively discussions (especially technical ones and contributing to this forum!
    -Vitaliy

    Hi Vitaliy,
Your suggestion makes perfect sense to me. However, as we are all waiting for the new SCN to launch, we should get prepared to do some re-org of the content on the new platform and not introduce another level of complexity here. I don't think a definite date has been announce yet, but we're getting closer to the final migration. At least the developer center will have it's own forum on the new platform. Plus, the new SCN will allow tagging of content, so it'll be much easier to keep things organized if we all show some discipline (and if we don't, separate forums won't help because without some discipline, people will post into whatever they find first)
    cheers

No, Tapatalk and Forum Runner don't support Lithium forums, and I doubt that any of the other apps do either.
Lithium does have a mobile interface available that optimizes a community's content in a smartphone's browser, but we don't have it here. There's only so many new features that we can introduce and support in each year's time and $$$ budgets, and Mark would be the only one who would know if the mobile option has been slotted into next year's budget.

  • A summary of this forum for perspective Nokia buye...

I have been on this forum for about 2 weeks (not long I admit) ever since the release of "free" navigation for (your) Nokia phone.
Since then I have observed the following:
    Nokia blatantly refuse to acknowledge or comment on issues which make them look bad, to whit;
    - Nokia maps not working with BlueTooth
    - Nokia Maps failing to update on certain handsets
    - A time/date bug causing phones to crash when using Nokia Maps
    - Nokia voice files failing to install due to an LUA error
    - Nokia's refusal to comment on whether certain phones will be supported
    - Nokia's refusal to answer questions directly either on or off the record
    - Numerous complaints by customers mislead by Nokia's blatant lie that Nokia Maps are     now free for phone.
    - Nokia's license servers failing to work when a license is purchased.
    - Nokia's license servers rolling licenses forward to version 3, and then being unable to work with version 2 when any of the previously mentioned issues arise.
Nokia have further seen more than 40 users post to say they will never buy another Nokia (myself included) PURELY regarding the dishonesty they have shown with their handling of the maps situation. Nokia have still not commented, nor stated publicly their intentions with regards to these issues.
Nokia have, in short, angered their (once) loyal customer base and driven numerous people away for the opportunity to (falsly) advertise free navigation on their phones.
I feel the above is a fairly apt description of the occurences of this board over the last 2 weeks.
Does anyone else want to point out something I have missed/agree/disagree with me?
Please post your (reasoned and intelligently ONLY!) oppinions here, and lets see if we might be able to get through to Nokia.
    Perspective buyers, watch this thread.
EDITED - I messed up the formatting rather badly.
If you read something you liked, or found this post useful, hit the green Kudos button on the left.

Err, if you post here, you really shouldnt expect Nokia to reply to you since this is aUSER-TO-USER FORUM. The Nokia hired moderators here arent even technicians who could answer some of the questions. They're just here to enforce forum rules. Some Nokia employees do come around from time to time, but that's so rare as to us not expect them here at any given time. If you want an official Nokia response to your queries, the only way would be to mail them through the contact us button at the top of the page.
As for shamelessly ignoring questions regarding n95 and n96, lets see. They announced that they were working on the maps to be compatible on other s60v3FP2 phones to be available this year, hopefully within the first half (n96 included). This has been already answered before. Then somebody comes in and posts the same question again. It is answered. A few days later someone else asks it again. Personally, some people here do get tired of answering the same question again and again sometimes at intervals of a few hours of each other. Most of the people here who answer your questions arent Nokia employees and are in no way obligated to answer your questions if they have already answered it like 5 or six times. I've seen here posts regarding the new answer key for the v40 5800 right next to each other asking the same thing, and one of the threads was answered.

  • Restrict my question to one person on this forum

How do I create a message and send it to only one person
    on this forum?
    Thanks!

    Yep,
    Same but different
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22619134#22619134
I tend to use the drop-in on another thread if the person has not reached Level 6 (As it is now).
Otherwise I would tend to use the the Level 6 + Lounge and a more formal "Bat Signal"
Someone dropping in to one of "my threads" is likely to be asking something about Messages or iChat and be "on Topic" in that sense.
(Of course there are days when I could argue that the drop in question does not match the specific on going question in hand  .  But I know I can be fickle).
I know I follow a fairly narrow band of topics, partly based on knowledge and partly on time restraints. I no longer have a job that gives me days off in the week which I used to use here in other communities.
I could understand someone of level 6 or higher who I consider to be more knowledgeable than myself having question that were "off topic" more often than I might and finding it a distraction.
However at the end of the day it is a matter of perception.

  • 1000 Postings in this forum!

    Hello everyone.
I just noticed that with this posting we reach the number of 1000 postings since this forum was opened on March, 26th. After a time of testing we anounced the forum in our old mailing list end of April and now it seems that we established a lively community here in the SDN.
Thanks to everyone participating in this forum! Setting up the SDN forum is one thing but for a good community it needs all of us taking part. Asking questions, answering questions or discussing news about SAP on system i.
And if you have any questions regarding this forum feel free to ask...
Once again a big thank you to all of you taking part in this forum,

re: "ask how in the world they wound up doing that"
    Hear! Hear!
    Tom,
I often asked myself the same, even at the old forums Discussions Feedback, as it is not evident with the way the Discussions designers have laid out the site that any question would be posted here "except" for the appropriate questions!
Allowing for a user to be (and obviously they most likely are) new to the Discussions....it is still quite hard to understand how a user winds up here and then posts a question that should be posted in another forum logically.
I, and I'm sure yourself, would love to know out of curiosity more than anything as it really makes no sense what possibly a user's path would be to bring them here for posting hardware/software questions. At first I thought there might be a hint that a user may come here looking for how to use the forum and then continue to post here as well....but the Bold Red banner at top really is hard to miss....wouldn't you say....lol ))))
My post here is not to ridicule the users who post here as I'm sure they would post in the appropriate forum if they knew better but it just seems so strange.

  • No Genius iPoders on this forum then!

    Problems -
An exclamation point and folder icon displayed on my iPod
Unable to connect using iPod Updater 2005-09-06
    Unable to update/restore iPod
I can see but not access the iPod removable drive
Unable to perform check disk on iPod
The iPod will go into HD mode and mount when connected to PC
While the iPod Updater 2005-09-06 is connecting to the iPod the circle will appear in the top left corner of the screen then disappear, after about 5 minutes the iPod Updater crashes.
    Things I have tried -
    Uninstalled/reinstalled iPod USB drivers
    Uninstalled/reinstalled iPod Updater 2005-09-06
    Reset iPod hundreds of times
    Put into disk mode
    Let battery die and recharge
    Bought new cable firewire/USB
Tried to connect to multiple machines
    Ensured iPod service was running
Disabled all services on computer except iPod service
Tomorrow I will be giving http://www.dataclinic.co.uk a call. They seem to think they can repair the following symptoms:
    •Accidentally deleted files
•Accidental synchronisation with the wrong music library
•Formatting or restoring your iPod to its factory settings
    •Dropped or damaged iPods
•iPods making unusual sounds upon attempts to start the device
•Folder with exclamation mark not allowing access to your data
    •Completely ‘dead’ device
Lets hope they don’t think we are all fools and perform the same procedures apple invites us to do.
The reason for my condescending topic title is because I received ZERO feedback on the below posts.

    “zoo,
You're are under the impression that there are thousands of iPod users awaiting your beck and call to respond to your double, no, make that triple post, of a common failure. Let me lower your expectations. We're not paid to assist you and, insulting fellow iPod users is never a step in the right direction.”
Listen mate you need to get out more. I do not think anyone should serve me. This forum is for people to help each other. Not only am I asking questions I’m helping people anyway I can. It’s all about everyone getting together and helping each other. I don’t think anyone MUST help me. What I do think is I should be more careful in my wording if it’s going to trigger off negativity.
I’m new to iPod and within 3 days I have learned a great deal on how to fix/resolve iPod issues al thanks to everyone on this forum. So thank you everyone for the great help and support.
OK in regard to my problem I found out how to boot the iPod into diagnostic mode, how I did this was placing the iPod in the charger resting the iPod the holding the right button and select for 15 seconds the iPod reboots backlight comes on and the apple logo appears backwards. A menu appears with several different options I selected HDD Scan this preformed a HDD check which took about 3 hours believe it or not. It came back with “HDD SCAN END SCAN 112 RDFAIL SCAN NG” so I got on the line to Apple read out the code, guess what the iPod is faulty and they have sent me a replacement should arrive in the next 3 days. The reason I’m telling you all is because if you do run into any serious issues boot the iPod into diagnostic mode and run any of the several tests.
I found this page you may all find useful. Some very interesting pointers.

Thank you all for the help and advice, and remember there are only so many things you can do with an iPod before it’s inevitably faulty.
    Peace

Has this Forum name changed to CS5 ....today, recently, a long time ago?
No big deal ...just noticed it and got myself lost for a moment? (My bookmark says Adobe CS4 Forum)
At my age I have to keep testing myself for onslaught of memory loss and senility!

It seems that now that CS5 is "done and out" there are several Adobe employees who have started posting in the last week or so
One of them (check the lounge) is doing some housekeeping on the forum structure
I, for one, like the changes... CS5 SHOULD be in a place of its own, since it is 64bit and has MPE so the questions are going to be different (well... some of them, at least)

Has anyone in this Forum had problems with installing and running Adobe apps on the new MacPro?
I have been trying to install Photoshop CS6 & CC and Acrobat Pro XI on my Mac Pro (late 2013). I keep getting a 'configuration' error message and wondered if the problem was wide spread.

  • I am writing to this forum to ask for help in determining whether Aperture will satisfy my needs when I switch from Windows to MAC in the near future.

I am writing to this forum to ask for help in determining whether Aperture will satisfy my needs when I switch from Windows to MAC in the near future.
I am currently using Photoshop Elements 8 on Windows 7.  After several years of use, I am self taught and adequately proficient for an amateur.  What I didn't realize (until I started researching my upcoming migration on the Internet) is that I actually use PE8 for two functions: digital asset management and digital editing.
Regarding Digital Asset Management: My research leads me to understand that PE on MAC does not provide the same level of organizational capability that I am used to having on Windows, instead providing Adobe's Bridge which does not look very robust.  Furthermore, iPhoto, which come on MAC will not support the hierarchical keyword tagging that I require to organize my library of photos. The two SW applications which I am thinking of switching to are either Aperture or Adobe's Lightroom.  Frankly, I'm thinking that it would be smoother to stay within the Apple product line.
So the remaining question is whether Aperture will support my digital editing needs. The tweaks that I do to my photos are not very complex (no, I do not want to put people's heads on other animal bodies).  But could someone who uses Aperture tell me whether It will allow me to do the following kinds of edits?:
    - If I have a photo where someone's face is too shadowed, can I lighten just that person's face, and leave the rest of the photo as-is?
    - if I have a photo where the background is cluttered (eg, 2 people in front of the Parthenon which is undergoing renovation), can I remove just the construction cranes?
    - Can it splice together several separate photos to give a panoramic?
If, once I get Aperture, I find that it cannot enable the kinds of editing that I do, I would probably get PE11 in the future. However, if people in this forum tell me that Aperture will definitely not  support the kinds of editing which I've described in the previous paragraph, I would prefer to get PE11 with my initial configuration (since someone will be helping me with my migration).
Thanks in advance for your consideration and help!

I am concerned, however,  about using a non-Apple Digital Asset Manager in OSX. I would really like to avoid integration problems. Is using PE11 to import and catalog my digital photos likely to cause conflicts?
Thanks for any insight on this
    Amy,
Not so much conflicts as maybe a little less seamless integration with Apple software and perhaps some third-party software providers in the Mac App Store where some programs build in direct access to iPhoto and Aperture libraries for getting images into those programs easily. Typically, there is a manual command to go to Finder (think Windows Explorer) to browse folders.
One caution to mention however, is that the organization you set-up in PE Organizer is unlikely to transfer over to either iPhoto or Aperture if you decide to change at some point.
The only real stumbling block that I see in your opening comment is that you want hierarchical keywording (Kirby or Léonie can go into the details on keywording limitations as I stay at one level). If you can work with the keywording schemes of either iPhoto or Aperture, then using PE for your external editor (either program supports setting an external editor) would probably be ideal since you know PE well. This is the idea with the Mac App Store version of PE (editor with no organizer).
Note - I use Photoshop CS6 (full version) with Aperture and it works really well. The only downside is that Aperture has to make either a TIFF or PSD file to send to an external editor so that the original file is protected by not sending it to the pixel editor. While TIFF or PSD files protect the integrity of the image information without degrading it, they are typically much larger file sizes on disk than either RAW or JPEG files. Therefore, your library size (iPhoto or Aperture) will balloon quite a bit if you send a lot of files to external editors.
One other possibility for an external editor would be a program called Pixelmator. It is pretty similar to early versions of Photoshop, but built for Mac. Other than the panoramics you want, it will do most pixel editing that PE can do. It is not an organizer, so it is built to go with either iPhoto or Aperture. It does have differences in how you complete certain procedures, so there is bit of a learning curve when you are used to doing it the Adobe way.

As stated, I just downloaded elements 12. Every time i open it up, it gets to the organizer home screen, then shuts down. After this, it will not reopen. I have made all the updates to my windows 7, and I have searched this forum and have yet to find an proper solution to this issue, and by the looks I am not the only person with this issue.
